The main thing that sucks right now: The FPS
mercules replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
25-35 FPS on Very High settings and now that I have tweaked it a bit and am using more Normal/High 30-45. If it isn't the computer then it is probably the operator. I would hazard a guess at it being a bit of both. -
I've have two can openers and a knife. Loot is random. I was eating tuna and anything with moisture in it because I couldn't seem to find anything to drink. ;)
-
They did make it harder... Your example of people who didn't have guns not killing you is in fact less KOS. Someone is always going to get a gun and always going to be able to shoot someone else, but right now the guns are less common so not EVERYONE is KOSing in Elektro/Cherno within 10 minutes of loading into the game.

Nice stuff Gents. I can't screenshot at work but off the top of my head I have: Canteen 5 tins of food can opener Very Damaged Axe Pristine Crowbar Mosin The Big Backpack in Green Green Raincoat Winter Hunter Pants White Motorcycle helmet 2 IV kits with saline Matches Water Bottle 2 Cans of soda Brown Gloves Designer Sunglasses 10 rags Charcol tablets Stanag clip Pistol holster Camp Stove Gas Light Gas cylinder I have found tons of clothing(thus the rags), shoes, helmets, melee weapons, burlap bags, backpacks, food. I've gone through a ton of food and drink and is the main reason why I keep searching. The key to finding items(other than server hopping) is to not follow your normal routes. If you haven't found items then you are in an area picked clean. You need to head into the less traveled villages and you will find a bunch of things. Yeah, the M4 is likely in Ballota or NWAF, but unless you are the first person there it won't be around and you can find things elsewhere.

Are There Only 3 Guns On 1st Release?
mercules replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
There are, but with the modular attachments there are technically more "guns" than the Mod. M4A1 M4A3 - Flashlight attachment M4A1 CCO - CCO scope M4A3 CCO - CCO, Flashlight M4A1 CCO SD - CCO, Surpressor These are all a "Gun" in the mod in the SA this is one gun with different attachments and there are many more combinations than there were M4/M16 variants in the Mod. -
The above quote is from Dean. You didn't follow the advice.
-
Is there where I quote Dean saying something about people not liking how harsh the SA might be and he hopes they don't sign up right away?
-
The "Uncrackable Safes" in Epoch are one of the few things I don't like. I want my stuff to be more safe than the SA but less safe than an indestructible item in Epoch. Maybe if the storage was VERY limited It wouldn't be as bad. Say 2 "gun" slots and 20 "magazine" slots. Otherwise you stash way too much in Safes. The unlimited stock that many servers get going is also a bad thing. If someone has a spare pair of NVGs they should be able to sell them and someone else should be able to buy them from a trader, buuuuuut... there should not be an SQL script running every so often that populates every trader with at least 10 of every item. Popular items should sell out. I do want to see what the things they have done in SA will bring to the table first before these other ideas are put in. It's possible some of the current things they are doing will help a lot.

Difference between the various flavors?
mercules replied to s1rGr1nG0's topic in New Player Discussion
Kinda like how you might be hard pressed to find a private DayZ Vanilla server without Self Bloodbag? So obviously when I talk about Vanilla I should mention how lame it is that Vanilla has Self Bloodbags. The OFFICIAL Epoch Servers and many non-official do not have "Safe Zones". -
Mozzie Flying Practice: No Option in Editor?
mercules replied to DoctorScandalous's topic in New Player Discussion
Dude... they are 4 gold to buy in Epoch. Put 4 gold in your inventory and strip most of your gear. Run to Aircraft dealer, buy one, fly it around. If you crash big deal. :) -
Um, it could be Vanilla... on a private server.

Is dayz dying a slow death due to epoch? just seen nalalsk and panthera servers come up...why is dayz lagging behind?
mercules replied to piffaroni's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Still don't get that. I interact with more of the environment in Epoch/Origins than I ever do in Vanilla. Unless I die I get certain items and then NEVER go back to that type of building ever again in Vanilla. I avoid zombies and players completely in Vanilla. -
Dayz "Buzz" has come full circle by getting back to basics :)
mercules replied to drewsta's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes, I need to start finding 1st person view servers again and insisting my friends join me there since they only play occasionally now anyway. -
Which is probably why it isn't in the game.

DayZ Standalone... over a year too late.

Oh I get it. Another person who hasn't been following the development and so thinks the SA is "exactly the same". AKA: Troll. -

I think you need to go back and read a bit more. Many, many, many things have changed in DayZ since 1.4. For one thing the bug fixes you mentioned. As well they added dozens of new items and systems. Weather Illness Types of food some of which are better than others Gun switches Better zombies(believe it or not they are better now than way back when) additional buildings BALANCE FIXES (some removed guns some altered other things) All sorts of gear changes Random spawns of special events Crafting better medical systems a dozen other things I can't articulate while trying to walk a clueless user through some troublshooting on the phone... The game is an ALPHA which means it is in a state where it is not "feature complete" and new features have been added into it all along but it has been gradual so if you even played way back when you don't remember that this or that did change because it was so long ago you forgot what it was like when you started with a weapon or zombies did run inside with all the problems that caused. -

On topic: There are too many different mods of this mod to give you accurate answers on all of them. I'll hit the three I have played more than others. Breaking Point - LOTS OF GUNS. No seriously there are almost too many guns in this mod. It also has Bloodsuckers. Most major loot spots have a Bloodsucker that spawns in the area and the longer you are in the area the greater chance it will spawn. It will hunt you down to the ends of the earth and is tough. Last time I played they were still rather buggy and I was killed in a chopper because one attacked my friend on the ground and the damage applied to me somehow. This mod really is a bit more PVP set up as guns are easy to find as are multiple types of Ghillie suits and armed vehicles. There are placed that spawn military loot but no zombies making finding decent guns fairly easy... once you have a chopper. They have Hive servers like Vanilla Epoch - Private servers which means that the owners can add whatever they want so a good deal of them are Self Blood Bag 1000+ vehicles but if you find a good one without all that crap it can be just as hard as Vanilla. The nice things are that you can actually reasonable store some items. At times I think they went too far but in general you can't store too much. They have put a lot of thought into causing you to want to interact with something other than other players and military spawn points. Origins - Whole new map. You can construct player housing which is the same for everyone and isn't easy to break into. There is also a background story to it if you did want to explore that. Wandering AI helicopters fly patterns over parts of the map and will kill you... trust me on this. Zombies are a bit harder and take much more damage from head shots. It has a "leveling" system based of humanity which can be rewarding and frustrating all at the same time. There is an AI island with some of the best loot in the game but you basically need to assault it as a squad to get anywhere. Were I you I would play Vanilla. If you start to grow bored with that then try a different flavor and don't be afraid to come back to vanilla as it might be fresh again after trying something a bit different. -

Still going to be a dumbass about this no matter how many times someone has told you that the God Mode Zones are not an actual feature of Epoch, huh? Like many you fear something without ever bothering to actually find out real facts about it. Enjoy your ignorance but please stop spreading it. -

Is dayz dying a slow death due to epoch? just seen nalalsk and panthera servers come up...why is dayz lagging behind?
mercules replied to piffaroni's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
See but I am actually using it to survive. The locations I tend to pick for bases are all about survival first. Do animals spawn nearby? Check. Is there a water source nearby? Check. Is it in a location that is well hidden and/or hard to shoot me while I am in it? Check. The difference is I tend to be focussed on long term survival and not just day to day survival. It gives me a goal. Like R4ZOR49 said it isn't better, it is different. There is a lot of appeal to having a goal beyond, "Run to Stary and loot tents, loot Grocery Store, and then IGNORE EVERY OTHER BUILDING IN STARRY." :) I prefer it because it encourages me to engage zombies who drop loot you can't get any other way. It encourages me to hit buildings and loot spawns because it is the only place to get some things that are useful. It encourages me to set up a series of small goals and follow through on them. Step one: Find basic gear and a basic weapon. Pistol, Shotgun, Enfield, Map, Compass, Matches, Hatchet, Crowbar, Tool Kit. Step two: Find better gun, food and drink, crap vehicle to move around in. Step three: Loot while making my way to a trader. Grab items that sell for a bit more throw extra guns in the vehicle Step four: Buy a vehicle (typically an ATV to start with then eventually a Camo SUV but a Mozzie can be useful if more difficult to hide) Step five: Scout out a safe area of the server not already being used to place a small base Step six: Buy a Safe and start gathering building materials, maybe upgrade vehicles slowly Step seven: Save up for a plot pole have all my items crafted and ready to set up Step eight: Cross fingers and set up the plot pole then all the base items I prepared, try not to get killed because that will require me to rip down the plot pole and start again Step nine: Enjoy your labor... if you get bored find a new server and start over During the whole process, especially steps 5-7 I am having to hit many different locations and types of buildings. I hit Farm spawns, Industrial spawns, Military spawns, and some Residential spawns. Farm Spawns give me lumber but I could just chop down trees, or a chainsaw which makes cutting down trees and making Lumber a breeze but is a rare spawn that requires 2 cycle oil to mix with fuel so I need the residential spawns to get that. I also need Sledge Hammer from that to craft certain things. Industrial Spawns give me cinderblock and mortar which I will probably eventually want as well as tank traps, wire kits, scrap metal, and vehicle parts I can use to fix up a vehicle or turn into scrap metal. Fixing up and selling vehicles can help me earn the money I need so I always keep an eye out for good ones and carry around a few things to get them running again. Military Spawns are obvious but they also yield duplicate guns that sell for a good amount and get me closer to buying a plot pole or other needed thing. I need to SHOOT zombies to get things like lockboxes, sledgehammer heads/handles, briefcases, and most importantly Combination Locks. So instead of just looping around and running them through buildings I engage them and loot their corpses. So the the thing that Epoch does that I think the SA doesn't encourage is it encourages me to enter different buildings and interact with zombies. That is on top of making me canvas the map for bases, supply drops, Helicopter crashes, and mass graves. Stand alone has some better systems for inventory and such and has added some nice things. It needs more tweeks but it has it's own benefits that Epoch and others lack. -

DayZ Standalone... over a year too late.
mercules replied to jBrick's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
While it will be similar, it will not be the same. Go watch some SA videos like the 3 hour and 20 minute one that was recently put up. The map has new areas, new buildings, and most of the buildings can be entered. In addition the game has updated systems. The focus has changed in the SA from straight guns to melee and guns and the melee system is an actual system and not just a close range gun with a different skin. Gear has changed, there is some crafting in the SA and will be more. There are modular weapon systems. DAMAGED GEAR which is awesome. Sickness. It is a different game built off the same idea with some things carried over. -
Is dayz dying a slow death due to epoch? just seen nalalsk and panthera servers come up...why is dayz lagging behind?
mercules replied to piffaroni's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's just it. The stuff goes from being useless to actually having a reason to exist. To explain: So I hit a barn in Kabanino for loot. Oh wait, no I don't because in Vanilla by the time I reach Kabanino the chances of there being anything in a barn I want aside from food and drink if I have used all mine up is 0%. In Epoch I hit the anyway because there is a chance I might run into a chainsaw which I can't get anywhere else and is useful, several different things for base building like Light Bulbs, packs of Lumber, Empty Fuel Barrels, Sledgehammer Heads & handles, and Gerry Cans. In Vanilla you basically hit barns early and then after a while you ignore them. In Epoch you don't. So more of the map and buildings become useable and useful. -
Dayz "Buzz" has come full circle by getting back to basics :)
mercules replied to drewsta's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
These two statements are an issue in my mind. Let me explain why. Some of the hard and challenging comes from having to worry about logistics and paths. The OP made a post about moving slower and looking around and he has a perfect point. He was stating that he has started to not just run to the next "area" but has started to slow down and move through the areas he is in more carefully. Pause and catch your breath and look around, stick to cover, sometimes even ~walk~ and he has been surprised by the number of players he has ended up noticing. Now he isn't the sort to just gun down random people so those players never even know he is around. This makes me wonder how many people we pass by when we decide to run from Elektro to Stary and just put our heads down and start going in a straight line. I mean most of us stick to trees, but we still pretty much run and just do quick sweeps so we don't run into anything too blindly. If we slowed down a bit and looked around how many opportunities would we have to engage these people who are still running flat out? So at that point the movement between city A and city B because a major survival experience and could be challenging. I think it isn't because even I am guilty of, "I want to go to X so I'll head along these trees to this ridge and then over to here and run down to that point there" and then just start running on the path I laid out only pausing occasionally. I do so more in Epoch because of the fatigue/weight system. Now, Dean stated he would like to put a fatigue/weight system into this game, just after alpha. That means no more marathon runs you will need to take breaks. My hope is that those breaks are going to lead to you looking around and seeing someone else moving about and firefights outside the cities. Removing that time between cities means removing the chance of running into others. There were a few mods for Skyrim that made the game more interesting from a survival aspect. One added in frostbite and other weather effects on the body, another limited fast travel to things like wagons between cities. So now you had to actually travel across the countryside and with it have all the encounters between the two points AND you had to deal with the weather the whole time. You could create fires and had other ways to up your body temperature but you ended up having to plan your long trips and avoid certain areas like mountain passes unless you were geared up. Certain gear was warmer than other gear and so you sometimes had to decide between armor or warmth. Traveling is a very real danger and part of that danger is that it often leads you to go into automatic mode, even in real life. Wandering through a back trail where you don't believe there are any hostiles you tend to just plod along and that is why ambushes work. Cities are focal points but it looks like there will also be a few things out in the woods we wouldn't be expecting before and remember, zombies can now literally be anywhere on the map, not just around cities, removing the time and effort of moving from one city to another also removes some of the risk of moving from one city to another. That time is enough that you could become very complacent in your run. For those it bothers there is always BF3/COD/Planetside 2 and dozens of other games where the action is limited in area or you can get a newly spawned vehicle every so often to get you to the next area of interest. -
Dean - Sort it out man. Losing your way
mercules replied to Thegoon84's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes, but to do so another player would have to stand there and watch over you. Right now they could do the same in DayZ Mod. Shoot you with something that can knock you out, bandage and give you a bloodbag, tell you not to move after they remove your guns then wake you up. You move they shoot you and knock you out again, bandage, and bloodbag, keep going. So what can be done with the binding in SA can be done in the Mod now, only with a much greater chance of killing you. I don't see it as griefing because it is going to require someone interacting with you on an ongoing basis. You realize you can log out and it will simply kill you, then you can go to any server you want and start fresh. So it isn't any worse than shooting you in the head.
