  1. It's not the only solution, but it is the easiest to figure out, anything else might require thought and we don't want that, do we. :)

Isn't the point of an Alpha build...

The thing is that some of us "fanboys" are also pointing out some really obvious things to people and then being told we are wrong. Posts like, "How do you heal?" we tell them how and they tell us we are wrong. We ask how they did that and they don't understand the question because they in turn repeat themselves and then insult us. We then explain in more detail and they tell us we are still wrong. Like the whole, "The melee system is broken." thing. I took some time and figured it out and can headshot zeds with shovels/fist/wrenches to knock them down and then beat them to death and hit them with axes. It works pretty well if you get the feel for it. In some people's opinion it is broken because they have to actually figure it out. Sorry.. I am going to blast that type of person with sarcasm. Is the melee system perfect? No, but it works really well for their alpha build of it.
  3. A poor mechanic blames his tools... Poor game players blame game systems.
  4. No they don't. MMO-RPGs do checks like this: Is enemy in 3m? If yes attack can be used. For directional attacks it goes, "Is enemy in 2 meters and front arc? If Yes attack can be used." DayZ has to track bullets which have drop rates and damage fall off and see if they hit or miss and where they hit what items were in that location. If it hits some objects it ricochets and the engine computes that and if anything is along the new path and how much speed it lost... MMO-RPGs are, for the most part, a graphical MUD with very simple calculations going on in the back ground.
  5. How do I put this in a way that it doesn't come across as "Learn2playNewb"? The controls feel different than other games because they are. They will be switching that around at some point but having played DayZ in ARMA II all this time I can say that good players get used to it and after a bit it feels natural and you are fully in control. Bad players go on complaining about it. Since you look new to the concept I will assume you will eventually grow used to it and feel in control again.

I found a gun! What now?

This is not working yet. Give them time. One really nice thing about the Mosin is the built in magazine making it easier to get to using it. The issue is you have 5 shots then you need to go into your inventory while M4s just require a spare mag.
  7. The Irony is killing you too? My thought was, BF4 just released, why are we trying to play DayZ SA like it is BF4?
  8. Well, there are some natural consequences, some of which you mentioned like Zombies being attracted to the area and if they are harder to deal with then making noise becomes a bad thing. Gear destruction is a natural consequence. I've been killed 3 times and had a guy combat log on me. However I know that in taking me down all those guys that killed me... and the combat logger that tried... probably have some pretty messed up gear as well as being low on health because blood was squirting out of them. So all that gear they found, is now probably at the "ruined" state and my gear, which wasn't always pristine is now also at the ruined state which means they are alive, but their gear is messed up. Had that firefight not occurred then their gear would still be in good condition. Eventually having ruined gear will mean it really won't function and so firefights might leave the survivor in worse shape than if he had just let the other guy go his way.

    So what heals you now?

When the messages start saying things like, "You feel really full."? I kinda thought that was obvious.... apparently not.
  10. mercules

    Random Heart Attacks?

Axe to the back of the skull? It's pretty immediate.
  11. Say that when 5 of them agro on you at once. Sadly in most places you will find 5 spread across a moderate sized town but I was on during the daytime(I know right?) and ended up with 5 zeds on my butt out in the open. It was not a fun fight. :) Okay, I take that back it was totally fun but not a situation I would want to be in on a regular basis.
  12. Yep, but there will always be those that will go out of their way and bring misery and hardship to themselves to tear someone else down... just because. So it won't go away, but maybe there will eventually be some consequences for it that make sense. :)

    unconscious look stupid =(

I seem to remember all the times I was unconscious I wasn't able to see or hear what was going on around me. Hmmmmmmm.... :)

    So what heals you now?

    1. "a while" - so like 10 minutes? IT takes hours to heal up that far and you need to be full that whole time 2. Getting a "I am hungry." message and then eating does not mean you are full, it means you are no longer starving. Eat some more.

FYI, there are trap servers that wipe your character.

No, that is only for people who want to make DayZ SA better, not the ones that just want to complain about it. Sheeesss... get it straight.
  16. The issue is that other people in real life would have something beyond the crap on their back to bring to the mix of a group. In the game your character value is for the most part your gear. So for most lone wolves all another player tends to be false under two categories: Threat or Loot. Since both categories work well with putting a bullet into that other players head that is what they do. That is a system issue. In real life during something like this you might want to NOT run around shooting everyone you see because all those other people might have valuable skills and you can't tell what they are with a quick glance what what they are wearing and carrying. That guy might be a Dr. or First Responder and could end up saving your life if you fall ill or get hurt. That guy might be a mechanic and can get a car running from spare parts. Heck, pencil pusher accountant might be able to look at some records in an office and tell you where a supply of food might be cached from the receipts. The other thing that pushes it is death not meaning anything. You die, you respawn, you gear up. You don't care about the avatar since there is nothing about it that it took effort to get. In some cases you were lucky, in others it was a small time investment, and in yet others you farmed loot server hopping so who cares you can do it again. People who don't care about that life just charge in and do it all over. For them that becomes the game. Not how long can I stay alive, but how quickly can I be able to kill someone else. It's a reversal of the idea behind the game. It's fine to always have that threat but I have already been killed with literally nothing but the starter gear you drop with which means I was killed to no advantage to the person killing me. THAT is KoS not, "Oh... he has a gun and doesn't realize we are here. We could ambush him when he comes out of that house and then have a gun as well as Axes."
  17. Ehem.... this happens on public servers even when loot DOES Respawn. It is an issue I had forgotten about because in DayZ Mod I don't go near Airfields/Cherno/Electro. I pick up the occasion military loot in Berezino and such. In Epoch most of them are private servers, which makes total sense with the permanent structures. I love the redundancy of server hives, but I hate the server hopping. Hopefully Rocket will find a middle ground.

What are your BIGGEST issues in the game?

Yes, user error. The rest of us figured it out. Simple press of a single key.

    the melee system is crap

Hit them in the head, while they are down and getting back up wail on them. Same thing for the crowbar. This is the damage type of the axe is different and so effects them more directly damage wise but the others can knock them prone.

    the melee system is crap

Depending on what will depend on what happens. You can clock someone in the head with a fist and knock them out for a moment. Baseball bat is similar. Axe will straight out kill to the head. I axed a guy who pointed a Mosin at me in a building. I had seen him coming because of his flashlight then he heard me move, pulled the gun and raised it. I was going to say friendly but he raised the thing up to sight along it and I decided it was too late for that. Chop! Would have been a bit less ironic if he had had bullets or maybe spoken to me? He could have bluffed me away since he had range on me. Maybe he expected me to run?
  21. Known issue. Bug report it and move on. Alpha.

    Pending Update Rev. 0.29.113822

...and if you tape 4 AAA batteries to the leads of a 9 volt and lick the ends your head will snap back and tongue go numb. It won't kill you but it isn't pleasant... but the other guy had to do the 5 shots that were in the bet. ;)

    the melee system is crap

A poor craftsman blames his tools, or an FPS gamer lag/hax/exploits/game systems.
  24. mercules

    the melee system is crap

Again... I have been 1 shotting zombies with axes which means I am hitting them and only using 1 swing. If I can figure it out I am fairly certain others can. I beat down two zombies with my fists by hitting them in the head and then getting a few shots in while they were down. Not sure what your issue is.
  25. mercules

    the melee system is crap

Guess what... the weapon has an actual swing arc and hits where it connects with the "target" or another object. That is why your "hit markers" are all over the place because it doesn't hit your cursor it collides and hits whatever is in the way. it doesn't "stop" yet because that animation isn't in the game. Learn where the weapon passes through and you can magically hit what you want.... or you could come bitch on the forums about it being horrible... which ever floats your boat. I'm going to go melee some zombies and one shot them. ;)
