I'll admit I occasionally get drawn into that. I've caught myself several times over the last few days going back through a post and rewording it to be a bit less inflammatory.

I'm of the Opinion that KoS will be shorted sight and wasteful....
mercules replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Oh, I think someone actually cares as we will see a post sometime soon of someone ranting about being shot with a sniper rifle as they spawned on the coast with nothing. :) I get the feeling they care about why someone would do that. :) #2 is absolutely false. When the shit hits the fan you will find human kind actually often flock together and group up. Those groups often do much better than individuals. -

The majority of your post is, "You agree with me, huh?" Which was a Strawman. -
DayZ zombies are not dead, they are infected but still alive and we are immune to the infection.
-
That comment seems suspect. No one liters their inventory with books. :) I've read most of the ones in game already anyway. I do know that there are a lot of players swearing there is no loot in Cherno so they can't get enough food to get anywhere else and just die. I watched a guy run into the supermarket, then into the Church then out of Cherno the other day... from the second story of an unlooted building where I found food. I went through all the little buildings with 1 or two spawn points and found more than I could carry in a backpack, hunter pants, and hoody.

No seriously, Get off the coast.

I guess most of you don't understand survival then. A group is better equipped to survive than individuals which is the how and why society formed in the first place. You don't end up with groups when you shoot at everyone you meet. You are actually actively going against your own best interests for survival. Now trusting everyone is stupid almost as stupid as trusting no one. -

PSA: From next DayZ update, if you disconnect while handcuffed, you will forfeit your character (they will die). #DayZ

The issue though, is that if they force you to stay then there is always Alt-F4. So if it crashes... too bad I'm sorry those other people who cheat had to ruin it for everyone. -
Why are people complaining about KOS like it's a feature issue?
mercules replied to kragz's topic in General Discussion
Killing on Sight is never logical. Killing other players often is but KOS means "Kill On Sight" which is very much that guy charging you with a fire extinguisher. It just doesn't make sense to spot a person and kill them. I am against KOS but not against player killing. I just think there should be more to killing another player than, "Because". -
Yes, and maybe not 15 Medical Doctors but 15 people with medical training is feasible. I do Tech Support for a living but am a First Responder.
-
Oddly enough in real life there are sorta classes, or at least skills sets. ;) For example having grown up with a mother who was an RN and had more medical training than some doctors as well as being a First Responder myself I do have a "Healing" skill set. I know what poisons to induce vomiting for and which not. I know how to treat most basic wounds and such. At the same time I would hesitate to have a class system. Rocket has stated he would like to have a system where people might get better at something the more they do it which would give characters themselves value. Imagine you had been doing the bandaging and other medical things for a group of people and now you can bandage in 1/4 of the time it takes others to do it and there is no chance of infection from a blood bag or you get more blood from a Saline drip or something like that. Are you going to want to risk your death to shoot some newspawn who has a flashlight and nothing else? Personally I would love it if we could pick a few "quirks" for our character and then using skills under those would actually gain more utility like Rocket's idea. Example. I get to pick 2 backgrounds out of say 15 possible. I avoid the mechanical ones and focus on cooking and medical ones so that I can get more out of food and do medical actions better. My friend grabs auto repair and gun maintenance so he can maintain the vehicles and guns we pick up, unjam(assuming they ever do) weapons easier and such. This would benefit group play but not to the point where it would disadvantage the lone wolf players. They would probably stick with gun maintenance and medical or something like that and just not have the tiny bonus from the rest.

As it was foretold in the records of note, so shall it be. Apparently I worship Rocket and DayZ because I think the Alpha is going okay, so I might as well get out the High Priest voice and language right? -
Suggestion: Yelling In Mic Increases Distance Heard
mercules replied to gaznox's topic in General Discussion
1. it would be difficult to implement. The client would have to constantly be sampling the mic while it is open and you would have to configure it ahead of time to determine what input level was "yelling". At which point someone could set the lowest possible level to "Yelling" and constantly be blasting super loud and far. 2. I don't think we need to be that immersed. xInfinityx's idea is a good one though. -

Want to know and even better kept secret? There are hundreds of games built JUST FOR SHOOTING THINGS. Any one of them will do for that. But lets take a game not built specifically for shooting at things and try and square peg a round hole with it because you can't go play the hundreds built for your special needs. ;) -
Nice in theory... rarely happens. Instead a bandwagon fallacy starts where 10 others pile on and keep agreeing with each other. Then since no one is disagreeing with them others think it is true and an actual bug. It is a bit of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation though because sometimes stating even a reasonable argument with them leads to being told you are wrong over and over. It's like can openers. People think they are rare but I have found one in every single life(I take that back I don't count the spawn near balota and get shot before I have picked anything up a life though) and often found more than one. My friends have all also found them for each life and had spares fairly often. Either we are hitting the luckiest of all runs on the odds or they are not rare but because people are probably not looking around very well they are not finding them and so assuming they are. Then others go, "You know... I didn't find one in 5 minutes either... they must be rare like he said." I'd like to mitigate that line of thought and maybe at the same time educate a few people in how to find them, "Look for them." :)

No, it sounds like you want to play a FPS where they actually track the kills.... I can't think of any off the top of my head... Um... Maybe COD/BF/Planetside/Unreal/Quake/every single OTHER FPS in existence currently that isn't DayZ.... Yes, anti-social behaviour would probably be compounded by an apocalypse, but guess what, those guys will probably die off fairly quick and don't respawn at the coast and run to the firehall for a new gun. Oh, and 99% of the population isn't anti-social/psychotic so we could use a few less people choosing to play that role. ;) -
I've spawned at Novy a couple times now. It was rather handy since the first time it wasn't picked over at all and I got geared up with everything but guns. :)

Kill On Sight <- read that There are tons of reasons to kill people in DayZ. There are almost none to simply shoot at someone because you spotted them. ;) -

mercules replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
You sir... are using KOS incorrectly. Even without "Kill On Sight" there are plenty of reasons to kill people. No one is saying we shouldn't be able to kill each other. We are saying the, "Player: BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM!" is stupid and unrealistic to a zombie apocalypse. That is what KOS is. There are a lot of people who do just that. No reason to shoot, probably plenty of reasons not to, but they are trained in most FPS to shoot as soon as they see movement. -

No one said they would be. We have only stated they should be a greater threat than they are now. Even now in larger numbers(I've had 5 on me at the most) they would be difficult to deal with. You can't slow them down and you can't shoot them all dead without wasting ammo. Going into Melee with 5 of them would be a bad idea, and the Zombies are placeholders. Zombies should and can be a threat and yes you can figure out how to deal with them but the point would be that you can shoot at players but risk "Not dealing" with zombies in that fashion and then have to get yourself out of that situation. -
You are in pain. Painkillers are hard to find but will fix the issue.

Hive System - People are already server hopping
mercules replied to mercules's topic in General Discussion
They don't have to. I haven't once server hopped and every single life I have ended up loaded with food and full on drink. It isn't hard at all. During one of my lives I spawned in Cherno and immediately assumed everything would be looted. Yes, the church and grocery store were empty but I found a ton of food, backpack, clothes, some medical gear, helmet, and can opener in all the little side buildings. Apparently a lot of people just head to the market and church and then server hop because I was loaded up just fine and it was hours since the last restart. -
There are no permanent fixtures implemented yet. Rocket had been asked that question during a stream and had said that would come later and they were thinking about doing things other than just tents.

Yes, but the opposite is also true. It would be better if there was a 50/50 split, right now it is about 99/1. :)
