Again I spawned in Cherno and watched a guy do the Church, Grocery Store, Firehall, GTFO of town dance. Meanwhile I was munching beans on a second story of some little tiny building where I found a Screwdriver and can. Look around people. :)

Starting a new character is currently too difficult... or I'm just not getting it
mercules replied to ace42 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I got Zombie agro in the dark. I started running and looked for places that were lighter. There was a streetlight up the way functioning and it wasn't much light but in the pool of radiance I was able to beat down the zombie. If you get lucky and find a head lamp use that when you get zombie agro. Run until you can turn it on and now I can have a melee weapon and still see the zombie. I sometimes giggle at what my fights look like to someone far away watching me duck and weave around zombies with my headlight bobbing. -
I never run into this sort of issue anymore. ;)

rocket, please reduce spawn rate of motorcycle helmets (or nerf them)
mercules replied to pojo2k8's topic in General Discussion
There are ballistic helmets and right now the Headlamp seems to be really handy for killing zombies in the dark since you can actually see AND use an Axe at the same time. I do like a Motorcycle helmet though. It makes sense if you think about it. I know if there is something like a zombie outbreak here my first move is to load the shotgun under my bed. Next up 10" bowie and ASP Baton. Then I hit my storage area for my paintball kneepads, gloves, and most importantly my pants. They are like a kevlar weave to resist tears and I would love to see something bite through that. Then I hit the nearest motorcross sales place for the chest and arm guards as well as a helmet. -
See the module on the "Stage Right" shoulder there? It would be our left and the model's right. I have a spare one that was lying around on my desk, grabbed it, and found it fit perfectly without putting any strain on any buttons. I don't use it very often but last night I had a long run through a clear field out in the middle of nowhere as I was cutting cross country and I really needed a bio-break.

do people actually want a complicated medical system?
mercules replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
I definitely want a complex medical system. When vehicles are included I want the repair system to be complex as well. I want to be the guy in my group with 3 medpacks on him and a variety of items to fix up various boo-boos. "Oh, you have an infection, here I have a syringe with tetracycline in it, quick shot and you will be good soon." Dean and crew will have to be careful though and not make it so the solution to most of this conditions is, "Die, respawn, run to body, pick up loot." This is part of the thread talking about making a player's life worth more to them so it isn't the sum of what they have looted in gear. We would have to make it so that someone who is infected wants that infection to be cured and not to be shot in the head so they can run back and grab their stuff. Otherwise it will be like the Mod where someone gets infected without antibiotics and offs themselves in an out of the way place then runs back to their body before anyone else finds it. -
How can we make a players life more important than his gear?
mercules replied to knawx's topic in General Discussion
How is that a detriment? I make characters of both genders regularly in this and other games. I won't get into too much of a political discussion on this forum but I am not a feminazi. I am a guy who has this weird idea that both genders are slammed with sexism. While men have some annoying sexist ideas forced upon them, women get the worst of it in general. The genders are not the same, but they are equal as are all people and everyone deserves the same opportunities. -

This would be why I bought one really nice(at the time) video card instead of 2 okay ones. I assumed most games wouldn't bother to support them.

Why are people complaining about KOS like it's a feature issue?
mercules replied to kragz's topic in General Discussion
It's not. See my post about the moron who got swarmed and died in the Mod. His attitude was not speculative, it was, "Player! SHOOT IT! QUICK SHOOT IT!" and there are many running around just like that. It becomes infectious and pretty soon even someone who is against it finds himself almost pulling the trigger just because it is another player. I pulled myself back from the brink because I had no clue if he was the only guy in the area. I just spotted him and went to scope and nearly pulled the trigger. See, the KOS mentality leads to people chasing others through a whole town trying to hit them with an axe... which is futile since they will never catch a person with nothing in their hands while running with an Axe, it just wont' happen, but they "gotta kill that guy". -
You realize they have stated that they will release the Alpha and at that point it will be cheap and then slowly rise in price as features are added until it finally leaves Alpha and is full price, right? So right now it is probably 50% off what it will be. This is the sale. ;)

Why are people complaining about KOS like it's a feature issue?
mercules replied to kragz's topic in General Discussion
Yes, but right now it doesn't and in the Mod it typically doesn't(you have to be very special to get yourself killed like that, but some people are). So my hope is that we will add in systems that weed out various levels of, well... "stupid". :) Then once people pause and think, "should I or shouldn't I?" then you have what DayZ was long ago and is on some private servers where you maybe don't trust people, but you occasionally interact with them. Believe those interactions make the times when they don't work out that much more interesting. -

ARGH! :) I have nothing wrong with killing people. Look up, to the post before yours. I am NOT talking about eliminating killing. I am talking about eliminating mindless blast everything killing. In the Mod I have literally watched people die to zombies(which are really easy to deal with in the mod) because they decided they had to shoot that guy who didn't even have a backpack yet. It was the dumbest move they could make but they had that Kill On sight mentality going and just shot because... well... player... that's what you do? Right? Shoot other players no matter what? I have NO issue with dying or killing. I do want things that discourage people from killing needlessly because in RL it would actually be a rather bad idea to do so constantly. Yeah.. I want a zombie appocolypse simulation not "CoD oh and there are some zombies or something..." We will see what happens when dean cranks up the zombies and puts in the new AI parts. -
Why is everyone so worried about killing on sight?
mercules replied to Mao Zedong's topic in General Discussion
Yes, but you probably also are not sprinting to the nearest military spawn, grabbing a gun and then going out to find someone to shoot on purpose without concerning yourself about food or drink. We already have thos KOS players trying to play the game not like DayZ but like Quake without starting guns. ;) THAT is what I hate. I don't want killing taken out of the game, I really don't. What I want to see happening is making randomly blasting someone a bad idea. If the zombies are challenging enough that you don't want to draw a horde onto yourself from firing a gun, that would be awesome. If you don't want to risk shooting some random harmless player because death actually means something, that would be awesome. I want people to at least consider if shooting someone is a good thing or not. Right now with the state of the game even for someone who in the Mod let countless people pass right by I don't see much of a reason to do so in the SA. -

mercules replied to Mao Zedong's topic in General Discussion
Yes, it does happen up-north. It happens nearly everywhere. It's like this clip only with BANG following "squirrel". I have watching it in the Mod where a guy surrounded by zombies that were not attacking him and not knowing other players are about decided shooting some other guy at the other end of the airfield with CCO rifle was a grand idea. Since I was fairly certain I also had players about I hadn't seen I didn't help the other guy out by putting a bullet in the guy spraying down field and being swarmed by zombies. I just backed away slowly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSUXXzN26zg -

mercules replied to kragz's topic in General Discussion
Shall I again point out that I kill people, I just don't KOS people. KOS is "Oh guy." Shoot "Player." Shoot "Newspaw" Shoot... then listen for any whining so you can drink his salty tears Not, "Hmmmmm... I think I'll follow this guy and see if he has anything I need. Looks like he is alone. Should I even try to rob him? Not a good area and he does have Mosin although he doesn't have it out like he has ammo. I had better not risk it. Okay, there is my shot." Blam. -

mercules replied to Mao Zedong's topic in General Discussion
Yes, but sandbox doesn't mean, "Let's sculpt a really big dick then giggle like we are 12." to everyone. I mean there are those people. KOS is akin to that. Killing is not, but KOS is. We you figure out the difference between the two you will understand why I dislike KOS. -

I have never once Killed On Sight. I have however killed. There is a HUGE difference between the two things. -
I'm of the Opinion that KoS will be shorted sight and wasteful....
mercules replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
No, apocalypses have come and gone and people didn't go extinct form all turning into sociopaths. That just doesn't happen. You are missing the point that every other game has exactly the KOS you are looking for and this is one of the few to offer some validity to some OTHER gameplay style. Imagine in Quake if I went, "Here I have some extra health so have some." That would do what in that game? "Hey man I'll trade you some armor for some shield?" This is exactly the game I want to play. I just don't understand why YOU want to play it too. I mean there is ARMA III which offers similar mechanics and all you do for the whole thing is shoot at people. Just saying. -
Why is everyone so worried about killing on sight?
mercules replied to Mao Zedong's topic in General Discussion
Nope... just the "I drink their salty tears". people, because that is very likely why they act that way. -
Why is everyone so worried about killing on sight?
mercules replied to Mao Zedong's topic in General Discussion
*sigh* I kill, but I don't Kill On Sight. I even kill unaware people who are not trying to kill me actively at the moment. It is still retarded to give away your position with a gunshot just to shoot someone for the lolz. No, they are not evil for playing COD/BF/Quake/Unreal they are just a little slow not realizing it's actually fun to not play DayZ like every other game out there. :) -

Would you please tell your mommy that positive attention is more effective at developing self esteem than negative... and then ask her for a hug? -
Why are people complaining about KOS like it's a feature issue?
mercules replied to kragz's topic in General Discussion
Um... I have heard plenty of stories of people being pummeled to death on the beach by fists after they spawned. We are bordering on a very high percentage of sociopaths. :D -
Why are people complaining about KOS like it's a feature issue?
mercules replied to kragz's topic in General Discussion
Of course not, but there are ways to discourage it. One way is to make your life actually matter so that people are less likely to risk shooting "for the lolz". Especially if they raise zombies up to the threat level they have talked about. They will never be as dangerous as a player, but make it so drawing their attention isn't easily dealt with and so that your death actually matters other than gear and I think you will see less people just blasting away without thought. -

mercules replied to Mao Zedong's topic in General Discussion
I know a few good therapists that can help you with that low self esteem issue. Also, you are wrong, they whine just as much in Battlefield. "Oh that's bullshit. Mod someone is camping the base or hacking." Mod replies that I am no where near their base and he was surprised I could hit them that far away with that rifle. :)
