To Rocket : you could do something to make the PVP more interesting.
mercules replied to EalDrakiaz's topic in General Discussion
There was a study in... Late 80s? Early 90s? That interviewed a large number of people with a test designed to measure empathy and other areas. Those who score lower than... 19? 20? are considered to have Psychopathic tendencies. I believe the result was around 1.5% of the population. Guess who works for a company that makes software for psychological testing and used to work in group homes for kids with behavioural issues. I've got a few close friends who are therapists as well and I spend some parts of my day chatting with psychologists. -
Color degradation from blood loss has to go (loss of visual fidelity)
mercules replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
No, the problem is that you don't understand what a survival simulation game is supposed to be. In real life if you have a severe drop in blood, Hypovolemia, your vision will often become grey and fuzzy. Colors become less intense and you have troubles focussing. Now I have never lost that much blood, but I have had similar issues from lack of oxygen when I was choked out. Before everything went black, it "faded" down to grey. I am sorry the game is too real for you. Maybe you would prefer some other game that allows you to operate normally even when half dead?- 172 replies

I've done it in Minnesota's Winter. You don't get a "Cold" from being cold. Now being cold can run down your body and make it harder to fight off a virus you have been exposed to. Correlation does not imply causation.

No... actually a psychopath doesn't need to kill anyone and not everyone who kills people, like serial kilers are psychopaths. Actually the medical community recently split psychopathy as a diagnosis and term up. In general though it means someone who lacks empathy and is unable to create interpersonal ties to other people. They also tend to lack remorse simply because they don't relate to others. I've dealt with a couple in my times and they are some of the scariest kids I've ever met. -
You mean since the late 80s like myself? Everyquest was built off the backbone of online multiplayer adventure MUDs.

actually I was simply pointing out one of the most commonly used logical fallacies. It boils down to, "If you don't' agree with me it's because you are a X." See, if I like something it doesn't mean I haven't taken the time to consider it's merits and flaws. However you stated that the majority of the forum(hey I'm in that grouping!) seems to like the game and are thoughtless "Yes Men". Now you are compounding it by again stating that if I seem to feel the need of defending opposing points of view to yours, then I MUST be of said catgory of "Yes Men". I can logically and impartially consider something and then actually like it.

Server Hopping, DayZ Top Experience Ruining Factor.
mercules replied to Ducard's topic in General Discussion
Well, that isn't true either. Somewhere in the middle is where the actual answer is. I hit the NEAF and found 4 clips in the one building and another in a hanger. Of course a server hopper popped in while I was in the big building fully geared up with ballistic armor and such and killed me, but I'm sure people don't server hop on a regular basis.... right... <_< -

I'd be willing to wager the amount was at least 80% of them. ;) My friend just spent the day basically camping Barracks with a scoped gun. Not in the actual barracks but in good view of them. Sounds like he had a good day bagging server hoppers. -
Because actual doors don't usually open in either direction depending on which side you are on. In real life most doors to the outside open outwards and interior doors often open into the room they let you enter. I haven't really thought about it too much in game but I believe most of them follow that standard. We would have to equip every door in Chernarus with these hinges to have them make sense opening either direction, because people are too stupid to note which way a door opens and not STAND THERE.
-
Ah... you are the reason doors in real life have "Push" or "Pull" stamped into the handle. Really, how hard is it to run up to a building and open the door without standing 10cm from it?

I told this to a guy who once called me a "sheeple" during a discussion about politics. "Agreeing with something does not mean I haven't put thought in to any more than you disagreeing with it means you have."

Now I am going to address your preemptive Ad Hominem attack. https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/ad-hominem I can keep objectivity even when I enjoy the work Rocket is doing. I've watched nearly every interview and streaming he has done out there and listened to the questions people are asking him and his answers. I do NOT agree with everything he is planning on doing, however there is a good deal I do agree with. Very often people post things without understanding the direction of the game. Like you. I am not a "Yes Man" in telling you that Rocket has some of these requests and from his responses it doesn't seem like a way he wants to take the game. You know what? Liking the direction he is going is not mindlessly kissing ass. It means I thought about the changes and proposed systems and went, "Yeah... I want to play that game." There is nothing wrong with that just like you are actually any more insightful because you don't like something.

Most of the elements you list are things I actively avoid in every MMO I play. 1. Factions - Yep, don't care. Rift has factions... don't care. SW:TOR has factions... don't care. DCU has factions... don't care. EQ:II has factions... don't care. 2. While there will be some basebuilding/fortifying of buildings in the future your vision of it is a bit over the top. 3. DayZ mod was an awesome concept but flawed by engine limitations. The scope does have to expand beyond the Mod or you will end up with the same issue as the mod. This game isn't an MMO it is using a MMO style of architecture to move away from some of the issues it had with hacking. That is it. Of course it is grindy, it's a survival sim and survival is one long daily grind. 4. HELL NO. Nothing 3rd party should every be allowed to attach to DayZ. That is a very serious security hole and has been on every MMO that allows them. The UI is rather nice as is even being a placeholder. Clean and fuctions well. 5. Zombies do need to be tougher but they will never be as creative versatile or exciting as interaction, combat and non-combat, with a human being. I HOPE this game becomes a Niche game because then it can be a good game instead of chasing the almighty dollar and lowest common denominator players. I've seen what happens when a game completely suited to being a very solid niche game with a hardcore fan base keeping it going to catering to everyone else. You end up with Mechwarrior Online where neither the hardcore fans nor the casual or new base are remotely happy. In my experience the best way to kill a game is to try to appeal to a "broader audience" because then you lose everyone. Figure out who will want to play your game, work towards making the game they want first, then carefully add in small things that make it more approachable to everyone else.

I like it how the OP is mentioning things that already exist in the game like hunter pants and is ignorant enough to not understand that it isn't BDUs most of us are wearing that makes up look "military" as he puts it, but the things he suggests as updates that already exist in the game. That couldn't be why we are giving him a hard time though, could it? :)
-
Yes, but you will see him a LOT easier in bright red, orange, and purple even without being "experienced". People didn't wear ghillie suits in the Mod because it made them look cool, but because it really did help you blend in a bit, at least at less than 200m.

Damn you! You robbed me of my leaping on you with furious indignation about checking the config menu! :D

Left over from the engine. Basically there used to be a "Joined" announcement and then messages when someone was using a different data file than was "Official" to the server. It's left over from the ARMA stuff in the engine. You will be happy to know it is part of the next update to remove the message.

Yep... One of these days I am going to craft the Burlap bag into a backpack just to see what it is like but right now the other backpacks are common enough that it isn't worth trying to find sticks, rope, and a burlap sack.

The 5 extra slots are not worth standing out while running through the wilderness. Blue would be better. I tend to grab the green one. As I stated, I am NOT going for a military look, I am wearing colors that blend me into the background so I am less likely to be shot and killed by a player who happened to notice a bright violet backpack, blue jeans, and orange shirt I was wearing.
-
Alt-F4 does actually crash the game. :)

So you are saying I should find some Combat Boots, huh? :) We look military because military gear is designed to blend in, sticking out in an bright red and black hoody while running around alone will get you noticed more often than a camouflaged coat or even a Green Raincoat. My character tends to find Hunter Pants but I'm not opposed to grey/black cargo pants either. Usually I wear a Green Raincoat if I can find one that isn't damaged. Then I'll go with either the Hunting Backpack or the Green Mountain pack. Anything grey/brown/green is what I tend to end up using because it blends in and as a side effect I tend to look like a soldier in camo because they are trying to blend in. <_<

Ballistic vests protect against ballistic damage... interestingly enough. Axes do cutting/chopping, whatever term they are using for it, damage. Bullets do one type of damage, blunt objects another, and axes a third. Not sure if knives share that type of damage or not. I do know Dean made it a point of stating that different pieces of reinforced clothing handle different types of damage better or worse.
