Go play BreakingPoint, or Exile+Zombies. That is "vanilla mod 2.0".
-
In a situation like this I would definitely work on being stealthier and more camouflaged. I have built my own camouflage that was set up to match the area I was in and have played woddsballl paintball in it and shocked people from about 5-6 yards away from me as they did not see me. That could be an asset in an apocalypse and hiding is a real thing. Unfortunately they don't work in game because of rendering issues and zombies ignore camouflage completely so they are pretty worthless right now. Camo is desired. Working camo in game is a must. Engine might not allow it though. Otherwise I would totally sneak through a zed filled town with a silenced weapon and stealth loot the place like I could in old, old, old dayz mod.

All you Hardcore players packed it up and left?
mercules replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion
Yep, when playing with the Gents of Novo I have to play 3rd but I prefer first. I wish at least one of their servers was a 1st only. We like the community though. -
You realize Ghillie does nothing for you at the ranges most snipers operate, right? You show up as a man shaped maybe a tiny bit bushy laying on a flat featureless plane of ground. Now if someone is about 60 meters from you... those guys probably can't spot you.

How does it feel to know that your game is years behind arma 3 exile
mercules replied to TDFBuster's topic in General Discussion
Exile is... well it is what a lot of people were expecting from EpochMod. Most of the servers add in roaming AI and/or the Zombies and Demons mod. What that really means is spawning in AI that has plenty of issues. The Zombies and Demons mod most add is not configured well on 99% of the servers that add it and a bit "broken" for the game. Yeah, they "have zombies" but they are more primitive than the ARMA II DayZMod zombies which at least had to detect you through sound or sight before argo-ing while these zombies spawn nearby already agro'd. Same issue as most "roaming" AI spawners where they have a magical sense of where you are as long as you are within 300 meters of them. Still tons of ARMA III bugs and ExileMod bugs out there. I died running up the stairs I had just used the snap construction tool to put into place. Move up stairs, float at top, float, float, unconscious, and dead. I blew up a truck constructing something because the non-existing piece has some collisions and contacted the vehicle. The one chopper I saved up for and bought would burn through 1L of fuel for ever second the engine was on. It didn't leak, was 100% repaired, but turn on the engine and watch the fuel tick down. It was silly. Fuel truck rolled off a cliff edge as I was fleeing for my life in it. Rolled 5 times then slowly righted itself. It took no damage. There should have been an Earthshattering kaboom or at least a fire. ;) Exile is fun but it can't touch DayZ SA for functionality and is just as buggy. Graphics are normal ArmaIII and the models move horribly. -
Anyone feel like hunger/thirst have been out of whack since forever?

You need to look up the definition of hyperbole. What you are stating is untrue. -
You would not believe how many people I see and don't interact with. Just today I saw two people on a U.S. server in the middle of the day when it was quiet and only 10-15 people on at a time. One was in a little out of the way place with 4 houses and a couple sheds that I figured no one would be at. I still check though and sure enough when I cautiously approached there was another player zipping from house to house looting at mach 4. I watched him till he left and went the opposite way as I still had no real weapon at all. About a month ago I shot a guy through a house window standing much like you were from another house. I had seen him coming and holed up but kept a watch out. It was a 1st person server so I had to keep peeking around. You were on a 3rd person server so the likely hood of someone keeping an eye on you without you seeing them skyrockets. I was able to shoot my guy unawares on a first person server so it doesn't seem far fetched that someone did something similar to you on a 3rd where they can easily hide until you are looking away. Then again most of the time you were staring at the floor not looking around or out windows so they could have been standing in full sight and shot you.

Is it time for single player mode yet?
mercules replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
More a comment on the impatience of some people than how long it takes DayZ to load on a computer. 2-3 minutes is a blip in time not worth mentioning. -

Oh no... a whole 2-3 minutes? The horror. -

All characters have Keratomalacia and until carrots are introduced as a food it will simply get worse. -
Forgot one: Playing with Friends - Since each character on a private server is it's own you can all stop where you are in a group and geared up and then join back up later one when you can all play again and you haven't left the area, gotten kills, or had to NOT PLAY for several days. Use another private server for a single character and one you play with a group of friends. In public if I can't play for three days my friends are likely to be all the way across the map or regearing the next time we get a change to play together. ;)
-
To me the advantages of private servers always outway the public servers. 1. No Ghosting 2. No server hopping across multiple servers to gather loot quicker 3. Reputation - for example on Gents of Novo my Novo is a "safe" city meaning it is the place to go and trade. Various traders will actually set up shop in the main square and my friend and I have actually spent time growing gardens and offering food to anyone passing through. With it being some of the same people coming on you end up with things like, "Oh, my friend told me about you guys." and such. If someone is a backstabber who will try and "friend" you only to take you out while you are drinking or bandaging or something other people hear about it and start to be wary of them. 4. Loot - a lot of times on public servers you get somewhere and 100 people have been through that spot in the last few hours leaving NOTHING. The logged on here, looted a town/base, and logged off to go do the same on another server. On a private server only those who regularly play on that server have been on and gone through the area and only if they played long enough to reach that area.

Ok, so all that seems to happen in this patch...

Yep, running would be some of the issue. Some people sprint everywhere and when not sprinting are run/jogging. I actually have a walk button bound and use it especially in interiors. I also often clear interiors with my gun up which also slows you down. One other factor is I own a Track-IR and so can glance around interiors just like in RL which helps a LOT with the maneuvering. I don't walk down the barracks hallway like this _/_/_/_/ poking my face into each door but instead move straight down it glancing into each open door with a glance of my head and I can sweep the whole room that way. I then work my way back gun up opening the closed doors and "pie" clearing them. See in an interior I don't have to turn, move forward, move back, turn more, and such just to look around, I just turn my head so I guess they might seem less clunky to me. I have been playing FPS since the days of Castle Wolfenstein, I mean the original. DukeNukem3D and Battlefield 1942 were huge LAN party staples along side Quake (1-3), Unreal and Unreal Tournament series, HalfLife, Counter Strike, even the Jedi games. The Mechwarrior series was also a mainstay for us in the old days and there you look/aim one direction and move another so I guess I am just used to glancing at a scene and understanding where my avatar can move within that imaginary space. In Mechwarrior:Online I play a lot of Light mechs and the ones I like most can move upwards of 171kph. My Track-IR works there too so I am often glancing out a side cockpit while twisting my torso to avoid damage to one location and turning around corners at max speed. I dodge through entire mech teams while swiveling so their lasers and other weapons spread damage and don't take out one particular area. So it's possible I am better at mental maps and spatial awareness in the games. Real Life is so much worse for me than the fine control of games. Lets put it this way. I am one of those people who is likely to turn and have my elbow knock a glass off the counter. Then again I am also likely to snake my foot out so the glass lands on that and doesn't shatter into a million pieces or catch it half way to the floor. -
Let me save you a headache and tell you where to NOT setup camp
mercules replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
People play on public servers? Blech! At least on a private server you know someone has to physically move through and area to get to where you are and can't just server hop over and over at a good location to get gear but have to actually move around the map. -

This, is exactly how I like DayZ PVP to be. -
Almost like random loot is random... isn't it? <_<

I don't have those issues in DayZ although I sometimes do in ARMA especially in modded buildings people have put together. In real life I stub my toes on shoes if not watching where I am going and can't walk over backpacks without slowing down while in the other games you mentioned I feel "floaty" like the terrain and objects around me have no weight or mass for me to interact with. -

According to what the devs are designing, your playstyle is a bit wrong. Grab a gun and be PVPing inside 15 minutes is not how the game design is going so yeah you are going to be disappointed if that is how you like to play. We aren't telling you your style is wrong as much as WARNING YOU this game won't be designed for that playstyle. ;) There are literally THOUSANDS of games that fit the "niche" you just described as how you enjoy playing. There are only a few survival games like DayZ and most don't come close to DayZ's growing survival aspect and those that do tend to be single player. So DayZ is a niche that is going to move away from the way you play because there are thousands of others that you could instead play that give you most of that "I shot someone" reward you crave. -
Supressing voice-chat outside of Dayz (Skype, Mumble, TS3, etc.)
mercules replied to S3V3N's topic in General Discussion
It's not getting offended over "stupid shit" it is getting offended over an ignorant stereotype you presented. If you associate with autistics then you should already know what you said was a stupid generalization that lumps them all into one group and accentuates some of the more negative qualities of the stereotype. In other words you should know better and have better social graces than that when specifically talking about a group of people and insinuation they have no social graces. It's actually irony. -
In all actuality you would leave the "backup" winchester in the tent and use the best gun you had, the SVD. Why? Because on your body it can't be taken from you without killing you while in the tent it can be looted without you even being online, much less around your tent.

Little offended here... Autistic people still have friends. Racial, sexists, and other stereotype bashing is not allowed on the forum. -

It was a better survival game than any of the other ones that existed at the time... of which there were none. ;) ARMA is clunky, but so is real life. I played another FPS recently and had to comment on how I felt like I was floating everywhere on jetskates. Maybe I'm just too used to ARMA/DayZ mechanics. -

1. If you "craft" something and it vanishes look around, in fact look outside the building. Usually that means you don't have room for it(which starting out is very likely) and the game places it on the ground only it doesn't always place it at your feet, sometimes it is through a wall on the ground. 2. If you are getting kicked from non-private servers... REPORT THEM. It's the only way it will stop happening. Um.... What? DayZ has always been a survival game. Even the MOD was a survival game although it's systems were simpler. In the mod you needed bandages, food, drink, painkillers, morphine, and other basic survival gear. Yes, during the early parts of SA there was not a whole lot of survival needed, but it was ALWAYS meant to be there. If you want a great PVP game that plays similar to DayZ without the survival aspect Check out Wasteland mod for ARMA III.
