Except 3rd person view doesn't give you peripheral vision, it just moves the view up and back enough to look over things. Your FOV is the same as 1st.
-
Stop saying "You". People can simply mute their mic to get around your "features" that give away their position. At that point they can use other software/hardware to communicate and gain all the advantages of talking to their friends with none of the disadvantages of the system you are proposing (for like the 4th time in the last year) to have. So your changes have done nothing but inconvenience a few players and disadvantage the rest. Waste of time.
-
No it can't. Now you are talking sci-fi for it to do so probably. All for something I can bypass in 30 seconds by owning a smart phone and a mic with a mute button.
-
All mics are different. Windows setting will also determine how much the mic picks up. It is a LOT of work and not as simple as you are trying to say it is.
-
Weird, muting my mic is the single press of a button that turns red. It turns green when I unmute it. Yeah, that is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much trouble to bother with. <_<

Guys, it's already on the horizon. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/156129-confirmed-upcoming-features-for-dayz/

I don't understand this. When you turn off headbob and adjust the FOV you end up with the same basic view that doesn't include a body and doesn't have the ability to look around corners or over walls. The only thing I can think of that would make a difference might be that the body gives you a reference point. At that point, however, you shouldn't be able to watch any movies that drop into First Person without feeling ill either.

Because if the option never existed people would just play the game? Because 3rd person was an option that is how people played. You really don't see, "I need 3rd person or I won't play." discussions coming up in the dozens of First Person only games out there. People just go about their business in game and never even think about it. Because it exists in this game you are forced to utilize it. Because it exists it gives people the out and easy option so the majority take it. Just like when there are options for servers where you start with weapons and can find a vehicle easily because there are 1000+ people take that option. At the same time they miss out on an experience that is actually better and doesn't include those options. It might sound selfish, but in some ways I am really advocating on your behalf as well. The game is more interesting in first person. 3rd is ONLY better because it makes the game easier.
-
Okay, how does the game determine that? Scale slider? So people with "quiet" mics will broadcast less far and those with "sensitive" mics will broadcast even their breath 200m? So we put a way for a person to adjust this into the game so they can calibrate it. Now they just calibrate it so anything less than a scream is not broadcast and simply go back to talking on 3rd party VOIP with their friends at a normal talking level.

Tell her to turn off head bob and adjust the FOV. That will likely cure her issue.

Whoa! Hold up here! Just because I can tell you exactly how to work around the rule doesn't mean I would personally do it. Accusing me of doing so is a dick move. The truth of the matter is that I am realistic enough and have enough experience to tell you that if there is an easy way to bypass it, and there is, then "Most" of the people won't play by your rules. Server hopping is an easy way to gain additional loot. It isn't the way the game is supposed to be played, but there are a ton of people who do it. I personally do not. You are being naive if you think that the majority of the player base would not find away around this and abuse the system. All it is going to do is give us honest people a disadvantage and THAT is why I am against it.
-
No it doesn't. With 3rd person you can swing your view around to the front and see if you are in cover or not. In FPV you can't be certain your foot isn't sticking out but in TPV you just swing 180 degerees and check.

Dean had mentioned that "base building" and crafting would eventually be something coming into SA but not at first. Core gameplay down then adding in the goodies.
-
See, that actually isn't true. An old poll on the forums pointed out that a lot of people actually prefer 1st person but play on 3rd person servers. I am one of them because I have friends that tend to take the easy way out. Even they, who prefer 3rd person because it actually is easier, have admitted they would still play DayZ if it was 1st person only, but because the option exists.... guess where they want to go. 3rd person = easy mode.
-
Or we don't need to rely on crutches to play and so don't mind them going away. ;)
-
This is the main point. It is so incredibly easy to bypass and so hard to implement correctly that it is a waste of time to do.

MUTE BUTTON! Hardware headphones and mic. Plugs into my 7.1 surround sound ports. Windows has no idea if my mic is active or not so DayZ SA wouldn't have a chance to ever know. I have a phone that can run Skype and can tuck an earbud into my normal headphones comfortably(I sometimes do while watching a show on the iPad while doing something on the computer that takes only half my attention). Now I can chat with my friends all day long, DayZ can't broadcast it, and I can still flick my normal mic on to talk to people in game if I want to.
-
No, you can say this about any sort of unenforceable rule. What are you going to do? Scan my computer to be certain I have a mic and it is turned on? Scan my router to make sure I don't have a phone running Skype? What happens when I am in game and my daughter decides to Skype with a friend from her iPod/phone? There is no way to enforce it and incredibly simple ways around it. My mic is hardware based. The mute button is outside Window's knowledge. There is no way for you to force my mic on or me to broadcast in game. I can then use another device to communicate with my friends. You have now screwed anyone who hasn't thought of this simple thing and added complexity to the game for very little benefit since everyone will eventually disable it.

Zombies don't have a TPV option. Once pathing is fixed and more and more zombies are added TPV will definitely give an advantage in looting since Zombies don't get to use it. ;) I almost forgot. With TPV you line up your shot in advance, then pop out of cover to take it. The reaction time from when you pop out to when you shoot is minuscule for the other player. In addition combat with TPV boils down to this. Both people get into cover and watch with TPV. Eventually someone decides they have to move, they leave cover and other guy shoots them. If you pop out to lay down covering fire it doesn't work because the other guy and clearly see where you are and even with another player on your side then moving he can slide over to where you are not firing, pop up and shoot your buddy before you can slide the fire over there. That is if he didn't just shoot you while you were sitting there firing blindly at cover.
-
So even more incentive to cheat the system? Since it would be fairly easy to do....
-
Eddie Izzard gets that sometimes having two options still means there is only one choice. Right now the only option is 3rd person. Eventually it will be 3rd person or 1st person but it will still only be 3rd person, just like in the Mod. As for spatial awareness... it's still bullshit. I don't stumble and get stuck on everything in games that only have First Person because after just a bit of playing you learn what space your virtual body occupies just like in real life. All it does is eliminate that very short learn curve.

Oh for the love of god Fix the Breathing! Do I have Asthma?
mercules replied to leviski's topic in General Discussion
Nope... Zoom does no such thing. Now using the Right Mouse Button to HOLD YOUR BREATH does, and it also zooms your view. There is a separate zoom option that works fine without holding your breath as well. -
Um... Internet... it would take all of a day before people knew how to bypass it. Look, this "feature" has been suggested... what 8 times now? No one can find a good solution that can't be exploited because they can't control anything third party and software needs to be pretty special to override OS things in a manner that the user of the computer can't disable. All it will do is lag the game and cause honest people to have a disadvantage because it is UNENFORCABLE.
-
Apparently you don't understand that the technically minded among us can mute sounds in from going to certain programs and the non-technically minded can simply run Skype on a second computer or phone and bypass said security.
-
disheartened and disappointed someone explain ? D:

I want to address the map thing. This game strives for some realistic points. As someone new to the area you really have no clue where anything is. Having a magical map you can access is not the solution. Doing what you would do in real life IS the solution. Follow a road or powerlines. You know those two things go somewhere where people once were. You spent an hour+ in the game and only found 5 items? Wow. I've found that much in about 10 minutes of play in a picked over Cherno and by that I mean 5 items I want to keep like a screwdriver, cans of food, clothing, and a melee weapon. Your best bet is to get off the coast and find another town. Drink a LOT of water from one of the well pumps then follow a road to another place, preferable inland. You will probably find more there. If you don't enjoy the game shelve it for 3months or so then come back and see what it is like. A lot is going to change as the year goes by and maybe you will enjoy it when it is a bit more fleshed out.
