TrackIR can be troublesome as well. For one thing I have literally run off a building because a slight tilt in my head left my viewing angle skewed and I thought I was going straight when I was in fact running at an angle. I've also missed shots because where my gun was pointing was not lined up with where I thought it was because of my head turn. I often forces you to look down the sights to be certain where your gun is pointed while someone without one can draw a simple dot on their monitor and use that as an aiming point on no crosshair servers(if you think some people are not doing that....). It has advantages and drawbacks to it. What TrackIR really does is it adds to immersion of the game. Funny how some of the 1st person advocates who claim 1st person is more immersive also use items like TrackIR or Occulus Rift.
-
You can do something very similar with a webcam and a program or by assigning head turning to various keys. I had already set something similar on my keypad but really like the TrackIR for the level of immersion it adds. I "glance" right and my view swings for me. Until you start dictating what GPUs and CPUs people use and how speedy their internet is you won't be able to balance the field as far as hardware goes. Some people will simply live in places with better internet or have better hardware.

DayZ, if you have followed any of the past of it, is not meant for you to have a gun right away. Your "22 hours" is hyperbole as you can usually find a gun and ammo within a 2 hour play session. Being a survival game you are not expected to survive or to always have the tools you need to do so, including guns. It is intended that you don't always have a gun. This is an important part of the game and if someone can not handle being without a gun then it is probable that this is not a game they will enjoy. So yeah, if you can't deal with it, GTFO. :)

Lies... I've never server hopped and have a M4. You don't "have" to, you choose to. Your numbers are way off. You have the NWAF with multiple spawn location there and I have actually seen three of them spawn in a Barracks. The new military base has two barracks. Balota has dozens of locations to spawn them. The NEAF has more. They also spawn on top of "schools" and "hospitals" and in Firehalls. There is likely 30-40 of them on a server at start.
-
It does. I bought one with some money from my mom from Christmas and what I was already saving up for hardware and I just realized last night how much I've started to rely on it especially flying/driving. I didn't get it activated before I fired up DayZ and the server was set to restart in 30 minutes so I figured I would just deal with it until the restart. I felt blind not being able to easily look around while flying or even just walking around. It REALLY helps a lot with flying and makes flying in 1st person even more viable.
-
He is... I've tried to pull off some of his flare bleeds he does and plowed into trees, ground, other vehicles and I was doing them about half the speed he does and in 3rd person much of the time. I have actually flown a Mozzie into a railway station and landed it on one of the platforms between train rails in a way I could get out. Dslyecxi would have done it at half to full speed instead of a crawl and just plopped down instantly on the platform instead of maneuvering for a minute or two. Since he plays strictly in first person he is a really good example of how you can actually drive/fly in 1st person, it just takes getting used to it.
-
So long, fair well.... The game actually gets better when the loot is less common. I think because it removes the people who can't handle the game.
-
Which will carry a penalty in the future, or at least a drawback. It will make them more rare on the subhives.

less M4s in a week... will everyone make a run on them?
mercules replied to unicornsmustdie's topic in General Discussion
A person states that in a week or so something is going to be different. I sit and wonder to myself, "Why would they say that? Where could they have found that out? If only there was a forum area where they post up coming changes and features and announce that they are are happening." Then I consider looking around but instead just post in this thread asking for the source instead of checking any obvious locations where it might be. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/165709-pending-changelog-experimental-branch-031114343/ -
A new player trying to fly is going to wasted a lot of vehicle spawns. End of story. Check out this video to see that it is very possible to fly in 1st Person since he always plays in First Person.

Most important bug for me, must have been fixed before they add more zeds/ walker
mercules replied to BlindOldMan's topic in General Discussion
The Zombies are not "rotting". They are infected similar to the Rage Virus in "28 Days Later". I am an average dude and I can easily break down the average house door and have. Unless the door has a reinforced frame most average people can kick it in with a bit of effort. Locks only keep honest people out. Oh, and for the OP: It's an Early Alpha, the zombie code is not in yet. Wait for it. -
You can force feed things to captives. Ehem...
-
You mean like vehicles? Rocket has stated they want to do vehicles correctly and that is the only reason they are not in the Alpha yet. So while this discussion is about something that won't be in the game for a while yet, it is not about something that won't every be in the game. Vehicles will be in the game.
-
I never stopped. I fully expected to run out of things to do in the SA because it is an ALPHA. I love the changes, but I swap between the two to keep from being bored. Just like I also play 2 other games right now.

Well... I would basically treat EVERYTHING as important to not be damaged. The reason I say this is because eventually they will add all that function. If you get accustom to not caring if your shoes are damaged now you will be more likely to be annoyed when damaged shoes give you blisters and slow down your running/walking in the future. I don't mean freak out if things are damaged, but I always check conditions and grab the items in the best condition. As for things it does matter for right now, this is one people forget, Compass. A Damaged one is much harder to read as the textures actually change.

In the mod nametags were occasionally nice because there were very limited skins. Everyone literally looked like everyone else. This is why other mods of the mod tended to add a bunch of different skins to the mix and once we were playing those we tended to not care about anything like nametags again. Even so it was nice that you could tag people in Epoch because others could use the same skins. In the Standalone, however, unless you are all wearing EXACTLY the same thing you can often tell friend from foe and each other apart. If not it can be as simple as changing one little thing to make yourself more obvious to friendlies. The trade-off is that then you become more easily identifiable to foes as well. Nametags at less than 5 meters wouldn't be a huge deal, but it would be worthless as identifiers to stop friendly fire because most firearm combats do not take place at 5m or less. So the OP is missing the point that his desired system does nothing to deal with the points he is giving as reasons for it such as not shooting the guy you met 20 minutes ago and were friendly with because you can identify him... yeah at spitting range which won't happen if you both have guns, no one gets that close without already trusting the person. So you are back to Voice to identify them as friendly which means the net effect of this change would be zilch and thus make it worthless to add. Nametags that appear further way are just right out. 10m is pushing it because I have literally hidden from someone 10m away and waited for them to pass through and I don't want a casual cursor scan to pop up my name even if it is in a corner.

Color degradation from blood loss has to go (loss of visual fidelity)
mercules replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
Yes, it is an immersion thing. Go back and read what I posted about Greyout and how it is a very realistic consequence of heavy blood loss. What you see as realistic in other games is actually innacurate. 1. knock of the insults. Disagreeing with you does not make people "cretins" and calling them that is not convincing us that you are not one yourself. 2. We don't hate on HDR lighting, we are enjoying our lovely colors because we understand how to play the game. We are sorry you do not but do not think a feature needs to go away because a few players are so bad at the game they don't get to see the color in it very often. The Greyout is realistic and an excellent feature. Running around seeing grey all the time means you are bad. You are a bad player who doesn't understand the game. You don't seem to get how poorly you play and the grey screen should be a the perfect indicator of how poorly you preform. You should be embarrassed to be complaining about running around with your screen grey all the time and should slink away in shame and learn to play. Grey color means you are playing poorly. How many other ways can we put it. TLDR: for the OP, "You suck, learn to play, then your screen will have color most of the time." No, he can act any way he pleases, however he will have to suffer the consequences if he goes too far, a bit like a crappy player running around with their screen all grey for hours on end is suffering the consequences of not understanding how to play the game. -
Then they should either educate themselves or purchase better equipment. Same thing goes for hiking. If you want to do ultra-light hiking you either educate yourself on how to make inexpensive gear that does what you need it to and tips to help you get more out of the weight you are carrying, or you go to an outdoors store and buy the more expensive ultra-light gear. This is the same in nearly every situation. Learn how to change your own oil for your car or risk a visit to the garage where many other issue might "accidentally" be discovered and you might mistakenly believe you need a transmission fluid flush because someone played on your ignorance.
-
The real question is, "Why risk it?" when you can... as was pointed out... manually do everything a "legit" FPS-booster would do.

True stories tend to be backed up by video. Enjoy your life.

I would suspect the problem is exactly the opposite meaning that it is you who does not understand how it works or it would be a non-issue for you and something to be cleaned up at a later date. It takes all of 3 minutes to get the feel for DayZ SA or Mod after playing other FPS games. If it takes you longer the problem isn't with the game...

I knew it would happen because it is a hive, but it is already hitting the annoying stage. I know the combat logging system is broke right now but this isn't even combat logging, this is hopping to the lowest population server where loot spawns and snatching it quick then hopping to the next server. Anecdotal evidence! Yes, only my experiences but three so far. I finally make it to NEAF. I have a Mosin but I also have several clips for an M4 and I am hoping to find accessories for one or the other. I do find an M4A1 and so ditch the Mosin as I have a ton of ammo for the M4. I also find a pistol and a clip for it. Things are looking up. I hit the new buildings and find a pristine fire axe. I am in heavy now when I hear the sound of reloading from the hallway. Now I had gotten into the habit of closing doors so I am hoping he doesn't suspect me being in there. I pull out my gun, cover the door, it flies open and he ducks to the side as I fire. He is wearing a ballistic vest and helmet so my shots hurt him but didn't kill him. He slips back around the door just far enough to return fire. I fire at him again but a close range M4 fight of about 10m with one guy in armor and the other wearing a raincoat. So there was no one in the building and you make a reloading sound when you log in with a gun. There were no footsteps. He logged in on the second floor. Now it could be he logged off there when he last played buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut.... somehow I don't think that was the case. He was heavily geared up from the brief time I saw him. So... fine. I respawn and end up in Cherno. Some of it is picked clean, like all the big buildings, but there still happens to be all the little stores and small homes full of goodies which I gather up. I've got food and drink, backpack, can opener, and I head out. I come across a pile of bodies from a firefight in the firehall(I figured what the heck). M4 two clips no bullets, pistol, holster... no wait tactical vest. Some of it is damaged. Not a single bullet. No big deal, I get out of Cherno with that. I don't bother to hit Ballota but head North. I hit Zub and move toward Green Mountain. I figure maybe someone missed 5 rounds or something or I'll get lucky. Sure enough I get there and the place is pretty picked over. However I get a larger backpack, pristine pants of the same sort, and I swap the damaged M4 for one that isn't damaged hiding under the bed. I start to run away from Green mountain satisfied that I at least got something out of it when I get the "No message received." Sure enough the server restarts. I realize I can spin around and maybe get some ammo. I move back in and grab some medical stuff then I hear a gun reloading. Remember, there was no one in there less than 5 minutes ago. I have a mosin in my hands because I had some ammo and ran across one and so I've been dropping and picking it up for two towns. I put a shot into the guy as he opens fire and duck around the corner while I reload. I put a second into him and he backs up the stairs to hide. I slide up the stairs and fire as he vanishes. Combat logger. Damn it. Well, he managed to grab all but a 10 shot mag that I grab and quickly load into my M4 right as I hear the reloading sound from the hallway. Second guy spawning into the newly rebooted server and he sees the door open so comes in spraying bullets. I return my 10 shots then pull my axe and hack him twice while he dumps rounds into me and then I'm dead. Well at least I'm near Ballota and the server just reset I might as well go for it. I run for it. I decide I'll just hit the airtraffic tower and hangers and get out. I get into the tower, no weapon on me, get up to the top and WATCH a guy spawn in with the reloading sound playing in my ears. I ran, it didn't matter. I don't know what the answer is. Locking people from logging in for 10 minutes when they switch servers seems like it will only annoy the honest guys, the others will simply do something else for 10 minutes then log into the least populous server that has likely restarted. Why? because 10 minutes is still shorter than running to yet another military loot spawn. It is really annoying when I survey and area, make sure there is no human activity. Clear Zombies. Start to go through buildings and some guy spawns in right there on top of me basically negating all the precautions I took.

Try not to say inane things that don't in any way refer to what I was talking about. Pro tip.

Apparently you have never accidentally fallen off of anything in real life. :)

*sigh* Not liking KOS mentality is not the same as not killing. I kill people and have no issue with being shot. What I hate is when someone spawns on the coast, runs about 20m and is shot in the head from someone camping the coast. What I hate is when I spawn and some other guy spawns nearby and runs at me trying to fist fight me to no single advantage to themselves. What? They need my shirt to tear into rags they now need because I hit them back and they are bleeding? I kill people in the game and I get killed. I am fine with it. However I hate the, "Oh player. *bang*" mentality because most of the time it is stupid. I like the fact that other people are going to shoot at me and try and take my stuff... but... you know... maybe let people get stuff first? :) Shooting a newspawn and wasting 1/5 to 1/4 of your ammo doing it seems a bit, well, stupid to me.
