Should zombies be a better source for loot?
mercules replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I had some asshat tell me that once concerning some software I support and QA. "It's a simple little thing to fix in C++ I don't know why your developers can't do it." I replied, "Um, because the software is written in Java so it will work on Macs as well? Do you know anything about Java?" His reply, "Well I'm sure it's simple in Java too." Yeah... move along buddy. -
Should zombies be a better source for loot?
mercules replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Epoch does this to some extent. Off "Police" zombies you can sometimes get a padlock or hotwire kit to drop, both of which are very useful. Off farmworkers you can sometimes get a Sledgehammer head needed for making a sledgehammer which is a handy tool. Off Buisness Suit zombies you can get LockBoxes. All these are handy things to have and so you not only shoot zombies, you actually go check the bodies for loot! :o I Know! -
Why Mouse Acceleration in First Person desperately needs Fixing #2 *Long Post*
mercules replied to 27 others's topic in General Discussion
Really? :) Check the quote above your own. Because it isn't a priority. DayZ:Mod has had it in there always. Once you take the time to get used to it it is really a non-issue. I could care less if they are going to remove it but it was put into ARMA II for a reason and that reason was to give movement weight. Maybe it doesn't accomplish it right, but it had a reason for implementation and my experiences in FPS since the early 90s tell me that reason was a good one even if the implementation wasn't perfect. As I stated, it isn't a PRIORITY, because it takes good players all of an afternoon to get used to it and basically ignore it after that. -

I think you mean it is not something that ~YOU~ can easy get used to. Others seem to have no issue with getting used to it. Think about that. YES! I get to use the "No true Scotsman" fallacy link! https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/no-true-scotsman Thank you... I've been waiting for some dumbass to claim something about how "true gamers" would or would not for months now. -

Nice Slippery Slope Fallacy... You will notice I stated the Devs are changing it. What I am attempting to put forth is that it isn't the priority some people are making it out to be because with a small amount of practice people can get used to it and then never even notice it is there anymore. How do they do this magical thing? They stop blaming the system (which actually isn't horrible) and learn to play. I don't like the 3rd person exploits, but I have learned to utilize them when on a third person server and don't demand that this is the highest priority because it is something that personally bugs me... I understand that is the way the game is and things like full character wipes and getting more zombies as well as proper zombie pathing and other code into the game is higher priority than something someone can learn to deal with in an afternoon of playing. -

But this is exactly how it works... as long as you are not outside the range of allowed speed. If green is slow and red is fast: >......|........|.< = no issue >......|..........<..| = issue -

1:1 input so when someone's mouse sensitivity is all they way up they can literally spin in place with very small movements of the mouse... AKA: Twitch shooting. While they lose a bit of accuracy people often have on the fly mouse sensitivity changes that allow them to spin 360 by moving 1" to one side OR when they click the Right Mouse to look down the sights it lowers sensitivity so they are more smooth. They will be eventually looking into changing it slightly if not removing it, however DayZ is not a Twitch game the the negative mouse acceleration actually works to give the guns and players weight. 1:1 doesn't. Since I prefer that I really don't mind it and quickly got used to it. The main issue is that there seems to be a subset of players that believes that all games should respond like some other FPS do instead of actually LEARNING TO PLAY THE GAME AS IT EXISTS. -
We also had shoes 1 year ago, but the SA shoes are different.

No, it in fact, does not. When you try to move it does... but it doesn't for me. The only logical conclusion is... -
Ehem... I play on 3PP servers. I would love to see 3PP go away. That is not deceptive. Because I play on 3PP servers I actually have experience with all the exploits. Because I also play on 1PP servers I also know just how the game plays with the removal of those exploits. I can, from there, make an intelligent decision based off of experience and say that 3PP servers are worse than 1PP because of said exploits and it should, at the very least, be corrected in a manner that removes those exploits. Why do I play on 3PP servers? Well, because when I want to play say... an Epoch Dayz:Mod server without self-bloodbag/1,000 vehicles/trader safe zones on Taviana I can find exactly 0 1PP servers, but I can find a 3PP server. They ran out of cake and my options between "Cake or Death" is "...or Death". So I play on 3PP servers. If I get a little less extreme and accept AI missions and more vehicles on Chernarus I can find maybe 3 1PP servers but the pings are rather high for all of them. So again my option is "...or Death". So what do I do? I play on 3PP servers and deal with it. Basically having the option means there IS no other option for many of us. Maybe it would be nice if the other side of the coin was excluded a tiny bit for once, or they fixed the exploits so I didn't HAVE to play in 3rd person constantly to not be at a huge disadvantage since I can't seem to NOT play on a 3PP server.

No, I bought a device that enhances the game. Prior to that I used the free look button to look around. Most FPS have the gun hardlocked to your viewing. A few allow you to free look and few more allow free look in some manner OTHER than a modifier key allowing you to look around using the mouse. ARMA is one of those that lets you look around with other input and will accept input from TrackIR and thus input from Occulus Rift once that takes off. This isn't to "counter act" anything in the mouse I was commenting on how you mentioned that a person turning would first turn their head to look in the direction they want to point in and then move their body to match. TrackIR lets you do just that in a fairly natural way. The movement of your body/gun remains exactly the same only your head is free to roam. I don't have an issue with the movement of the mouse and I think that is because I have acclimated myself to it. In other words I have learned to play the game. I have a little bit of aiming deadzone on, which smooths out movement a tiny bit for me, but not a lot. I'll have to play with it later one when I get home and see what I have things set to, if I have time tonight. Not sure if I will I have a lot to do after work tonight. -
Feel free to host one.

Damn it, and I thought I got the quotes moved out of there correctly and didn't... fixing and appologies. -
That is just it, it really isn't "fine". 3rd person creates horrible combats with very little strategy. If you don't care about PVP it also makes avoiding zombies stupidly simple in both the Mod and SA so it affect PVE as well. Removing those things that make this true but keeping 3rd person for the purposes of those who claim 1st person makes them ill(I believe about 20% of those claiming this) would make things "fine". People will flock to the easier mode of play... 3rd person is easy mode.

And? Your response to what is most likely NOT cheating... but even if it was who cares... it's an alpha game... Um, any way your response to possible cheaters and need to act all "bad ass" speaks volumes as to your maturity level and actual confidence or shall we say lack there of. It's a game, it gets frustrating, if it is too much, move on. Your rage is what a cheater would want, don't play their game. Ignore the little childish things and when they don't get the response they want they go away. See, it isn't any fun for them if there are not people such as yourself getting worked up to the point you threaten violence. -

So.... someone heard... Ca-click and ran over and shot one guy, heard, Ca-click again, shot the next guy, heard a double ca-click outside and sprayed them both with bullets? This proves they were cheating? While it seems suspicious it doesn't prove anything. You all jumped into a server, probably not loading at the exact same time but close enough someone could probably hear each one and line up shots while you were loading. Was it the Firehall that you spawned into by any chance? Maybe some other high traffic area where they may have actually been multiple people in a group who shot you? -
Did you notice what this thread was about. It wasn't strictly about removing 3rd person servers, it was asking what people's opinions are. One of those is that 3rd person should remain... IF the exploits it allows are removed or at least toned down. I prefer 1st person I find it immersive and more difficult than 3rd person and I am not totally opposed to difficult like it seems some people are, depending on what else it brings. I play on 3rd person servers in the Mod because they are more populated and there is a TON MORE of them so finding a low ping 1st person server running the mod and options I want otherwise is basically impossible much less finding one that has a decent population. Some people point at that as proving that 3rd person is popular and so must stay. I see it more like Walmart. After all the self-bloodbag/3rd person servers pushed a lot of the 1st person servers out of business, so to speak, there isn't an option for some of us to log into a 1st person server. Walmart is cheaper and 3rd person is easier, they appeal to the masses and both have forced some really bad habits/experiences. In many cases they have forced the competition for "consumers" out of the way so they are the only option left. Give that Walmart has some bad business practices that are bad for the communities they are in and 3rd person has exploits it sucks for those of us who like family run stores and exploit free servers. I will happily shop at Walmart when they pay their workers a living wage, stock quality items, and stop strong arming those who produce the products they sell. I will happily play on 3rd person servers when some of the more glaring exploits 3rd person offers are mitigated. Till then I'll have to suffer through 3rd person servers and the exploits.... at least I am not supporting a company that is actively bad for communities... or hope and pray for a low ping 1st person server that is neither empty nor full.

I did... I didn't come to the same conclusion. I use a TrackIR to move my head and find I wish other FPS would come to realize how nice that system is and support it. Do you have the mouse "dead space" turned on? If so that would add compound the issue because your first bit of motion will not move the mouse which prompts some to move the mouse faster and leads to them triggering the acceleration. I know I altered how much dead space I had on my mouse. Hmmmm... looks like my remote system isn't on for my home computer so I can't hop in there quick and take a peek at my settings. I'd play around a bit though and I bet you can find something comfortable if you try. -

mercules replied to 27 others's topic in General Discussion
The mouse doesn't move your head. The mouse moves your body and gun. Want to move your head quickly to the side? Buy a TrackIR. This is very true. I've been playing the Mod for over a year and the SA since it came out. I have NO ISSUE moving in DayZ unless I play some other FPS for a while and then start up DayZ without a real break. It is different but it takes all of 5 minutes for me to get the feeling back and start controlling my character correctly. This leads me to believe it is not an issue with the acceleration but USER ERROR. This game doesn't have to move differently, people just need to learn how to play. Use a high DPI setting on the mouse and whip it around and you end up with crappy movement in game. Use a lower DPI setting and move fluidly and your avatar moves fluidly. Bad players are bad players which are bad player who are bad players. A "good player" learns how to control their characters in game, if they suck they go, "Damn I suck. I guess I need to practice." . A "bad player" determines it isn't their fault and sights some flaw in the game that makes them suck as it obviously isn't their fault. -
Apparently you haven't found the magical "Lean" buttons yet? You really don't have to expose your whole head but you do have to expose about half of it and guess what, the other person has to expose their head to see you exposing yours. Unlike 3rd person where you both sit behind a rock/tree/corner and watch for the other person to lean out or leave cover and then pre-aim and pop up/out just long enough to shoot. 3rd person fights go like this. Side A sits in Cover. Side B sits in Cover. Which ever side gets impatient and moves first is most likely to die. With 1st person you can pop out of cover and lay down covering fire all around and on the other side's cover. They can risk looking out and getting hit to see if you moved or just stayed put, either way there is some merit to covering fire and movement tactics. In 3rd person there is no reason to ever fire unless you can shoot directly at a player. I found this true in the mod. 3rd person made it very simple to avoid zombies. 1st person made it more difficult to avoid Zombies. Now zombies are not a huge threat in the mod or SA... yet... but in either of them you can avoid zombies by using 3rd person to check for them around corners and behind walls and never agro them. 1st means you have to expose part of yourself to possible agro to see where that moaning zombie actually is so you can plan a route around them. Because 3rd person makes it dangerous to sit still, you never know when someone might be viewing you with their periscope, and makes avoiding zombies very easy you typically run through a town since speed is your best defense against 3rd person campers. It's amazing to see how often people project their own sins onto others.

Are you sure they didn't think about it and that influenced them to actually do it? :)

Well, it can be. To create an analogy. Say I offer you the choice between a mild shock and a heavier shock, obviously most people will want the mild shock even if a few will try for the heavier one and see what it is like. If we tie rewards to it like if you take a mild shock you get a candybar but if you take a heavy shock you get cash that is about the same amount as the candy bar. The cash is a slightly more rewarding experience since you can use it for anything while a candybar is a pretty nice reward a sort of instant gratification thing. There are people who would rather have the small shock and take the candybar and convince themselves it is just as good as cash rather than deal with the heavier shock. Where am I going with this? Well, several of the people I have convinced (read, told them I was switching my server to first pearson) to try first person reported to me that while they were uncomfortable and it makes the game less easy, they actually found the challenge and perspective to be more rewarding. Even so a lot of them went right back to 3rd person servers because... again... it was less painful. Many would play on 3rd most of the time and only join 1st person servers when they were looking for something in particular from the experience (meaning, "Not a candybar.") Heck, I play mostly on 3rd person servers because those are the easiest to find and my friends like that it is easier. So sometimes having two choices really means you only have one and the perception that there is two choices. Realistically, as far as the mod has been concerned, having 1st and 3rd person servers means you have 3rd person servers with one or two 1st person servers. People just take the easy route. I'm as guilty as the rest.

Port Forwarding in DAYZ as a player will improve desync ?
mercules replied to paradogz's topic in General Discussion
Well, technically they could have desync caused by their own personal network if their router went through some sort of convoluted routing table for every packet and it could be resolved by putting in a port forward rule that simply passed the packet on. Something like a Proxy Server that filtered everything by looking at every packet could cause a client to become desynced and be resolved by port forwarding. However, that being said the desync being described seems to be on the server end of things. Basically, unless you purposefully slowed down your own network for some reason, security being the most likely, port forwarding should do zilch to resolve this issue. -
You are correct but right now we are far over on the "Spawn too frequently" side of things. 2 hours to find something like an M4 does not seem unreasonable to me. It actually sounds like a game I want to play. There are plenty of games out there were you are geared up simply by spawning in, or in just a short period of time. Leave those of us who like a game where it takes 2 hours to find a gun the ONE game that is like that.
