People tell you your post is bad because its an alpha? read plz
mercules replied to Munchermanjz's topic in General Discussion
To be honest there are a few that need the "Tis an Alpha... L2P" answer. Like the 50 different threads on hunger and thirst during the first month of Alpha... a thread that still pops up occasionally. The game wasn't exactly broke, they were literally doing it wrong and then complaining about messages that were already slated to be fixed in the next patch. :) Thus my signature. -
Blood Slider... I'll have to check the SA but in the Mod I know there is a Blood Slider. Turn it up you get gallons. Turn it down you get oz.

so i had a blast so far but this is killing my fun
mercules replied to brumey's topic in General Discussion
I was not speaking of actions but of the probability that someone happened to be in a barracks and backed into a corner where they can cover the entrance, when they were "accidentally" disconnected. It strains basic logic to believe that even 1% of the time someone logging in under such perfect conditions was there "accidentally". If we assume that possibility is nearly non-existent then what is left? I was being far too fair to say 10% of them were not disconnecting on purpose. -
Why are you even asking? ALPHA. I imagine adding a variable to a knife so that it can open a can is much less code intensive than tracking down why the network bubble doesn't properly send the message to all clients that player X is now dead and needs to animate as such. If you don't like it, don't play the game. You were warned when purchasing it and every time you log in. Read the warning and take it to heart.

Is that like someone getting upset that someone else offered them help in a game that they don't think they need? Something like, "I don't need your help." and subtext of "You just hurt my feelings thinking I need your help." That is what this post is really about. You feeling patronized when someone offers you help. That is why you find it weird that someone would help them and why you state things the way you do. Someone offering you help makes you feel lesser and you can't handle it. Suck it up and grow up.

Instead could I have you maybe post how many of these theoretical "I was legitimately disconnected inside the barracks because of the game or my internet." people you know? Could we get dates and times it happened and maybe have the developers comb the logs and verify it? Oh, they are not going to do that? Really? Ah so neither of us can provide evidence that a given thing is happening? Okay... Good to know. It is interesting anecdotal evidence that every person I have watched run into a barrack or jail wasn't heavily geared to begin with but every one I have seen log into the game inside one was heavily geared to the point where one guy I killed had something like 10 M4 clips(nothing smaller than 30 rounds) and an ammo box just about full. Sadly there was another person who must have accidentally logged off there due to the game bugs (*wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge*) who logged in and got the best of me before I could enjoy having an abundance of ammo. Shot me while I was futzing with the M4 I had just picked off the corpse after dropping my Mosin. Actually, it is exactly how the world works. It's unfortunate, but it is. I was being fair even saying it was only 90%. I have never seen anyone "accidentally" logged out in a barracks personally among my 5 friends who play. I see how it could happen with the un-announced server restarts but then we would have to not log in for enough time for someone else to have come into the area and entered the place for us to log in while they are there. As we clear such areas before going into them it is unlikely for anyone to be within a 10 minute jog of the location and we are back into the game in less than that. I could see where a server could crash and that person could log into a different server with a person there... but most people spend less than 5 minutes in such dangerous areas and so the chances of the server going down and not coming back up while they are in that area during that brief period of time.... Let us just say that it strains credulity to believe that people log out INSIDE a barracks "On accident". The probability is so low that the few times a person would be wrong in calling them a server hopper is justifiable. -

mercules replied to brumey's topic in General Discussion
No, it's lag. Good old, familiar lag. 90% or more(I'd wager it being closer to 98%) of the disconnects in those high loot spawn areas are not unintentional. Ergo I feel reasonably comfortable "labeling" someone logging in at those locations as a server hopper or combat logger. No one purposefully logs out in those areas with "good intentions" and the random disconnects are not very common except on servers having issues. While it is not fair to label everyone that way, the chance of it being true is rather high so arguing against it is a bit silly. -
Character Died from 5ft drop (estimate)

Yes, because falling down can lead to death. Tripping can lead to death. Falling from 5 feet can lead to death. I'm talking about real life and not any games right now. -
In-game sound needs to be re-worked
mercules replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Which is exactly what surround sound is for. It doesn't work properly yet in the SA but works okay in the mod. You don't need visual cues once they get around to fixing up the network bubble and sound issues. -
I seem to have no issues on servers with a ping <60 Servers with a ping >70 on the other hand seem to find me getting hit a lot by zombies and missing them more.

Character Died from 5ft drop (estimate)
mercules replied to TiptonSamurai's topic in General Discussion
Did you know that people walking along the ground in real life sometimes fall over, hit their heads, and die traveling less than 6 feet to the ground? Yes, it is most likely a bug but anyone who has played DayZ in the past knows you don't mess around with changes in elevation because you can fall down and die. Most of us are extremely careful around ladders. You should have seen the bugs in the mod. -
Um.... The head does move first. Unlike those other games there is separate head movement in DayZ:SA as in you can actually look around. The mouse controls where your gun is pointing. Other inputs can be used to control the head. The game is remarkably realistic when you throw something into the mix like a TrackIR or one of the programs that reads your body and head movements with a webcam and translates them into similar input for controlling the game.

Well, hopefully you are going to rent/host a server near where you hook into the internet which means you will know there is at least one server out there you can connect to with a low ping. Not much but it is worth something. I've considered renting for that myself. You can also have it be Hardcore or Normal so you know one that fits what you want is nearby. I am certain later there will be other options but right now they want everything to remain more or less standard so that it is easier to track bugs.
-
Apparently they don't since many people are just fine with renting a server, Paying for it, and allowing all of us to connect to it. If you or others don't want to pay for a server... then don't? I understand it is a really simple concept and therefore likely overlooked as a solution.

In the wrong order... Intel CPU and AMD GPU works fine for both myself and a friend of mine.

I thought you said this was sad?

Any piece of clothing you associate with bandits?
mercules replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
And here we show a perfect example of leaping to conclusions. Lets start with the first one. Hate to tell you this, but scopes are used to allow you to shoot targets accuractely from further away, no matter what that target may be. As DayZ:SA doesn't have binoculars in yet scopes also allow people to scan an area before moving into it. So you can't assume someone has the intent to shoot other players from a scope alone. When I do play with a group I tend to be the "overwatch" and using a scope not only lets me deal with threats that are all the way over where my team is, but also spot and call out possible threats for me team ahead of time. As for camoflage and military gear. Sorry... Ballistic helmets protect your head. I would be stupid to run across one and decide that I wouldn't want the extra protection. Gas Masks have almost no use right now, but I shall assume that they, like the smaller white face masks, might make you less likely to catch an infection from someone else who is infected. Later they will add in chemical agents you won't want to breath in. So the gasmask is smart if you find one. Camoflage is something for both predator and prey. You don't think zebra are stripped because they are going to pounce on other zebra, but that is why tigers have stripes. I wear camouflage to blend in, not so I can snipe others, but so that they hopefully have a harder time spotting me and snipping me. Then again when I do end up in a combat it is nice to be able to change position and not have them spot you immediately because you have on a bright orange raincoat with a pink hat. Now, the military UK vest HOLD MORE GEAR. In a game or world where a can of beans can be the difference between your character dying or not it might be a good idea to have room to carry as many as you can. While I like some of the realism in the game I also think we need some non-military alternatives that carry as much as the military gear if people are going to assume you are unfriendly based on the fact you are carrying something that gives you more storage. How stupid is someone to go, "Oh he decided he wanted to be able to carry 2 more water bottles, a box of matches, a can opener and some canned food by picking up a vest. That means he kills people." <_< -
Hmmmm... Last time I sat around and tried to talk to my killers. I had a good deal of food, soda, and water bottles as well as an ammo box full of ammo but not a single gun. Yeah, nothing but ammo at any of the military spawns. I could hear them chowing down on my gathered food, drinking the soda, and reloading their guns as well as unwrapping bullets. I was like: "Well, that was 4 cans, you should have 2 cans of soda left." "Don't forget to brush after that meal." "At least there was more than one of you. I was pretty sure I wasn't giving you a shot, but if there was a second guy, that explains how I died." "You do know where the "push-to-talk" key is, right?" "Not going to respond at all?" "Oh, the syringe has anti-biotic in it, I swear it isn't disinfectant. Then again would you trust the word of someone you just killed?" "La-la-la-la-Lollipop.... do you remember Bert and Ernie? Wait... are you from the U.S.? Maybe you haven't said anything because you don't speak English, then again it would be... what? 4 AM in Europe right now? So... SE Asia? Helloooooooo?"

If you can, try dying to some random glitch or what should be an easy to kill zombie that got a lucky knock out shot after sneaking up to you in a very out of the way place so there is a very good chance your body will remain unfound. If you have really solid gear at the time it seems the game spawns you about as physical far away as it possibly can. It also seems as if it monitors your progress and reboots the server as soon as you get within about 200m of your body.

How to get a long range scope now that tent spawns have been removed??
mercules replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
You don't have a "sniper" rifle. You have a very old(WWII) infantry rifle. Putting a scope on it that allows for long range shots makes it into something approaching a "sniper rifle". -

Ten hours is not a long time. If it is... As I said... "Other Games". -
I think some people need to realize that a really nice scope is not, as they state, "ESSENTIAL". I dont' think they realize the concept behind a game where you probably won't always have what you actually do need to survive, much less want to have. You don't need a Long Range Scope, you want a Long Range Scope. You need... Food, Water, way to kill zombies and players who threaten you. You sound like you have those and now are looking for BETTER ways to do it. Those are no longer needs, but wants. Yes, they will increase your odds of surviving. A Long Range Scope is an excellent force multiplier on a Mosin and allows you to shoot people from so far away they can't easily shoot you back, but... it still isn't "ESSENTIAL". See, that is your first step to actually enjoying this game, understanding that the things you find are what you work with. Forcing yourself to find the things you think you need will result in stress or ending up in bad situations causing you to die and thus negating the purpose of doing that because now you don't have a gun, much less the scope for it.

How to get a long range scope now that tent spawns have been removed??
mercules replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
Gambler's Fallacy is a belief that previous results can influence further results in a random situation. Every spawn point you check has X.XX% chance of that scope showing up if it is in the loot table for that point. It is in the loot table for a lot of spawn points with very low odds. That means in your limited sample of even a 1000+ spawn points you might never see one... ever. Then it is possible that this game is not one you would prefer. I can point out several other games that let you start with a nice scope but for some reason that upsets those I point this out to. -
I am not certain how you are so unlucky to spawn in only three spots. Spots I have spawned: Kamenka Komorova Balota Cherongorsk Prigorodki Elecktrozavdosk Three Valleys Solnichniy Novy Sobor Gorka
