Did the mean man make you read extra words? Can you show me which ones they were on this doll?

Are you good at finding players from gun sounds?
mercules replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Rework? That would imply they had even started working on it yet.... they haven't. They hired a sound design person and eventually the place holder sounds we have will change as will the system. Need I say, "Alpha"? -
You mean design and balance in a game that is still missing most of it's loot and systems because it is still very early into Alpha? Yeah... little early for the discussion and on top of it there is something going on with loot spawns in general that IS a bug that is compounding the issue. In addition there are some locations that simply have not had ANY loot spawns added in yet because... wait for it... it's an ALPHA. So yeah you can skip some houses because they are not down. You can skip others because the loot tables are not done. You can skip yet more because there is a lack of items to put into the loot tables that would make sense to scatter into other buildings. It's fine to "mention it" but lets not act like it is something the Devs need to address immediately when time will come when it will work itself out a lot better. Eventually there WILL be stuff in those houses that is worth at least checking for. Right now there is a (very) small chance of weapons and such dropping in locations other than barracks, but human nature being what it is some people will simply decide the odds are not enough to warrant even checking. Also it isn't as bad as the OP makes it out to be. In Dolina, which is a small town, there are about 6 spawn points where a possible gun can spawn including several spots for Mosins and 2 where an M4 might spawn.

Is it paining you? Look, they are pointing out something others were not aware of and doing so in a manner that is "In Character" isn't hurting anyone and actually makes it a bit more enjoyable to read.

Actually, they are game breaking features. It's really hard to test a gun when you can never find one because the place is swept clean by server hoppers. It's really hard to get feedback on how the combat system handles when people log out the moment they are bleeding. They ARE working on zombie pathing. It's one of their priorities but this was probably what happened. They had a meeting to decide what would be worked on in that "Sprint". Zombie pathing is an ongoing thing but Server Hopping was brought up and it was determined it would take one sprint to fix that issue but multiple sprints to resolve one of the numerous issues with zombies. So server hopping was put into that sprint as something to be completed. For all we know some little component of Zombie pathing was ALSO in that sprint but was not put into the patch because it relies on something not in that sprint before it will function. So work was done on Zombies but there is no change seen by end users. That is why it is rather silly to complain about what is in each patch and what you think SHOULD have been there instead. Zombie pathing is not a single one month task. There are probably multiple systems involved in something that complex and over the next few months they will be constantly working on them but we on this side will not see any of these changes until it all comes together.

It doesn't. I've played the mod for years and people still server hop in the Mod and the Mod has respawning loot. Nice theory but proven false by the Mod.

Lets discuss what is 'Cheating' and what isn't
mercules replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Sorry, but sliding Gamma up IS cheating. That being said it is a very minor cheat and most players do it. However, it is using something against the intent of the development of the game. If they wanted the night to be lighter, they would have might nighttime lighter. So, if we have to go by a strict definition, it is cheating. Third party VOIP is used by the developers of the game so that becomes a more grey area. -
now it would be perfect if the fan didn't run 10 billion rpm
mercules replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
Sorry... While macs are not evil boogey men, I would never play a FPS game that requires speed and accuracy on a laptop unless it was top of the line brand new. Even then I could have bought a LOT better for gaming desktop for half the price. Trying to play on a Macbook Pro (Hopefully using Bootcamp to be in Windows and not trying to use Parallels) sounds like it might not be all that ideal. -
Lets discuss what is 'Cheating' and what isn't
mercules replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Well, there are systems that don't let you speak without it coming through in Direct Chat in the game. So if you talk on your radio it broadcasts to the channel you are on but also says it out loud locally. TS/Mumble obviously bypass these in game systems. There is a whisper mode in most of those so you can quietly speak in your local and hope it comes through right on the radio but it reduces the radio volume as well so.... -
Lets discuss what is 'Cheating' and what isn't
mercules replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Ehem... not all of us who use it defend it to the death. What we point out is that it is UNENFORCABLE to disallow it. Even with ingame systems there is no way to prevent third party communication from being used. I can run skype/Mumble/TS on my tablet and use that with my headphones and no software on my computer will every pick it up so there is no way you can enforce the "no TeamSpeak" system. Look at the community playing who server hop for items and to ghost in behind someone. There is no way they won't abuse third party communication if the rest of us don't. That being said when in a community that is self enforcing and closed having things like the ACRE system for communication is excellent and fun. What is cheating. I would say it runs hand in hand with "Exploits". Now, exploits are using something in the game in a manner not intended by the game designers. What does that mean? Well, Gamma slider was intended to help you set your graphics to a comfortable viewing level. It was not intended to make nights less dark. So is sliding Gamma all the way up cheating? Yes. The Hive was not intended for people to farm loot, it was so that you could switch to another server if the one you wanted to log into was full or down or something else was going on. It was not intended for people to log out in one spot on one server near loot so they could quickly grab that loot on several other servers or to log out, move around someone, then log back into the first server and shoot them. So both Server Hopping and Ghosting are cheating. Same thing with modifying your files so the game doesn't draw certain textures fully and gives you a "Wallhack". Same with spawning in items. -
Might have been unconscious and if he logs out then he dies, but you also don't get his gear because the body vanishes.

To all of those who yell ALPHA at any sort of suggestion
mercules replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Because maybe dropping an item suddenly is not more important than say... Zombies phasing through the walls? BTW, it's an Alpha so Zombies phasing through the walls is still going to happen till they get time to get them straightened out. -
To all of those who yell ALPHA at any sort of suggestion
mercules replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
If you got, "It's an Alpha." in your post then it was likely because your idea was something to do with "Polish" and not a core mechanic and so would typically be focussed on later, or you mentioned a bug, likely one that has been mentioned 20 times already. If it wasn't then it probably sounded like it actually was. "The sounds need to be worked on." Yes they do, it is still an Alpha. Sound is polish. "My FPS have dropped after the last patch. The game is UNPLAYABLE!" Yep, Alpha, bug report it and hopefully they will have a patch out soon. -
Is there going to be a feature to tagg people as friendly?

I think you need to read the rules again. -
In-game sound needs to be re-worked
mercules replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
So we shouldn't be hearing birds singing, random thumps of tree branches falling, trees groaning, fences rattling from wind, or other background noises? You have been outside on a quiet day, right? Yes, it would be very nice if doors made sound. -
Need Fixing: Axe swinging, Filling Canteens, Disappearing loot
mercules replied to Ultra7's topic in General Discussion
1. Press space and lower the axe. It is harder to use while raised up and works much better while lowered. 2. Um... What? Are you maybe slipping so that you are no longer aiming at the well? Works okay. 3. It was probably still there, but under the floor. Please Bug Report it so they can hopefully fix that building. 4. Not sure... I don't bother purifying water right now. Infection chance is either nil or low from drinking water right now. 5. Did you know that people trip in real life, fall, and die? From like 0 feet off the ground. -

mercules replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Hmmmm.. Let us check the forum rules... So you probably shouldn't be chuckling about breaking the rules so flagrantly. Then it might be time to learn to play and develop situational awareness as well as fire control so you don't cause friendly fire. -

I've gotten a LOT better lately with my wardrobe. Long ago it used to be pretty subdued. In fact I remember a black and grey sweater I had. It had curved stripes in chunks of three that ran into the sides of other stripes. Once it was old and ratty I used it as camo for paintball when it was overcast or dusk and it worked very well for that. My current wardrobe is a bit less camo friendly but I still avoid extremely flashy or bright things, most of what I wear would blend in with the countryside I live in, including the reds which are more of an Autumn leaf color.

I play in a group and I play in a group in DayZ: Mod where EVERYONE looks exactly the same all the time. You don't have nice things like separate shirts, hats, jackets, pants, helmets, and such. What is even better is that if you have the default survivor skin it doesn't even look the same between different people logged in. So to me player 3 looks like he has a white shirt on. To player 2 he looks like he has a dark shirt on. I see player 2 as having the same white shirt player 3 has and both player 2 and I look the same to player three. So in that you can't even cry out, "The guy is on the other side of the building in a white shirt." Oddly enough the technique above of calling out location and such works. It's not ideal, but it works. In a system where I can look slightly different it works even better. "I have a yellow bandana and a green mountain pack." "Oh! You have a guy circling around that building in all camo with a gasmask!" I never understood the mentality of coming to a forum and posting a question without looking to see if it has already been answered or if their is a topic already made to comment on. I mean you took the time to come to the forum, register, and post. Why not just hit Search and maybe help yourself even faster instead of starting yet ANOTHER topic on the same question then waiting for a reply and possibly getting, "Did you bother to read the other ten threads on this topic from today?" as your reply? "Hi... I'm too lazy to bother looking for myself. Hey wait... why are guys upset with me?" -
Um... No one PLANS on being shot at. Because of that I wear camouflage and try not to be seen even though I don't shoot at people who are no threat to me. By not being seen by them they are that much LESS of a threat to me.

You would think that to be true, wouldn't you. Unfortunately there are things in video games that are not directly related to graphics. Some games like DayZ and Mechwarrior:Online use a large amount of the CPU and not having a solid CPU or having slow bus speeds will cause a drop in FPS that are rendered. The GPU never gets stressed. So if the game makes the CPU use 100% of it's resources but only touches 50% of a single GPU's resources what makes you think adding a second GPU to the mix will make things run faster? That is what he was talking about. It's unlikely DayZ is stressing out a single decent GPU so offloading some of the work to a second one does nothing to increase performance. It's like a water pipe. It can be 8 inches wide at both ends but if it is only 1/4" wide in the middle of the two you won't get enough flow to use those 8".

Who else wants the music to be added into game?
mercules replied to over9000nukez's topic in General Discussion
Music? Oh... that thing I turn off in every single game the moment it is installed? Yeah... waste time on that. -
You do have a problem. YOU. It's not the servers. Look, I tried really hard to be nice to you despite you coming across with a ton of attitude but if you don't want help and don't want to look into YOUR issue then enjoy your life and don't play the game. Fact: You have a problem. Fact: doesn't seem to be happening to most people. I can come up with a conclusion then that it is either your system, your game, or whatever is between you and the servers... like maybe an ocean or two. It's possible you live in the place furthest from where any DayZ:SA server is located that still gets highspeed internet. In which case it STILL isn't BI's fault no one decided to rent out a server near you.
