Need we state, "Alpha"? You are not supposed to be able to sprint forever and probably won't be able to in the end. In addition I am certain they will work on tweaking how much slope decreases your speed. I'm pretty sure there are other priorities right now. The Mod handled it slightly better so I assume part of it is the changes in animations from ARMA:II to DayZ:SA. I'd bug report it and move on since a 3% slope obviously isn't supposed to bring you to a crawl... unless you consider jogging and not sprinting a crawl that is.

I think part of the issue is that loot IS spawning in those locations. Occasionally you will spot a pair of wellingtons where just the top edge is showing above the floor. I think when they fixed the "hovering" loot they also moved some of it under everything else. So if they look at a log file it shows Loot has spawned in all those point but if you go to the actual spot in game the item is well under the floor and you will never be able to access it.

They aren't. DayZ: Origins makes it so body shots do very little damage and headshots do enough to drop them in 1 or 2 shots. So in Origins we just snipe all the zombies from a good location and then move in. These are infected, not dead bodies. Zombies being dead is a nonsensical thing. "Real" zombies from Vodoo were not dead. The most likely realistic "Zombie" apocalypse is Viral in nature and gives infected people zombie like reactions and qualities.

100man servers... my biggest fear has been realised.
mercules replied to Cenobyte's topic in General Discussion
That and this group could lay down a lot of fire at a sniper. Once the first couple drop they will have some idea where the sniper is shooting from and will be able to get angle on him so he won't have cover. -
Find a different game then. Sorry, but if you can't handle the consequences of playing then don't play. How hard is that? If you can just respawn from breaking a leg then breaking a leg loses most of it's consequences. It's like in the Mod when they bumped up infection and then lowered Antibiotic spawns. People started to just suicide once infected. They would tuck their items in a tent or die near a place they could get back to but hidden and off themselves. It was stupid. Crawl around and look for a stick. In the meantime maybe you'll spot a zombie.

In-game sound needs to be re-worked
mercules replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
You get the feeling that you hearing someone drinking a soda somewhere very far away from you is intended? "Ghost Sounds" have been reported multiple times in the Bugs area. -
Loot farming server owners, and why the server browser is to blame
mercules replied to todd10k's topic in General Discussion
...and that is the problem with "framing" servers. Low risk and high reward. Why do we care? Because then these people decked out in Pristine gear hop onto some OTHER server and shoot at you while you are trying to survive and gear up where you actually have to worry about other players. -
Some thoughts on the game after 100 hours
mercules replied to compforce's topic in General Discussion
I hate Zombies Spawns. It's an issue with the Mod. People at that point no longer kill zombies. Why waste valuable bullets or ruin your weapon when you know in about 10 minutes 20 more Zombies will spawn. At that point you just avoid them, run and loot, and lose them in the brush. I LOVE the fact that I can clear an area and know that for a while it will be clear of zombies. Zombies spawns also inform "campers" that someone is in the town. It would be fine if the server checked and respawned zombies that were killed say... 20 minutes after they died. -

Oh, you mean the BUGS... yeah.... Here is the Alpha card... it's like a Trump Card and I am playing it. -
Neutral safe zones that physically prevent combat
mercules replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
You realize this game is really close to CastleWolfenstein? I mean you have a gun you shoot things. Sometimes you lose health. :P I can't imagine why a poorly made CLONE of the DayZ:Mod might have anything in common with the DayZ:SA... can you? BTW, it is the differences that makes WarZ a mockery and poor game. -
Neutral safe zones that physically prevent combat
mercules replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
Ehem.... EPOCH DOESN'T HAVE SAFE ZONES! Now some server admins have added safe zones tot heir Epoch servers, but MOST don't have safe zones. Some of the craziest times I've seen in Epoch are when someone decides to raid a Trader area. Had a plane fly over head while a friend I were at Klen. We were already interacting (non-violently I might add) with two other strangers, one of us keeping a weapon ready on them whenever they approached while the other carefully traded. Plane went over and everyone got a bit nervous and finished up what they were doing. It kept circling and my friend and I broke for cover just as a chopper came in and started dropping for a landing. One guy parachuted out and after landing opened fire. My friend and I offered a bit of covering fire for the other two who were at least neutral and then slipped away as the bandits killed one guy and looted him. It was AWESOME! -
hypocrite loot farmers, why do you whine about "hoppers"
mercules replied to mssing's topic in General Discussion
He doesn't know the definition of "say". He doesn't seem to understand that one definition is to speak but "say" also means to "Express with words" which is exactly what you are doing when you post to a forum. In other words the OP is an ignorant troll. -
How come the NW airfield is just about the safest place on the map atm?
mercules replied to naraga's topic in General Discussion
Well, it used to be a death trap. Of course now that you have stated it is fairly safe... I fully expect it to become a deathtrap again. :) -
There is no such thing as "End Game".
-
Yes and no. If implemented like in Epoch where you can mostly secure one, it can still be stolen or shot, then yes vehicles will solve the issue. If implemented like in Vanilla Mod then someone will simply find all the vehicles and drive them all to the same remote corner of the map and you will have to go find them any time you want to travel so they might as well NOT be on the map anyway.
-
If I wasn't busy trying to sneak around and gather up all the supplies needed to construct some sort of base in DayZ: Epoch I might be more inclined to hop on more often, see if I could find you on a server with a mutually low ping. Thing is that in SA If I move from where I am then when my friends log in and want to play we spend the entire time trying to join up. Okay, maybe not the whole time... we get joined up, decide we are going to go to X, start running, and then my one friend needs to log off. So when I log in I tend to run to the nearby town, loot it, and log off in the location my friends are at. There needs to be more to do in SA... I know... Patience.

Are you good at finding players from gun sounds?
mercules replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Hmmmm.. then that came across different than intended. I was pointing out to others they haven't even touched sounds yet so no reason to get uptight about the sounds. AKA, ALPHA. :) Sounds are all placeholder and don't work properly yet. I assume it is because of the network bubble, still ALPHA. I assume the sound guy will have something to do over the next year... ALPHA. :) -
New Experimental: Brutal FPS improvement for me
mercules replied to Sloddor's topic in General Discussion
Maybe when you hit a town the demand goes over your two cards and so it ends up farmed out to something else? Maybe the CPU? That is odd though. -
New Experimental: Brutal FPS improvement for me
mercules replied to Sloddor's topic in General Discussion
Short answer, RTFM. Long answer, "It is going to depend on your motherboard, CPU, and several other things and doing it wrong can roast your CPU so there is no real way we can explain it to you." Also known as, "Do you have a tech geek for a friend? If so does he like pizza and beer?" -
New Experimental: Brutal FPS improvement for me
mercules replied to Sloddor's topic in General Discussion
I've found with this engine that it tends to be more intensive on CPU than GPU so I'm not sure that SLI will make any difference. I'd run something in the background that logs GPU usage and if it isn't using up significant GPU resources... well... SLI won't matter. Then again this is exactly why I bought one really good(at the time) GPU instead of two moderate ones I could link up. -
Isn't this a bit like beating your spouse in public to raise awareness of Domestic Abuse?

"Killer rocks" - we need to have a talk.
mercules replied to thelonelyone's topic in General Discussion
Glad you have a sense of humor about this... It is, after all, an Alpha. :) -
What you described was entirely false. People who enjoy Hardcore servers do not play in 1PP while on Regular servers. We use 3PP just like everyone else. The difference is we feel the need to shower afterwards and just can't feel good about shooting someone as soon as they are facing away because our magical third eye let us observe them when they had no way to ever see us.
-
They could have called it "Veteran" like the mod but people would have an issue with that as well. When you went from Regular setting to Veteran on specific thing was turned off by default, 3rd Person View. Expert turned still more off. I assume people having an issue with it being called "Hardcore" would have an issue with it being called "Expert" as well. I assume they wanted to move away from the same naming as the Mod/ARMA and so chose Hardcore.

How many Women play this game and what do you think about it?
mercules replied to PsyStormZ's topic in General Discussion
Ehem, everyone needs to be treated with respect... or at least an equal amount of it. A lot of the women I know would dislike you just as much as the slobbering teenager trying to ask them out. You see the key words there are, "...treat woman differently...". It doesn't matter if you treat them better or worse than you would treat anyone else, just that you treat them better or worse because of their gender. It's still sexism. I know where you are coming from but I have had it pointed out several times(till I got it).
