Neutral safe zones that physically prevent combat
mercules replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
Welcome to DayZ. There are friendlies out there, we exist. Keep trying. I have the opposite results, about half the people I run into are Wary but not openly hostile. The other half are either silent or smack talk. I assure you. Safe Zones do not lead to more friendly encounters. I've played on Epoch servers with Safe Zones. They don't matter, what matters are the players. with or without safe zones it is the players in the end that make up friendly or non-friendly. Safe zones don't really even encourage friendly, at least not in my experiences. -

Sorry... but stop projecting your OWN excuses for shooting people that make you feel less guilty about it on everyone else and except the fact that other players can and often will be friendly. Accept that you are an ass for shooting them and not even BOTHERING to try and be friendly. You don't need the safe zone, you can control your own trigger finger. I know it means opening up and taking a risk and doing that has lead to emotional pain in the past, but that is how we grow and become better people. We learn there are bad people out there and still take the risk. Since it isn't ACTUALLY killing you, it's safe to take this risk. -

And? So you are saying there are locations that are decidedly unfriendly. That implies there are locations where people are less hostile? Like those places encountered in the video? Yet you conclude that we need a location that won't allow weapons because people are unfriendly? How many times do I have to show you that friendly encounters ARE POSSIBLE without safe zones? Your whole premise is that you can't have friendly encounters without them. Really? Because I just showed you a BUNCH of friendly encoutners and your responce is, "Yeah.. well.. not if you are... um... in this area where really good loot spawns and people camp and snipe and KOS... Not in THAT area so that negates ANY freindly encounters... anywhere... No one has them because of this exception." -

Let me put this nicely. If you watch the video where he is being an ass to people he gets unfriendly responses a lot more than any of the other videos. You seem to be under the impression very few people are friendly and I assume it is your experiences leading you to that conclusion. So..... If more people are friendly when he is friendly and less when he is a jerk... why are you having so many unfriendly responses? What are YOU putting out into the world and is it coming back to you? Because I too have run into about an equal amount of friendly and unfriendly in DayZ. -

The logic fail is in providing false information to begin with. Won't matter if your argument is logical IF your supporting statements are false. 90% of the players are not in fact Unfriendly. -

Before making such statements one should maybe watch his other videos? I linked the one with better gear in it. In case you wanted the short version... he still got a positive number in the end. People were not AS friendly but about half were still friendly. -

Or... maybe he is pointing out what DayZ has historically been and is likely to be in the future and you are telling him he is full of crap? -

Still missing the point that I made about how without Safe Zones plenty of servers in the Mod had friendly communities with positive social interactions? Still ignoring the Social interactions experiment? Mobo on Youtube is doing it. You will find that about half the players are friendly except during the "Obnoxious" experiment. Even then a few people were friendly with him. -
Seriously? "Hi, when I am at a disadvantage I just give up and cheat." :(

Hardcore or Normal? What gun did it sound like? What is the terrain? Which location of the map? What gear do I have? My normal reaction is to get out of that area. Why? because obviously they can see me and know where I am. So my best bet is to get away and into a thick set of trees/bushes/cluster of buildings so I can break their line of site and then either keep on going, or circle around and hope I see them before they see me.

I do? I think you are rather mistaken. Upon hopping into DayZ:SA the first time all of my friends and I utilized Rog as our rallying point. We continue to utilize castles for this purpose. You see... Rog is near the coast and easy for us to find because in the Mod we had tents hidden in the woods in various locations around Rog. We used Rog to gather up tents/food/drink and such as well as re-gear if we died and didn't have spares in our tents. It is incredibly easy for us to find because we spent so much time in the area. Devil's Castle we also rallied at because of the helicopter spawns in the Mod so when we are in the North we use that as a rally point. With all the stuff going into the North and most people spawning South and East we are again using it as a good location to meet up. Zub is a run my friend likes to use when spawning near Electro/Cherno. He gets the hell away from them and heads North then he swings around towards Zub because it makes a good landmark and he knows the angle to take from there to hit Green Mountain. Near Zub is one of the Red Brick buildings that spawns shotguns and Mosins. -
Melee weapon player damage isn't right.

Did you have the weapon "raised" and so you were missing on most of your swings, or lowered where it can actually swing the Axe well? -

What do you mean unused? :) Far off the beaten path is where I tend to be, especially if there is something like a castle where I can get a good view of the land and maybe pick up a tin or two of food. -
Server admin restart after getting killed
mercules replied to dat_moosey's topic in General Discussion
Report and move on. Unlikely they can do much since it isn't EXPRESSLY forbidden to restart your server, but report it none-the-less. -
Just had a sour death. This game can make you feel really bad sometimes!

As a PC gamer I learned long ago that all games play differently and the controls are often different. I learned that I would have to get used to each game. What did you learn? -
This logout system seriously needs to be deleted
mercules replied to dokibaxxi's topic in General Discussion
Uh huh... this happens about half the time you say. The server just kicks you for no apparently reason and/or you have an authentication timeout. Have you looked at your internet connection? Because it sounds like a personal problem to me, not an issue with the game. -

This is probably the worst argument I see made over and over again in games. "If you don't like instant health packs "YOU" don't have to use them." Yeah, if they are in the game and everyone else is using them to increase they effective life then yeah, everyone needs to use them. Just having the "safe zone" in the game means I have to avoid the area or "Use It". It affects everyone's game, even those not actively using it. If it ends up being used by a clan so they can have a few "mule" characters that hold gear for them that simply sit in the zone safe so they can log one in and grab ammo and supplies when needed I might not be directly using it, but I am forced to have it in my game and deal with it. -
Actually... Bennet is absolutely correct. 800 meters is the longest, "Effective" range of the DMR. You can actually hit people beyond that if you are skilled.

I can tell you guys from experience in playing in "Safe Zones" on servers that have them in the DayZ:Mod that they don't do what you think they would do. Rarely do you see the benefits you guys speak of. Player interaction in Safe Zones are basically eyeing each other warily and running like crazy as you leave/enter the zone so you don't get shot on the edge. People harass you knowing you can't do anything to them. I've had them literally have two players stand in the only entryway into or out of a safe zone and prevent anyone from leaving, while one of them "Rick Rolled" us in Direct. I've had pre-teen voiced players beg and try and steal things from vehicles and packs. "C'mon can't you give me a gun? I won't shoot you with it. Please? I just spawned and I couldn't find one." One of them had the balls to try and trade us something he had just stolen from a friend that he didn't know was with us for a gun. I think it was an ammo belt. Safe Zones do NOT change the nature of the game, players do. -

No, "Not getting it." is not the same as "Getting it but disagreeing with you." We "Get it". No it doesn't. I play on several servers in the Mod and you get to know the regulars on those servers. You find out quickly who you can trust and who you can't and many of us not only don't shoot on sight but even help each other out on a regular basis. I know... it totally boggles the mind that anyone would do anything for anyone else. Yet it still happens, constantly. Do I need to point you to the "Friendly?" thread where a guy is experimenting with peoples reactions in DayZ. So far it's been close to 50/50 but more friendly than not friendly encounters. Your premise is wrong. Sorry... Greyout is a real thing. I can't believe you would put colorful graphics over actual gameplay. It does several things. 1. informs you of damage in a realistic manner. 2. degrades your vision giving you an instant penalty for being near death. I love it because I hate games where I have a little health bar that I get to watch. As was stated in the other threads, if you are spending the majority of your time grey... you are playing the game rather poorly. Supposition with no evidence to back your claim. This is what you think would happen but then again you think friendly encounters don't ever happen in DayZ:SA or the Mod when they do. I have evidence and personal experience that they do in fact happen. -

mercules replied to Hagon94's topic in General Discussion
They will be changing it some. It sounds like it won't every be 1:1 but will be changed some. However, a good player learns how the controls on the game function, practices with them, and uses them well. I think the main issue is many people don't have a whole lot of practice with it in a combat situation and so overreact just like you did. Having played the Mod for over a year with the same Mouse Accelleration I am used to it and don't tend to mash it up. That isn't always true though, I do on occasion get adrenaline pumped and make mistakes and sometimes miss, but for the most part I do okay. -
Ehem... needs to be in the threads for the MOD. ;)
