Is there a database, list of items in game, current SA map?
mercules replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
So rather than type in: and then: It was easier for you to come to the forum and type up two paragraphs asking for help? Look, we aren't giving you a fish here, we are teaching you to fish. Think of it that way. -
No it doesn't. You see... there are a few issues you are overlooking: 1. Zombies don't use 3rd person. As the zombie pathing gets put in and there number goes up to the point they actually become a reasonable threat you will have an advantage on them in 3PP that 1PP view won't have. 2. Players do engage. The 3PP will not always work for you. You see, to make best use of it you really have to camp. I mean it can be used while moving around to some to check but the way to get the best results from it is to be in a location where you can easily see all around with 3PP but you can't be easily seen, which means not moving. Which means you have to gear up. That is the only dangerous time is while you are moving about to gear up and that is when you run into other players doing the same and when you end up with engagements where you both end up using periscopes to watch the other person and shoot them when they leave cover. Except on 1PP there is no point where you can get a "cheap easy kill". See, that is the difference. 3PP servers are hard... until they are not. For one thing your hardness totally depends on the number of players as you have eliminated bumbling into zombies you didn't know were around the corner. You can spot them easily so your ONLY threat is another player. Now, since, as you put it, if they see you first then there probably isn't an engagement your main threat is geared up players using the 3PP trick while you are unable to do the same. Well, why can't you do it? Probably because you are still moving about gathering gear and 3PP tricks work best from static positions. So really you are in the most danger while gearing up. Once geared up you can sit in a nice camping spot and you are fairly safe and sound because NO ONE ELSE can use the trick you are using. There are places where the trick only works one way. Which means once you have a gun and get into those locations the game just hit easy mode. Now with the Hive it's really easy to hop to an empty server where there are little to no players(remember, only threat in 3PP) gear up, move to a 3PP camp spot, then hop onto a busy server. I'm not saying you do this, but I am certain others do. Not really... when I play the mod I mostly play on 3PP servers because that is what my friends playing the mod but not SA like to play in. They just simply find it easier, their words. I agree. It's easier to fly helicopters, kill zombies, spot people. Playing the SA before the hardcore servers I found I could simply use 3PP to avoid other players. Since I had experience from the Mod it was simple to slip into a building, close the door, watch the other players and slip out when I knew they were looking the other way. I could do the same with a ridgeline, run down one side of it and peek over the other side. I've been killed more in Hardcore than I was prior to that, heck I've been killed by zombies on a Hardcore server, rounded a corner into 5 of them that must have killed someone. All agro'd and I got hit trying to cross a fence and ended up knocked down. Then I was stuck. Been there, done that, for over a year. I spent time hunting snipers in the hills above Electro/Cherno as well as running through them gearing up on 3PP servers. I've killed multiple people because I could line up the shot using 3PP and only pop out long enough to pull the trigger while they tried to figure out where I was. Trust me, it IS easier in 3PP I've done both. Here is a pro-tip for you, doesn't work all that well. You see... due to the rendering of the engine that bush doesn't hide you all that well at great distances. Here is another pro-tip, unlike 3PP where you can flip the camera around to tell how well you are hid, you have to actually HOPE you are hidden by the bush and are sometimes wrong on 1PP servers. You don't play 1PP, at least the comments you make lead me to believe you dabbled at it once... I've also not claimed that it takes more skill, i've stated 3PP removes a lot of the depth of combat. Now that you mention it though... it does shift the skill over to sitting in a hiding spot. You must realize the reason newly spawned players are called Bambies by so many is that they spend their time hunting them much like my dad hunts deer in the woods. Sit in a single place overlooking a spot where there has been bait at some point in time, wait for them to wander by, then peek out of your hidey hole and shoot them. 3PP makes it so you don't even have to sit up to peek out. This is by far the simplest form of hunting. So the skill you are espousing is even more simple than what you are calling simple skill for 1PP. It is this simple. Learn where the good hidey spots are and stay out of range and/or line of sight of them. End of story.

I was going to say... "I think he was thinking well if I shoot I might kill one or ruin their gear, they will kill me and ruin my gear, and who knows I might get lucky. If I surrender, well the last time they made me eat rotten fruit, stole all my stuff, broke my leg, and left me to crawl until I died from being sick.... Eh.. I might get lucky."

WOAH.. Any1 else read this article? Just found it

So you missed the big disclaimer not only when buying it, but also every time you log in. Myopic much? -
Curses... I have an axe and there is a tree there but the game is in Alpha and hasn't fully implemented crafting or anything like chopping down trees yet so I guess I'll insist other systems get removed because I can't deal with bugs despite the more than fair warnings when purchasing and every time I play this game that it is in fact an Alpha and there will be bugs and systems are not yet implimented.

Odd... I see you are in Poland and the person quoting... beat me too it. :)
-
As Valuable? MORE... If you run out of bullets you can run away... if you can't shift positions or run away you will eventually run out of bullets anyway.

I never said they weren't harder to pass. What I did point out and you ignored is that it is very very very very very very simple to camp in 3PP and not nearly as easy in 1PP. You see, to observer someone in 1PP you have to actually have some part of you visible. It might not be much or for long but it has to be out there or covering up the crack or something. If you are hiding then your FoV is narrowed down to what you can peek through/over/under/around not nearly as open as 3PP allows. Yes the game becomes harder for the person moving around but it becomes SO MUCH EASIER for the camping person that it negates any difficulty the non-camper has. It also eliminates nearly all of the higher level tactics that would get employed during a firefight and lowers them to the very simple, "Hide and shoot when they are no longer hiding." It basically dumbs the game down.

That certainly isn't true. In 3PP 2 players engage. Both find cover. They then sit in cover until the other one leaves cover then they pop up and shoot the other one. That is how the combat goes. If you are lucky you can retreat behind cover in a way that you can then circle around and shoot them from an unexpected angle, BUT this requires that you have cover that you can move directly away from. In 1PP 2 players engage. Both find cover. Now each in turn has to consider trying to keep eyes on the other. You don't want to sit in cover because doing so means your opponent can move to a different location and either flank you or shoot you as you come out of cover from an unexpected area. Of course if you peek out you run the risk of catching a bullet. So do you duck into the cover, or half in, or what? What if you ducked in and your opponent just posted and is now aiming at your cover ready to shoot as you emerge? Then again how long can he sit there exposed and watch that spot and what if you have long cover like a low wall where you could shift down the wall in cover and then pop up over there? What if he starts to use suppressing fire? Bullets pinging off your cover or right over your head can certainly convince you to stay in it and meanwhile he could shift over to a different angle. Since you can't magically see where he is you can't tell if your cover is about to be negated but if you peek you might be hit. This is especially true when it is group on group where one of them might be flanking you while one of the others pops shots into and around your cover. It is REALLY easy to negate covering fire in 3PP because you can see them moving and just shift to remain in cover.

Do I really have to say... "Alpha"? By having your legs break it is maybe ruining your game for the day, but in the end you will(I hope) report where/how you broke your legs and all the "glitches" you are talking about will go away.
-
Aside from everything else it's called, "Random". Even if statistically it seems impossible that you might not have seen a certain gun it is not impossible, it's simply improbably. You have the same chance of a gun spawning in a location every time the server resets. even with a 99% chance of spawning at a particular spawn point it might never spawn there. Why? because random chance.
-
Yes, I get that. For that 1 person it is harder. For the 15 it is ten times easier because they don't have to expose themselves. Net return, easier over all.
-
Did you just making an argument that because something is easier it's actually harder? I think my eye is starting to twitch.
-
What he is attempting to pass off as more difficult is that you have to dodge all the people camping and popping out to shoot at you because they can hide and use 3PP to see everything without being exposed. So since you can be shot with no real way of taking reasonable precautions against it, that mode is apparently more difficult. Kinda like saying playing a slot machine is more difficult than playing poker.
-
If I am not allowed to point out that Alpha means there will be bugs, may I at least ask if you have bug reported it yet or are you just forum complaining?
-
I can only hope. The mod gives you a pretty good view of what "mainstreaming" DayZ means. No thank you to easy mode "I spawn with a full kit.", self blood bag, "those that donate get special gear" DayZ.
-
Only to people who are not geared up and camping. Of course to get geared up you just go to an empty server where you don't have to worry about someone using 3PP to camp an area. Then once you have your gear you go to a good location where you can see everything in 3PP but can't be easily seen in turn, camp, and shoot. Zombies are less dangerous in 3PP(although they are not all that dangerous in general right now) since you can see them around corners and they can't see you. Watching your footing is easier(try running the boards in the swamp in 1PP without looking down). Spotting loot is easier since you can simply run past some loot spawns and see it without glancing around. Now... wait until vehicles are in. 1PP in a vehicle makes it a LOT harder to maneuver.
-
They won't. Rocket's take on things is you should go into the game and figure it out. Probably the main reason I bought the Alpha was so I could get at least SOME of it figured out before the rest of the world came along and told me how I "should" be doing things.
-
I am, and I am not. They have good and bad points. For games that have crafting it is sometimes nice to be able to look up outside the game what you need to craft X of whatever so you can compile a list of what you need and work towards that as a goal for the game. If you are about to spend a lot of in game currency on something and can't see any sort of stats on it... well.. it's hard to make an informed decision and this is where wiki help again. However some of the, "To solve this puzzle match up the symbols showing, if it goes XXY then the solution is to turn it 3 turns to the left and one to the right." I used to tick off my friend by running ahead of him in Dungeons and Dragons: Online and flipping puzzles around so it was actually random and you couldn't follow the wiki. Then we had to sit down and actually solved the puzzle (which all of them were solvable with LOGIC) instead of performing a rote action from a guide. ;)
-
Probably not. DayZ Mod didn't. That is why most games end up with a wiki or two. Wiki tend to be more accurate than game manuals as well. So.... http://dayzdb.com/

What do you think of people who lean into walls to glitch see inside/outside?
mercules replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Lol, I see you are mistaken. I hadn't checked the bug report yet today and so didn't see that people have found a way to do it in 1PP as well as the "lean" trick that works in 3PP. -
The people who look down on bandits and KoS players = annoying?
mercules replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
"Let" like I have ultimate control over if someone sees me or not. For one thing I play on the Hardcore servers which means if I can see them, they at least have a chance to see me. So yes, it is a bit more difficult if you try not to KoS... at least on Hardcore. -

mercules replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
I see that... they updated the bug report. I knew "leaning" didn't work, didn't realize zoom and running in place against the wall would. I wonder if FoV makes a difference and that is why I've not noticed? -

The fact that it only happens in "Magic Floating Eye" land? Just an exploit 3PP allows, nothing new. -
Why would they hire additional staff? Their advancement on the game has been solid. What do you mean lack of progress?
