Well, that certainly isn't true. Many viruses when they mutate become MORE lethal. Viruses mutate constantly. Check out the Spanish Flu also known as the 1918 Pandemic. I mean it is improbable for a virus to go from a body fluid transfer to airborne, but it is not unheard of. Who knows... maybe it had some human help doing so.

I don't think you get that "realistic" and "authentic" have different meanings. They are similar but there are subtle differences between them they are not synonymous. "Authentic" means "true", "pure", "credible", and "accurate". "Realistic" means: "real", "rational", "unfantastic", and "reasonable". Stop trying to make two words that are different equate, it doesn't work that way. Most parents are dumb about their kids studies because the average person doesn't read a full book after college, not one. The parents then lose all their accumulated knowledge and are under the impression things are different. Some techniques change, but things are still the same. Utilizing graphing solutions to Calculus doesn't mean that "science" changed. Light as a constant doesn't change. The scientific method is any different than it was 50 years ago. There are certain "facts" that have become facts because they have been tested and found true so many times that there is very little doubt that that is how they work. Fact: If you do not take in liquids you will die of dehydration. Fact: Objects dropped will accelerate at 9 meters per second squared. Fact: the speed of sound at sea level is 340.29 meters per second. See comment about you not understanding two English words and how they are different. See answers to 1. and 3.

They are not the same thing. Authentic Mexican food is not the same as "real mexican". Authentic Mexican Food means they used the proper ingrediants in the propper manner and came up with as real of an aproximation as they could. It's nuanced, but there is a difference. Say what? When I hop on a new Epoch server, even one without the 1000+ cars and starter loadout crap, I typically have a solid gun, full toolbelt setup with rangefinder and NVGs, large backpack, and an SUV with a key in about 3 hours play at most. Basically you loot anything that is small but sells for a good amount on your way to a trader fixing up whatever vehicle you might find along the way if you can. Um.... I don't think you understand science if you make that claim. Yes, they are striving to be authentic because they understand a game can not be realistic. Wrong. In a realistic game butchering a cow would require a good bit of skill to not ruin the meat and hide. In an authentic game butchering a cow requires approriate tools and results in appropriate in game items.
  6. Gosh, it's almost like you guys are playing some half finished game in alpha or something.

How to use the long range scope?

Don't use the Right Mouse button, use the +. The reason why is that RMB is Hold Breath and also has Zoom attached to it. You want to be able to zoom in without holding your breath so that when the time comes to settle your shot you can hold your breath for a significant time before you breath and start swaying again.

Pro-Tip... not having anything on your upper body makes you more likely to end up bleeding and needing to use the bandages you tore it into. ;)

First experience: "I just say Hi"

No, but it supposedly most often appears when a player first enters your "nitwerk bubbal".
  13. So what single player content does DayZ have? Answer: none. So I didn't compare Apples to Raisins. Stop... MMO PVP in the games you stated require something, but it isn't skill. Gear and a lot of time on your hands to get it is what makes you able to PVP and do well at it. <---------Gear--------------><skill>. That is about the right ratio. I didn't mention the build, because 99% of all PVP characters are built from tried over and over again min/max builds any schulb can look up on a wiki. But see... just like life... you have to put in the hours doing those other things. Sure Frankie or Lewis might put up a great video where some clan tries to raid their base and it is exciting, but days at the very least went into gathering materials and building that base that was raided. Yes, players treat it as nothing more than PVP and find ways to shortcut the survival part of it. This is why there are hundreds of, "StartingLoadouts|10000+Cars|SelfBloodbag|DonateForCustomLoadout|" private servers around. However, if you go back to the exact concept of the game and listen to Dean's story of it's creation you realize what the DEVELOPER is building towards is recreating the experience he had. He was alone in the woods with very little food and water for his military training/certification. There were other cadets in the woods in the same situation and no one had enough of anything. He had to gather food and water and survive, all the time knowing there were others out there who MIGHT come steal his food, water, or shelter. By the end he was sick, starving, and emotionally drained. Wasteland is an excellent "DayZ equivalent" for nothing but PVP. Random loot, no zombies, lots of action. BattleRoyal is even more so recreating the film in many ways. DayZ, as Dean wants it, is a survival sim and social experiment and despite you wanting to believe it's all about PVP the focus is on making a survival horror game, not a PVP game.
  14. Of course it is arguing semantics. I don't see anything wrong with arguing semantics. You understand that semantics deals directly with understanding the meaning of words. When you have a really good discussion going on it's important that everyone understands what meaning a word has especially in relation to the topic at hand. Otherwise what happens is you get two people arguing and not realizing that what they are arguing about is a non-issue but is happening only because they are giving different meaning to a word based on the context it is being used in. Humans should not be the "main threat" meaning the threat you encounter the most often. The environment and zombies should be the main threats. Things like cold and wet can kill you just as easily as a bullet. However you can prepare for such things and dealing with them properly should minimize them, but it might also aggrovate the other threat, humans. Say if you get soaked you need to dry off or risk getting sick and losing health fairly quickly. You can do so by going under a tree or into a building and lighting a fire. Well, now you are attracting unwanted attention by either having the light/smoke outside, or going to buildings which already attract players. I'd really like to see a game that makes you choose between dying from exposure or lack of nutrition or risking attracting the attention of other players. I like the new ones. Oh, you didn't know that these are the new ones, Dean himself wore the motion capture suit and created the animations we have now. It's an upgrade from the Mod animations, trust me. Yes and no. With the issue with Zombie Pathing, yeah pointing it out is a bit redundant since the devs have been saying since day one that the current zombie pathing is a placeholder. The new NavMesh, which is supposed to help with the running through walls issue is on experimental now, and it seems to be working. My friend was followed up the stairs to a house the zombie would have normally just walked through. He got thumped and has learned that the pathing has changed. So when the devs go, "Yes we know guys, we are working on it." Or say, "It's a placeholder." then bringing it up Over and Over and Over and Over again is pointless. We get new people every day and have to point out they don't have some magical insight and the devs are aware of the issue. Using the search function and reading some of the older posts can go a LONG way.

DayZ Zombies, an attempt to diagnose the zed condition

Toxoplasmosis is another interesting one. Basically it is a protozoan that infects any warmblooded mammal. It's normal life cycle though is in Cats and Mice. When the rodent is infected it starts to behave differently. It goes into dangerous areas where there is cat scent, or out into the open. In this way it gets eaten by the cat where the protozoan can continue it's next cycle. Nearly 1/3 of the human population today is infected with it. It is mostly harmless but recently researchers have started studying possible links between this and "risky behavior". They believe that it might suppress our self preservation parts of our mind and cause people to act differently than they would otherwise. It too causes encephalitis in some cases. So Rabies, Ebola, Toxoplamosis, and many other possible behavior altering diseases cause encephalitis. So if there ever is a Zombie virus I am sure it will do so as well.

DayZ Zombies, an attempt to diagnose the zed condition

You realize Rabies could possibly go airborne. In doing so it would not lose it's imperative to bite over night as that would be a different genetic mutation that would only slowly be weeded out as no longer being evolutionary necessary to spread. The main reason people did theorize about Rabies being a possible "Zombie" virus is that people infected with Rabies fit many of what people consider "zombie traits".
  17. Well this sounds remarkably like hyperbole, especially since there are constantly people failing raids in various MMOs. Half the challenge is gone because of wiki being out there for every single game so now people just follow the step by step guide and can get through most things. However, someone had to figure out what worked and failed a bunch of times to do so. So really there is no challenge if you don't challenge yourself. The way most people approach PVP there isn't really any challenge to it either so I don't get what great skills you are evidencing. It really sounds like you are only playing for ego strokes and I am WELL beyond caring what anyone thinks of me or if I am "better" at something than anyone else. When I feel the need to to get into PVP I could do something that is nothing but PVP like MWO, BF3. I love the PVP in DayZ because I have to pay attention, play carefully, and if I don't I'll likely die, but I don't run to a Police station, loot a gun, and then go try and find someone to shoot because I can literally do that so much better in something else like Wasteland for ARMA III. Not what I was doing. I was pointing out that watching a video of the game is a lot like watching a movie. They go through and edit out all the boring and leave only the action. So then people come along and watch said video and think that is ALL there is to the game. See if I went through and edited my life the same way someone putting up a DayZ video does their play sessions you would get a really different idea of who I am than if you watched my every day life. There is PVP in DayZ but there is also a lot of other things going on, it's not JUST PVP, just like my life isn't just getting stuck in a snowdrift on the interstate and almost dying when the semi I passed a few minutes earlier came flying through the white out conditions. He missed my car, which was buried in a three foot snowdrift blocking the highway, but about 6" wile I was desperately digging out the snow around and under the car with my bare hands trying to get free before someone hit me or the car. There are a half dozen fights that would be highlighted. The almost half year I spent homeless on the streets breaking and entering into buildings to have a warm place to sleep because I live in the North and it was winter. The 13 car accidents I've been in(most of them I was not driving at the time). The medical emergencies I've responded too as a First Responder. So sitting down and saying, "All the DayZ Videos show the PVP." Yup, because that is the "action". Movies do the same thing even when based off real life events, the boil it down to a few exciting scenes and show just that, that doesn't mean nothing else happened. Again.. it's a part, it's not all there is.
  18. People will always be the BIGGEST threat, they might not be the "main threat".

DayZ Zombies, an attempt to diagnose the zed condition

Yes, but being immune to small pox doesn't change my chances of getting the common cold or influenza. We, the survivors, are immune to the specific strain of virus that has turned the rest of the population into "zombie"-ish automatons. If we get infected it is bacterial from drinking poor water or cuts, viral such as colds/flus, or fungal, but it is not that specific virus.

DayZ Zombies, an attempt to diagnose the zed condition

Here is an old discussion on this topic. The Rage virus is based off Ebola. Ebola and Rabies both create edema in the brain which is what creates disorientation in the victims. The movie Quarantine used a genetically modified Rabies that was extremely fast acting. The theory behind a possible outbreak of a "zombie" plague is that something like Rabies if mutated could cause symptoms that make people aggressive, phobic and easily agitated, and given a strong urge to bite. Such individuals would be less affected by pain and so able to shrug off non-lethal damage. It is theoretically possible although extremely unlikely.

Best places for loot? New to DayZ

You won't find much in these spots if the server hasn't restarted any time recently. These are almost always picked over while you can sometimes find pistols and rifles in the houses that supposedly "Only have hats and rotten bananas." In my last three lives, the SKS/Mosins I found were never once from any of these locations. As I said, if the server hasn't recently restarted they are picked over. If you want something like an AKM I believe they ONLY spawn in barracks right now.

    Cars in Dayz Standalone

The majority of Vanilla is unofficial not connected to the hive. So by your standards all of the mod is XXX+ vehicles, not just Epoch. Notice that word, "majority". 674 results for DayZ Vanilla in DayZCommander. Filter out the unofficial and I am left with 128. That means there are 546 unofficial which have likely changed the base rules of Vanilla in some manner. What you should probably say is that "this isn't a privately hosted server where the owner can choose to make it easier on you." and just leave Epoch out of it. There are plenty of Vanilla servers with the same sins as Epoch servers. It's not the game mod that adds them in, it's the private owners.

    Handcuffs kill you?

Patchnotes.... such a useful thing to read.
  24. If running around shooting bad guys isn't the point of life, why is it that the majority of movies out there are action flicks? Rational people understand that people don't watch a DayZ video to observe someone cutting down 40 trees or searching thousands of loot spots for the stuff to try and create a bloodbag. When I play Epoch and record I doubt any of you want to watch my 3 day search for a chainsaw, the 2 cycle oil for it, and then my day of cutting lumber, turning some of it into plywood, then combining that into 1/3 walls then turning those into walls, then adding more lumber and plywood to make large wood walls, while I construct my base. Some people will do a montage to show they were doing something but condense it into a short little..."and look I crafted stuff". Basically they edit out the everyday stuff and focus on the 5-10 minutes of adrenaline. Actually I bought into the alpha to: *Give the developers some money *See features as they develop and offer feedback *Test features As we can see... the guns are getting a lot of testing. So some of us are going to wander out into the woods and test things like gathering berries, crafting bows, hunting, and cooking meat. There are people finding out if having 12 items in your backpack protects you more than having 2. Nice insult. Rude to the developmentally disabled and the people having a discussion with you. I can't believe you can't grasp a simple concept such as PVP is a part of DayZ but that doesn't mean it is the main focus of it. There are literally hundreds of games that have PVP as the ONLY focus, not just main. Many more where it is the main focus and the other parts just support that. DayZ is a game based on survival and dying during PVP is just one of the numerous ways you can die. Right now nearly anyone could survive easily but more and more systems are going in enhancing that survival element. PVP will always be there as a major cause of player death, but it is not the only thing going on. ....and then you went on to support my point? It's not less than 10-15 minutes before the loot clears and new stuff respawns. People HAVE to be out of that area for that entire time and good loot is "high traffic" so the timer keeps getting extended. What typically happens is what I described. Someone enters a barracks, they grab two good guns but leave all the tin cans, bottles, that crappy backpack, the shotgun, and other "trash loot". They wander out of the area 20 minutes later after hitting every location in the area. Next person comes along and keeps the existing crap active, or the same guy circles back around having worked his way up West to East and is now going back West. He doesn't loot now, but passes by and triggers the timer again. Now it takes a while for people to travel to the "next good spot". Longer than 15 minutes so they will often cycle the loot of an area by staying out of it for 15 minutes then going back through it, but if they come in too soon they mess it up. Meanwhile they don't want to wander too far away, that is the point in cycling is so you don't have to travel across the map, but just waiting out the timer means doing nothing.... So what happens? I know for the aircraft carrier in the Breaking Point mod countless players would loot the ship, hop to another server, loot it again, hop, loot, hop, loot, hop, loot, hop back to the first. You could get far enough away on the front to spawn loot on the back again, but you had to sit out there, in the open, for a long time. There were tons of reasons to hop for loot at that location considering how exposed it was. While not as exposed in most places the reasoning still stand, you can hop 8 servers in the mod and get more loot faster than if you waited out the respawn timer. So you mean the issue that has been an issue since the very existence of the Mod, long before DayZ SA was even an idea.... is because DayZ SA is an Alpha? <_<

    Force feeding and suicide

Forcefeeding also allows you to feed passed out people, like actual healthy things to make them better like if they passed out for dehydration.
