I finally got my wish :)

Depends. Wolf-Dog mixes are illegal where I live, as is owning a wolf because once they lose their fear of humans(and the mixed breed tend to not have the fear to start with) they can be very dangerous and will attack humans. That being said I've come face to face with wolves(once from about 10 yards away) multiple times and they have not attacked. The one that scared me most was the one that was in our wilderness neighborhood. He would follow people walking down the road, skulk around houses, and was NOT afraid of humans at all. I actually loaded the shotgun and kept it handy until animal control finally got around to coming out and checking him out. They outright shot him instead of trapping and moving him to a different area as he was completely unafraid of humans and likely to attack one.

    [Clarification] DayZ Server Monetization

If you look back at what I stated might be legit was something like a custom armband with a certain color or pattern on it that your clan spawns with. BARELY effects gameplay but is pretty nice to have. Which, of course is pretty much the same idea Orlock had of an example.
  3. Look back through the thread and read how many times I have pointed out that I honestly believe that people who refuse to play 1PP are cheating themselves of a better experience. I am advocating for 1PP. Any "mocking" of 3PP I have done is me refuting claims that 3PP is just as good or isn't easy mode. I've provided examples as to why I consider it easy mode, statements supporting my argument. Maybe I'll try again. In ARMA II and III there are various difficulties: Recruit, Regular, Veteran, and Expert. You can see the breakdown of what applies to each difficulty here: https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma_3_Difficulty_Menu Notice: Not having 3PP on is part of EXPERT ARMA. Ergo, if you are playing in 3PP you are playing an easier game than those playing in 1PP. This isn't a judgement or mocking of 3PP. This is just a fact backed up by Bohemia Interactive's documentation. Now, in my opinion both ARMA and DayZ offer a better experience in 1PP because of that added bit of difficulty. In my opinion it levels the playing field between players and 1PP is less exploitable. DayZ development SHARES that opinion based off of comments made by several of them about 3PP and the exploits it allows. Let's also point out at this point that DayZ is supposed to be the "anti-game" and not easy so why are we including the easy mode version? This brings me to the next part of the discussion. 3PP was NOT changed because 1PP advocates are yelling at them. It was changed specifically because the development team believes 3PP has exploits. Some of them like 3PP but have stated they need to fix the exploits that come about because of it. So my statement about wasting development time and money on it addresses putting time and effort into fixing it, when they could just remove it and have a FREE alternative that resolves all the exploits, it's called 1PP.

    [Clarification] DayZ Server Monetization

Notice it is ONLY on modded servers once modding is allowed. Cosmetic items could be as simple as a different character skin, a baseball cap with your clan tag on it, or something similar. Non-game affecting is harder to define since in DayZ as it exists having a face mask on could be the difference between being cold or being okay. Maybe at some point custom armbands might be possible and thus you might be able to pay to start with a particular color so your clan all runs around with the same color or pattern.

Another Hive Wipe for 0.59...? If so why?

Which is probably why you are a game player and not game developer. First thing you learn with computers is "garbage in = garbage out". It the current DB is bloated with misbegotten loot or erroneous dropped loot from errors prior to changes you can not test those changes with the corrupted DB. You have to start with a clean slate so your data means something. .

Heck at night you can navigate by the stars if you know anything about the night sky. It's a realistic sky.

Another Hive Wipe for 0.59...? If so why?

Here is the most likely explanation. Right now one of the things they are working on and testing is loot distribution. The are working on their central loot economy and to gather data untainted by people having stockpiled ammo/mags/guns from various loot explosions that happened earlier they have to wipe the server and the 20 60 round Stanag mags someone has stashed in a barrel/tent. At one point I couldn't check a deerstand without finding a Hunting Scope in it. Since they are working on also doing a area based loot distribution they also have to wipe out all the SMGs found in the Berinzino police station as they might end up making them more rare there and more common the further inland you go. So until they have figured out their loot distribution I assume their will be regular wipes. On top of that any old school player will tell you straight out, "This is DayZ son, don't get attached to your stuff!"
  9. So rent a server and play?
  10. You will notice that the "zombies" in DayZ are not dead people who have reanimated. They are in fact Infected. There is no mysterious meteor or radiation that has reanimated them like in older zombie movies but instead they are Infected like in "28 Days Later" and "Quarantine". Why is that? If you ask around you will find out that those movies are the most likely basis of a "zombie apocalypse" style occurrence. It is still Science Fiction but the science part is solid. A radically mutated or engineered virus can cause irritability and aggression and be spread through various vectors. This is the type of "zombie" we have in DayZ a plausible "zombie". That is why it doesn't require headshots to kill them and they don't have axes sticking out of their backs or missing limbs. These are, for all practical purposes as "authentic" of a zombie as we can envision. Science can explain how they might occur. So when you use arguments like, "Zombies aren't real so we shouldn't worry about reality in the game." It sounds ridiculous. The game is all about, "What IF zombies are real. How can we be authentic to THAT experience." That is why the characters can't fly. That is why they are going to be putting in an endurance system and weight. That is why (once vehicles are expanded) we will no longer be able to sprint across the map without rest in less than an hour. That is why we don't have lasers, gauss/coil guns, and such. The want an authentic survival experience. That doesn't mean REAL it means an approximation of real. Just like when you watch something like Daredevil on Netflix. You don't want the show to be "real" because the poor blind attorney would end up broken or dead after the first crime he tried to stop. However, you still want it to be "authentic". You want the character to seem like he fits into the setting he is in and you want to believe that his miraculous "sense" that lets him know where things are works and is based off some realistic principle and that it is authentic. Let me quote something from the Benihanna page. According to you that means he shipped a Japanese farmhouse to America and built a restaurant around it. The word authentic means it posses a real quality to it. It approaches realism. See, that is the second definition. Origin supported by unquestionable evidence. That means this simulation game is based on probable science. The zombies, not being real things, are based off of a realistic background/origin so that they make sense in the game world and are AUTHENTIC. 3PP doesn't make sense in such a setting. It gives you advantages you would not have if you were dropped into said situation where zombies are as realistic as possible. It is literally "magic" in a game that strives to explain things... even zombies.

Critical things Dayz need to be a survival game

I know, right. Do we really have to say.... ALPHA

No... learn to navigate. I hate that feature in ARMA II, III and mods for those. Some at least force you to have a working GPS unit to give you waypoints and map markers.

    Any active Battle Royale servers?

Shouldn't you be checking here? http://battleroyalegames.com/ I mean a 10 second Google search should have found that for you.
  14. So let me get this straight. You think the Outback Steakhouse employs only people from Australia because it is an "authentic australian steakhouse"? Are these clothes over 100 years old as they are "Authentic Old West Wear"? You seem to not understand that "authentic" doesn't mean something actually IS it means it matches what a real thing might be. An "authentic murder mystery dinner" would not mean the victims were actually being killed, but it would have all the classic elements common to murder mystery novels. See, murder mysteries, as they are novelized, are not real, but something can be authentically based off them. Zombies are not real. The apocalypse has not happened. We can't perfectly simulate it short of risking our actual lives, but we can create an authentic experience and I can tell you that looking out through my character's eyes is a LOT more authentic than seeing they back of their head and over and around things.
  15. I've found that happens to a lot of groups. You have the one person who refuses to play on 1PP servers so when we play with them we give in and let them have it.
  16. I can tell you emuthreat and myself have seen each other on one of the 1PP experimental servers. I play on 1PP servers the vast majority of the time. I play on Gents of Novo server which is 3PP because of the community involved as those guys are great, but I wish they had a 1PP server for myself and friends. This is a poor argument. We are attempting for an AUTHENTIC zombie apocalypse survival game. Zombies in that case are authentic, but 3PP is not.
  17. Uh-huh.... You would need something like a stab vest to stop a proper nailbat. The maori used a variety of clubs made of stone and wood and regularly incorporated things like Shark's teeth into them to add tearing and ripping in addition to the blunt force damage. On the show "Deadliest Warriors" they did some "tests" to see what sort of damage weapons can do. To quote, "...the shark tooth club was able to not only cut its leg of beef, but kept cutting when the teeth broke off inside the target." Ever here of a Tetsubo/Kanabo? Wood club with spikes/nails lining it to give it more heft and damage from the studs.
  18. No you don't, apparently. Instead of insisting that there be a free option to overcome my issue I resolved it myself. That was my comparison. Sure the free option exists already but it also comes with exploits that make the game simpler and easier. My analogy was if I insisted they dumb down the controls and maybe put in an auto-run and follow command so I could give my hands and wrists a break. Someone with vision problems might buy a larger monitor instead of insisting they put in a server that runs everything in 800x600 resolution. Because, let's face it, 3PP gives such an advantage that if you are on a 3PP server you basically need to be using it.
  19. Yes the two issues are really comparable. SOME people only get motion sickness because of the graphics stutter from low frames per second. Having a focal point like their avatar they can see in 3PP helps ground them so the flicker is less of an issue but in 1PP lacking the focus for their motion the low FPS ends up being more of an issue. Do you know what the solution is for them? It's really similar to me spending $100 on an ergonomic keypad in addition to my $40 keyboard... They can get a better computer with a better GPU and CPU that helps them get better FPS. I've also talked to people who state they get motion sickness who reply to me with, "Turning off headbob helps? How do you turn that off? Nevermind let's just play on a 3PP server." It sounds mean to say it, but I honestly believe a lot of the "1PP makes me ill" people haven't really bothered to do anything to mitigate it and for some it's just a handy excuse to just ignore it and go with what they are more comfortable with and nothing to do with medical issues.

Make towns unique with unique loot?

A simple palette swap for a few buildings could go a LONG way towards making it look like there are more types of buildings. Look at any major U.S. housing development. Many of them have what we call "cookie cutter" houses in that they are all built on the same plans. In most neighborhoods like that it's the landscaping, painting, and other decorations that ends up making all the houses look different. Imagine if some of the "red brick houses" were brown, white, or yellow bricked. A simple house that is always red could look rather different if it was blue, green, yellow, brown, light green, dark green, tan, or even purple or yellow.
  21. Easy solution... play on private servers. Eliminates 100% of the server hopping when on a server that has it's own unique hive.

    Chicken coops

My main issue with foraging feathers is that compared to looting for bullets I am only gaining one type of resource for the time invested. Searching for bullets compatible for a gun means running into multiple other useful items like food, drink, secondary bullets, clothing and other gear, and even improved weapons or scopes. Searching for feathers is a static job(which leaves you more vulnerable than wandering searching for bullets) with low rewards for only one resource(feathers) and is for a less viable weapon that isn't even usable until I spend additional time gathering other singular supplies and crafting it. I used to love crafting a bow for the challenge and having a silent zombie killer among our group... now I just skip it because it is nearly easier for find a pistol suppressor and a pistol mag combo or sometimes even to find an AK and suppressor and during that time looking I find everything else I need incidentally.

    Realistic =/= Difficult

Reality is a bad word to use and a bad aim to have. I believe the prefered term by the DayZ devs is "authentic". Authentic allows for gameplay balance and immersion to work hand in hand. For example you want food to be scarce but not so scarce that 95% of the game is spent gathering food. You want the player to work for it, but not to the point where they become too frustrated to play. The main issue is that we ALL have different points as to where that is. I have no issue with looting a few seeds and growing food, visiting an apple tree, or looting feathers and crafting a bow to hunt with to stay fed. I do have an issue with it being EASIER to find canned food and fill up than it is to find feathers to craft a bow which still doesn't feed me till I can assemble it and find an animal. Finding 10-20 shotgun rounds is easier than finding 10-20 feathers, less risky, and likely takes about the same amount of time but in the former case you are also able to find other gear while getting the shotgun rounds. See, that is partially an authentic experience(I would argue feathers need to be more common than bullets). A realistic experience would not see me able to craft a bow and keep it in usable condition in the manner I do in DayZ. :)
  24. No, we don't and when on a 3PP server we utilize 3PP and the very exploits we don't like existing in the game because they exist and to not use them would be to unfairly handicap ourselves. Just like 3rd party VOIP is basically unstoppable, I can run Skype on my phone/tablet/virtual machine or even a TS3/Mumble client and BE will have no clue it exists. The knowledge to set this up is minimal. So short of the honor system(which places like ShackTac have) there is no way to enforce it. Enforceable rules are bad because they apply only to the honest. I also use a TrackIR headset which allows me to change my view easily by simply moving my head. When flying I use alternate controls like joystick and pedals. I also have a gaming mouse with multiple thumb buttons to make tasks easier. In fact because I do have some issues with my joints and hands I utilize an Orbweaver keypad with allows me to adjust it so that it is ergonomic and I can play without my wrists and hands aching so much. This is akin to the "1PP makes me ill." argument. Notice instead of insisting on simpler controls I resolved my issue by adjusting my end of things and spending my money on something to make it better for ME.
