1. It means it's 9 o'clock on the server. Now an even time COULD mean the server just reset, but it doesn't have to. I used to have mine restart to something like 7:21, just to mess with server hoppers. ;) 2. Yes... which is why I tend to play on private servers. They can't just hop to the most recently started server, loot, and repeat. They would have to wait for that one server to reboot, which is typically 4 hours. 3. Middle Mouse button. Get used to it. A cleanly running server makes this better.

Infected are not dead, which is why you can kill them with body shots easily. We survivors are immune to the virus.

I think I might have a problem with shotguns...
mercules replied to emuthreat's topic in General Discussion
I prefer the MP5/AK74u as a backup weapon, they are just harder to find. I will often pick up the first hacksaw I find and hold on to it till I run into a double barrel shotgun. At that point I find two more empty spaces and start carrying that as a backup only dumping it for either a nice pistol or above mentioned guns. I've actually considered carrying a pump shotgun as my "main" if I could get another AK74u for my backpack. It works pretty well in any close engagements. -
I think I might have a problem with shotguns...

I took a player out with a double barrel in a single shot at about 60-70 meters. He ran up to my friend and myself and we were about to start a nice refreshing swim back to the mainland from Skalisty isle. He didn't have a gun but did have a melee weapon and just kept dancing back and forth at that range talking to us. I told him to go away and run deeper into the island as we were leaving. Mentioned there were a few things unlooted and he should go away. He kept trying to move a bit closer and moving back and forth without going away. So I unloaded one barrel. He fell dead. Both I and my friend were shocked at how effective it still was out that far. -
Thoughts on the new eating and drinking system?
mercules replied to battlerhd's topic in General Discussion
It's not, I haven't had an issue once since the new patch. Stop eating Tactical Bacon. -
I've never been at a grey screen for more than 15 minutes. It's not hard. When someone has low blood pressure your vision really does "grey out" in real life. Pilots encounter it a good deal when pulling too many Gs and not getting enough oxygen to their brain.

What do you think will be the lifeblood of this game?
mercules replied to gankaskon's topic in General Discussion
How many multiplayer uber hardcore survival sims are there out there? How many less hardcore fun PVP game are there out there? Please let us have at least one survival sim since the "fun pvp" type games are more numerous than cockroaches in New York. -
"Hey Ed, I notice we are a bit behind on Tax Returns right now. You know, I understand you like having living plants around the office and polished floors, but can't we give the janitor a calculator and have him get on some of those corporate tax returns so we can get caught up? What do you mean that isn't what he does here? Well, then what about that guy in the cafeteria? I've seen him count out change."

Stone knife takes 2 minutes to craft and the spots you can do so are scattered all over. Most locations don't require you to go anywhere near a zombie or where you are likely to encounters another player. When crafted it is pristine and can be used for all kinds of things. Axe on the other hand requires I go to some specific spawn points where players are likely. Basically I like to keep the pristine axes I find pristine and slowly wear down improvised knives which I can remake in very little time without much risk. Also, you can't cut burlap into strips with an axe. ;)

When you know you play too much Dayz :p
mercules replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
....when you glance into the neighbor's Federal Marshal truck, notice his M4 in it's locked rack and try and identify what attachments he has on it. Especially when you start going, "I really prefer the ACOG sight myself." in your head. -
In MWO's case it was the publishing company IGP that forced the developers down a bad path, not the vocal minority. Not one player ever asked for a $500 gold mech package they could buy. More than 2/3rds of the active community(closer to 80%) voted against the inclusion of 3rd person into the game but IGP forced it through to make the game more appealing to people not familiar with the game style. This was after the lead developer had stated numerous times through beta that there would never be a 3rd person perspective to the game. If they had ONLY had money from fans influencing their decisions the game would have been much better, but IGP pushed through a lot of really bad ideas because they held the license on the IP.

Why is such a drastic increase in enterable buildings considered a good thing?
mercules replied to BC_Hawke's topic in General Discussion
Further in land? Yes. However what basically happens in the Mod is that you end up encountering people in the same locations over and over and skip nearly every small town. You basically run down a list and go: Does this town have: Open Church Corner Pub Firehall Red Brick Building Grocery Store Hospital Shed Barns If not you skipped it. Once you had a decent gun and a few other things you basically skipped even those towns and just went for barracks. So of course you ran into people more because loot was more or less concentrated in 10% of the map with very little chance of getting it any place else. Military loot was focussed in less than 5% of the map and so even worse. I really like SA where I don't even have to enter a town to meet most of my basic survival needs. I can find matches and rope in an out of the way place, craft a knife, kill an animal for it's hide, meat, and guts, and start crafting things like a backpack, bow, and such. -
3 Years ago I bought MWO through a kickstarter style program. I am glad I did as the closed Beta was probably one of the better times to play the game. :) Still playing it though.

What gun was your first shooting kill with?
mercules replied to Heatofbattle's topic in General Discussion
Mosin. Guy started to follow me around after I ran into him in a small town. I asked him to stop but he continued. Finally I stated I would shoot him if he continued to follow me and he said, "Oh yeah I bet you don't even have any ammo for it." *Bang* Me: "Apparently I do." -
Zombie AI is one of the next big things they will be working on. I am waiting to see what they do with that. After that they might be able to add more zombies or they might have to wait for the renderer portion of the engine to help optimize things a bit so that too many zombies do not cause too much lag. They WANT to have many, many, many, more zombies in the game but it is an Alpha and they are working out bugs and developing ways to do things.

See... someone who knows where to look. I'll have to check and see if the link in my signature still works, but check the tracker for information about possible bugs like the poster I quoted. :)

One thing I do know is that some of the windows are already broken out and so you often shoot through them or poke an appropriate melee item through them. I killed a zombie that was unable to get into the house I had stepped into through a broken window by jabbing it with a stun baton.

Actually, it is insight into what happens in a consequence free environment. The more difficult it becomes to get your character back to the same point the less likely people will be to PvP for fun. Obviously some will still do it for fun and consider preparation a "tax" but others will not risk their status just to shoot at bambis on the coast. I say status because right now Gear is about the only status we have. You have none, some, good, and great gear and sometimes going from None to Great in a very short time making the Risk/Reward for "Fun PVP" be very little risk for a lot of reward. Someday it might not be worth wasting ammo on newspawns or making noise and attracting attention and risking death because you might not be able to get right back into the swing of things as quickly. We will see.

It's not a "High Loot" server. Likely it is low pop with Persistence on in which case you can get very nice steady loot in multiple areas. On such a server I found in the two Barracks in Zelenogorsk no less than three automatic rifles including mags for them. That was because loot had spawned there, not been picked up but not be cleared out, spawned again, not been picked up, and so on. The server was fairly laggy and Zombies were not adhering to the navmesh very well because of that so I didn't stick on it very long.

Think I found worst person to play Dayz
mercules replied to cheranuscrusiser's topic in General Discussion
Well, you didn't reply and turned away from him to hide the pistol/sawed off, you were pulling out... At least that is what it probably looked like from his perspective. -
So, true story. My friend and I ended up very well geared up and decided to head down to Cherno. People occasionally spawn there and it is not the PVP fest the NE spawns tend to be. We figure we will either get into some trouble or possibly help out some non-hostile newspawns. We move into town scanning carefully for snipers on any of the buildings, watching for movement, and taking out zombies as they come at us. Eventually we make our way to the police station and I go in the front my friend goes around the back and suddenly, "Ah! Someone trapped a zombie between the two doors!" He killed the zombie with his axe and we moved on. We scanned the first floor and moved to the second. Again my friend encountered a zombie and finished it off. I had my AKM out, opened a door, slid into the room and crouching there was a poorly equipped survivor with a CR572. I was just pressing the push to talk button to say, "Hey there, drop the gun. I won't shoot you if you do and maybe we can help you out." when his gun went off. There was a Pulp Fiction moment then; where I stared in amazement that he decided to fire, MISSED ENTIRELY, and then expended a mag into him. I can only assume he was using the zombies as warning alarms, to cover up noise, and to get people to pull out a melee weapon so he could blast them from ambush as they came through the door. For how well thought out that seemed he was really bad at execution, pun intended. Sorry random guy, I was going to drop you a bag of rice, water bottle, and improvised knife... but....

I think I experienced Salmonellosis. I experimented with raw boar meat just to see. After a bit I got sick. So I did what should have worked for food poisoning in the past, I forced myself to vomit. I then rehydrated and filled myself back up. Normally at that point the sick would go away and you would start getting better. This time it didn't. I forced vomiting again and again replenished energy and hydration. After a bit "Sick" came back. So now came the hunt for a cure. Luckily I found some Antibiotics next to a military truck crash. I used them, not once, but twice and then after a while the sick suddenly went away.

To be technical, you can't be shot while driving... I have most certainly died. In fact I have decided not to ever get into a truck if I am well geared. The Law of DayZ is that if you find something "cool" you will die soon. So I hit a military spawn and found a High Capacity Vest, AKM, and not one, but two mags for the AKM. This was on a private server so I was really super happy. My friend had recently respawned and was on the East side of the map while I was in the West. Running over I found a VS3 and was like, "Could my day be any more perfect?" sure enough there was a jerry can in the nearby shed. Dumped that in and figured I had enough gas to drive around until a server restart and started going. I was Driving down the road like a boss... had adjusted my view so I was a bit lower and could see out the window better, and was cruising. Paved road, nothing in it, suddenly the truck flips. It bounces and rolls around and around and around. I wait for it to settle hoping it doesn't blow up or something similar like ARMA vehicles tend to do after that much bouncing. Finally it settles but the roof is in the ground. Now at this point I should have used my head and disconnected and hoped the game updated my position to not be in the ground or even where I got into the truck. Nope, I opened the door, and got out hoping it would spawn me next to the flipped truck.

There aren't High Loot servers either. All servers have the same loot table.

You can craft a bow in about 15 minutes unless you get unlucky.
