    Combine pistols - dual wield

    Yeah all good points but you got to admit you would look seriously cool with two pistols, okay u might die due to not be able hit straight but u will die with smile on your face ;)

    Where does mosin spawn?

    Found one in army barracks just north off the beech in the south west corner, nice place there lots of gear and found some ammo for all weapons, until the server rest so unless I am one of those 5000, balls!!! i name my mosin as well dammit and didn`t even get chance to fire the little fella, did chamber a round in it which sounds awesome!!!

    One touch from a Zombie makes you bleed

    sure is i did bit of experimenting, i spawned next a zombie and got into a fist cuff fight with him took me a while but i was pretty much bleeding straight away. I then, just before player wipe, tried again this time I had a crash helmet on, rain coat, cargo pants and naturally sun glasses. Zombie gave me a least 5 hits was not bleeding at all and allowed me to grasp the "axe in the face technique". So all about clothing, also a helmet makes you pretty much impossible to knockout from another player using just there fists ;-) mucho fun!!

    DayZ Hacks already happening

    hhmmm a quote off reddit on hacking by dean "all war is based on deception" -Sun Tzu, 4th BC and followed by Hacks appear, patches get released. That's how this thing works. reddit link to rocket2guns account. Which looks like to me that this might be part of the process, leave it open find the main hacks they use and then patch. Then repeat, another patch tomorrow. They are not stupid they will be on top of the hacks, ever since we heard they were making this game hacking was top of the agenda so they will be sorting. Patience here I think, can`t stop all the hackers but I reckon they will stop the vast proportion of them.

    First evening of play

    Okay big moment followed this game for well over year and it was finally here to buy, so got me mates on skype and joined servers. I have not played the mod in a long time and was just getting back into the swing of things. First life no loot died falling of a cliff, oops didn`t see it to late and was lost anyways. 2nd go was much more amusing I spawned next to a zombie eating a player who was dead on the floor, so thought good as time as any to test zombie stuff.Rolled up my sleeves and let go with old thunder and lightening. One quick quite enjoyable fight later, zombie dead me bleeding and looted the poor player corpse and ripped his shirt up for bandages then proceeded into the village to look for loot. First two buildings nothing then found a played said "hi", no response over voice. Had nothing to gain from fighting him (he had basic tshirt jeans etc..) and looked around, found another corpse but had a crash helmet so quickly put then on and some rocket shades which were on corpse. Then the bloke who I said hi to came over and started hitting me, I said over mike "I have nothing so its pointless" but he proceeded to punch the seven shades of you know what out of me. I sighed and left him to it, he followed me around punching me for at least 1 min, my helmet thou was winning the battle easy!! So I kept ignoring him and told him again "its not worth it", naturally more punches rained in. Well a man can stand so much its time to unleash old thunder and lightening again, so a few choice lefts and rights and he was down, I made sure he stayed knocked him out looted corpse (naturally taking more bandages). Then onwards I went to electro and the fire station and power station, all empty of loot and died from not eating or drinking anything. Last go spawned in a place by a petrol station and store, all looted so thought time to move on, ran the wrong way of the edge of the map. Cursed the game and turned around and ended up bottom left town by beach, still no loot. Right then before I die again, i`m going to go inland to the army base just of the coast. Made it their finding backpack and compass on route. Lots of loot in army camp here found another backpack, jacket, rifle rounds, shotty ammo, food, drink, axe. After some more zombie dodging left my char near the base. Negatives 3 disconnects today, in a 3 hr session but not to bad. loads of servers were full so couldn`t play with my mates lack of zombies (not a bad thing at the mo, but needed to be said) annoying text all the time feel hungry/thirsty do we need to know about people logging in, just find it distracting the odd inventory glitch, where you have to do things twice or more but worked eventually with patience. will reserve judgement on graphics until i see daylight dayz maybe stretch eating and drinking, seems you have to eat alot all of the time and drink. can`t make a judgement of zombies due to lack of contact defo WIP anyway 15second delay ish on your items appear after logging back in even thou you can move about, until you realise its annoying still got some KOS issues but meh what can you do its people! I miss the text to say roughly where you are at the start, i understand why its gone but still for finding ya location etc.. sometimes spawn next to zombie or other player, happened to me mate as well hopefully can be fixed positives inventory system, simple, clear and does the job well night time proper spooky, torch looks cool. varied items and gear, always exciting to find ammo an stuff for first time. still has the dayz feel from the mod, noticeable tension as i got more stuff on the whole smooth connection to servers very quick compared to the mod loads of enterable buildings (heaven), lots of fun looking for loot and you got to really look on top of cupboards etc.. Conclusion. Really enjoyed my last go, was getting into the game properly moving of the beech inland helps finding gear. Always worried about food and water, feels proper survival game in that sense. Early early days but the basics are there for a cracking game. Now would I recommend it to a friend, currently no I would leave it for a month and then look at it again. Especially if they had no experience of the game before hand. By then big bugs will be sorted and game balancing issues will be on the go. *Oh yeah just saw the update which address some of the issues I stated but left them there as my review.*
  6. Hey all, been watching rockets twitch vids with keen interest, I have to admit I prefer these then ya standard dev blog. You get good interaction with the people in stream, rocket fills in the gaps with info of status bugs answers questions, has discussions about key features. I find it refreshing to see a game developer playing his game and enjoying himself with his friends but allowing everyone else input. Rocket comes across so passionate about his game and the team, the future of the game sounds amazing, u can here the excitement in his voice. Like the touch of having some of his mates acting as people to interview and bounce ideas of as well as providing insights into the game. Some points I like : I have nearly wet myself laughing at some points, especially when rocket moans about a bug. Nice to actual play of the game not staged rocket filling his pants when get ambushed is most amusing, also when the zombies attack. The first sight of new cherno I think that will live in the memory of fans of the original. Night time looked cool and scary, I can see lots of scrambling for batteries happening. I can't wait for bows to be put in love the idea of stealthy taking down zombies, ppl and hunting animals. Oh yeah someone posted here about the cost of renting servers, now I am sure I read from rocket that the server hosting is done for free, cause the hosters want the game to work so ppl can then buy there own serves from them. I am sure I read this but can't find the source, maybe someone else can confirm. Oh choo choo for hype train ;)
  7. I remember posting this topic back in March when June was looking possible I can`t even remember why we thought June. Here is said link if you want to refer back to the voting or check how you voted:- March Poll I had a good response last time, 147 members cast a vote and some discussion was had, so now I am actually quite interested to see this vote. I have added a few more options this time and we shall see if we get the same amount of interest and if the voting has changed. I am going to vote the same thing i`ll buy it as soon as its release no matter what, dayz mod was the best "game" I have played in a long time and am looking forward to seeing all the changes. So cast a vote for the option fits you the most and put a comment down if you want to say something about why you voted
  8. cheers for that mate, honestly I am not fussed if people think its a dead thread fair enough. Why they need to comment and say that an waste more time on a thread they do not like then well whatever... Anyway back to the vote, vast proportion of people still pretty positive interesting thou that 4 people said they wouldn`t buy it at time of typing, interesting thou a lot of people here are putting negative comments. Like applejaxc the delay has effected peoples opinion of the game but I feel if the game stands on its own merit as a good game people will always buy it

I am a avid follower of Dayz:SA I read all posts here and on reddit, below is a quote from a question on reddit by someone about state of melee, below is what rocket said. source Had a quick look to see if anyone has posted this on these forums, (well I checked general forum). This is a lot more that I expected from standalone, even in its initial state, so thought I would see what people think of it here and got any thoughts on what he covered. I`ll start ;-) It all sounds very impressive, i really like the way hits on different body parts cause different effects. I doubt we will be able to chop limbs off (a man can dream, hopefully in future), the basics are there thou. So this got me wondering, melee weapons must have a different attributes for damage they cause, a knife will do less damage than an axe depending where you hit etc.. So in this new inventory systems I wonder how many stats each item has :- 1. Impact strength, how much weight is behind a blow 2. durability, how well made it is (see this all ready from dev blogs regarding clothes) 3. Speed, comparing a knife to an axe Then I got thinking, if you used a lot of melee in real life you would naturally get stronger and more efficient at it so your character in game would have better chance of doing a more clean kill. Say everyone starts at 0 for melee blunt weapons 0 and slash damage 0, you kill 10 zombies with a blunt weapon this increases your melee by 1 and blunt weapons by 1, this makes it a % increase of damage done with that type of weapon. Only a small % increase so the longer you survive in the game the more adapt your character is and you make more of an attachment to him/her. Of course this brought me how about maintain the weapon, for cutting weapons you can find sharpening tools and like melee as you become better at keeping your weapon in good working order you become more adapt at repairing them. You can also modify your weapons with various add ons depending what they are to increase their damage nails etc.. Yup I have played dead island and I thought the melee in it was pretty good, so would be interesting where they head on this. thoughts?

    lol, how many aliens did that axe kill eh eh EH, crowbar was freemans weapon of choice and he saved the world without saying a word!!! then again speaking of bow hubba hubba or a crossbow. Would love to make my own bow in SA, with made arrows now that would be cool!! walking dead anyone !! love that show makes me want the game more thou dammit!!

  13. I can`t really agree with this statement, a game flops if its rubbish. Time, while annoying, is not the main reason a game will not sell, I have been following closely all the information about the game since Dec, like you am disappointed it has not come out. I think, from what I have read, rocket is just trying to have a stable base build of the game make sure the following work :- 1. A stable server. 2. The basics of the inventory are in and working, 3. Net code as bug free as they can make it. etc.. The game must be reasonably stable, yes it will have bugs and will need development over the coming months after release. The foundation needs to be there so anyone can purchase the game (which will be covered in warnings about it being alpha) understand that is very early in its development but can see the basics are working. I plan to buy it as soon as it comes out, in your case just wait a month and see what happens I am sure the internet will be covered with reviews of it and you can make your own judgement then. Hopefully when the product is released we will be able to see the fruits of the dayz:sa team and see this delay was to the make the game we all hoped it could be, fingers crossed eh!!
  14. Intesting detailed interview, got a few good points out of it and looking forward to getting my hands on crafting. Soon my friends this game will be in our hands and I hope to be in te first batch to say I was there from the start of stand alone. On another note smasht = legend, it doesn't get said enough but typing these interviews out makes life so much easier, you sir will always have my beans.

    I doubt anyone in dayz dev team or BI are that worried, rocket for example would be quite keen for only a limited number of people playing at the start (he has said this a few times, prob with a limited release of alpha). If the game is good, people will play it no matter when it realised, the people who are saying lost interest in the game, taking too long etc.. Most of these people will buy the game after they have seen reviews and comments about it, they may wait to its goes out of alpha. Does it effect sales, not really, you make a superb game people will buy it. Make it a s*it game and people will not buy it, then we can overload the forums with negativity ;-). Oh yeah small note amazing how many people who don`t care about the game still read the forums and post innit!! The points people have made about the dev blogs, I think they do have a case, I just think they are so busy working on the game they don`t get chance to put a good blog together each week. Matt and rocket have both said they work early hours to get each dev blog done, heck rocket did one halfway up Everest and people still not happy ;-). I do think he regrets saying weekly blog thou, I bet he didn`t realise how much time it takes to do each one but were near June so fingers crossed etc... Oh yeah don`t start watching the walking dead, I started watching it to get a zombie fix and makes me crave the bloody game even more SIGH
  16. On the subject of player count, I feel (as long as performance issues are handled) that doubling the amount of people able to a server is good plan. If you compare to original mod, which has refreshed people's interest in a more hardcore type of game. Most servers were a max of 50, which was fine then because you could clear a small village or town in 10 mins ish due to the lack of enter-able buildings. Now each town will have almost all buildings enter-able so people will have have to hang around more, search each building look for that gun or other weapon. This means the big cities will take a long time to clear taking account zombie dodging and of course carefully avoiding other players. With the new area's being placed up north and hopefully the more varied loot spawns, this will actually make the map much bigger. Maybe not in running from one end to the other but the amount of searching needed to be done will make you lurk in area's you never did before. Also judging from the vids we have seen and dev blogs we have all read, surviving will be harder then it was in the mod. You will need to have more medical supplies, clothing will have a much greater need due to the pockets and things. I personally can`t wait to get my hands on the game and see what the team have done with crafting and how things will work. So I hope they do try to get more people for the server with the changes made I think it will make sense, I see Fraggle and Katana67 points but I think the more people is now possible due to all map changes. Like they have both stated meeting people was rare and scary, which we need to keep in the game for the tension but I reckon 100 will possibly keep everyone happy. Then again lets see what happens when the game comes out ;-)
  17. And I thought you were taking the pish, nope that really is in their forums. I`m still surprised its still being played, anyways back on topic. Not much info just clarification on where they are at with key things, have to admit I admire rocket's dedication to keep working and posting while he is taking on his climbing challenge. Looking forward to this game more and more, I like they are now at the stage where he can say there is only one thing stopping us getting our mitts on the alpha and thats the MMO bit (no doubt the hardest and toughest challenge in SA). Hopefully by June they will be at the stage when they can do a limited release and it will be mad scramble for the first keys. Most excited about crafting currently and all the options that brings up and loads of new places to explore and enter-able buildings (why i stopped playing the mod). Just read they have brought some code so its possible to create radio stations, which i`m thinking if you follow logic, they need power.....how do we power stuff can`t wait to see what they come up with in coming months. When power is entered into the mix, loads of different options, there maybe a slight movement in my trousers!!!!!!!!

  20. Cheers for responses lot of interesting views.. I like to see the passion the mod has created and even thou its been months since the December deadline, most people will still buy the game. I started the poll to just get a rough idea on how many people have decided that due to the delay what are the fans position on buying it. Yeah I am not huge reddit fan I think the site is a bit ugly and not particular nice to use, but I shall have a look at the poll on there, @chabowski yeah I should have said to the changes to from going to simpleish update of mod to full blown mmo style, which was the right move but reading comments ppl say problems so it just was easier to phrase question like that.

Dude a trip to Everest not really a holiday and its part of a contract he has so has to go for breaching contract. you have too book a place in advance so it's not like he is popping to Hawaii with matt and skipping along the beach for a month ( picture it ppl). It's kind of once in a lifetime thing and the project will continue without him, under matt an co.
  23. June eh, we'll at least that's a target and I presume he may have more info at GDC, but at least guys and gals we can start putting a date in the calendar and THE COUNTDOWN IS ON. I agree with the whole Everest thing, if it was going to be out before dean left then it would have to be out by now, so I am not surprised. Hopefully this will be game we all know it could be and I didn't realise they were so many ppl working on it. COOL

    DayZ Developer Blog 8th March

    Just a thought maybe this weeks dev blog will be the presentation he does at GDC, if its going to be recorded then he doesn't get all the fallout about the editing. We get some juicy info on SA and rocket an matt don't have to please the masses with there editing chops. And I think the most important thing needs to be addressed matt needs a nickname, dean has rocket matt has............. Lets help forum ppl
