  1. Look no further. If you're new to the game or an experience played it doesnt matter - you will absolutely love this server. UMBRELLA CORPORATION 300+ VEHICLES SERVER. It has the perfect amount of vehicle spawns (not easy to find one, but you also wont have to run around for hours either) including a few helicopters (which make for awesome player to player encounters. Its epic). The weapon spawns are higher than normal but you're not going to play for 20min and find 10 DMRs in every building you check. Its a perfect balance of all aspects of the game. Not the normal annoying ass players you find in most server too. This one is filled with nothing but cool, chill guys (even the bandits). Note - this IS NOT my server. I just play on it and am spreading the word because the only thing we are missing right now is a few extra players to help keep things interesting. Check it out and feels free to message me in game - i'll hook you up.

    Looking for that perfect server...?

See thats how i felt about the day/night cycle too at first. But I just cant see SHIT at night. Like literally not a damn thing for some reason so I've actually grown to love the 24/7 day.

    Haha you know it bro

    Need a rival clan...

Umbrella Corporation is a 24/7 day server with 300+ cars and 30+ helicopters. Its an AWESOME server and its very easy to get geared up on (could have decent stockpile after only a few days, especially with a clan). Only problem is me and my clan mates run that place right now and are in desperate need of another clan to play again. I just dont know if any of you out there are man enough to step up and take us on. Type "umbrella" in your filter and click on the 300+ vehicle one if you are.

    Understanding KoS Mentality...

After reading yet another rant about the rampant KOS mentality currently permeating the mod, I considered a question that I have been toying with for a while now. Let me first say that I believe that the main reason so many people kill on sight is just because they're bored as hell. Once you've played the game for a while dying doesn't really mean shit, especially if you're playing with you friends. Its just not a big deal. You're essentially perma-geared which is the only real motivating factor to this game since there aren't attributes, XP or levels. So if you don't need to scavenge and if the zombies provide little entertainment because of how easy they are to deal with, then what would be the next logical step to keeping yourself entertained? Killing other players. Derp. Why Consider this though. It seems like the standalone is going to be implementing something i've long been hoping for - decreased spawn rates for loot (especially the higher end items like military weapons) and vehicles. Therefor making it much harder/more time consuming to gear up and reach "end game" and once you have finally managed to get some decent gear you would probably be pretty damn cautious about losing it. IE you probably wouldn't try to snipe some random dude just for the fun of it because he (or the newly improved zombies) might kill you. Buuuuut, it also might make people MORE likely to kill someone who is nearby under the "better safe than sorry" mentality. What do you think? I really do believe that dramatically decreasing the spawn rates and therefor making this game more about scavenging/surviving the zombies (who I also believe should pose a much higher threat to players) would be a step....no, a leap in the right direction. You should have to gradually earn your gear, not just by running around but by genuinely fighting with the zombies too. Do that and you not only increase the realism/authenticity but you continually provide players with something to do (other than killing players). We all love this game, but sometimes there really isn't much else to do besides hunt people. FOR NOW!

    Understanding KoS Mentality...

This is what I had in mind. Not necessarily making zombies the central focal point of the game, but enough of a threat so that they provide an alternative outlet/form of entertainment to PvP combat. Therefore not only decrease the amount of KoS due to boredom, but also by promoting necessary cooperation with other players.

    Understanding KoS Mentality...

Okay, listen. You obviously didn't read the post in its entirety as I already mentioned this. But what if there were other fun things to do? IE killing zombies that aren't glitchy chickens with the heads cut off. And what if working with another player could make this more fun due to the fact that it would let you fight more zombies and go places you otherwise couldnt by yourself.

    Understanding KoS Mentality...

The fresh spawn is honestly understandable to me and is something that like likely never change. But they are very easy to identify/steer clear of. End game KOSers are another story however and that was more of the aspect I was focusing on.

    Understanding KoS Mentality...

Haha I know right, sat there for 10 minutes trying to think of a catchy title (otherwise people DGAF). Will change it to something better suited to the post
  10. EDIT: New ideas as of 6/8 - please read entirely. Positive Effects of Increased Zombie Threat I was thinking earlier about potential ways to improve the DayZ SA in terms of trying to get less people KOSing and more people working together again. Soooo...One idea I keep coming back to is that a great way to accomplish this would be by providing more incentives to group with other players, rather than simply trying to decentivize the act killing other players. One way to do this could be is by increasing the threat posed by zombies. For example, in the current system zombies are kind of a joke and provide little threat to no threat for an experienced player. But if you were to increase the effectiveness of those zombies in terms of their potential lethality (not necessarily harder hitting just - "smarter" and with better pathing) , you would make it considerably harder (and in some instance very likely impossible) for a single player to clear or search a sizable town/building group by himself. Therefore making it highly beneficial to group with other people in order to gather loot where solo players could not. It would also just make being by yourself a lot scarier and harder to manage if the zombies were more dangerous. Most importantly though, you wouldn't want to engage someone in combat unless you had to because the noise would (hopefully) attract any nearby zombies towards you. With improved zombies there would be no way to fight a player while simultaneously trying to stave off a group of zombies and make you considerably more concerned about whether engaging another player is really worth wasting ammo that you now genuinely need to defend yourself from the zombies Thoughts? DISCLAIMER: This is just one bored mans opinion. Just because I disagree with an idea or two, or have a suggestion of my own does not mean that I am bashing or hating on the game we are all so anxiously awaiting. Please only respond if you have something constructive to add.

    Underground Bases....?

DISCLAIMER: Remember this is just one bored mans opinion. Just because I disagree with one potential idea does not mean I'm bashing or hating on the game I am so anxiously waiting for. Only trying to provide feedback to help better shape the SA. So is it just me or does anyone else think that the implementation of underground bases is a terrible idea? Dont get me wrong, I absolutely love the idea of being able to fortify a location and along with that I like the idea of making it hard to accomplish by yourself. Thus making player cooperation highly beneficial and therefore (hopefully) reducing the KOS mentality now held by so many. But UNDERGROUND bases? Not only is that far less visually appealing, less exciting and far more linear than above ground bases but it also makes finding any of these places or people next to impossible. IMO it would turn DayZ into a bunch of prairie dogs only popping their heads out when they need food and who rarely one another. I dunno, to me its not only boring but it would severely take away from a lot of the fun that comes from finding someone else stash house and the risk associated with not know whether your gear it truly safe. You could just go dig a whole in the forest (which is already hard enough to find hidden gear in) put you gear inside and feel safe knowing that unless someone was 10m or less they would never see it. The essence of DayZ and what makes playing it so intensely fun is that potential risk involved in losing what you've worked so hard for. Take away the risk and you remove those genuine emotions and adrenaline rush that comes with it. Which is really whats at the core of the game and why so many of us enjoy playing it. Thoughts? As it stands it seems HIGHLY LIKELY THAT THE DEV TEAM IS WORKING ON THESE UNDERGROUND BASES AS WE SPEAK. So please, if you're as strongly opposed to this idea as I am just post something - a word or two even, to help show the development team how the community feels.

Shameless bump. Keep the input coming

    MIRRORS

I agree, 3rd person just makes it to easy to "cheat peek" from cover which takes away from a lot of the realism/authenticity IMO

    Increased threat posed by zombies...

Good questions Quartermarine. I guess I didn't really explain the sort of "vision" that I had in mind when talking about increasing the threat provided by the zombies. What I was thinking was not necessarily that its hard to survive against just the zombies themselves - meaning that you could almost always simply turn and run away to survive. But making them enough of a threat so that you couldn't expect to run into a town full of them and come out with any loot unless you killed them all first. Essentially just making scavenging certain area's far more challenging than it currently is or even impossible in some circumstances depending on your group size/gear/ammo/ etc. This would also mean that you would think twice before shooting at another player (or anything for that matter) while there are zombies in the area. Basically upgrading them from the joke that they currently are, but not to the extent of say Left 4 Dead. Somewhere in the middle.
  16. So I live about 2 hours away from LA and am seriously considering driving down to E3 for the sole purpose of getting a look at the new developments and to ask Rocket a question that NO ONE has seemed to address and yet should be one of our biggest concerns (IMO at least). "What can we expect in terms of lag/desycn given all of the new changes?" I can't believe no one has asked this and it hasnt been addressed by the dev team. Currently its my #1 #2 and #3 issue with the game. Really its the only issue I have with the game, everything else would just be an much welcome and added benefit. But trying to shoot something thats lagging and skipping all over the map is nearly impossible sometimes (not to mention absolutely infuriating) and then if you finally do manage to get a hit, it's going to see about a 1-2 seconds delay before anything actually happens. In my opinion this just completely takes away from the whole realistic atmosphere that DayZ is trying to provide and would be completely unacceptable for any other pay to play game. But given how demanding DayZ is and the amount of stress it can put in servers/PC's its still a serious question in my mind. Soooo....to drive or not to drive?

    What to expect...Lag/Desync

    Thanks, hadn't seen this before.

Who Dosent Shoot Bandits On Sight?

Varies from situation to situation, which is precisely why I love this game - every encounter is different from the last. That being said, if I know I can control the situation I am very reluctant to KOS. But if, for example, i'm inside of a building or town and see a bandit skin come running around the corner it's very likely that he's going to get shot haha.

    Underground Bases....?

Draco, the pictures you posted are very interesting and if the proposed bases were similar to this it would definitely be an improvement over what I had envisioned in my mind. However the only reason I say this is because in all those picture there is a noticeable amount of above ground building material. But wouldn't this cause the same lag issues that stem from having an above ground base in the first place?

    Server-side Bottleneck...?

Let me first say - forgive my ignorance. I know very little...scratch that, I know nothing about how servers work/process/disseminate information. That being said, I remember hearing Dean say in one of the devblog videos that with the new server responsibilities (spawning loot and zombies, etc.) they were only able to achieve 30FPS. I know that part of this is simply a matter of working out all the bugs but my question is this: Is it possible considering what a demanding game Arma/DayZ is that the servers might not be able to handle the load put on them by the increased number of zombies/loot/players/graphics/etc. and that no matter how good of a rig your running, your FPS may be dependent upon how good of a server youre on? Lemme know your thoughts, I look forward to hearing from someone who actually know what they're talking about

And you have not been reading all of what we're saying. Look both ways before crossing.

    Underground Bases....?

My assumption stems from the fact that there will only be one point of entrance or choke point. Dig a hole, make a skinny tunnel and shoot anything that miraculously happens to find its way in. Their lack of visibility would make them so hard to find that its doubtful you would ever have player driven intrusions. For me the "safe zone" aspect is definitely the biggest reason for my opposition to the idea but its also definitely not the only reason why.
