    Creaking sounds with doors

Just had the idea of adding sounds to doors. Especially the big metal gates and doors should produce creaking sounds when operated. Like those random metal gate sounds you tend to hear near villages. Situation 1... you are in the firestation tower, looting away. You hear the creaking sound of the doors below (which you thoroughly closed behind you) and you know someone´s coming. Situation 2... you see someone in the firestation looting away, but all the doors are closed. You know that operating the door would produce a noticable sound, so you quickly apply some oil to the hinges to reduce the sound.

    Creaking sounds with doors

Yeah, true. It is like trying to open a hangar door silently by greasing the slide with butter. :)

    Tips for better situational awareness?

There is another aspect... there is a point in the game, when you just don´t care about the game mechanics anymore and moving around in Chernarus is nothing to deeply worry about. You will notice when reaching this stage of gameplay, your brain will start to focus on those things I described above. It´s like achieving a certain skill degree in martial arts. When you don´t need to think about your action anymore, your brain focuses on more important things. And as I said, all other tipps in this thread are great and helpful and definately to consider. But still they are a little bit off topic, I assume.

    Tips for better situational awareness?

To be honest... all of the tipps from above are fine for playing the game and learning the game. Situational awareness is not about gearing up and learning how to survive. It's about judging your close surroundings, which is: judging and predicting movements, accomplishing great team work with your mates (which is not done easily), judging a situation before entering the fray, judging other players in regard of their behaviour and gear... etc But the only way to get some kind of situational awareness (which is kinda fake compared to real situational awareness) is the following. play. die. play. die. play. die. play. play. play. die. play. play. play. play. play. play. die. play. play. play. play. play. play. play. play. play. play. That's basicly it. Play more and you will get better in judging your surroundings.

    Creaking sounds with doors

Bolting doors would be nice as well. Not the garages, not the gates... the doors of residential structures. A bolted door can be smashed in with 3-4 strong kicks, with a chance of hurting the kicker per kick. Using an axe would be safer... shooting the lock could be possible as well. That would require doors to be destructable objects... dunno if this is done easily with this engine. Ah, the ideas and opportunities. :D

    Creaking sounds with doors

This also applies to opening/closing carwrecks, looting a body (not creaking, duh), maybe even picking up stuff like cans, tools, metal stuff. Opening/closing full ammo boxes, opening/closing protective containers (plastic thudd-sound)... and the list goes on and on. Maybe it´s because I´m a sound guy. And a "Joooooeeeee!!!"-yell, everytime you shoot someone.

Can this computer run DayZ on high? Please Answer

I run on i5 2500k 8 GB DDR3 770 GTX 4 GB @ full HD SSD Everything's smooth here on fully maxed out settings. I get around 50 FPS in the wilderness and 30 FPS in Cherno... Still, getting good FPSes on this engine can be some kind of gamble. With my hardware, FPS and overall smoothness of the game depends alot on the server performance. In general... a high-end gfx card helps alot. Everything above GTX 6XX should boost your game perfomance significantly.
  9. Am I missing some irony ore meme here?

    New Player Story

    1. Maybe, maybe not. Maybe he just closed the door behind him to lure you in, which is a common tactic. 2. Given to the fact that you have been shot before, you´re lucky that you survived that blow. And... well... a blow from an axe is quite painful and might send you unconscious in real life, wouldn´t it? :) 3. Well... I´d say no. I play as very outgoing and communicative since the mod started and I haven´t regretted it, yet. Despite of the fact that you get shot in face from time to time for no reason at all. But thats part of the game. Don´t get attached to your gear, you´ll lose it anyways soon. And gearing up as a fresh spawn is a nice and refreshing experience after running around wearing the same sticky pants for 3 weeks. Oh... and welcome to Chernarus. Enjoy your stay. :)

    Game is completely bugged

Here... have a set of punctuations. . : , ! ? But use them wisely. That'll help you communicating in the forums.

    Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.34.115106

Yeah, me too... on logging in. Maybe a broken sound resource for that reloading sound. Strangly enough, my mate didnt get that broken sound.

    Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.34.115106

Strange... I have no issues at all with lag. Rain or sunshine, loaded server or empty server... same WIP-lag... some framedrops when it is starting to rain, but thats client-side, because I have a shitty gfx card. Maybe Im a lucky pig.

    Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.33.114926

Oh, I had this after the last patch... and then I realized, that the patch changed my gfx settings back to default
  15. Uhhhh... I like! *rainbowpowerbeam*
  16. Thanks for pointing out. In your OP I read it as "wow those guys didn´t keep their systems up to date and now we´re all screwed". And hey... I maybe awesome enough to keep a single server away from harm but managing hundreds is truely like herding cats. I don´t envy the admins in my company. Just for the tech-pr0n. How big is the database right now at its current state?
  17. Now I got "rocketed"! :) Thanks for your reply. I really appreciate you taking your time to vent on my stupid rant! I'm totaly aware, that you are taking A LOT of effort in making it happen! The "not being rocket sience" was related to running a dedicated hardware server on a up to date os and hosting a DayZ instance, not to put up a complex architecture to connect to like you guys do. And I actually know what it means to work overtime to get shit done, because people are whining. Sorry for being unclear there and sorry for whining myself. This hive-connecting-issue is, as you pointed out, related to server-OSses not being up to date most of the time. Isn´t that all about unaware server-hosters, who are supposed keep servers up to date? Seems this is backfiring now a little bit. So back to work now for me. We have a deadline to meet and people are starting to whine about it. ;) Cheers.
  18. Wow... so many servers... and so much derping around. I´ve been hosting ARMA2 servers for quite a while now and I´m deeply saddend, that private people are not allowed to host public hive servers. We have a beastly machine here, waiting for some shitload of work and it almost idles with serveral Dayz Mods and Contagion instances. I know, Rocket, you may not be reading this and if you read this, you´d be switchting to ignore mode... there is no rocket (ha!) science behind this server stuff... so PLEASE, let us put up public hives on dedicated servers. Please. I contacted BI about this matter, asking for the reasoning behind this move, unsuprisingly no answer...

    Panic Logging...

... I have to get this off my chest. Combat logging, or panic logging as I like to call it, should really be the next thing to be fixed. And fast. It simply breaks the the game at the moment. There is almost zero interaction between players right now, except of shooting-from-ambush-one-shot-kills. Most players just log off as soon as they see other players. I run along the coast as a fresh spawn. I raise my hand to high-five. Player panic logs. Yesterday we decided to be dicks and camp the north east airstrip, waited for quite a while, four guys trample along, not even trying to be sneaky and carefull. As soon as we open fire from 300 m with our shitty Mosins, all of them combat log instantly, even with hardcover just meters away. And the story count goes on and on. Breaks the game... :( I hope this gets fixed very soon. (and I´m confident it will)

    Panic Logging...

Most simple, less flexible solution. But it would be a quick fix.

    Panic Logging...

Hmm... dunno. Is there a way to tell a Alt-F4 from a crashing application? Sometimes you just have to Alt-F4 or kill the game via the Task Manager. So I'd rather not promote that.

    Panic Logging...

Combat/Panic/Pussy Logging... well I regard it as extremely dishonourable and lazy. When we camped NEAF and got shot at, my mates logged instantly and I got really mad at them. What we need: 1. A general 10 sec logoff timer, whatsoever 2. 30 sec logoff timer after player fired shot/entered meelee 3. 1 min logoff timer after being shot at, determined by a 30-50 m bubble around impact of bullet. Since all of this is now determined server-side, implementation should be no problem. Dedicating time to implement it is a mere project planning issue. But as I pointed out in the OP, I have no doubt that this will be fixed soontm.

    DayZ Mod 1.8.0.3 Hotfix.

I dont think this was a glitch. Maybe a chopper went overhead earlier and the zombies just converged to it. I had a similar experience once at night, when a friend and me spotted a helicrashsite from a chopper, landed about 150 m away and started looting it. I had NVGs, my friend was basicly in starter gear. I was so immersed in the looting process, that I didnt pay attention to the zombie horde that slowly closed in from the nearby village that we flew over to land at the crashsite. So I told my friend to call it a day and retreat to our chopper... but for gods sake... dont run. DONT RUN! He asked why, I answered to tell him later. So we crouched walked back to the heli. Before getting in, I told him to switch on his torch light and slowly turn to the right. He did and was like "WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!!!" About 40 zombies where staggaring in our direction. Scary. Really scary.
