Building a base always resulted in frustration for me. Sooner or later it would get raided, whatsoever. Even if the game stated that it was impossible, with locks, gates and barriers. Some git would come around and find a way. Better to scatter some well hidden tents around the map, maybe 5 or 6. They will be discovered eventually, so you switch to your fallback. I even set up obvious honeypots, so the real deal nearby was overlooked. I heavily relied on this strategy in the old mod days and it never failed me.

Modding is what made this game so big. It's a two sided coin, though. Positive new content new game mechanics boost in player influx keeps the old player base busy offloads a lot of work on the community Negative dumbed down servers donation perks (p2win) watering down of the original experience If DayZ SA wants to live, it has to open up for modding. Or it will continue on its long painful way down to dying a slow death, as it is right now. takes cover for incoming fanboi flak

Tried 0.60 after a long time away from DayZ
taikonaut replied to Evilsausage's topic in General Discussion
Same here... I've completely lost my interest in DayZ SA almost a year ago, moving on to Arma3 and its great mods. For me, 0.6 was somewhat disappointing. I've played my fair share on 0.6. I met one single zombie, whacked its head in with a garden hoe and continued looting for 3 days, ad nauseam, without anything interesting happening. I went on a higher populated server, got Bambi-KOSed 10 times that night, shrugged with a sad face, logged off and played Arma3 King of the Hill, where KOSing a bambi ist part of the business. FPS is better, but the game is not, really. At least we have dx11 and the game now looks like from 2010 now. Whoopdeedoo. Ach, to be honest, graphic fidelity is still sub-par and I doubt it will increase substantially in the next two years, when DayZ finally hits "Beta". -
Hey, I´m a bit confused. Out of nothing, players can't connect to my server anymore. I literally changed nothing in the last couple of weeks, since the server was running very stable and smooth. RPT log says there is an error in the server_monitor.sqf: 15:34:09 Error in expression <; }; }; } forEach _inventory; { if (_x == "Maintenance") then { _object setVari> 15:34:09 Error position: <== "Maintenance") then { _object setVari> 15:34:09 Error ==: Type Array, expected Number,String,Object,Side,Group,Text,Config entry,Display (dialog),Control,Team member,Task,Location 15:34:09 File z\addons\dayz_server\system\server_monitor.sqf, line 207 and upon player connecting 15:35:41 "get: STRING (xxx), sent: STRING (xxx)" 15:35:41 "Player UID#xxx CID#? PID#3(misioo) as Survivor1_DZ, logged off at Wilderness [-187:-104]" 15:35:41 "ERROR: Cannot Sync Character misioo as no characterID" I did NOT change a single thing on the server, not even on the machine itself. "Have you tried turning it off and on again?" -- yes.

No one gets banned without a reason. Especially when suspicious of using scripts. And I can tell you, logfiles don´t lie. And yes, if there is absolutely NO doubt in a case, we server owners share information about bans. Still, there are often discussions about questionable or or unclear logs often leading to unbanning. See, cheating is rampant on Arma2 servers and the server owners (including me) put a lot of effort and money in running the infrastructure for the community. Still, there are a strange people taking a huge dump and getting a fix from destroying the sandcastles of the other kids on the playground, even sometimes destroying the playground itself. I don´t say, that you did that, but especially the owners of the more popular servers get nuked several times a week and have to put up a lot of work to keep it all up, so skins are quite thin in this matter and the understandable policy is ban first, ask later. Be nice, make your point, and if your point is legit I bet you will be unbanned. btw... calling them morons on the official DayZ Mod forums, which all admins follow quite closely, is quite a daft move. Maybe you should try a different game after all.

Since this is not a forum about Epoch, I assume that OP's question is about DayZ Mod... So, yes, you need the DIY manual and some rough stones for a start. You can build a fence foundation from it. Next steps basically need wood, planks, nails.

Hmm. Just yesterday I did an completely clean install of Arma2OA and DayZMod via Steam and fired it up with no issues at all. *shrugs*
-
Oh yeah, I didn´t think about that. Works great.
-
I do it occasionally with Xsplit and dxtory. Absolutely no problems. *shrugs*

Why are we discussing 3rd party scripts in this thread about the Vanilla 1.8.6.1 release...? Just asking.
-
Hey, after restart it takes a really long time for my server to show up in the ingame server list. Filtering doesn´t help. Connecting via IP and port is fine. This is only since a few days now. Does anyone experience this as well?

My logfile is spammed with the follwing: 19:24:34 "DEBUG: needUpdate_objects=[26f83040# 1063115: old_bike.p3d]"19:24:34 "HIVE: WRITE: "CHILD:306:67100:[["sklo predni P",0],["sklo predni L",0],["karoserie",0],["palivo",0],["wheel_1_damper",0],["wheel_2_damper",0],["motor",0]]:0.00154478:""19:24:34 "HIVE: WRITE: "CHILD:306:67100:[["sklo predni P",0],["sklo predni L",0],["karoserie",0],["palivo",0],["wheel_1_damper",0],["wheel_2_damper",0],["motor",0]]:0:""Players are complaining about rubberbanding, laggy actions etc... Any ideas what this log might be? Update: I deleted the bike with the UID 67100 from the object_data table. Seems to be kind of ok now. Now it´s: 21:42:52 "DEBUG: needUpdate_objects=[2a75b040# 1063240: mi_8mt.p3d]"... but not in heavily spamming manor.

Any hints/tips for a new Mod player?

How Often Do You Meet Survivors?
taikonaut replied to The Vampire Lestat's topic in New Player Discussion
Well, ask yourself... what is DayZ all about? DayZ is not CS:GO, and certainly not meeting people around every corner. DayZ is all about the lack of food and water, lack of resources and lack of social interaction. Which makes the event of lucky loot or meeting another player or even a group a heart pounding experience. Don´t fall for the impression that youtubers give you from the game. They tend to hang around the hot spots of the map, forcing interaction to make their business (streaming and Lets plays) more appealing to the viewer. Some of them even get geared up by the server owners so they play on their server. We play on full 50 player servers and tend to keep away from the hotspots and we rarely have any interaction with other groups. So we survive and have a great time. Getting into a firefight with a 3 week old char is scary as shit and will blow your mind (and brain, occasionally), which makes the experience even more intense. Keep away from hotspots, keep out of trouble and you will live. Go to Cherno, find a meelee and whack people. You can play DayZ like this, but you´ll miss the point of the game completely. -
Any hints/tips for a new Mod player?
taikonaut replied to cheeseburger8's topic in New Player Discussion
If you like CS:GO, play Overpoch. If you like survival and social drama, get on a vanilla server, or a server that is close to vanilla. Pro-tipp... active, mature and friendly admins are the key to a great gaming experience.
