Has anyone tried to start a group of friendlies? to combat KOS players?
autoloon replied to lord3n's topic in General Discussion
The difficulty of remaining unseen increases severely - almost exponentially - with each additional person to a group. With that in mind: 1 well positioned (and skilled) player >>>>>>>> a squad of - let's say - five players of mixed skill level maintaining a high profile in a large city. A single sniper can wreak havoc on a small crew merely by understanding zeroing and displacing along a tree line. So no, I have not formed lasting bonds, only brief, peaceful encounters. When I help people, I do it with a long reach, or in a way that involves leaving. When I team up, I do so with only one other person, and for the most part we work separately while staying in communication. I would never, ever agree to meet up with more than one player I didn't know IRL. -
Why can't I reliad 5.56 20 round CMAG with 5.56 20 rounds?

You should just unpack the bullets and toss the empty mags. If you can't solve your problem with three mags, I wouldn't count on another two sealing the deal :D -
My weirdest/creepiest/loneliest life in DayZ ever.
autoloon replied to autoloon's topic in General Discussion
Have you found any M4 attachments? I am having a heck of a time finding anything. I've only killed one guy so far since launch and left his loot for a friendly unarmed player, but from streams and LPs it seems the only way to find rare attachments is to kill a server hopper basically. -
Me and my friends left Dayz fully geared.. Came back everyone reseted

there is no rhyme or reason. this game is alpha and you should never get attached to your gear. -
I am honestly very disappointed by some of the reactions to many of the very exciting ideas being put forth in this game. I must be honest and say that I sincerely hope the players who are now arguing for the total removal of the complex medical system being developed can only tolerate a few more hours of it before quitting forever. The essence of DayZ is disorientation. Most of us have clocked countless hours on the mod and can find our way around Chernarus pretty easily by now. With the standalone, the disorientation is internalized, and the map has changed, though the terrain remains the same. Even players familiar with Chernarus must take great care in plotting their course or face a near certain death if not prepared for basic needs. My view is that the game should try to kill you a lot. I am optimistic about the game because I am dying quite a lot, though I have played at least 80 hours of the mod. I found myself in Chernarus because DayZ looked like a logical step up in difficulty from Dark Souls. I enjoy difficult and uniquely challenging games and DayZ is a game that is targeted towards gamers who share that streak of masochism. If the players calling for removal or nerfing of the medical system bothered to check out some of the games Rocket raves about on a regular basis, they would see that they are fighting for a lost cause, and that their cries will only fall on deaf ears. Stay healthy, bambis.

This game should be prohibitively difficult.
autoloon replied to autoloon's topic in General Discussion
Wake up! DayZ is an indie game. It is marketed as such, and not to mention it is born from a mod for a PC military sim! Grossing nearly 6 million dollars at launch is incredible. Gutting an engine and overhauling an existing map with a small team cost 1 million at best in the past year. DayZ has likely already been profitable for BI. -

"CoD kids" been around awhile now. Every private hive is called "10000000000000 vehicles starting AS50 self bloodbag." So, there's that. I don't care that they exist, they just need to keep their noses out of vanilla talk. -

I think I might not have been as clear as I thought about that. What I meant by that comment isn't that the map is less familiar, but that you can't simply plot course in the same heavy handed way as before. Travel used to be end point oriented, now it's waypoint oriented by necessity. Holding W and watching Netflix is no longer as viable. -
My main point on the subject is that if I were developing a game, I would want all the nasties to come out during the alpha so I could have everything neatly locked down for the final release. If people aren't in there doing these things, then these issues would not be resolved and could crop up and be harder to fix after the game is in its final build. I guess I am saying that some people are being too quick to vilify other players based on behaviors carried over from the mod, where the reality is that we should be waiting until at least the beta to vilify anyone besides scripters and hackers.

Hmmmmm.... In my post I beg pardon for my presumption, and make sure to mention I am not abusing these things, since I am genuinely unsure what the attitude of the developers are. Look at forums to see accusatory reply insisting that I am a detriment to other players. lulz

Server hopping should be legitimate through the alpha. This isn't a game, it's a buggy framework. Server hopping for loot actually assists bug testing the items and highlighting that it's a balance issue that needs consideration. Implementing a new system to keep abuse in check should be shelved until the beta, in my opinion. With frequent character wipes and death by glitch, it's going to be an ongoing challenge to test new mechanics as loot will be frequently lost. Playing legit, I have yet to explore even 1/10 of the new inventory mechanics, and to be honest there is not really a lot there at the moment. As testers, not players, server hopping for loot should be forgivable until the game is in a more stable state. Combat logging remains a total dick move, and has no valid application for testing. I might be presuming a bit much since this is my first Alpha, but I am under the impression the goal of the Alpha is to break the game as much as possible so the developers know what needs fixing.

The hive system for the mod ended up being very broken because of server hopping. Players could camp barracks or large clearings for heli spawns and with virtually no effort amass an arsenal of the rarest weapons as well as infinite supplies. I am personally not opposed to the hive system and server hopping being possible in the standalone throughout the alpha, but it is my hope a redesign comes to fruition by the time the game enters beta. I have two ideas that could pretty handily curb the problem. One is very simple and the other sounds simple but is probably a lot more complicated. 1. Simply divide the total number of servers by an arbitrary number, sort by region and implement 'micro-hives.' If there are only 5-10 servers on which you can use the same character, the challenge of server hopping increases. The added benefit of this option is that players could maintain a number of characters across various hives. 2. A complicated timer system that kills any character that logs into X different servers in Y amount of minutes. There isn't really a legitimate reason for this pattern to occur, so even a very broad stroke would eliminate a significant chunk of the abuse. What's everyone's opinion on hopping?

I have noticed a correlation between the lapses in frame rate and changing hunger/thirst/energy. Specifically, when "I am feeling thirsty" becomes "I really need a drink," the server/client communication seems to take a big dump.

Whats the real difference from the mod? You opinions please
autoloon replied to auge103's topic in General Discussion
5 second load times, smooth and responsive controls that are better in some ways than Arma 3 and worse in some ways. It's vanilla. I like vanilla. If I wanted TDM I would play something else. No vehicles. Zombies are sometimes a non-issue. Other times they are instantly fatal. It's very inconsistent. The server-side inventory management causes a sometimes irritating lag before your inventory loads in game. -
Do you think when Rocket got the green light BI just gave him the keys to the entire Arma 3 team? Seems pretty untenable. Rocket would have realistically had his pick of one or a few people to join the project, and would subsequently have to work within a budget to fulfill his personnel needs by making new hires. Now that a stable Alpher is underway, and proof of concept established, BI may be able to divert more resources to the project as Arma 3's development cycle begins to wind down. Also something to consider is that development for DayZ is probably very specialized compared to say, Arma 3. For example, when Arma 3 campaign is fully released, that would free up a huge team of scenario editors, etc. from BI, absolutely none of whom would have any use developing the standalone because there aren't any scenarios to work out.

I was looting the barracks at Balota and noticed a closed door had become open. Inside was a man with an axe, bleeding profusely. I was going to see if he was friendly and offer some assistance, but saw through the window that he had found some bandages. After he had vacated the barracks, I proceeded eastward along the fence opposite his direction. On the runway was another player who was unarmed. I decided to make contact with the unarmed player instead of retreating back towards the axe man. He asked me to please not shoot him and warned me of a player with a pistol in the ATC tower. I wished him luck, but as we were about to part ways, a player with a rifle appeared to be looting a corpse by a military tent. I covered the unarmed player as he approached the man looting. He did not sound friendly, so I advanced to the sandbags with my weapon out, but still lowered. He offered my unarmed friend the loot from the corpse, but then threatened to kill him and me only moments later, and admitted to killing the man with the axe, who was no threat to anyone. The unhinged killer ordered me to walk towards the Hangars or be shot in the face. I amicably agreed, and made my cautious advance towards seriously advantageous cover. He was obviously very smart, and had thought this through. I had a brief debate about what I should do next. Ultimately, I decided that the murderer was still a threat to my new unarmed friend, so I placed a few well aimed shots on target, and down he went, leaving two inventories worth of gear, already neatly sorted by the murderer, for the kind soul who warned me of danger.

Note: In my shirt there is another 20rd mag of 5.56 and some food and drink.

I rarely ever use vehicles in the mod. My singular goal is to stay alive. Being in possession of a vehicle for longer than a short period of time has only caused me grief in the end.

Have you actually had a dream of DayZ?
autoloon replied to Michaelvoodoo25's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't dream in-game, but I have had one or two dreams where the zombie issue was a factor in real life, and I came to be a dependable person in that situation to those around me, more or less because of my experience with the game. Even then, it wasn't so much anything to do with zombies so much as it was teaching civilians about staying in defilade and ranging targets and things like that. -
Rust looks kinda fun I guess. Thing is, it doesn't run on ARMA so like State of Decay, The War Z and others it will be casual fest to the max and easy mode for anyone who has played the genuine article. I like the survival genre and think developers should add more games to it. I don't think they all need to copy DayZ and certainly don't feel they all need to be zombie games. Miasmata, for example. Not the best, but at least not blatant thievery.

Lee Enfield is the best all around bandit gun. They're everywhere, and it's not a big deal if things don't go your way. At any rate, when I bandit for loot I go full civilian. Once I have military gear, I take fewer risks in general.
-
It's all a matter of convenience for me. If I am in need of supplies and you walk by with a fat bag and a big gun, it's a lot more convenient and less risky to shoot some guy than it is to go running around in Cherno looking to get killed.
-
from what I've seen Rocket hint about the blood/health system, my guess would be a sort of system where a blood bag is no longer single use, perhaps the bag is empty, needs to be cleaned to minimize infection risk, needs fresh living blood per each use, etc. He mentioned forced blood transfusions in a recent tweet. this leads me to believe it will be possible to take blood from someone who is knocked out, which would be a great addition. if player blood is needed, i am very interested to see how the blood donor is affected from the transfusion, and how players might trick each other into accepting infected blood, and if there would be any delay to that sort of realization.

Do You Regret Anything You Have Done In DayZ?
autoloon replied to Devon206 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I had intel there was a main rotor assembly in clan-controlled cherno, so I made my way there for a daring night time raid of the industrial area. i had very limited supplies and was not prepared to handle a fire fight with geared bandits. also, i had to reach berezino before server restart to meet up with my partner so we could fix the heli he had found. after obtaining the rotor, an unarmed survivor showed up and started talking to me in direct while we were both out in the open. i told him to get out of direct and that the city was occupied by a clan, so we might be heard. the dude kept talking about teaming up and all that, and i started really stressing about my mission and feeling lots of little bandit eyes peering out over the city. I plugged the guy in the torso with my Lee Enfield and bugged out of Cherno. I forget what exactly he said, but the guy's reaction to his situation made me feel immediately guilty for what I had done. It wasn't just that I had shot an unarmed player, it was more that I had put weight on the decision (having survived 5 days without a murder or bandit kill) and after measured consideration, put one in his belly and took off down the road. -
There won't be vehicles in the Alpha, so they should make some vehicles so we can have vehicles while we wait for the vehicles. *head explodes*
