ITT: I share my secret loot spot

I created this topic as a helpful tip. It is hostile and accusatory responses from people such as yourself that generated an argument about PvP, and now, server hopping. I have been playing games for almost 25 years. If gamers these days want to rob themselves of the entire experience of playing a game, then that is their choice to make and I can only firmly disagree with it. I play this game for the immersion, and for the journey, and for the unique interactions that happen. Your response to my simply helpful topic is atrocious and poisonous. There is really nothing more to say.

ITT: I share my secret loot spot

This topic was meant to dispel the myth that the apartment complexes aren't worth visiting just because loot does not spawn in the actual apartments yet, and not to start a debate about PvP.

sry but you won't be doing much surviving with that attitude towards PvP. You can turn your nose up and say 'next' like a smug loser but I'll bet your rifle will be as useless as your can opener when someone decides to take both from you.
  4. Our storm of soldiers without guns grew to 7 between Cherno and Balota. By sheer volume, we intended to take anything we felt was rightfully ours. However low we sunk in our pursuits, we always offered our victims one chance to join us. We saw an armed player arrive at Balota and we extended our hand in friendship. The coward hid in the grass and began firing his weapon frantically at the mass of us standing in front of the barracks. Only one of us fell. I was hit, and survived. He logged before we could finish him off. That was his story.

How not to Rage losing a fully equipted character

Once you are geared up, you are just a loot bag...a man looking for a bullet. I actually get some enjoyment out of being a trophy buck to someone. Also, the best interactions happen when you are not in full paranoia mode.
  6. So to top off the list of weirdness the game spawns me in Stary, which is new to me. I am spawned face to face with a nasty female zombie, who I have to punch to the ground the moment I spawn in order to run away and bandage. I am in Stary, so I assume my meaningless death by gunshot is imminent. But there is no one in Stary. Not a soul but these shambling husks. I investigate the town and procure what I can, but any military presence seems to have evacuated the area... I navigate my way to Vybor from memory, and find some bullets for the Mosin I found. Now to the airbase, and great danger, right? In three different half hour sessions over the course of two days, I did a full, cautious loop of the NW airfield, on at least two different full day time servers. There was not a single person around, or any evidence that anyone had ever been there. I made my way back to Vybor without incident, and earned a handsome bounty of gear on my first trip north. But I've become convinced there aren't any people north of Zub in SA. Seriously, where is everyone? It's lonely up here.

That is quite an impressive number that makes for a very Merry Christmas for all at BI. My hope for the new year is that attention has been paid and resources will be allocated accordingly. Happy holidays to all, and thank you truly to everyone concerned in the development of this incredible game. Rocket, I forgive you for killing me.

  9. The only other song I would pick would be "Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima" by Krzysztof Penderecki, otherwise known as "that music from The Shining."

BI is not a scam lol and they aren't taking your money and running anywhere or investing it in other games. If anything, government contracts related to their VBS series of military simulators pays for all the subsequent commercial games adapted from their engine.
  11. Hello again. I am genuinely beginning to believe my client is bugged. I have now played my current character for over 4 hours on populated servers without encountering so much as a single player. I spawned in Stary as I said. Did a full loop of NWAF, then hit the new Vybor military base. I continued south and looted all three new Cherno apartment complexes, and their respective hospitals, offices and grocery stores. Up until this point, I was not even suspicious of any bugs or weirdness. However, when I arrived at Balota on a 38/40 server to find no activity whatsoever, I began to feel something was wrong. If everyone is not at Balota, where are they? Either I am just really lucky (or unlucky as I am recording this and trying to make it entertaining) or something is up. I really don't know what to do short of arranging a meet with someone. If I try to hop around Balota, I could lose my gear to server change bug, and of course I will be hopping servers so people will naturally think I am hopping servers and KoS. I thought everyone was at Balota all the time. Is everyone up at the shipwreck now? Zelenogorsk? Seriously, my DayZ guy is ls beginning to talk to his gun like he is Tom Hanks in Cast Away. Please offer me some suggestions for what to do!

    Don't worry

when I lost both my former Mosin and my potential new M4 by accident, neither reappeared in 10 minutes time. A few minutes later on the same server, my medkit disappeared but reappeared within 1 minute. I get that you're trying to be helpful, but a lot of these issues are not exactly consistent.

    M4 test, (video)

Could the inaccuracy problems have anything to do with how the central server is handling items? I have seen quite a few weapon modules blink in and out of existence due to server side lag. If weapon modules are in fact constantly coming in an out of the game, this could possibly be the cause of the accuracy problems. Of course, I am no expert. Does that make sense?

I am fanatical about this game. That being said, I can only stomach playing it for a half hour at a time. The longer I live and the more loot I carry, the harder the decision to play becomes. I think a lot of players are this way. Given the nature of DayZ, I would never expect the level of concurrent players to reach the level of something like Call of Duty, or even Starbound! In Starbound, you lose nothing but money when you die.

The sales figures are publicly documented on the home page of this web site. 30x(number of survivors)
  18. My current goal in DayZ is to allow my capture in a controlled environment by a small group of players, only to pick up a hidden weapon and slaughter them all before they can escape with my gear.

    Anyone getting decent fps?

I am running: i7 3970x @4.28ghz 16gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz EVGA GTX 780 3GB So far, I get a fluid 60fps while recording...and no stutters if clouds are turned off.
  20. As some of you may already know, Nalgene bottles are not just impeccably sturdy water containers. They can also serve as a dry container for gear that can be ruined with long term exposure to the elements. I think a nalgene bottle would be a perfect fit for the standalone in combination with a much expanded inventory health system. If you wanted to swim to Skalisty Island, for example, you might have to put your radio, matches, map and other items into the dry bottle or they would be ruined in the crossing. As a real world life hack, I think this would seem a fairly excellent addition to the current mechanics. What do you all think?
  21. I know, but they are all pretty specialized, yes? First aid only holds meds, ammo box only holds loose bullets. This would just add another item such as those, but with more practical synergy for packing economy. In real life, you pack items based on how much use you can get out of them. Most of the thruhikers I know always pack a Nalgene bottle because of its multiple uses. It saves highly valuable bag space.

    Recording Standalone?

Shadowplay does not work properly with DayZ. Also, recording in native resolution is going to claim some resources.... If you are planning to upload to Youtube, it is generally recommended you record in "half size" mode in FRAPS.

How to not be killed on sight

I carry around rotten fruit...it is actually far from useless. I try to avoid killing people whenever possible, so being able to handcuff someone and make them eat rotten fruit to get sick gives them immediate problems and could buy me some time to get clear.

How to not be killed on sight

My advice more or less for avoiding detection/playing solo: 1. Never, no matter the circumstances, allow yourself to be overcome by a false sense of security. You are always in mortal danger. Your good luck can turn on you in an instant. 2. Never break from cover or concealment unless you absolutely have to. When you have to, take the time you need to scan every direction from which you will be exposed. In general, try to keep at least one entire side of you in cover or defilade at all times. 3. If you go around looking for trouble, you are going to find it; and eventually, you will bite off more than you can chew. For those of you who are new to the game, there are many squads of actual combat veterans who play this game, and they can surprise even the most hardcore and experienced gamers with their real life knowledge and team work skills. You will know when you find them, that is no joke. If you want to stay alive, never take making contact lightly. 4. Be observant. When you enter an area, it should become clear whether anyone has been there and sometimes how recently they have been there. Even if it seems no one is there, never let down your guard and do your business quickly. 5. Kill zombies as quickly and quietly as possible to avoid player detection. If you encounter a friendly player in a highly trafficked area who wants to stop and chat with you, tell him to get off direct and neutralize him immediately if he does not comply. 6. The most important rule for me - when you first spawn, the world is your oyster. Absolutely none of the above applies when you have nothing to lose. Make a mad dash for anything you can get your hands on. :D

    Suggestion for us non bandits.

Currently you can hold people at gunpoint and force them to eat rotten food. If you intend to leave someone alive, making them sick ensures they have more immediate concerns than following you and putting an axe in your back.
