  1. -- As a disclaimer, I've been away from the forums, visiting the DayZ Reddit for quite a few months now. Sorry if this has been answered before, as the 'similar topics' listed are 'Do you want pooping in the game?' As Hicks has mentioned that he encourages activity on the forums, I will post as thus. I have heard many times that the size of Chernarus (255 sq km) would not be increased as a result of some engine limitations. Yet, I don't recall that question being asked after the announcement of the entire engine overhaul. So, I ask now on whether this would be possible with the new upcoming engine, which is bound to bring huge improvements in streaming data and optimization(DX11). It is a little jarring that over a hill, near Novodmitrovsk, you immediately stumble upon debug land; and would be truly nice if the new engine were able to efficiently provide further terrain, possibly mountainous and not entirely barren. Developer input welcome, as well as any community ideas of various uses should BI decide to further the playable Chernarus world. Can't wait for DayZ to enter next(current) gen!

Increase Chernarus size with the new engine.

This is what I interpreted as an engine limitation for DayZ. Maybe it's something else entirely though... I am mainly worried that when the map will get filled up with cities, there won't be enough space left in the world for people to do construction, and hiding gear. Especially now that maximum level cap will be increased to like, what, 150? Another problem is that debug land at times prevents the game from looking it's best. Cities like Novodmitrovsk border directly with debug, and could be used as an excuse for putting a huge lake or mountain in between. DayZ lacks in a huge scenery, and small things like that will eventually bring the game to the next generation.

Increase Chernarus size with the new engine.

    I see, understandable.

Increase Chernarus size with the new engine.

I was thinking more along the lines of creating more explorable background scenery(mountains, lakes), as well as more space for things like construction(when implemented) and hiding tents. Whatever space people used to hide Tents in the mod is now being used as a construction ground for huge cities and militarized areas. Where are 100 people on a single server going to hide their tent, or barricade? heh.

    Rezzed - June 2013 - Developer Session

So many spoiled children posting once again treating the Alpha as an actual game release and not otherwise. I guess waiting truly is hard.

Looks really good. They could start up the Alpha after fixing a few of the animations(player and zombie animations) and polishing the game a bit overall(performance and maybe a bit of the UI). I predict 2-3 weeks before Alpha release.

    Heart Beats Steel, Any Day

I like your point of view, but remember that you cannot force feelings. A lot of people might never enjoy the game the same way you do, and it's not something you can change by writing a constructive letter. It's an innate ability to perceive and enjoy that's unique to each person. But yeah, one of the reasons I stopped playing on private hives is because of all the additional vehicles/gear/donor gear. I am enjoying public hives immensely right now.

    Can't do much...

    The viral zombies - yes.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.7 Patch

To be honest, all you have to do is hide in a pine tree while being chased by zombies. Or run into a building with two entrances and run out of the other side while zombies get stuck inside. All of this still works, and all you have to do if find a melee weapon and you're totally fine(assuming you're skilled).

Devs; Allow me to applaud you.

Your opinion is refreshing, and I do agree. Sadly, the flaws of the mod are even more noticeable now - the zombies are more dangerous, and terrible pathing really emphasizes that. Harder loot spawn emphasizes how all loot is spawned in batches instead of how it is spawned everywhere in the Standalone(i.e. if the hospital was empty in Berezino, you would find almost no medical supplies in 5 mile radius.) The Infection really shows how the engine is limited while there could be MANY other ways of making zombies more dangerous in the Standalone. Overall - yes, this patch is truly great. It made the zombies VERY difficult without being unfair. It improved on the survival aspect by reducing loot chance. It fixed a couple of annoying bugs too and made tents and ammo clips really easy to use. But, the weaknesses of the mod are as clear as ever. Cannot wait for the Standalone.

    Get rid of chernarus.

    No.
  12. TiredMiner

Give us a melee weapon slot!

No, the lack of easy melee weapon is on purpose. Otherwise the game is too easy and no compromise between anti-player or anti-zombie gear.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.7 Patch

Yeah, I can confirm there are FPS issues. They're not serious, but it would be great if they were to be addressed.
  14. Sniping, especially in a military simulation or real life, should not be done alone. That's your problem, I think. Have a friend watch your back or die trying. You're not doing anything wrong per-se, it's just that sniping is innately flawed as it is meant either as a guerrilla attack(i.e. snipe one target then run away), or you have to be doing damage behind a perimeter of friendly forces. By yourself, you cannot remain in one place forever - especially if you open fire, you will simply get flanked and killed. There is nothing much you can about that, it's just how it is. (Of course, you can keep mobile after every shot - but there is just not enough good sniper spots in Chernarus to account for that; you might spent hours looking at nothing.) I don't know then, you seem to be doing everything correctly. You play without any background noise(music, people talking), with max volume, and you still get axed? Again, I am sure it's just fundamental weaknesses of being a sniper - you simply cannot do it alone.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.7 Patch

Yeah, it wasn't a pleasant surprise to learn that upright Zombies run at least 50% faster than you. Only way to get rid of them now is to zig-zag up steep cliffs and force them to walk slowly. All of that only because I couldn't risk getting hit, because of no antibiotics. I think I would've had no gripes axing it's face if Infection wasn't such a danger.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.7 Patch

Yeah, zombies chasing you for miles is a good reason to start being more careful - or get into groups with a lot of ammunition to take them all out(especially in important areas such as airfields, and more recently, high value military castles). Yet, it's not perfect. If you're a new player who doesn't know to immediately look for an axe upon spawning - it means instant death if a Usain Bolt zombie took interest in you. An experienced player, though, should have no problems getting an axe in time for the first zombie threat. The infections, on the other hand, are almost entirely unavoidable and require near-unattainable resources to battle. I cannot risk losing all of my blood, having to search for antibiotics in panic for hours, and having a thoroughly bad day simply because a Zombie jabbed me(especially now that Zombies spawn directly within buildings, an easy way to get hit). Again, either reduce the chance of infection to it's original state - or provide alternative ways of curing it. Antibiotics are simply too rare and spawn in locations that are just too dangerous.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.7 Patch

A very good patch with one exception - infections. The chance of infection is too high while the rate of antibiotics is just simply too scarce. This is game breaking for anyone that just spawned in or for anyone far away from medical spawns. I am not going to go into detail simply because i'd take too much effort, sometimes I am not in the mood for splicing words. Either decrease the chance of infection or provide alternative measures of prevention, that's not antibiotics. I love the fact that loot is now a lot more rare. I am loving the new military loot spawns(though I do believe the south-west, Kamenka-side, area could've used a bit more love). I love the lack of foliage near downed choppers. I love the bandit skin and the journal(though it seems a bit gimmicky). A lot of other good stuff, but sadly the game is nearly broken because of infections - those MUST be managed.
  18. AWWWWW MAAAAAAAAAAAN. :( I am ready to wait for as long as needed, granted I get some development in-game footage from time to time.

    E3 and our attendance

My addiction to SA footage is getting a little out of control, I need my fix. The last few screenshots aren't doing it for me, maaan! E3 cannot come any sooner...

    E3 and our attendance

I wish I could be there, DayZ dev has so many nice people I'd love to meet :D
  21. Let's hope Dean Hall wasn't messing around when he said that he wanted a variety of clothing.
  22. I've "lost faith" in the Standalone long ago because of the color of that guy's pants. The "hype train" "left the station" a long time ago for the Standalone pants, and now that we know it's true colors - it's just simply too late.
  23. With Dean saying that the inventory is a "WiP" basically shows that he knows it looks like shit. He posted the inventory just to show us it's function - the way it will look aesthetically will only be presented at E3 if not at the release. :) I don't think Dean likes the look anymore than any of you do.
  24. Omg, diaries will truly be amazing, if people use them of course. I will go exclusively bandit just to kill people and get their diaries! I would finish them with 'and then I was killed by a f*cking bandit.' Just kidding. In any case, I hope each of the books will have sufficiently low drop rate that it will be a whole new adventure whether you find a book off a corpse of a player or hidden away in a house. I don't want books to be something of a trash drop that I have to discard every 2 minutes, make them rare!
  25. Your opinion is not a troll response. It's just that you came here knowingly that most people will disagree with you, and you insist on posting your opinion over and over and over. Of course, I can't tell you to stop - you're on topic and all, but you're just pissing a lot of people off and I truly hope that's enough for you reconsider. Borderline trolling, anyways.
