So, currently in Chenarus, there is NO use for railroads, besides the fact that they lead to cities. So, I think that as a new vehicle, Day Z should have Pump Trolleys, also known as Handcars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pump_trolley ). These could seat 2-4 people I'd imagine, and wouldn't need fuel. Would probably only need a hefty amount of scrap metal to fully repair. These would accelerate slowly, but could book it pretty quickly, and you'd be as good as dead if you hit another handcar going in the opposite direction, or hit anything in general. Now, I know that the one thing that shoots down a lot of suggestions is "Arma 2's engine wouldn't allow it" or something like that, but I don't think it would be THAT difficult to create/edit a vehicle that spawns on rail tracks, and with wheels that conveniently lock in to the rails. So we have Pros: -Moves fairly quickly -No fuel -Would only take scrap metal to repair -Fairly silent (Except for braking, which would screech) -Would give me an excuse to play "Love Train" while playing Day Z ( )And Cons: -Can ONLY move on tracks (This makes you a pretty predictable target, and most people could probably figure out where you're going just by seeing what direction you're moving in and intersect/ambush you) -Slow to accelerate -Real hard to completely change directions -No cover from bullets So what do y'all think? I don't think it would be completely out of the question, maybe have 5-6 hand cars spawn on a map, usually near where the train tracks end.

Sorry for the double-post, but I think the biggest problem would be where the roads intersect with the railroads, and the rails are put on a cement platform thing instead of a normal track, if the rails weren't truly made to hold a train, then I think that would pose a problem since that part of the track is different from all the others. Again, lots of things to consider.

Okay so I was trying to update DayZ, and I got all the files downloaded in just a few seconds, except for dayz_anim_v0.2, which took THREE HOURS to download. Then, when I did extract it, I got an error from 7zip about there being an unexpected end to the archive or something along those lines, and it didn't extract it, and failed to extract after subsequent tries. I'm re-downloading but it doesn't seem to go any faster, and my DayZ updater just refuses to downloaded it, just saying that the download failed for that particular file. Any suggestions? EDIT: Fixed, I forgot that there was a new version of worrom's updater out, and then it started working.

Well as mentioned, it would make a VERY loud noise when braking (So every zombie in the world will know once you've pulled in to Cherno), but as for the amount of noise it makes when moving, I'd see it as being louder than walking/running, but more quiet than a car, maybe louder depending on how much realism wants to be included (Because leaving a hand car out in the middle of the apocalypse with no maintenance could make it pretty squeaky). So I suppose there would be many variables to consider for that.

Yeah, I don't know the limitations that Rocket has, maybe it'll be easy, maybe it'll be hard, maybe it'll be impossible. But I think that if it IS possible, then there is no reason NOT to have hand cars :D I mean, the biggest problem I see isn't that Rocket may not be able to create the vehicle, but that the tracks won't be able to HANDLE such a vehicle.

Oh haha, thanks. Forgot to put a space after the link ;-;

Hello, so I was with my recently-joined clan in vent, and we were supposed to meet each other at a certain set of coordinates, that were set up like "012345". And I was very confused about how to decode that 6-digit numbers in to coordinates, and how to use those coordinates on the map. So can anyone help me?
-
Alright, so from what I gather: -If the coordinates are 123456, then I find the square that intersects the first COLUMN and the fourth ROW? And then if I zoom in even further, I would find the square that intersects the 23rd COLUMN and the 56th ROW? Is that right?
-
Oh okay okay that definitely helps. Thanks!

Some of those numbers are right in the middle of the square. So how would you know which were longitude and which were latitude?

Yo Jack I sent you a friend request over Steam like you asked, but you declined it? -
Umm yeah I think that was me who shot you. Pretty sure you had an M16A4 with 6 mags and a rocket launcher in your back pack :D

Hi, I'm starting to see more and more servers saying that I need a "beta patch" to play on their servers. I've looked up on them, and have found out how to install them, but I have the Steam version of Arma II, so would installing the beta patch be any different? Also, if I have a newer beta patch installed, can I play on servers that are asking for an older one? And what are beta patches exactly?
-
Whenever I try to install it, I get an error that says something like "Arma 2 OA is not installed on your computer or installation is corrupt" :\ EDIT: Wait nvm, I know what I did wrong xD
-
Hm. I've read some thing about connectivity issues with some beta patches. Are these isolated incidents?

Makarov is the best obviously.

Well I figure that the radio is a pretty rare spawn. But be on the lookout for it!

Ah, it's still up. Good to know. @Disgraced: Fully agree with you. The game's already got tension. What it needs is a creepy factor. I mean it's freaking Russia for crying out loud. There's a lot of creepy to draw from.

If NCR is the Day Z version of Fallout's NCR, then there needs to be a Day Z version of Legion too! -

Supposedly, you can find a radio in Green Mountain that you can loot and plays a real creepy broadcast. There was a topic on it that I read yesterday, with a recording and pics as proof. But with the hack that happened recently, I think the topic on it got deleted. So to answer your question: No, I suppose no one really goes there since no one has heard about the radio until a few days ago. But it IS worth going there just for that if you really want it.

Hiya guys, I got this game recently and am having trouble getting off to a good start. I've read guides and watched videos but nothing seems to help. Whenever I spawn, I go inland and try to follow some roads. But these always lead me to a chain of small cities where all I can get is ammo for my makarov, watches, and food and drinks occasionally. But I always end up running out of ammo and dying. I've heard you can find your starting location when you spawn, but I've never seen that. If I did see it then I would totally look up a map and find a good, near by city. But yeah, it seems I can't find any city except for the smaller ones that usually only have one accessible building IF that, and I can't find any guns either. Help and tips would be appreciated (And yes I've read the guides, I'm just a little slow I guess ;-; )
