DayZ could take a lot of pointers from The Last of Us.

What you guys think about the new update?
Kra replied to grimsonfart's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I keep hearing this "fun" word. To put it bluntly; DayZ was never meant to be fun. It was meant to be an experience. If you want instant gratification (only ONE type of fun) there are almost a hundred modifications of DayZ. The "fun" that we had right at the beginning came from actually experiencing true anxiety caused by a video game. Then all the scaredy-cats came in and just started shooting everyone regardless with no interaction, and if they couldn't do that, they'd hack. Then it became all about revenge and consequently got pretty boring. Take the persistent nature of your character to your advantage. Every play session doesn't have to start fresh on the coast and end when you're dead. Take your time, build your character so that when you play with friends, you have something to play with. If you die, then you fucked up, you're out until you can get that character back up. -
Does dayz on steam work after the patch
Kra replied to meat pie's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Was using the Steam version before DayZ Commander even updated. -
It's not about whether its harder or not, its all about the immersion, its about literally putting yourself inside the game. I don't see myself buying the treadmill for home, but I definitely see myself going down to the local VRcade with some mates and running around like idiots inside an almost tangible virtual world. Regarding multiplayer, as someone using Rift+Omni (or even just Rift) you wouldn't want to be in the same servers are KB+Mouse+Screen people. It's like comparing PC multiplayer to console multiplayer. The same level of precision is just not there (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).

I noticed with the new food mechanic that I could stave off death from infection for quite awhile by eating every now and then. Perhaps this could be extended on. For us to be running around in a outbreak scenario leads me to believe that we are already somewhat resistant to the infection plaguing the zeds, so maybe there could be a very small chance at recovery.

Played for a few hours earlier tonight, overall loving the new feel of the mod. Actually feels more apocalyptic now. Some of those zombies will stick to you like glue. Ran into 3 different people way off the coastline that had no weapons, this felt weird to see. A lot of whinging in sidechat about getting infected. Now although it wasn't until near the end of my session that I personally got infected for the first time, but I do wonder if it may be a little too harsh. I need to play more to see how manageable it truly is, but I left the game today feeling like infection is impossible to deal with in the long term, and has now become the main concern. With the loot as scarce as it is, finding enough antibiotics for a whole group seems futile. Corpse running within groups is going to explode lol. Like I said, I need to play more to truly decide how I feel on the infection thing, but those are my first impressions. This feels alot more like the old DayZ we miss. Consequently, I imagine there will be a bit of an angry, misguided backlash over the increased difficulty, but I say; bravo! Bring it on.

I understand how you feel about the quickbar, but I imagine the quickbar to be akin to having things clipped on you outside of your clothing/backpack, easy to reach kind of thing. Actually that gives me an idea, I'd like to be able see the things that are on the hotbar visible on your person, so unselected AK would be slung over shoulder with a strap or strapped to backpack, grenades clipped onto belt. In fact you could extend on that idea and have it so certain items of clothing give you more or less hotbar slots. It would be awesome if we could get visual confirmation of someones loadout like that. Me and my dreams lol. -

Perhaps you've stumbled across what could be weapon crafting! Duct tape + various rifle parts = STALKEResk DayZ homebrew rifle! EDIT: I know this most likely isn't the case, but we can dream, can't we? -

Well, you say that, then you get a 4 hour long debate about the font being used, hahaha But I agree, something is anything, and is always better than nothing. -

Hide/show expansion buttons, placeholders atm I'm sure. -

Don't forget, simulation seems to be the aim here, if you're focused on shifting some items into your backpack etc, you're not exactly going to see through that. Perhaps instead of more transparency make the Alt (or whatever free-look is) temporarily hide the gear menu and allow head movement? -

That's kinda what I was curious about, I fully understand that it would a bit of a technical hurdle to overcome, and would be amazing for immersion if you had to actually go prone to get otherwise difficult to reach objects.EDIT: I'm way too slow, thanks for answering Rocket! -

One thing I was wondering about the vicinity tab, you say we have to search under beds/etc to find things, how does obfuscation work with this? Can you just stand on the bed for instance and loot blind underneath it? -

Will Sniper Rifles be nerfed in the standalone?
Kra replied to VibroKnife's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To me it seems with the way they are talking about weapons in the standalone, every weapon is going to be 'nerfed'. Nerfed in the sense that maintaining a working firing gun will take effort. Rocket's already outlined how clips, magazines and bullets are going to be separate entities. I hope they don't leave it there. I'd like to see a full weapon maintenance system, that is, you need to clean your gun regularly, the barrel can get warped, jams, stuck trigger mechanisms, etcetc. Make it so if they're lazy run and gunners, the gun can blow up in their hands. This to me would be a very strong proponent of reducing kill on sight. -
I found one bout a week after I starting playing, I pretty much ignored the red text spam about them and just happened to come across one randomly. Msta, I think it was. It's really obvious when you find it (if they don't change it much going back in) it was a kennel sitting oddly out by itself on the outside edge of the town. I heard barking as I got close to it, was like "Wtf? Ohh.." dodged the zombies and got upto it wondering how I get my dog. It just pops out when you get close to it. They're pretty cool, at first I thought, F me is it just going to bark all the time? Turns out they bark when something is close and all the zombies were setting him off. But as I headed for forest to check him out, I noticed that he'd attack zombies that aggroed onto me, and he makes quick work of them, fucking awesome.Thing is a machine. Anyway, you can send them to find animals, tell it to stay, and tell it to follow. Maybe something else, can't remember right now. Thing is all these commands are whistles, and only work when the dog is in "hearing range". Lost him a couple of times actually. Best thing of all, found a car, and he just pops right into the back seat. Went back next day or so, no more dogs :( Can't wait for them to go back in.

So do people just sit around all day just trying to think up some random crap to troll with? As boring as the forums are getting, thats pretty sad man. That said, pics or it didn't happen.

Dogs are pulled out atm, causing lag or something, planned to go back in soon tho.

DayZ Developer Blog 15th April Highest one ever

If you love the fog, go check out the Breaking Point mod, its not quite as pretty as the Arma III fog, but at night time it adds a nice atmosphere to the game. -
We've already been told June is the month where the next internal review on release is going to be, which just happens to be the better part of 2 months away. Seeing all these posts where people are so bent out of shape on processes they have zero idea about is completely beyond a joke. I don't care either way whether DayZ SA comes to fruition or not, and I can spend the 5-10mins necessary to find all the latest news and know these things. Maybe I just don't want to end up posting stupid shit that wastes everyones time, when it was already explained again and again even in the same thread. Tell me something, how you do delegate your projects? Do you know exactly how long its going to take an individual to complete their individual task? How about 30 people? Do you even know how long its going to take to finish your homework tonight? EXACTLY? The only fanboy I am a fanboy of, is common sense.

DayZ Alpha won't launch until launched !
Kra replied to willey.erd@oundleschool.org.uk's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
http://www.eurogamer...an-hall-answers (BTW: that was in the linked articles in that one you linked.) There is no game to play at the moment, if you'd been paying attention you'd see that what we're waiting on atm is the client -> server architecture, that is; how your computer talks to the computer hosting the multiplayer games. If they release before this is done, it'd have to be running on the same code as the current DayZ mod, which means script kiddies everywhere. Do you really want to play the SA with no private servers with parachuting cows everywhere? -

19 pages and we're still at square one... Do people actually try to be this ignorant? I don't get it.... Just for your sake, please link a source where these official dates are written or quoted. -
I'm a very casual player, and I demand that DayZ be brutally difficult. You people are using that term wrong. EDIT: It's more the "dedicated" players who for some reason get fixated on a single game therefore get bored, therefore try to mould the game into what they want to play. Anyone who thinks "oh this is too hard" are more likely to just stop playing the game and move onto something else.

Oh you're right, I did use a poor choice of words lol. I meant to write "limited keys at a time", still poor. Funny how you think one thing, type another and not even realise sometimes... >_>
