Layer 8 PICNIC wetware issue. Someone (Alan) has served time in tech support....

Fog impact is about gameplay (read simulation) concept. 1) zeds being aggro'd from distance and charging from range out of the fog right at you = scary, suspenseful, interesting, and to some.. unfair / unbalanced. They go off blood and scent. Some evidence that sound travels better in fog, but whatever. 2) zeds being lost, dumb stumps due to fog means sneaky kills and an advantage to hiding / stealth. They go off vision. Can we get the best of all worlds? have some zeds trigger off sound, some from eyeline, some from scent of the living? So those that trigger off sound end up going off into the wilderness, exploring the twig snaps (and susceptible to thrown cans, etc). The eyeline ones raytrace after survivors. The scent ones are really tough, you get in their trigger zone, they don't give up until you really shake them, or cover yourself in evil zed gooo.

    "Bandits Alive: 31,000"?

Bandits are just survivors that have gotten over the guilt? It remains a crap argument. The fact that it's a game defies any "its real though" sentiments. Its a simulation. More to the point, its a specific, non-friendly simulation. On the internet, every rule is meant to be tested, bent, broken, and buried by anyone, given the circumstances of mechanics that allow for open play. If there are no rules, expect no easy compliance to any established social contract or standard. Claim society is dead, its gone to hell... then sow the wind... and reap the whirlwind. We are all, in the end, when without standards or genuine humanity, devices of the mechanic and what it imposes upon us. Some may try to adhere to "what is right" while others claim "don't punish any style of play with gimmicks". Enjoy the apocalypse of no consequences. 1/5 bandits is unreal, unsupported, and pure supposition that end times would generate such numbers.
  6. What: an item in everyone's inventory, the fist, or open hand. Effect: It does nothing, nothing at all. Why: allows you to holster weapons, and put an ineffective item in your hand. Purpose: to present yourself as passive, unarmed, and ready to parley. How: create a hand model that you equip from inventory. It does no damage, has no range. Does nothing at all. Maybe, if you right/left click, it waves, or gives a thumbs-up. Negative: it takes an inventory spot. Might be confusing to new players. I've read comments about the desire to have the ability to holster weapons to allow for graphic evidence of "friendly". Put a fist in your hand, walk on over here and trade, and walk away. Grab a gun, we shoot you. Actually, a left click = thumbs up, right click = thumbs down, middle click waves could be interesting. Of course you can betray the "friend" later, when they turn their back. Or later, when everyone feels secure and weapons are allowed to be carried in hand.

    Saying goodbye to my humanity

Become a trusted medic (or gofer, or guard of this group), and be respected by all. http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=4581 Don't fight your need to be civilized, embrace it. Don't become a murderer. DO become a bandit, if you must, but embrace robbery over murder. And yes, if solo, the rule is ... well, you know it well.
  8. WOW... totally missed this thread http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=9239 till just now. talk to them maybe?
  9. Lovely concept. Start a Trade "guild", much like the "medic" guild... http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=4581&highlight=medical+assistance Have overwatch mates, bring only what is to be traded. Good lord, we may get civilized yet.

Consolidated GUI & POO MOD (With Pic!)

Body Outline: The body outline changes opacity to show your visibility. It could also be creatively repurposed to show temperature (color shift) or even general well being. Interesting. You could really make all those icons and the outline smaller and tighter, since most the time, they aren't telling you much. Like it. No real opinion on the Mr. Hanky factor, other than to say it doesn't really carry much value as a game mechanic.

[ViDEO] I just became a fucking crow

I've read it is a feature in arma (for server admins, or something), and a "glitch" in dayz. Its happened to other players.
  12. So, a team of three has YOU pinned down in the castle, a barrack, any place that has one good way in/out, which is ideal for fighting most anyone. You can't move, and don't want to, as you have a "bunker" type setup and are ready for the fight if they bring it to you. One of them server jumps, repositions to assault you, and then logs back in. With metagaming, the timing of any delay is easily worked out, and the assault comes at you. What do YOU do? DC, and get ridiculed? Its a bad mechanic that needs some kind of fixing.

    Knifes & Nades

prone invisibility to z's is something to consider for positioning. Even crouching and corner-leaning around a building corner and seeing a z facing the other way? Sure, make the stealth-move and attempt the silent, melee kill.

    Knifes & Nades

Everything is / should be based on some basic balance. Guns are better than melee, outside of VERY specific circumstances... or when out of ammo and you have no choice and are just swinging for the fences. It just makes sense that I can use the hatchet in inventory for something if I HAVE to or am perfectly positioned for stealth. Sure, one-shot-kill if headshot, why not (especially if from behind)? Otherwise, suffer the wrath of whatever it was you just pissed off.
  15. Item: Sheppard's cane What it does: when equipped, animals will follow you (if within, say, 20m) Benefit: create a corral out of barbed wire, collect animals. Hell, bring them to a barn (or any large building) and close the doors. Why: a sense of civilization, and a living meat locker.
