It's Impossible to See at Night! - Other threads will be locked/deleted!
heathy87 replied to daish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
yeah i think ill chime in, after playing a bit in the dark, i can't take playing at night, probably the worst thing you can do in DayZ is run around with a torch or start lobbing flares all over the place.. but it seems that it is unnaturally dark, light doesn't reflect off anything or there is now zero ambient light, also realistically eyes do adjust over time, even in complete darkness you can eventually make out shapes and see what is coming, i've done sentry duty practice a long time ago when i was young in cadets, but i remember being able to see ppl approaching in complete blackness from over 50~60m away. fine if there is no moon ofc. atm it doesn't seem to project any light. and its also quite easy to ruin natural night vision with a small dose of light. -
So you think ArmA II:CO will go on Sale on Steam soon?
heathy87 replied to MarteenGreen's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
ideally the proper thing to do would be to not lower the price just because there is a large interest in it, i would of liked to pick it up a bit cheaper but ill get the dlc on sale instead. i paid the current £24 on steam and i think a game that has had 3 years or so of patches is worth that. but from a business sense, lowering the price is a stupid move. -
i think the carebears need to stay in eve where the term actually belongs, this game has no carebears because there are no safe zones and no resources or even a currency system, so the idea that someone can grind the pve in dayz and end up almighty and powerful is a fallacy.

the zombies need to be hard or you can kiss team work good bye, if the only challenge in the game comes from other players it will never migrate from purely deathmatch mentality. the only thing that made zombies tough in 1.7.0 was their wall hacking ability, now thats gone it should be more on par with what it should be. i want the chance of meeting survivors to not always been a freaking disaster but to actually team up and tackle the common enemy for food and water, not solo a whole town because i'm neo in the matrix bending every rule to my whim.

dayz has only just begun really, its going through a testing phase of its development, instead of running gunho back to your corpse and dying again, did you stop to think that it was pointless and you may aswell start your story again, find new loot.. i used to corpse run but now i just leave my stuff and start again. the journey by far beats the destination in dayz i feel.

you know a game is forever when it gets its own 'its gunna die' thread. -
If I cannot see in the Dark how come the zombies can?

zombies can smell tears or fear maybe both, they don't need eyes. -
Low performance on Decent Computer
heathy87 replied to Badass Viking's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
no something is broken with the patch, each server i join either isn't updated to 1.7.1 or it lags really badly you get into the server and its 1 fps. got into uk24 i think but kicked for script violation prob beta patch incompatability 701 vs 825. then tried DE69, no frame rate issue but, the server isn't 1.7.1 getting a white text message in the centre screen. and finally Dallas 22, no white box, not 1 fps but definitely a performance hit i usually average about 25-30 but its about 15 or less on this server. -

DayZ 1.7.1 Discussion - Others will be locked/deleted!
heathy87 replied to Tigerr13's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i guess it'll take a few days at least before the servers update properly but i filtered for 1.7.1 and still i join the server with 'your running blah blah blah 1.7.1 and the server is 1.7.0' oh really why did some dumbass label it 1.7.1 then. also it cant be just me that joins a random server and the frame rate drops to 1 or so. -
It's like taking every autistic idea you have and making a patch out of it.
heathy87 replied to Tekdrake's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
yeah after reading the part about the beta patch i was confused i have steam and it was a matter of downloading a zip, opening that zip, clicking the .exe inside that zip and then pressing next next on 2 prompts and hey presto beta patch installed. the rest of post was fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck shit bastard cunt fuck fuck fuck. -
Honestly I hope Rocket and all the folks at BI the best with DayZ, its almost like watching CS again through it metamorphosis into a fully fledged game. you guys have made something fun and refreshing that ppl want to play and its good. I don't want to detract from arma 2 itself either, one of the reasons i never got it in the first place was because my pc at the time couldn't run it. warfare is fun and with dayz it made it a worthy purchase for me i hope to get many hours of fun from both arma 2's influx of players and dayz itself.

Post Spawn Loot Comments here ONLY
heathy87 replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't actually mind not spawning with anything because with the upcoming mechanics zombies wont hit through walls and you can actually lose them, so with a bit of trial and error from some complete nooby its doable. also the problem with all this deathmatch nonsense is precisely because everyone starts with a gun, if ppl don't have access to guns right at the start there is at least a SLIM chance that 2 completely unarmed survivors team up and hunt for weapons together promoting team work more around the coast. -

^^ i'm with the 50%, less mags will definitely make ppl less gunho in the beginning or maybe more i dunno. spawning empty certainly will create a vast difference between someone who has been playing for an hour to someone who just spawned in.. there is going to be so many unarmed slaughters (is most certainly a tear generating idea probably fountain potential). -
Please stop with anti-sandbox suggestions!
heathy87 replied to Arnoldio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
its funny because, there are bunnies, i have seen a huge rainbow and there are health potions (beans). suggestions are suggestions arguing over it is stupid ppl should be more criticizing with actual debates as to why said idea is bad or not, going all omg you wowcodfanboi whatever is silly and not exactly helping anything. i play wow and bf3 and eve and ro2 and fallen earth sometimes, but i see the potential in dayz and some of the subtle features that makes other games compelling can fit in this world without fucking up the atmos. -
yeah that would be sweet night time muggings, knock some dude out then teaba.. i mean rob all his loot, yeah.. sounds a bit exploity though, given the chance for success would have to be high enough to make it viable and also low enough so you don't end up with a permanent unconscious slave.

all comes down to virtual lives not being worth anything so ppl just shoot on sight instead of taking the time to see if its worth grouping up, irl lives ofc are important. i don't like it much i had to kill a guy yesterday when i did a quick run of the NWA, i felt bad afterwards because i know it can take hours to find all the good bits of gear. but i knew if i didn't kill him there was a very large chance he would of killed me had he seen me first.

Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?
heathy87 replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
so lets understand it, the idea is to survive, once you master that, next meta gaming, loot hoarding, base building whatever your game. the game map and the game itself is persistent like an mmo, what happens is the game world itself isn't safe against potentially any number of players to enter and explore the map for any amount of time, eventually someone will find your base if its in the known game world, since this isn't based on rounds but the idea that your one life is your only life, ppl want to hang onto what they have gained for as long as possible, if the game is cordoned off then it would be practically impossible to have a sustainable base without constant supervision, there just isn't anywhere in the game map that has a high enough chance that someone won't randomly stumble into it. which severely diminishes the point in even being able to build them, i would argue that with current features weighed the only 2 real reasons you need a base is for role playing, a good honest reason lots of ppl like doing that, or to gear up easily again when you die (and to ofc have a meeting place you and your buddies only know about) which makes sense really. even so the argument is a good one. (i don't even have a base btw but the idea of having one, one day, i just don't see it being possible unless its hidden somewhere obscure enough to make the cost vs reward of building it worth doing) -

its quite shocking to see the foaming at the mouth about this off map thing, i mean i made my point, i don't really see anything wrong with it, because its not like the ppl going off map are going to a place where you or anyone else can't go, but they are making good of a situation the proper game map is huge, but on a server where ppl are running around aimlessly the probability of someone stumbling upon your cache when your offline is high and the last thing you want to happen. the only true place where you can store stuff without it being immediately discoverable by other players is by hiding it. its true there isn't much of an end game and hoarding is a means to an end for ppl with nothing else to do. i'm for some kind of system that checks for vehicles being left idle off the game map for days or weeks to just despawn and repop in the map, but having arbitrary death-borders is stepping on the freedom of the way the game is currently. if you put in borders they get camped.. look at any shooter online currently, a lot of the fighting happens around the edges, battlefield suffers from it because of its open maps all the snipers finding the most awkward place to camp around the edges. wake island for example, how many times do ppl camp that tiny freaking hill behind the bunkers at C because its the furthest to the edge that you can go where noone pays much attention. mostly it just break immersion, i've walked off the map a couple of times and it took me hours to get back, having 'you are going to die in 10.. 9..8..' pop up would just kill the immersion for me. -
sometimes, I like when the night is clear and the moonlight illuminates everything you get that effect where its like watching a black and white movie. for a 4 or so year old engine the lighting effects are really good in arma.

the problem with spawning in new vehicles is that eventually it will just crash, the old ones have to be removed to spawn new ones at least up till some sort of limit, i think if it gets to the stage where the server hasn't respawned vehicles for a looong time then it should either drop in more choppers to maybe help players reach these hidden bases (which could and would end up going the other way and feeding hoarders even more) or it should remove vehicles that have not entered the game map for x amount of days, which means they probably aren't being used and simply stored indefinitely. its a problem, obviously you don't want to put in any boarders or strict limits, like has been said it goes against the freedom of the game. if you look at going outside the game map on its own, its an evil that isn't so bad because it takes a player out of any given situation, it benefits the person going outside the map because they want to hide what they have or for their own reason, and every player on the server benefits for having one less person running around who will potentially KoS. the act itself cancels out the fact of whether its good or bad because the effects are equal between the players it affects, when you add hiding the limited spawning vehicles out of the game map then the problem starts to grow because eventually all the vehicles are owned by the dominant clan or group with no way of countering it besides endless treks through infinity. the best you can hope for in that case is that ppl with AK's keep shooting at choppers in the hopes of removing a clans main mode of transport and spawning in new ones. but once you have a chopper your not going to be flying it over the assault rifle wielding populace anyway. -

well, i'd say its clever use of game mechanics, but its an issue about on par with the case of renting a server to setup a base on, first day you can sit there 'setting up' the server, but in reality all you do is farm NW with some buddies, get a chopper, relocated into the middle of no mans land, then open up the server to the general public, while everyone is milling around pwning each other you and your buds are laughing it up in the wilderness with an unreachable powerbase complete with whatever you managed to farm before dropping the pw. this is more of a problem than simply being able to go off the map, if you give a map boundaries ppl will just edge crawl anyway. whatever notions ppl have about fair, balance and whatever else you were expecting, in a game where your meant to do what you can to survive, sure ppl are going to do the most obscure tactics possible in order to make it not worth your while. same reason why i wouldn't setup a base on a random server, simply don't trust the owners to be honourable. the only time ill ever setup my own base is if i decide to rent my own, at least that way i know the only way someone can screw with it is if its legitimately stumbled upon or if someone comes in and telehacks there way to it or something. but there are definitely larger issues at work than simply being able to leave the area. -
Can indoors movement be improved ? Can more enterable houses be added ?
heathy87 replied to unsobill's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
ive only ever dabbled with the quake and hammer world editors but from my knowledge of world design buildings are either static models made in a modelling program and imported or they are carved from blocks and textured afterwards. dayz would probably benefit from some alterations to some of the buildings carving out the insides of the bigger currently non-enterable buildings could open up more looting options and places to hide. just depends on the time investment for such an undertaking. my guess is it would require a whole new map rework, then you have to obviously compensate some how for the players with computers that can't cope with so many interiors. -
Can we stop the CoD/BF3 name calling?
heathy87 replied to shadowvfx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
to call ppl newbs and such is fine from an opinion point of view but for example dayz spurred me into getting arma, normal arma i had played before dayz came along, but with the accessibility of games like bf3, you can hop in play for a couple hours no sweat, when you have a ton of games, like for me i own red orchestra 2 aswell which is arguably equally unforgiving as arma well i never got around to getting into it in its prime days during that time i either didn't have a good enough pc or i was playing wow which is also another game that ppl slag off too much when its only real problem is its life draining ability. basically what im getting at is, all the ppl that label everyone cod newbs and such, you can only do that if you are yourself such a noob because you need to of played the game to know what your talking about which means you are in fact that in which you loathe.. i play games for the fun factor, not because its new and shiny although that does enter into the equation lots of ppl see amazing potential in dayz i'm sure whatever ppl suggest at least the decent suggestions try to not include anything that changes the atmosphere that is the basis for the whole survival thing. -
Yeah the pvp situations in Dayz are exactly the same as in Eve whereby you know what your getting into has a very large chance of you not returning with your shit, so the pressure mounts on i get shakes its that tense sometimes. like ppl have said, be more cautious, obviously don't get super attached to your loot, and if your need supplys, loot the less frequented places to lighten the chance of you bumping into someone else.
