As a fully fledged game i think you can probably get away with any of the choices posted in the OP. if it was an mmo you'd have to seriously rework the entire thing, the game world would have to be larger and there would have to be grindable stats and levels for it to have any sort of replayability or just longevity, there would have to be SOMETHING other than 'survive', and ofc you'd have to move from anti-game to actual game and tailor it to a larger crowd in order to actually make a profit. also permadeath wouldn't work in an mmo i don't think, even eve isn't that brave most ppl that get screwed over in eve just quit. as for keeping it the way it is will probably cost you less, some sort of cosmetic market buying skins and such could probably hit off, really depends on internal factors like, do you have the resources to have artists working on skins and is it cost effective. I would probably buy a stand alone DayZ if it was mmo or like it is now on separate servers. a full game with support and all the goodies that are planned i could see it being worth at least the price of arma 2, i would happily pay £25 for a standalone DayZ, hopefully that would mean it runs on its own engine which would probably make it considerably better/smoother having been designed for the game instead of working from another engine like now.. how its funded well that would be over my head, they probably all have good pros and some cons. personal preference i would say.

i've only switched from camo to ghillie once and i only saw a flicker of ocean, then i was back in the supermarket. i think that was in 1.7.1.2 though, i'm not sure if anything has changed with the ghillie in 1.7.1.4. its a risk though. the sight and hearing thing is out of whack, at night you can crouch and have 0 bars stationary, in 1.6.0.1 and 1.7.0.1, i am almost positive you were more visible on roads, 2 bars instead of 1, i could be wrong though, in the current version it doesn't seem to change the sight bars compared to other skins, 1 sight bar while prone.

yeah i just came back from hitting the crashed heli jackpot. logged in south of Kabanino, crashed heli about 500m from me, so i wait till it gets a bit lighter, go over get a fn fal. after that i head toward stary, another crashed heli in the field above stary, this time its light to i waste all the fal ammo clearing the zombies, run over to the heli and i get a m107 with 3 mags and a m249 saw, also 3 boxes, well i bagged the m249, dropped the fal for the m107. now i'm armed to the teeth and can't actually carry much more :( ill have to give one of my buds the SAW.

Why everyone thinks this mod is hardcore?
heathy87 replied to mkrrr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
yeah its not that bad because you can kite successfully everytime, i played a mod someone had made for stalker CoP once still got it i think, just amped up the whole game and made all the mobs spawn randomly, now that was freaking hardcore took about 50 trial an error attempts to get anywhere. if you got CoP and you want something hard look up pripyatan arms, complete the game with that mod then come back and talk about hardcore. -
oh right well in that case just keep kiting untill you find one. usually in some kind of building, should have plenty of time to sprint in, locate gun, equip and either kite to a new building or start blasting your way out. so long as your full sprint they wont hit you.

fight in buildings ppl zeds have to walk through the door so you get a chance to actually shoot some of them. i took on about 30 with 3k blood in a church, i could feel the holy empowerment as i smote those fools down!

To easy to be detected by zombies?
heathy87 replied to DayZ1337 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
yeah currently its easier to just aggro everything run into a house kill them all while they mill around in the door way then loot! going prone through a whole town is just asking to get sniped. -
Soda Should count towards hunger (a little bit)
heathy87 replied to alexahr2008's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
personally i think the thirst system needs a rework, so far its just a fluff system, compared to eating that actually heals you, drinking doesn't really do much else it doesn't really have any weight to it. i liked the idea of changing both hunger and thirst into a percentage based system so its a bit more dynamic instead of 1 can = thirst quenched 1 beans = hunger satiated have a bit of a mix of foods and values. also yes cans of soda should actually be detrimental to water intake caffeine is pretty diuretic. -
not always but yes the chance to bleed on the first time you get hit is really freaking high.

i dont know if it helps but before 1.7.1.4 i had a hatchet, when i logged in to the new patch i lost my weapons and my hatchet, but the problem now seems to be that i cannot pickup a new hatchet it just says 'there is no room in your inventory'

yeah dayz and eve are very similar in what emotions they bring, dayz just has about half the smack talk and unfortunately no picture spam. when you know a player is near you in dayz you concentrate more are more cautious, you know you may get killed soon and have to start again. in eve forming up for fleet fights is the same, you know you probably won't make it back if the rumours are true, 'we're up against 150 today guys' that's when the shakes start. for dayz the shakes start when you've seen another player and your wondering if they've seen you. strangely though eve losses do cost a bit more in terms of time, the time it takes to get all the loot you want in dayz is about the time it takes to farm a drake's worth of isk.

Trouble getting Beta 93825 to work
heathy87 replied to Kartharos's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
when you install the beta patch you get a shortcut in your operation arrowhead folder. i had a few issues getting it to run properly (3d9 engine errors?), in the end i used the beta shortcut to run dayz. basically just properties on the shortcut and add -nosplash -mod=@dayz after the quotes in the target box. save and double click it, that way it runs the beta, and dayz, you don't actually need steam to run arma2 even if you bought it from them. or use the updater yeah that works everytime for me. -
Patch plays perfectly fine...
heathy87 replied to thunderpimp's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
well your lucky, i logged out of 1.7.0.1 with an kobra and a g17, i logged in 1.7.1.4 with a makarov, relogged to see if i'd get my stuff back, found multiple server spouting script violation, finally found one that let me in but i spawned off the map in the featureless hills. after making my pilgrimage back to the known world i ended up by Myshkino, went down to find some loot, aggro'd some zombies and started taking them out inside a house, after a couple of buffering or loading freezes i found myself unconscious (which i must add is really fking random, also if your guy is unconscious how is he able to scream in pain?) well luckily i managed to crawl my ass out of there and log off in a field with about 3k blood. -
Hotfix Build 1.7.1.4 Rolling Update (was 1.7.1.3)
heathy87 replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
yeah i'm not getting FPS issues per say, but every 30 seconds or so, or randomly i get these buffer freezes, in 1.7.0.1 i turned off my overclock and it fixed the freezes but seems its back again this time i'm running default clocks. also to get out of the debug hills ppl just run east for about 2 km. luckily i had a compass when i got ported there. -
Hotfix Build 1.7.1.4 Rolling Update (was 1.7.1.3)
heathy87 replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
So far i wish i didn't install 1.7.1.4 joined the first server, lost both my weapons, joined 5 other servers, kicked for script violation. join the last server, spawn in debug. so now i guess the only way for me to leave this place is to die. -
Hotfix Build 1.7.1.4 Rolling Update (was 1.7.1.3)
heathy87 replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
logged in lost my ak74 kobra + my g17 (replaced by a makarov) also getting hit, i had 3 blood spurts and i wasn't actually bleeding. -
aye giving up now is a waste of time, i really doubt anyones character for example will survive the transition from alpha to beta and even from beta to release. it would be wise to do wipes anyway so, i do agree with the rest in some way, your giving up too easily.

oh right you need matches, well from what i have learned super markets are a good place but risky to visit alone. but i think they can pop up in any loot pile really, i'm sure i've stumbled on them in many different places.
-
I smell a google translate fail you need wood as well as matches but i think im missing the point entirely.

Hunting season 2012 is now OPEN!
heathy87 replied to myselph33's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
why do i have this feeling that with the addition of melee its just going to revert back to the KoS mentality. gunna be like medieval times around the coast all the freshly spawned players running at each other arms flailing. lol -
haha this is funny because i logged into a 1.7.1.1 server ran over to berezino into the lower super market and there, right next to each other 2 ghillies separate spawns. its probably the best skin, unlike a lot of skins that are supposedly camo in various games, i've not seen a skin blend so well with its surroundings than the ghillie, it really is quite easy to not see someone in the ghillie there are lots of colours in the map that just blend really well with it. also i changed from camo to ghillie and only saw a flicker of ocean then as someone said i was back in the same place. i gave one of the ghillies i found to a friend and we were farming and killing zombies on low pop just aim practice mostly, the most common sentence was 'where did you go' or 'i cant see you where are you'. think that speaks for itself.

What upgrade should i get to play this game.
heathy87 replied to misterzombro's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I hope i didn't sound pretentious i was honestly trying to give advice, my system has an AMD Phenom II x2 545 3.0ghz 4gb ddr2 ram and a Radeon 4650hd 1gb, its completely budget (i paid about £500 3 years ago so now its probably worth 100) but its newer than arma 2 itself, still only just about runs the game in what i consider a reasonable playable frame rate. but like i said even i need to upgrade soon if i want to play any games with any sort of detail. basically just buying individual parts is never going to pay off because eventually you will need to replace it all due to compatibility issues, just throwing any old parts into a case won't work. and if you want your system to play more than just arma 2, then a better investment strategy is advised. i've had a good few years out of my rig so im going to have the same fun with either replacing parts or just buying a whole new tower. -
What upgrade should i get to play this game.
heathy87 replied to misterzombro's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
yeah you'd probably be better off just getting a new computer, one that is 64bit, has at least 4gb of ram and a dx11 gfx card, even then nothing is future proof. but the more cores you get in your processor the longer it will probably last and the less of a bottleneck you'll have. i think my rig is about 4 years old now i bought it 3.5 years ago and i can only run arma 2 in med while attaining a frame rate around 25-30. i've not found a game it won't run yet though. but even my one is getting to the stage where i'm going to need to replace the processor and gfx card if i want to play anything with a bit of detail which means the psu needs replacing as well, eventually you end up replacing so much you might as well just replace the whole thing. -
No loot anywhere (1.7.1.1)
heathy87 replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i've not played 1.7.1.1 much this morning i've been reading these forum topics but i did hop in for about 2hrs, 1hr in 1.7.1.0 found 2 double barrels right next to each other and 1hr in the new update, i did notice a bit of strange randomness my first mountain dew and a camo clothes right next to each other in a supermarket, nothing in the back half, and i didn't log in anywhere near the place either. seemed a bit odd. or i'm just lucky :D i lagged out and my wireless dropped after that i didn't check the whole front of the market. didn't look like there was much spawned though at least no 'piles' of loot like there was pre 1.7.1. -
it doesn't even make sense in this game, and eve for that matter, its a known fact that if you want to pvp in eve you need to bear, since isk doesn't just magically accumulate in your wallet from station spinning. considering there is no safe zones, no market, no economy and no real winning scenario or situation, whatever you lose can be gained back within a 2hr play session.. carebearing doesn't exist in dayz because there isn't enough pve to grind for a situation to arise for it to pay off more than what anyone else grinds normally... sure you can 'bear' all the best items in dayz, but does that make you any better off than a guy with a makarov at close range? not really. grinding all the loot in dayz only makes you a juicier target so the 'bearing' which is just a derogatory way of saying grinding, is actually balanced in dayz because all the bearing in the world doesn't save you from perma death..
