If there weren't tiers of gear IE, if it stopped at scoped weapons and camo skins, well we'd have half a game right now. proposition for replacements? .. i didn't think so. also you can ghillie up quite easily irl, simply by stuffing your clothing with tuffs of grass and foliage, if you wear webbing its even easier to spread it out more, its common knowledge. only things i lack are a coyote backpack , gps and nvg. m249, 1000 rounds g17, 4mags 5 steaks 2 canned food 4 water (3 cans 1 water bottle) 2 blood bags 3 morphine 2 painkillers 4 bandages i'm quite content keeping my stock like this, the only problem i find is the m249 is a crappy gun for going solo, great covering weapon, unwieldy in CQC not to mention loud. -

all the ppl in that montage got what was coming to them, basically 90% of that video was in places with military loot so what do you expect? if you don't want to get shot, don't be in places long enough where the possibility of that happening gets bigger, better yet grow some skill and learn to kill ppl before they kill you?. once you take out the pvp aspect dayz is nothing more than l4d on a large open map with less zombie variation. -

still it takes up space that can be used for other things, such as revenue building projects, this isn't an mmo so we do not pay for the upkeep of the data centre or the space we use on it. yeah one character or 10000 characters still won't take up much space, but once you have 1,000,000 characters it starts taking up space, and it starts requiring constant upkeep. which requires hiring ppl. This is not a subscription based game, so how can you expect the perks of such a system without paying the upkeep. it still doesn't make any sense because why would i realistically have multiple characters in a survival game that is meant to give you just one character, do we live in the multi verse or something? 'oh today isn't going to well is it phill, lets hop over to one of my other phills and see if that server is any better' this sort of thing doesn't really fit in with keeping you playing your one character, instead it basically turns it into ALTS-ARE-US. I can see the exploits now, ppl just creating new characters on servers just to grief, they don't care about dying or losing their ALT, because their main character won't lose anything. -

well i think it probably has something to do with the data centre, if characters are stored per server it still needs to be kept on the main server, to avoid ppl tampering with the data. what is stopping me bouncing servers all day an creating 1 gig of character data across all servers... who pays for that space usage, who pays for everyone elses space usage. I could see the separate character data per server becoming a space and or cost issue. maybe not initially but eventually. having one character per guid cuts down the space usage, as opposed to having 100 characters each. -

funnily enough everytime i do shoot i regret it, i hate killing ppl that aren't a direct threat. i shot at a guy yesterday in stary opposite the sniper hill on smaller hill behind the church, i was looking at the sniper hill (headed toward berezino), saw a guy walking and running up the hill looking over toward the military tents, well i thought 'shall i kill him' then i did, lay down, opened fire, small bursts with the m249, poor bastard dove to the ground and started to crawl around frantically. took me a few minutes to get to his corpse but he had quite a few tools that i already had and he had a m10 shotty, so even if he saw me first i doubt the slugs would of been that great over 1000m. it was a good kill, but at the same time i felt like a dick considering he was in no way a threat to me in my ghillie. still can't help yourself sometimes. -

yeah its not a cure but it does have the right attitude' date=' you don't want to create a system that penalizes everyone, but you do want one whereby it makes doing something not worth it, or very inconvenient. making the water and food gauge reset to near empty when you join a new server, at least it forces you to stay there until the problem is solved, but again this doesn't really stop much with any sort of planning, having extra food and water is common place. nope it needs to be a flat out delay if anything, when you join a server, you need that count down period to happen regardless of whether the game has started or not, if ppl have to wait 2 mins at [u']least every time they join a server, there is less of a chance you can switch fast enough to get behind someone, and farming items becomes less profitable because you need to wait in the lobby for about the same amount of time it takes for loot to respawn. so in the end you don't really gain anything from switching. as ppl have said you can't dictate which servers ppl play on, some hopping will exist so players can find a server they actually want to stay on. the best you can hope for is making the hopping as inconvenient as possible. as far as disconnecting to avoid death, i'm not sure tbh, the delay may make it less of a reflex 'oh im gunna need to waiiiiiit' but yeah that is a different issue, this idea mostly only removes the benefits of hopping for vantage points and farming loot. also with this you need to make the disconnect, boot to the server list and not to the lobby, so players need to rejoin and resit through the 2 min wait. basically what happens with this is it totals a 4 min wait, to switch between 2 servers. -

there needs to be some sort of fail safe for this, however unrealistic we're playing a freaking game about a zombie apocalypse for goodness sake. the beach spawning idea seems like a good one but, it still doesn't really stop the issues beyond extra planning, you simply have to save your char in 2 places on 2 servers for a work around. having a delay would probably be the best option, after all its the speed ppl hop which is the issue, if you make it so that the accessing of your character data from the hive has a delay before it can be accessed again, the ppl have to wait a certain amount of time before they can reconnect. that way if you disconnect the idea is you have given up for the day, or your inet has dropped, in which case the time it takes you to restart your router, your connection cool down will be over anyway. only needs to be 5 mins or so, stops ppl hopping behind others, stops server farming. or at least decreases them both. hell make it so you HAVE to wait 2 minutes in the lobby on EVERY server you connect to, that way ppl will fuck around less. its not going to cure the issue, but it will make it less viable. -

no i only watch them for a few mins, i saw the guy looting an apartment, then he went outside killed a zombie and then a dog was following them, after that i just stopped watching, if they are cheating then they will get banned eventually. -

I agree that characters should be saved per server, it probably is one of the only ways to stop the hopping. maybe not entirely but it will cut it down a bit. -

Npc factions could be a valued addition to the game, if ppl choose to avoid pvp and just survive, then an end grind for rare weapons could be interesting. ignore the elitists that only spout purism, every idea that doesn't detract from the core element is a good one. Pvp always gets incentives, if you have a faction that wants 50 scrap metal for a rare gun, which 2 hours later end up in a bandits hands, well the system worked as to be expected. I'm for anything that adds more depth without ruining the current vibe. there are issues with this type of thing though, for example, are the npcs killable, if so, what is stopping a team of 10, from taking the base, and if they do, what happens then? do they respawn eventually? could be exploitable if not properly implemented. -

Zombies will never be the main threat even if they one shot ppl, players will always be the ultimate challenge. AI is just not going to compensate for that. Eve is a good example there are many NPCs that you can grind but they are nowhere near as popular as PVP fleet fights. and they've tried harder and harder AI's nothing beats PVP. nothing equals PVP. sleepers, incursions .. they aren't dynamic enough. -
if you spawn in the featureless hills, go east for about 2km, if you can't find east, it SHOULD be right from the position you spawn in facing north 'i think don't hold me to that'. when i spawned out there luckily i had a compass.

i said about this yesterday to my team, we were overwatching stary. either that car is static on the map, or it just hasn't been given the proper identity as a vehicle. I haven't play the map that much so i don't know if its there in the original.

fact is only rocket knows what he wants in his game, so all the ppl that think they are on some kind of crusade to rid the world of shitty suggestions. your wasting your breath, time, energy, patients.. all your doing to yourself is making the time between you losing your hair colour, gradually decrease. i believe rocket himself can look at an idea that has been posted on these forums and decide if he likes it or not, i really doubt there needs to be this uproar of name calling simply because YOU don't like what was said learn to be freaking open minded instead of jumping over ppl with crappy ideas shouting witch witch!. -
there just needs to be a delay on when you can access your character data from the hive after a disconnect. that way if you drop you have to wait xx amount of minutes if you drop because your net died its gunna take that much time to restart your router or whatever. the problem is that, we're talking about real intelligence here, its not AI wars where everyone runs around with no brain. the way it works now.. you run into a place where there could be other players, you aggro lots of zombies, instead of killing them all and announcing to everyone in the area where you are, the intelligent thing to do is to disconnect, why?, because ppl aren't stupid.. its that saying 'where there is a will, there is a way'. but yes its an exploit and there should be a way of stopping the mass dc and relog with a simple access delay, if ppl know 'well i can kill these 10 zombies or wait 5 minutes to get back in' i think killing the zombies will become the better option again. having a delay also stops ppl jumping servers too fast and trying to get behind ppl.

3rd person is basically a must for me, I can't play with first person only, i switch between the two quite often to get a good view of my surroundings, if you got 3 monitors and FoV set as high as it can go, then your peripheral vision can be accounted for almost perfectly but, for ppl with one screen we need to make do with 3DP. I don't play on 3dp:off servers, so basically i would probably stop playing dayz if they remove the 3dp. crosshair off is fine, use ironsights anyway. but yeah no 3dp, just wouldn't be fair against the FoV maxing, 10 screen elitists.

yes currently this is quite a problem i find myself exploiting without even really trying, once you get a decent weapon like an AK74 or one of the stanag rifles, find 6 mags then for the rest of that characters life you barely need to go ammo hunting, in one session your hardly going to empty 6 mags at anything, any you do shoot you reload before 10 rounds left or whatever. in which case they are back again after you leave or go afk for a bit. 7.62 has the bullet system where you could stockpile rounds and mags separate and have different mag sizes for different guns doubled tapped, smaller yield m16 mags all types, not much inventory space in DayZ though. I guess the main bonus here is ammo will finally become a proper commodity and make you think twice about wasting it, knowing you will have to farm more.

think ppl are worrying too much your gunna lose everything multiple times anyway, if you managed to save half your stuff this time, the update that comes one day that changes DayZ into a beta, well do you think anything is going to survive that transition?, you might as well get used to not keeping all your stuff in this alpha test. i don't mean to sound like an ass, but its just fact, ppl saying 'omg there must be some wayyyyy' just a bit silly really. Its not the end guys regardless of how much you think it maybe -

its far too easy to just shoot ppl than stand/crouch/prone there trying to type: 'hey mate, I'm friendly don't shoot!' by the time that sentence is typed, your dead, looted and respawned back at the coast.
