I'm guessing he was thinking about the RO2 type system where, the increases are subtle and even maxed barely noticeable. ro2's skills are based around a levelling system, though the increases to accuracy and reload speed for example are very subtle.

well rocket threw around the idea of a stand alone DayZ the thread is still up i believe, its blatant the idea is likeable, I never miss out on hype and impulse buying, although i had played warfare a few times and that was my other driving force in buying my own copy of combined ops. well i hope DayZ takes off just like CS did, it certainly has the potential, if that happens (if it hasn't already :P) then i'm quite sure rocket will get his effort rewarded. even so, would you need much acknowledgement other than the fact that 300k ppl are enjoying something you made? monetary gain is good but that comes when the product is finished ofc. there probably are lots of ppl waiting for DayZ to enter a more stable phase or even until its released so that's something to look forward to.

It stops ppl dropping to the lobby and then jumping back in or, going to a different server, getting in instantly, and then hopping back in a different location, its not a cure its a hindrance. the idea is to just make it less viable, you wanna make it so that hopping is worst than staying, then you have cured the problem.

randomly changing the position on the map is a crappy idea and extremely flawed in many ways, not to mention it has no real explanation of why you magically ended up miles away from where you last logged off. no ive said it before and ill say it again, if you want to stop server hopping place a timer in the lobby, which you have to wait for, its really as simple as that, and no more demanding than waiting for a round to finish on counterstrike. join server, wait 2-3mins in the lobby, join game. if you dc you have to wait in the lobby again before you get into the game. it won't completely stop the problems but it does make them less viable, you can't determine if a player will still be near where you logged off so trying to hop behind someone becomes basically impossible, and well hopping just becomes pointless because if you need to wait 3 mins to get into the server, hopping between 2 servers makes you wait for 6 mins total, which is not far from the time it takes loot to respawn, so in essence hopping for loot is then practically void. disconnecting to avoid death is penalized because you need to wait, it would be less of a reflex if players knew they'd have to wait to get back in. a fool proof plan may be impossible with the current way multiplayer works in the arma 2 engine until some sort of system is designed from the ground up with new functionality that stops ppl logging off when in the proximity of other players, even that system has a flaw because teams log off together. also timers of 30 seconds aren't long enough, keeping your body in the world for 1min isn't a solution either, it just penalizes everyone for logging off. figure out a system that doesn't just screw everyone for the sake of a meta game, place a method or incentive in the game to keep players on one server.

maybe the bear trap code was ready to be tried, maybe the fixes for the bugs that are already apparent isn't ready yet, whatever the reason, development follows a path laid down by everyone associated. things get fixed when its ready to be fixed, not when its inconveniencing you so much that it needs to be fixed 'NOAW BECAUSE I WANT TO PLAY WITH NO BUGS' if you want that, come back when its released, and stop whining about how these patches are not being delivered the way your almightiness desires. or better yet go make your own fucking zombie game and implement the features and fix the bugs you obviously know so much about, and also what is priority. 'i designed the os norad runs on why do you not listen to me and fix bugs so i can play why add bear traps when there are 1000s of hackers' omfg.

yeah the map is pretty big, big enough so that at the start you don't necessarily need to run headlong into the most dangerous places. its the same for nearly all games that have a progressive style gameplay, RPG's are always considerably harder when you start, then they level out a bit mid way, then the difficulty ramps up again at the end. don't go to cherno or elektro, go to balota or run around looking in deerstands, there are considerably safer ways to gear up instead of doing suicide runs into the big cities.

Safe way to move primary weapons from and to backpack?
heathy87 replied to ALICE666's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I stopped carrying 2 primarys because its too bugged atm, you never get chance in the heat of the moment to switch between the 2 anyway, just stack up on mags for one primary and your good to go. if by chance you do get 2 good weapons from a crash site or something, the only safe way to switch weapons as ppl have said is to find a nice open flat bit of land and drop your primary then take the other from you bag, then picking up your first and putting that in the bag. its a bit iffy, i've managed to drop stuff on slopes and have it create a loot pile, but it may not work all the time. -
Battleye bypassed. Rocket burned out. The end of DayZ?
heathy87 replied to jafit's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
whatever, there will always be ppl that hack so, best you can do is either rent your own server and police it yourself or, join servers with admin presence that way if someone does hack, there's a large chance they will be banned before the weeks end. Its not like this is the only game to ever get hacks, i joined 3 random BF 3 servers a couple of weeks ago, joined one, hack with aim bot killing ppl in jets with a sub machine gun, next server, another guy with aim bot and god mode, last server was ok, but 2 in a row, in a triple A game, yeah it happens. best thing to do is to not rage, because hacking is trolling and tears are fuel. -
same, i don't remember it installing or even asking for permission about tool bars, you guys downloaded a tainted installer.

I think the idea is to actually implement features in the alpha, if its bugged that doesn't matter because its an alpha, the whole point of the alpha is to nail down the features you want to stick with for the entirety. why wait any longer than is necessary to add features if they are ready to be tried and tested, why save up 3 or 4 features to implement when you can stagger them and not get confused as to what maybe causing issues. use da brain folks pretty sure the devs know what they are doing, it is their game after all.

The Ability to Police Server Hoppers LIes with Us.
heathy87 replied to justwrath's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
yeah so basically to alleviate this whole problem there needs to be a zone 100>250m around every player that you can't spawn into, if your zone is within theirs you gotta wait till they move away. stops ppl logging off in places they know they will have to wait for ppl to move away from. don't really see a way that isn't broken in some respect. maybe just a timer in the lobby will help, each server you join makes you wait xx amount of time before you can join into the game, that way ppl will be more inclined to stay on one server rather than hop around. -
i persoanlly would love to see third person removed entirely

have you also noticed that for example, shooting in 3rd person is actually not that great, so in all actuality there is a draw back to using it, I use 3rd person but i switch to first person to shoot so, in most cases if i'm using a semi auto for example, then well I get a slight delay while i switch from 3rd to 1st. automatics well, spray and pray works in 3rd person but, its still at a disadvantage when a combat situation starts. i believe its balanced and not necessarily easier, everyone on the server gets 3rd person not just the guy who killed you. it can be used by campers and it can be used to scan for campers, so it works both ways. again this is optional why does it need to be removed entirely if its not effecting you on 3dp:off servers. -

meh duping is cheating, its no different to spawning things in with scripts albeit keeping the scripts limited to whats in game. my team and I managed to dupe a character once just by switching skins, guy died dropped all his gear, logged off and spawned a clone of himself, logged back and was still alive, it was completely random, and happened while doing precisely what is intended in game mechanics. the way i see it, currently the duping is a bug, we looted some of the ammo and tools that day but we didn't sit there trying to reproduce the effect, knowing it basically kills the whole point of the game. I hope there is a data wipe at some point when the game gets into a more polished state. that way these alpha dupes will stay in alpha.

I did hear they weren't into crowd sourcing, but i guess if someone did a good remake of one of the models and was obviously happy to donate it then it would save some time. there was a thread i saw where someone had made some models and there was some interest in it. i'm not sure how far it went.

The one and only Anti-PVP/PvP Discussion thread! Whine/discuss here!
heathy87 replied to Legacy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
if you wanna improve team play just make the zombies really freakin hard, give them insane amounts of health and or damage sustained reduction. if taking out one zombie requires 4 headshots or 30 chest shots, team play will grow exponentially. -
bitching about bitching, the irony is practically chewable in here.

hehe navigation does get tough, there are some areas where its quite easy to think your somewhere else, even looking for land marks doesn't always work so you need to get really creative when trying to figure out where you are. my favourites are matching deer stands to map locations or using the binoculars to read town signs.

you miss quoted me fella i like 3dp thats the point, and i do play on servers with it ON. i would find it considerably harder to play effectively if they removed it altogether.
-
3dp makes you invisible, now i've heard it all. i'd prefer that someone pans the screen round a corner and sees me rather than me having to be stuck in first person and not even glimmer at ppl running in the distance in my non-existant peripheral vision, also crawling, which is what you spend at least 4/5ths of your time doing while around towns, great view in first person, i compare it to that of a screen saver with all the grass just flattening into more grass, which then flattens into even more grass, that is one bit of immersion i can live without. irl, you are much more aware of your surroundings than what first person is capable of showing. 3dp just gives you a bit of that freedom back. there are games that limit what you can actually see in 3rd person by blocking characters and objects that aren't in direct line of sight, maybe that would be a better compromise. the problem with that is you have players popping into sight when they run into your LoS.

after playing so much fallout nv and elderscrolls and wow and other mmo's im sad to say that after my first few hours of dayz, i was looking for the autorun hotkey. i will laugh my ass off now, if in the next steam update 'key presses no longer persist through overlay activation'

good read :D *lights biff*

it would be a daunting task trying to program true realism, if dayz had at least a fraction of realism it would ban you from the server on each death. heck ban you from the game on death, see how many ppl gunho then, there's your realism, whole game ends up populated by 1 person or a handful of pacifists. death is in a semi decent place you start with near nothing, respawning means there will never be that truly realistic element because, hey, your gunna reincarnate anyway. I wonder what a true one life game would be like, i guess it would be dominated by groups of players it wouldn't be fun that's for sure.
-
well its never going to be exact, but it helps. its closer keep it as a setting, if you don't want 3dp, don't play on 3dp enabled servers, problem solved.
-
3rd person compensates for the lack of peripheral vision, obviously you can't see yourself irl, but the camera position in 3rd person reflects what you CAN ACTUALLY SEE in real life. as opposed to having 3 monitors and pumping up the FOV.
