    'new' bandit skin is terribad..

I never understood the argument that Bandit skins were not realistic. It took 2 or 3 kills to get the bandit skin, so there is room for honest self defence. I am a bit suspicious of those who "need" to kill more than 2 non-bandits in self defence.

Playing with friends = good for the community?

Bad_mojo - well done for sticking to your point in the face of some dickheadery on this thread. I agree that it's difficult to even see most of the map without being part of an already organised team with their own teamspeak set up. The game could end up a huge clan war, which is great for those clans who are in it but not so much for others who aren't.

The real reason why it's shoot on sight

    Zedsdead - bit rude, no?

    Thanks for the Bus ride

I was crawling along some coastal village and I heard the toot of a horn. It went past and I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing. I had heard that all the vehicles were horded off map my clans. I crouch-ran to the road and waited. The bus came back and I stood up and saluted...... The bus came to a halt and I jumped on. It sounds stupid but this small thing was a beautiful break from the grinding paranoia that sometimes accompanies a session of DayZ. If I ever come across a bus, guess what I will use my life doing?

    Thanks for the Bus ride

I would just like to say thank you to the survivor who drove a bus up and down the east coast, honking his horn and picking up other survivors. It saved me the leg work of getting up to Brezwhatsit. My faith in what this game can be has been amplified tenfold.

    Hotfix Build 1.7.1.5 Rolling Update

The zombies have been toned down a bit - which is helpful for getting off the beach. Flashlights in belt / side weapon I think works well. Also the night was JUST bright enough for a rummage around a city. (not sure if this was lucky, server specific or changed as part of hotfix) The main thing I have noticed is an increase in friendly behaviour. With no starting pistols, people seem less likely to shoot on sight. Tonight was the first night in ages that I have actually chatted to people in Cherno rather than shooting each other. (Well, them shooting, me panicking and throwing a flare in their direction). I think that these small encounters will stick in players minds and in some cases make for better chances of random teaming. Only negative I found was that I am still experiencing freezes / low fps Keep up the good work Rocket and team.

    Zombies after patch 7.1.1.4

You have a point there, billw, regarding the stockpiling of goodies by 24 hour teams. That's probably for another thread though. I have a slightly different view on the zombies - my point is that I have always had to crawl around in Dayz. As soon as you can hear the filthy cough of a zombie, it's always been nearly too late and have always walked around to try and avoid detection. I'm not sure how people ran past them before. (It's entirely possible that I'm crap at this game, by the way). I personally see no difference in zombie-avoidance from the last couple of updates. It's always taken me AGES to loot a town. The good thing for me now is that I can at least lead the zombies a merry dance and use my non zombie brain to leave them inside houses without having to alert the hoard by plinking at them with a Marakov.
  9. Sickboy - thanks for the instructions on how to launch with Steam. I have followed the instructions and it has worked. Many Thanks
  10. Sickboy - not sure if this is the right place to post but have just updated to latest version (UK time 12.10 Monday morning 18th June) and when I tick the "launch with Steam" option, I get the "Error creating Direct3D 9 graphical engine" message. The game runs fine with the "launch with Steam" option unticked. Is there a setting i am missing? Thanks

IF this was an actual game...

One time purchase for me please. Although I think a Kickstarter campaign could raise enough money to live off the interest for a while... Not bothered about developers as I don't know enough about this side of it. Servers - private. This will avoid the cost to the team and also give people the option to avoid shoot on site / 1st person only / 3rd person view / Bandit heavy servers. Those who like killing EVERYONE can go on those servers, those who like to team up can go on those servers. People would be free to mod their servers as they see fit. This could go down the L4D route of sharing / selling the best mods - i.e. Military bands randomly storming airbases, etc. Also these servers can be avoided if that's not your thing. This way, in theory, different players can find the game style they like to play.
  12. The shame with ALL the "I had to kill this guy before he killed me" people is that they missed out on the rare 'survivors against the zeds' scenarios that crop up. I couldn't give a shit about people on the same teamspeak channel not shooting each other, thats just another clique to me. You may aswell make this game real life where those that didn't go to the same school are fucked... When we come together, that's when the game rocks ten tons of shit - not when dickheads are shooting each other on site once they travel north of Cherno.

    Zombies pwn me

Also Thygrrrr - unfortunately lots of people have hacks. I feel your pain. I have been killed far more from zombies than from other players. Those who tell you it's easy haven't lost characters with full compass, knife, matches to zombies without feeling the pain.... The issue you are probably coming across, if you are playing in EU or UK servers is that by the time you have spawned, people have looted the server and moved on - look for the x loged on, x logged off messages in the bottom left of the screen.
  14. If I may give a view from an older player who used to be addicted to L4d: I imagine rocket is just testing things while at the same time negotiating his next job. The massive increase in players killing each other on site can be put down to: 1 more players (the more in general, the more bad people you get) 2 The fact that most servers dont spell out "player x killed by player y - friendly fire" 3 There is no penalty for it. It might just be that the bandit skin was taken away by Rocket so that he could say to future employers - "look what happens when there is no repercussions, it just goes batshit." Just to prove a point to his possible employers. The dickheads that claim that disconnecting from one server, logging into another server, moving 100 meters to the left, then logging back in to shoot people is valid and what the authors of this game intended are only fooling themselves. Also - those who are loosing the will to play - perhaps join back in a couple of months when stuff has been balanced/sorted out. I am one of you. The very best experience I have had in a game - and it is a game - was on my second or third night when I met up with totaly random players in Cherno. The Bandits in the church were dead / logged off in fear. I grouped up with someone (not sure who) and I followed him to one of the hospitals. In there we met up with 4 or 5 other players who were as lost and desperate as we were. In the hospital we all looted to our hearts content until some zeds started pouring in. What followed was one of the best multiplayer experiences I have had bar the rooftop scene in L4 D. We were panicking like hell, throwing flares off the roof and taking out zeds with winchesters/enfields/marakovs. Players in Cherno were asking to join in, taking out whatever they could and it was joyous... That what this game is capable of. Nothing better can be had. And it is also why people get pissed off when they are killed for their beans by dickheads
