Up-to-date Gun Comparison: CR527 vs IZH 18?
Dagwood replied to tatchell (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
"Taking up a weapon spawn" what does that mean? Diluting the lethality of firearms in the loot table? I don't see what's wrong with that if weapons are difficult to find and field. Ya, if we always have a choice, it's a waste of space. But I doubt it will always be that way -
Up-to-date Gun Comparison: CR527 vs IZH 18?

IzH adds another step to the progression towards being geared. You obtain pistol with no mag but you have rounds. Sweet! Then you find 7.62x39mm rounds but have no weapon to fire them. Rats! Then you find a pretty little IzH in a house to fire those bullets with. Sweet! Then you either shoot some other idiot with it and take his better gun, or you find a CR/sks/mosin etc etc and upgrade to that. Rpg 101 guys. -
Running around Cherno with a roaring chainsaw and loaded AKM on your back is loads of fun. If you haven't tried it, I recommended that you try it at least once.

If there isn't enough loot in the big cities after people play urban combat, they will migrate north. Maybe not on the public hive, but it would happen on private hives. Give it time.

Bullet was probably still rising at that distance, not dropping

Up-to-date Gun Comparison: CR527 vs IZH 18?

Can anyone confirm that the scope bug with the CR is nullified once the rifle is painted camouflage? Had a camo CR and noticed that it wasn't pulling my eye out of scope to chamber mid firefight. I assumed that the new year patch had fixed the bug, but my new, non-painted CR still has the same glitch. -
They also took out military wreck loot because the regional loot control isn't implemented yet. Once it is, there will be many many more places to find mil loot.

I'd personally like to see it continue to accept no optics. We already have the SVD, we don't need yet another all purpose battle rifle. At most, a military-specific "sniper" scope. But an acog or red dot would be too much in my opinion.

Not that anyone else cares... But the CR527 bolting animation has been reworked! Decided to take some pot shots at some zombies outside of zelenegorsk and couldn't believe my eyes. It's similar to the Winchester, but a bit easier to stay on target between shots. Merry Christmas to you, developers!

Had a few firefights in elektro earlier today. Performance was silky smooth. No desync, no frame drops, zombies were persistent in chasing combatants around. And all of this on a 50/50 private HC server. A job well done by the developers. The game feels like it's really coming together.

Need help choosing a loadout/weapons.

Rather than giving up sniping, why not give the CR527 a try? I found one with 2 empty mags discarded in a barracks where somebody had found an sks. Yes, it doesn't have the stopping power that the Winchester has, and it has the weird bolt animation. However, because of these drawbacks, it is a great tool for improving your long range marksmanship. Why? Because you have to go for headshots, and the inability to clearly see where your shots land will teach you to use the in-game map for quick range finding. I have had 3 confirmed headshot kills on underground since I picked it up. Also, the ability to apply a camouflage paint scheme makes it feel that much more badass. Paired with a boarskin pack and silenced 1911, I feel prepared to be underpowered yet prepared for engagements at any range. -
Ya I got an easy double kill in zelenegorsk with my trusty CR527 yesterday on underground when some poor bastards got their bus stuck trying to get it up the hill out of the plaza going north. It's lack of power literally cost them their lives.

The M4 obsession is real. Shame that they will just get hoarded into barrels on empty servers out of fear of being lost.

Freezing my ass off at work, whip out phone for quick Dayz forums fix, read thread, giggling like little girl. 10/10 thread. Well done, clubs.

Don't climb random barns in the middle of nowhere while carrying VSS? Especially after dying to stairs 3 times before.

Any traders that frequent DUG here?

"Nail Bats" and other (realistically) crappy weapons
Dagwood replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
The important thing is that you hammer the nails through to the other side of the bat so they protrude 1/4-1/2 inch. Then, you flatten the remaining "head side" of the nail flush with the side of the bat. This way, you don't suffer the deflection of force that OP mentioned, while you gain the benefit of pointy ends on your club. And pulling a few 1/4 inch nail heads out of bone or tissue isn't going to require more than a heavy tug leading into your next swing. Hammering the nails in half way with the head of the nail hanging out may look more intimidating, but is ultimately pretty stupid. The nails could be put to better use in innumerable ways. -
But what about the zombies!?
-
Forget about the Winchester. It's all about that blaze double rifle.

I don't agree with your assessment of the CLE. I believe it will drive player movement around the server. Yes, on full 3pp public servers, you will always find that gang of tacticool roof campers in elektro or Cherno. But private servers, like the ones I prefer to play on, are entirely different beasts. No server hopping the coast, and no server hopping mil spawns. So when the coast becomes barren of useful supplies, players will move to other locations to find them. Then, if all of the action is around the west/north west, loot will move away from the bases and into the nearby small towns, forcing players to move on. If you don't like the clusterf***ing around the coast, I recommend you try out a private server. My guess is that most people that don't like coastal debauchery but continue to play on public servers are either hopping for their loot or just ignorant of their options.

I think the incoming FAL will be/do exactly what you have in mind. Same cartridge and essentially the same functionality in a similar platform. I am a big fan of both, and was in the mod, but I think development resources could be better utilized elsewhere. If they are going to add another high power military rifle, my guess is that it will be a bolt action rifle (we already have SVD and FAL; both semi-automatic.) This doesn't mean we won't get that kind of diversity in the future. It probably just won't happen for some time.

Meet player in town/base/city/coast/wilderness. Run 5 minutes into the woods. Safe zone achieved.

Here's what I understand of development thus far: Dean took the arma 2 game and engine and tweaked it to make the dayz mod. It was like no other game before it, and despite all of the shortcomings and drawbacks, it was universally accepted. Then they decided to make a standalone game. Initially, I believe the plan was to spend a few hundred grand and polish the mod up, round off some of it's rough edges, and make a quick buck on another installment of the already popular mod. Then they sold a million copies in one month. Now they had $30 million lying around that they had not anticipated. That small project with a small budget had become BI's most profitable game. They could have stuck to their original plan and finished the game quickly and not spent too much time or money on it. Instead, they decided to overhaul the entire engine and make dayz a full scale title with unique engine etc. It's like deciding to invest $10,000 into turning your 2001 honda civic into a street racer, and then all of a sudden you have $500,000. Do you dump that $$$ into your low potential civic, or do you scrap some of it's parts and install them into a new Subaru? Dayz's development has been retarded by the huge influx of cash that the initial alpha release brough with it, but ultimately, we will be rewarded with a much better final product. Just gotta be patient until we get there.

Why can't they take something out that they later realize was a mistake to incorporate in the first place? Maybe they don't think it "makes sense" to have 3pp in a survival game that is populated with unintelligent zombies that can't see over walls. If they did, why would they talk about removing 3pp? Your argument: some people like 3pp, therefore, 3pp must be included to accommodate those players. Why the logic supporting your argument is inappropriate: some people like using hacks and/or scripts, therefore, hacks and scripts must be included to accommodate those players. You said that others' opinions should not influence your own opinion. Maybe the developers feel the same way. They think 3pp cheapens the experience, and they don't care if you disagree.
-
People need to stop thinking the developers' only concern is how to please the masses and make more money. They already made $60 million plus. Ever think about how it would feel to make a game that doesn't play the way you intended it to? You think the makers of the modern warfare franchise liked seeing people running around spamming GLs instead of playing it more "fairly"? Maybe Brian and some of the other developers are tired of seeing the same old roof camping/wall peeking videos on reddit everyday. The game is more intense and hardcore in 1pp mode. Period. They want their game to be hardcore. 3pp is interfering with THEIR vision, so they want to promote 1pp. You're lucky they didn't just pull a rust and remove it entirely. If you leave: good riddance! They already got your money, what do they care if you hang around? The putrid stench of self-entitlement present in this community is sometimes unbearable. Threatening to drop a game like dayz entirely, because of a change in camera perspective, is pathetic. Also, watch the dslyecxi video about camera perspective. He is probably the best tactical FPS player in the world, and Bohemia even supports literature he has produced on how to properly play their games. He's not your average neck-bearded-computer-chair-commando: he's the best. If you have points to refute his, please share.
