A Plea To The Devs For Law And Order in Dayz SA
Dagwood replied to freeman83's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Think Stanford prison experiment. Lots of people would just take it too far and very little good would come of it. We already have enough trouble with admins abusing their power and lessening the experience for others. We don't need to build a legitimate mechanic to allow more game ruining by one player to another. If you are really that upset at someone who TRULY deserves to be punished, knock them out and drag them around until you think they've learned their lesson. If you're actually willing to waste your time punishing another player like that so be it. But it should also cost the punisher to exact punishment on the "criminal" -

How about you just hunt down the players that are breaking your "laws" and use some good ole street justice. No phony imprisonment necessary. I know if my character was "detained" I would just play a different server or a different game. I don't want to spend my evening in a cell that I can just walk away from -
A Plea To The Devs For Law And Order in Dayz SA

How are they going to prevent combat logging in the SA? Not saying I don't believe you; I just haven't heard anything about that. It's easily my most hated game mechanic along with ghosting so I hope they can figure out a way to stop it -
I'd be hesitant to play a server with armed AI just because of the endless military loot that would be lying around for everyone to pick up. I'm guessing that server is a complete deathmatch (which is totally fine. Just not for a vanilla dayz experience)

Two words to kill your interesting yet impossible idea: combat logging -
I guess my issue is with the balance of loot. I want to feel like I'm holding something precious when I have a scoped rifle and not like its just another dime a dozen. I think the best way to do this is to somehow keep players from "farming" loot from low population servers. This is my propose measure to combat that exploit (although many in the community probably don't see that strategy as such). If the server population goes from high-low or low-high then you will still be able to join it for 24 hours lets say (if you were already in the server that day)

M16 acog is my go to. Quietest weapon with medium-long range capabilities. I've noticed that players that are much more willing to expose themselves or change cover when they hear 5.56 retorts vs larger, 7.62 rifles. If they have a long rifle they assume that because of the longer range they will be able to put a shot on me before I would be able to with iron sights or a red dot. Or that I won't be able to achieve a head shot at that range anyhow. Plus the built in range finder on the acog makes rangefinders unnecessary. Lately I've been rolling an m4cco as a close range primary because of the shared ammo but I'm considering making a switch to an M1014 with pellets. Is carrying an M4CCO when I already have an M16acog somewhat superfluous? I'm on the fence. Any thoughts?

a BIG fuss over a small update :-/
Dagwood replied to 5mirkeh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Maybe this new update is simulating all of the loot in elektro and cherno being gone because everyone has been ransacking them for the last 12 months -
Got into a fire fight with an m24-toting bandit yesterday. I had m16 acog. I was in the fortified position (factory) and he had to come down a fairly exposed hillside to approach me. So I played the waiting game. But when I finally caught him peaking at me from inside a bush and lit him up, I was only rewarded with dust pluming from his chest from the 3 bursts I pumped into him at <100 meters. My question is how do we know which bushes are bullet proof or what can I do to nullify this glitch/tactic?

Dude, the Zombie aggro radius is a bit ridiculous!
Dagwood replied to HellRaizer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Your character farted? A diet of soley canned beans and semi-cooked meat would create some pretty gnarly gas -
More likely trolls

Us 420 Dallas. Vanilla private hive with medium-high poulation. Fairly active admin that doesn't talk or flex his muscles unless need be. Big selling point for me

Will the new map add anything interesting to see other than Cherno and Elektro?
Dagwood replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Something in the center of the map? How about stary? If you could resist the temptation to squabble over the scraps on the coast for a moment you'd know the most rewarding encounters and valuable loot are in the north. -
Cant understand KOS moaners :s
Dagwood replied to jaytmuk (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Anybody stop to think that maybe players "KOS" because they don't want to take all of the risk/work associated with going into towns/barracks and doing the looting themselves? I know the best equipment I've ever acquired has been obtained from dead bodies; whether I was the one doing the killing or not. I do not kill every single person that I come across and I am usually fairly successful in my attempts to engage in friendly interaction/cooperation. But if I see a survivor/bandit that has a weapon that is superior to my own and I have the drop on them, it is very tempting to relieve them of it. Killing other players does not automatically make you a "cod kiddie" as everyone loves labeling their killers. If anything you should be embarrassed if a legitimate cod oriented player is able to kill you. It's survival of the fittest. Not survival of the most morally pure. -
Teach me the bandit ways!
Dagwood replied to Composite Armour's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Holding up is ineffective because of the ability to combat log. Head shots are the only guaranteed tactic against those cowardly, overly-attached combat loggers. Hopefully in stand alone there will be mechanics in place to enable us to hold-up and rob players. Only time will tell -
Ya it was an orange bush that I was talking about in the OP. Now I know for future reference to assume they are behind bullet proof glass while in these bushes. Thanks

Is there a loot time on helo crashes now or do they still spawn all of their loot when the server restarts?
-
My best attribute is staying focused and not making stupid mistakes. My biggest problem in my first few months was letting boredom/complacency get the better of me and making stupid tactical decisions that got me killed. Survival in this game for me is all about vigilance

I want

Tents are now essentially 3 slot antibiotics. Not worthless. And with all the complaining about not being able to find loot, I don't see why/how the majority of people are hoarding loot

Anyone noticed zeds 'camping' loot spawns?
Dagwood replied to Target Practice (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Maybe it's just a lazy zed that is fed and doesn't feel like roaming around? I don't think it's too implausible that some would choose to stay in one spot and not wander -
So zombies are just a nuisance again in 1.7.7.1
Dagwood replied to kumando's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't understand why people try to label players as either pve or pvp. What's great about this game is that to do either you have to contend with the other. Yes, players are struggling to find loot with the new loot system (which is much more intuitive and gives me a sense of accomplishment when I do find something vital to my survival) and some turn to killing other players to get that important, scarce equipment. But doesn't it make more sense to have players that choose this bandity route to be punished/challenged with zombies that are more difficult to contend with alone? If anything, dumbing the zombies down as they did in the hotfix has just made finding loot more monotonous and increased the propensity to kill others for loot. If we want to encourage teamwork and create a more challenging pve twist for bandits we need to buff the zombies back up to 1.7.7 standards -
With all of the sneaking around and avoiding infected vs actually confronting them with violence, think how boring this kind of apocalypse would be in movie form. Starting today, no more running and hiding. I'm gonna tame the west (er, Eastern Europe?) one bullet at a time. Who's with me!?
-
Player killing should NOT be restricted on roleplaying servers. I can even think of ways to justify spawn killing through roleplaying (prejudice border patrol, psychopathic killer, yada yada) It's amazing how many people fail to understand that this game would be sooooo boring without the threat of bandits (including KOS). Sorry if that last bit was off topic but its getting old listening to people beg for something that would essentially kill the game...

Us lootable journals would be a nice addition. I'd like to get to see how much of a bandit that bandit really was once he's been put down
