  1. Decided to try my first shot at a public hive character yesterday (been playing for six months but have alway stuck to private hives.) I have a few question. Are all public have servers completely vanilla? I would assume so, but I logged in yesterday, hit the military camp south of balota and found an M4A3CCO and then after dying to a glitch trying to grab loot from under the bed I found an M24 in the same spot. Sounds more like a loot intensive server than vanilla but I may have just been lucky. How often am I going to run into hackers? And what cues can I look for to recognize that a hacker is online other than people making accusations in sidechat? And lastly, any recommendations on which servers I should favor/avoid? I never play low pop and idk if there is any consistency to which servers remain highly populated. Thanks for the advice. Dagwood
  2. Can someone please explain this system to me as of 1.7.7.1. Saw at least a dozen crash sites between vybor and stary on us 818? yesterday. I'm also unsure about how the loot timer works with these. Thanks

    If you're killed by infected, they rip your body to shreds and maybe only the primary weapon and one tool belt item is lootable. The rest is damaged beyond use. If killed by another player, it's their responsibility to prevent you from regathering your gear. They can choose to bury you or leave you. Teleporting bodies and such is too phony to be implemented

While I agree that hunting rifles and scopes would be fairly prolific in a real world situation like that being depicted in dayz, I think that every single player having the means to kill other players at long range would throw the game out of balance. Imagine relatively fresher spawns being able to throw an acog (or any 3x+ scope) onto his easily found lee enfield or Winchester rifle. This would put even more of the focus of weapons on defending yourself or attacking other survivors rather than protecting yourself from the infected. If magnified scopes are implemented as attachments, it must be done very carefully. Perhaps scopes that are user-attached rather than already existing on the weapon will have a random zero. For example, an m16 with a 6x rifle scope that was attached by a player could be zeroed anywhere from 100 to 400 meters. I think maintaining some distinction between already top-tier weapons and improvised-to-be-top-tier weapons would help keep things balanced

    Why would you need 7 pistol mags..? Unless you have an m9 that only uses m9 mags that are few and far between you're going to find plenty of mags before you run out of ammo I would think. Oh ya, it's a bad habit thread ha My bad habit is getting too greedy when visiting stary NWAF and lingering for too long. Once you find an m14 and have a sniper rifle in your pak you don't need to then check every single hanger...

    I was thinking about utilizing the new stash system. I think that would be easier to hide than a car or tent. And I could hide it in the middle of things and it wouldn't be so obvious or far away from everything

    Ok that is how it has always worked as far as I understand. I asked for clarification because I heard somewhere that there is now a timer to spawn loot in when a player gets within the proper range (300m?).

    Ya, and while we're at it, we should have everyone spawn in as level 4 wizards with clairvoyance spells so we can just follow a little gold path up to NWAF. Having to communicate and read a map is so weak. I'm trying to pvp with my bros and you want me to utilize real world skills like team coordination and map reading? I thought this was a game, not land navigation training.

    Ya I remember that you little prick. I offer to help you get revenge on someone harassing you and you steal the mre's out of my pack and then the m4 out of my pack. Although stealing the stanag mags out of that snipers pack and doming him was pretty sweet. Serves him right for alt+tab while on the elektro death hill
  14. Because of the zombie claustrophobia exploit that exists in the mod (thanks arma), I feel it would be more balanced to have a longer holster/draw sequence. This, coupled with the less than perfect pathinding of the infected gives players more than enough time to draw a melee weapon. We should be punished with a couple of smacks to the face if we decide to draw our melee weapon out of frustration while being chased.

    I was going to make a comment about how close this will release to the drop of the SA but then I remembered that the standalone is never going to be released. Screenshots looks beautiful. The new lighting is definitely more appropriate for the setting than the default arma 2 lighting other mods use. If you release it sooner there are favors in store for you.     The fifties zero out to 1200 meters and have the fastest bullet velocity of any rifle in or out of the game. They take the least skill of any sniper rifle in the game. Sir.

    What you say about infection and disease from human remains filling that role is interesting. Will there be periodic restarts in the SA that will clear bodies away like in the mod though? Perhaps more of those stinking, fly ridden body piles around cities and military instillations could do the job

    When the SA releases the mod will be irrelevant to survivalists. But I doubt the sacriel type streamers will make the jump

    It's going to be up to the individual to value their own life on a roleplaying level. If you want your character to survive long term you will need to be more conscious about disinfecting everything, gathering multiple forms of antibiotics, etc. There are always going to be KOSers that want to ruin your day. I don't see any mechanic being implemented to dissuade these players from doing just that, but with long term survival being more difficult than hiding in the woods with a water bottle and hunting gear (as is the extent of it now), players won't turn to a deathmatch style of play merely out of boredom. Or at least not on the scale we see it in the mod (I hope). It will be up to you to avoid being killed by these kinds of players. Dean and the dev team will not restrict play style freedom to protect us. Plus, without bandits the game would become static and boring very quickly. Just take it upon yourself to guarantee your survival and let others worry about their own psychopathic tendencies and what that implies about their morality and humanity

    I would not mind the addition of the KSVK or any other "OP" weaponry under one condition: the number of these weapons available in the world hive is controlled and limited. If there are, say, 10,000 players active in the dayz community and there are only 10 KSVKs, 50 DMRs, 100 Mk48mods, and so on and so forth, I can't see it being that big of an issue. At that point you'd be excited to have even seen one of these rare weapons. And the players wielding them would be much more hesitant to camp the coast than they are now. TLDR: not until loot farming of this and other top tier weapons can be prevented

  24. Zombies running in buildings will make running through town a thing if the past. In breaking point the blood suckers can run through buildings. Definitely makes it harder to lose/eliminate your pursuers if you're alone
