  1. Learned recently that the amount of infected and other things that spawn in upon ones arrival to an area is in some way dependent upon the quality of computer running the game (I believe this is determined by what FPS the rig is achieving). Yesterday I played with a buddy of mine on vanilla for the first time in ages (he prefers "more exciting" maps/mods). He has a far superior computer to mine and I immediately noticed that there were far more infected in the area (happene to be zelengorsk). I also noticed that my fps didn't seem to suffer as a result (side note). The increase in infected didn't result in me catching an infection, but I must note that we both had m4 variants and a decent amount of ammo (enough to kill every inhabitant at zelengorsk. Much fun). Oh, and his hero he forgot about has "survived" for 184 days today. Cool. To my point. While I understand that this spawning "mechanic" was put in place to improve user performance, I feel that it also punishes those of you that have spent the extra $$$ to have the smoothest gaming experience possible. Can razor or some other dev please explain to me how this inconsistency in difficulty between different computers wasn't foreseen? Or if it was, educate this ungrateful player who seems to think he knows more than you as to why it was implemented? And if anyone else has noticed this imbalance, let your voice be heard! The more feedback, the better.
  2. Dev confirmation would be nice. I may have come across as whining. Because I'm a whiner. But what I was originally trying to get at is that maybe the big discrepancy among players' moaning/boasting is this difference in PC quality. I'm not a great player and I have not struggled with infection in the slightest. I am beginning to think that this mechanic might be a big part of why.

    And can we please load shells into shotguns one at a time? Much more exhilarating while firing for any amount of time when you know reloading won't take only 2 seconds and you're up close and personal with your assailant

    Ya... My tiny manhood won't allow any "giving-away" of military gear. My OP was a bit vague. I'm more curious as to what the HEs are effective against (buildings, cars, trees). Cause I hate the blurriness of the holo, and if I can't realistically implement the GL, I'm going to seriously miss the sight on the cco I dropped. Also, does anyone know how to toggle between the smokes and HEs with the F key? As of now it just randomly loads one or the other when I load the M203 after equipping it.
  14. I've been playing for about 7 months now and have decided to try the whole loot hoarding thing to keep me busy. It seems like a lot of work but with after finding an mk48mod0 with no ammo while carrying an m4cco and m24 I was disappointed at having to leave it behind (after burying it with the pilot of course). Being an economist, I'd like to know if anyone has any tips on what is the most efficient method for going about building a camp. I'm on my first public hive character, so I guess figuring out which server to build it on is important, as well as the on map location. Thanks Dagwood

    Situational awareness chart

    Loot hoarding negates this kind of thinking. People hoard antipersonnel weaponry in tents or trucks and then go on a rampage. If they die, they run back to their stash and they're ready for some more. Like yesterday. I saw 2 bandits with a dmr and an mk mod go sprinting across the NWAF (something you would never do if you valued your gear at all). So of course I blasted them with my trusty m24. 30 minutes or so later the same two people were slaughtering coast dwellers near elektro. They had a stash and knew that 2 rifles and mediocre backpacks were nothing to get attached to and so they took the easy route across the field. Although I can see how this kind of thinking applies to homeless wanderers like myself, you cannot rely on it to predict the actions of your average opponent or possible opponent in an engagement. Like someone stated earlier, you can never fully replicate the valuation of your own life as is felt in real life.

    Building my first camp/stash

    Update. I found an e-tool and a sandbag on a dead bandit today. I was playing on 3480 with 50+ players online. I have an idea of where (map location) but I'm not sure about what server to build on. I have only been on the public hive for 2 sessions so I don't really know which servers will be around for long. Any suggestions on how to choose a server to host my stash? I prefer sticking to higher population servers btw And thanks for the feedback guys. Some of it has been very informative for me

    Bandits and You

    Think about the difference in intensity level when you're playing alone on a server or even a low pop server and when you're on a relatively higher population server. The fear of bandits or "KOS cod kiddies!!!" Is what makes the game worth playing. If we didn't deep down want their to be bandits or common murderers, we would all rent our own servers and play alone. Or there would be high pop PvE servers. Bandits are like greed. Without them the whole system fails

    Don't get hit by viral infected. You shouldn't be close to any infected when you're in the open and don't stand close to walls. If you can do that you won't get infected

  22. If only 10% of the player base from the mod enjoys the standalone more than the mod, the standalone will be a success for those players. The standalone will put more of a focus upon the difficulties of survival which many would describe as tedious. The players that do not enjoy that kind of gameplay will go back to skyrim, arma, bf3, cod, etc. this game wasn't developed to be a popular mainstream game. It was supposed to he too hardcore for most and rewarding for the few that can cut it. If they prefer origins, let them stay over there. All I want is one full American server and I'll be more than happy

    And with infected raging all over dead bodies and potentially lingering, that stupid, audible fly mechanic around bodies can be eliminated.

    Once encountered a player in elektro who couldn't have been more than 12 based on the sound of his voice. Long story short I escorted/journeyed with him all the way to stary and found him the AK he desperately wanted because "its the best in black ops". It was a challenge because of the difference in age, skill level and experience. But it was also very rewarding getting him through a point blank encounter with a hostile survivor in the tents and out alive. Having a survivor who's life was entirely in my hands was a cool added responsibility I suppose.
  25. Just think about the differences between breaking point or overwatch and the vanilla dayz. It's mostly just the commonality of military, pvp oriented gear. This caters toward players that want to fight other players. And these are the most popular mods right now. When the SA drops I hope a lot of these players choose not to make the switch
