Will the SA actually be a zombie game?
Dagwood replied to mrgrendel's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Didn't read second page... How about semi-scripted zombie behavior that is "activated" by gunfire or players passing through an area. I was thinking like, zombies forming a hoard etc... -
the first time you have a really big killing spree in one place

At first I was sorta disappointed at the relatively small population on my US server (5-15) but there is so much to keep me busy! Also, having milotary grade weaponry spawn in multiple pieces is brilliant; coupled with ammo also being much rarer. I've only been playing for a few days but I'm already hooked. Job well done

This mod sounds perfect, but the lack of western-hemisphere servers makes playing impossible. Anyone know if they are considering expanding to more servers?

How about backpacks can store less if they are damaged. If they are damaged smaller items like matches would fall out

Approaching the tents across from the hospital with a tail of infected close behind I heard the tell-tale zip of a backpack opening. It was quickly followed by "hero in here. You friendly?" I leaned around the doorway quickly and down the sights of my M16A2 I spied a hero carrying an MKMOD. "I'm friendly. Lots of zeds out here." "Lots of em in here too. Let's go." We ran north to a small building, bandaged eachother after disposing of our assailants, and stopped. Long story short, he gave me an SVD he had in his pack with no ammo. He had a cough and so I offered to take him north to a small stash I have near stary. Once we arrived I bloodbagged him and fed him his antibiotics. At this point I made my move. "Here's what happening: if you turn towards me, I'm shooting you in the face. Put your weapon on the ground now. Do it now!" He lowered his war machine and shortly after dropped it. "You helped me, so I am not going to kill you. I am merely trading weapons with you." I dropped my m16 and hefted his MK mod with a half full clip still loaded. "Head south and you are free to go." He began tuning off "Thank ya! Good luck to ya!" All I got as a reply was "I would have given it to you if you'd just asked!" I ran 100 meters east and logged for the night. I'm curious, would most of you consider this kind of drawn out robbery a waste of time? Would you just save yourself the effort and just shoot him from the get go? Or do you see the benefit of this kind of behavior?

The most notable thing here to me is that I drew this encounter out for 30 or so minutes. If I had shot him and looted, I would have been all alone again and been wishing more people would head north. If I am playing for kills, I should play a game where there is more to shoot at and there is less time between action.

Statik, I have seen one bus stuck in a wall in miglioveka and one heli flew over the NWAF. That's all the luck I've had playing that server for weeks. Maybe I need to head to some lower traffic areas to see them...

All about dat US3480. Most consistently high pop public server in the US. You won't see any vehicles, but I suppose that will just prepare you for the alpha ha. There is another popular public server called US659. It is 100% vanilla except for 50% more vehicles, a barracks at balota, and a hospital in zelengorsk (I believe).

Think of all the freshspawns leaving cherno and elektro empty handed. No more beach bums in the SA please?
-
Y'all are thinking too short-term. Let's assume a clan does continue to get to the NWAF at server restart and load up on the best gear before everyone else. This is a predictable pattern. One sniper with a CZ could put an end to this tactic with a few well placed shots into the main rotor of a parked heli. Plus, there will be far less military grade weapons to stock up on. If a clan wants to fill its tents with a AKs and M4s, good for them. The quality of gear available won't scale up as dramatically over time as it does in the mod. This feature will make fruitful loot runs to the airfield less of a guarantee (no loot cycling). As someone mentioned above, this might just promote server hopping and an over abundance of weaponry on the highly populated servers; sinking gameplay down onto paranoid/bored player interactions. Can someone get us confirmation on whether loot will "respawn" once a building or pile has been emptied?

Get your old man to stand in for you. Or a friend with a deeper voice.

DayZ vs DayZero ('vanilla' DayZ mod)

Why not custom skins or some other non game-altering reward for donating? -
Reading the title, I had high hopes for this thread. Unfortunately it was a terrible idea and so I am going to hijack it with a much better idea with a similar concept. You're welcome. Once you meet a player and interact with them in a friendly manor (or not) you can "mark" them as either friendly or hostile. This is to simulate how in real life, you would recognize a person's face or maybe posture and stride at a distance. This feature also helps alleviate the need and problems associated with a humanity system. When you meet a player and he is friendly, you mark him as a friendly (or hero. W/e) and then when you see him hours later from a distance in a firefight or in need of help, you actually recognize him. For this marking system to not be stealth/immersion breaking, the mark would need to be subtle (like a change in perceived facial expression and maybe the heartbeat indicator currently in the mod)

DayZ vs DayZero ('vanilla' DayZ mod)
Dagwood replied to frosti's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You don't perceive* any impact on your gameplay. And those snipers are there because that's where the traffic and action is. New spawns should be leaving those places until they can defend themselves; not fighting over body bags of gear with revolvers. -
Cross bows are effective out past 100 yards. They're illegal in my state for hunting (Oregon) because of how much easier it can make poaching. I agree with you that crossbows are not common. But I think they would be more common than military grade silencers. And if you did find some badass clutching one in his lifeless hands, chances are that he used all of the ammo himself. You're right, crossbows should not be as common as civilian/hunting firearms. BUT, if they only spawned in deer stands and had a drop rate similar to the CZ, they could become a desirable item (assuming silenced weapons become truly scarce).

Crossbows should be as common as they are, but silenced weapons need to be toned way down. We should be seeing people using crossbows as a silenced weapon instead

DayZ vs DayZero ('vanilla' DayZ mod)
Dagwood replied to frosti's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My problem with starting load outs is the effect it has on loot scarcity and fresh spawn mentality. For one, spawning with a 12 slot backpack alleviates the need to find a better pack before being able to carry a second primary (MASSIVE gear upgrade every spawn should have to make). Why? Because it makes sprinting straight into the mainland to hit military loot spots a little more difficult. And the pistols? Think Dobry hill covered in fresh spawns with pistols that were trying to gear up quickly on those pesty snipers. Ruins immersion for those of us that play to survive... -
DayZ vs DayZero ('vanilla' DayZ mod)

For me, the implementation of the quick weapon swap in 1.8 has made dayZero feel like its miles behind. Beans for razor and co for sticking with it through all of the competition and unethical behavior of other dev teams. -
As a few others have mentioned, crafting seems pretty superfluous when the ingredients to craft the end product are less common than the final project. Crafting would make sense if bandages were as rare as bloodbags or main rotor assemblies. At the moment it's just busy work.

Before you Kill On Sight, Try This!...

How often do you guys run into fresh spawns outside of elektro or cherno or balota? -
When zeds run indoors and have proper pathfinding, any kind of pvp engagement is going to be accompanied by a small horde of infectious, fast, alert "zombies". Without sufficient ammo to neutralize all of them (remember, they will actually be able to catch us) you will have to resort to a melee weapon. You get smacked a few times, lose a pint of blood, and now you're worse off than before you started the engagement. People will still kill other players for their gear or just their life. This will never change. BUT, the time invested in properly planning and executing an ambush, ruse (you big dumb idiot), backstab, w.e. will enrich the gameplay for everyone. God, if there is a God, please let Dean Hall release DayZ on Halloween as a surprise. Amen.

Dean Hall just posted an image on twitter off the network bubble area + plus MP testing at 1am prague time

Maybe they want to release it just after BF4 drops to reduce server loads..? -
The alpha will be buggier than the mod when it releases. The mod won't be going anywhere soon
