Yes, authentic is definitely what we want in a videogame. But I also think that the 15 ish kilometers that lie between berezino and lopatino should take more than an hour to cross on foot. That would be a step toward both realism and authenticity. Needing to decide what is essential for your journey to avoid weighing yourself down an tiring quickly would also add to authenticity. You're too short sighted and heated to see beyond your fear of needing to spend even more time between firefights and military base-looting sessions. Some of us want to adventure across chernarus spending days and weeks on characters that struggle to get from town to town; not sprinting from base to base as quick as you can to get the best gear for your next pitched firefight. I can't imagine why else you would be so vehement about maintaining our currently very unrealistic speed and movement. Newsflash- vehicles were incredibly rare in the vanilla dayz mod. Unless you plan on looting up on low pop servers with a car and then hopping onto high populated ones (easy mode), vehicles will not be involved in even 50% of your traveling around the map, and will be inconsequential. Go watch some older dayz mod footage.

During the mod I pretty much low-ran everywhere. That was easily less than half the speed of the current sprint. It's pretty funny how impatient players are now. In reality, the faster we can get around the map, the sooner it will become repetitive and stale.

I think people imagine the world being empty of zombies as it is now when they get scared discussing stamina and weight systems. The reality is that it will be work to maintain the supplies necessary to make a journey across te map. It won't be a boring 2 hour walk across the map at a slower speed than now. Hopefully we'll be forced to hit all of those small towns and villages along the way to the western military bases if we want to survive. Or, alternatively, hunt and forage through the woods if we don't have the equipment/ health to survive the zombies. Hopefully the tediousness and/or difficulty involved in traversing the map will weed out all of the people who are only willing to play this game if they have human targets every 5 minutes. I envision hundreds of bodies along the east coast and the forums exploding about zombies and loot tables being broken and "annoying". Within 3 years, the community will be mainly comprised of diehard veterans who are what dean calls the "core community", and new players that have yet to discover if they are the right kind of people for this kind of anti-game. This may seem counter-intuitive, but this game won't truly actualize dean's hopes until people start putting it away or uninstalling it in droves. TLDR; features that make this game harder and less like other solely FPS games are what dayz needs to thrive. To achieve excellence, this game will need to become unattractively difficult to the masses. In summation, the devs should seriously consider introducing weight and stamina before they introduce vehicles if only to filter out those less dedicated.

CCSD (Chernarus Creapy Stuff Division) Black Forest Infestation Investigation:
Dagwood replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
I can also confirm that Zelenogorsk is particularly rife with infected personnel. Maybe I just spend relatively more time on the south end of town near the military installation, but are the infected in Zelenogorsk predominantly soldiers? If military forces in chernarus moved in force to contain the outbreak, this might suggest that Zelenogorsk and/or green mountain were the source of the spreading infection. Just a thought. -
The skill curve in this game is based upon decision making and risk vs reward assessment. Now that you have your gear, which was your reward while risking the runs through the streets of various towns to acquire, you have little to gain from leaving the tree line you're logged out in. Rather than telling yourself that if you die you can just start over (this ruins the thrill of the game), set some goals (reward) that you can risk your life to achieve. What these personal goals are is up to you. But by going out and experiencing the endless story building opportunities will ultimately make you a better survivor.

How good is the Lomghorn supposed to be?
Dagwood replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
Don't use a single fire scoped pistol at point blank range and a 9mm automatic pistol at 100 meters... Problem solved -
heard someone talk on global,, what's going on?
Dagwood replied to commanderbash's topic in General Discussion
Every time it's happened to me the person has been unaware that they were global. -
Now that we have loads of player feedback on how the item damage system is currently unsatisfactory, how about we start discussing how it can be improved rather than continuing to complain about it. I'll lead the discussion with a suggestion. I like that items take damage when we are shot. It adds an additional wrinkle of complexity to banditry. But as we know, players being able to load their pockets with junk as suto-armor is gamey and unrealistic. As an alternative, items on our person should reduce damage taken marginally instead of as an aggregate up front. Let me explain that in layman's terms. Currently, items on our person absorb all of the damage dealt before our avatar is affected. Instead, having tins of food or helmets in our vests should cause damage received to be reduced by a percentage based upon the durability and quality of the vest items. So let's say a Mosin shot to the chest of a person wearing no clothing is affected by a 0% modifier. Alternatively, a ballistic vest reduces it by 5%, and a ballistic vest packed full of sardine cans reduces damage by 10%. After one powerful shot like a Mosin, the items would be ruined and successive shots would deal full damage with a modifier of 0%. Thus, items still take damage from being hit with bullets and zombies, but players can't load vests full of vests and become juggernauts. Thoughts? Alternative suggestions? Critiques?

AKM is currently the most accurate gun in the game. It has zero dispersion compared to the M4's .1 dispersion. In the long run I hope the M4 is more accurate, but currently it is not.
-
AKM has no dispersion and does more damage and ammo is actually lootable. Obviously the AKM is currently superior. If your play style supports you surviving through the next few patches, I would guess that the M4 is a better choice in the long run. If you plan on getting into several firefights in the next few days: AKM is the clear choice.

Deer Stands - What Do You Want To Spawn There?
Dagwood replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Oh wow they actually revised that poor decision. Bravo. Is this new news as of today, or do you just have the inside scoop? -
People on these forums get so defensive. Yes, his OP and title are provocative, but he's making a valid point (no matter how obvious it may be to some of you). You could always have done something different (alpha genocide as an exception). What y'all should take from this is a more constructive mentality. When you die, don't blame the guy who killed you. Yes, he's a dick. Ya, he didn't have to kill you and he did. But, this is dayz, and you should know better than to put your life in someone else's hands. Instead of playing the blame game, figure out how you could have approached the situation differently and learn from it.
-
Shooting people without speaking gives you the advantage in overcoming that player if killing them is your goal. Speaking gives away a lot. Players in dayz are too concerned with "winning". That's the real problem
-
You're more likely to encounter people on regular servers though since when in town you can see over fences and across streets you shouldn't be able to. But, once you do see someone, the engagement will be much more fulfilling.
-
No substance to any of this. Just negativity. Will set the game up for disaster? Please.
-
Maybe I'm just ignorant, but can you or someone else please explain to me how this is setting dayz up for pay to win? Maybe it will incentivize people to pay others for their gear, but people could do the same now and we've seen that they don't. I think everyone is jumping to conclusions

Deer Stands - What Do You Want To Spawn There?
Dagwood replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Are there items that should only spawn at deer stands? Or that are more common at deerstands than other locations? For example, I think deer stands uncommonly containing 5.56 ammo would add a lot to gameplay. Since heli crashes are currently the only place to find 5.56 rounds and that new CZ-5.56 rifle is on the way, it would make sense for 5.56 ammo to spawn in other places as well. This would keep 5.56 ammo rare and still feed the CZ527. I think rope and burlap sacks should be more common at deerstands as well so that forest dwellers can make a pack of sorts. No need for top end hunters packs. Machetes and matches are also logical. Maybe tents could spawn rarely as well -
Snipers and fresh spawns are the only players in the game...
-
Current AKM also has 0 dispersion. This is obviously not as intended. When AKM has worse dispersion than the M4 (which it will) the AKM won't be as over powered as it is currently. Also, this had nothing to do with the P2W discussion I was responding to.
-
Who would pay real money for an item that they will likely have pried from their dead hands within the week? And if you're going to hide in the woods and touch yourself while you druel over it, money well wasted. I don't see this being a problem at all. Also, for future reference, pay to win implies that if you do not pay, you are at a serious disadvantage. If you played the mod you should know that a rinky-dink Mosin can be just as deadly as your fully kitted AKM. Such pessimists in this community...

So you're telling me that the crossbow and 13 bolts I found last night are worthless? Any word on the crossbow damage being buffed tomorrow? I have an antistab vest, riders jacket, black helmet and black cargo pants with no backpack. If I can't complete this overheating, badass motherfuker with an effective crossbow I'm going to be pretty bummed.

Got killed (somehow), and then it was like salt in the wound
Dagwood replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
He probably shot your backpack. -
Reviving a dead thread: has the crossbow been modified at all in recent patches? Just lost my month old M4 character and want to start using the crossbow. Based on this thread I would guess the crossbow is utter shit, but I'm hoping someone can correct me.

Great Imgur overview of the upcoming weapon CZ 527
Dagwood replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
M4 being able to mount a suppressor will make it significantly better than any weapon that cannot. If you remember the M4CCOSD from the mod, it didn't have the stopping power of the M14/DMR rifle, but the silencer made it superior in many ways. Having ammunition for the only silenced rifle (currently) spawn exclusively at heli crashes seems like the right move to me. Having a (likely) common weapon chambered in the same caliber is odd. -
It's a good weapon for non-hostile survivalists. Good for taking down game at long range, and can also be used in self defense should someone attack you. I would personally rather have a magnum because of the 6-round capacity and speed reloading potential. It also has the highest "swag coefficient" of any weapon in the game according to the files. Whatever that means
