Kind of what I was assuming. I think an MP5 with mags is probably my only chance. Guess I'll have to keep sweating through military bases until I find another mag.

What will people accept for 5.56mm ammo? I have an M4 and only about 90 rounds left on an aged hardcore character. Found an AK101 mag the other day which helped, but I want heaps of ammo. I have friends with fully decked out characters on both regular and hardcore, ad conveniently, they don't play anymore (where I scored my HC M4). Basically, what do I have to trade for 5.56mm ammo on hardcore?

I've never even seen a picture. It's a unicorn

Movement speed while having your weapon raised and clunkiness are two different issues. Which is it that you are arguing needs to be changed? Lumping them together as the same thing isn't helping the discussion move along -.-

Yes, player interaction is the driving element behind dayz's entertainment. But the only player interaction that you continuously mention is player versus player. Yes, many people in the community play this game to kill strangers with their friends. But there are other people, like me, who choose to team up with random people and THEN go look for trouble. If people would be willing to see the other side of the argument and admit even a little of the opposition's merits, the admins wouldn't have to break up every controversial discussion like we're a bunch of grade schoolers. Throwing absolutes at one another accomplishes nothing. Just sayin

Doesn't anyone else think that the firefights in SA are far less rewarding than the mod? The main reason, for me, being the lightning fast flanking maneuvers and UT speed jukes. The mod leveled the reflex battlefield and made the game about quick decision making and steady hands. Reducing our movement speed would be a step backward toward the mod in that regard. Also, you guys know you can strafe at the same speed with your rifle lowered.... Right? Just strafe out, raise your weapon, spray, lower your weapon, and strafe back. That's what i know I do when I paintball and need to do some Rambo shit under fire. I don't jog around with my marker in the ready position like some GI Joe robot. Side note: I use with a phantom stock class marker cause I play fuckin hardcore!

It took me four hours to catch one fish, and the server reset before I could pick it up

Someday, this will be dayz. Isn't it glorious? I stumbled upon a boar earlier tonight and it quickly darted away. The majority don't appreciate that kind of thing, but it's what makes dayz worthwhile -
I love how this entire thread ignores zombies and how our ease/difficulty in scrambling will affect their lethality. A couple of you mentioned breaching and how movement speed affects how effective we can do that. Maybe they don't want us doing swat breaches on scared loners trying to escape the undead. Maybe a guy holed up in an apartment with a shotgun is supposed to have the advantage over the two assholes hunting him with ARs. I wish another studio would release a tactical shooter with permadeath to steal all of these ultraleet fps gamers that don't care about the roleplaying and socializing aspects of dayz. The adreliline rush that is a side effect of permadeath is why these players play dayz. If you want a game that allows you to perfectly project your tactical combat abilities at a 1:1, there are numerous other titles that strive to do so.

New system requires more dexterity and coordination to move quickly in firefights. Adapt. Stop bitching just because you aren't as adept with it yet.

Never mind all that, what's the new boomsticks like

Based on that video it looks pretty effective again -
You're willing to trade away close to 1,000 rounds of the rarest ammunition for a tent? I find that hard to believe. If you could obtain all of that, why wouldn't you take the 10 minutes needed to find a tent? As the rebel commander said, get admiral Akbar on the line now!

Regular or hardcore? The server hop is strong with this one :p

"Zombies are hitting me more than once in an entire play session! WTF WHY WOULD YOU MAKE ZOMBIES ANNOYING!!!!???" I wonder what would happen if the game was released with two hives: one with zombies and one without. Based on a lot of the zombie feedback on the forums, I would guess they would be half and half...

Three ammo boxes of 5.56? For serious? I don't believe it.

In numerous patches of the mod you spawned with no weapon and no unarmed melee... Wasn't a game breaker then. Just added another stage to the survivor life cycle. It's both amusing and disappointing how little effort some people are willing to put into adapting to changes. Instead they whine and demand that the developers cater to their exact gameplay desires. Anyone ever think that maybe they pushed this bugged melee system to stable to test ammo scarcity?
-
Idk if I would say it's out of their control. Advertising severs was pretty commonplace during the mod wasn't it? Admittedly those were private hives. And with private hives I would draw the same conclusion you did (characters being marginalized and disappearing altogether.) But with the public hive structure, wouldn't the player be protected and the server host would be at risk to lose out?
-
I agree. We need private hosting companies and they want as many servers up as they can. Which obviously puts their wants at odds with ours. Other than the risk of hosting a server that is never up decreasing demand for subscriptions, why wouldn't my approach be plausible? Just trying to bounce ideas, not dismissing your theory.

In regards to #13... You brought up an interesting point about the ratio between servers and in online population count... What if the number of servers up at any time was contingent upon the current population. Server hosting companies would not suppport restrictions on the number of servers they can host, so maybe which servers are prioritized could be dependent on average server population for each server. Higher average population would equate to more up-time (or initialization priority). The result would be server populations ranging from 20-40 instead of half of the online players being on nearly vacated servers.

Gun sway has been implemented to stable: developers are smashing heads against wall in an attempt to squash the inevitable bugs. Once bug infestation has been stabilized, gun sway will be tweaked: developers will lobotomize, etc... The semi-constructive criticism and subsequent discussion in this thread is good; just keep in mind that it will be repeatedly refined. No need to accuse the game of being broken. It's just awkward and hasn't gotten it's dental hardware removed yet. Puberty is coming!!

Have you ever given guns and ammo to freshspawns?
Dagwood replied to HeroAtDay BanditAtNight's topic in General Discussion
Depends on the situation. Handing an unarmed survivor a loaded magnum or even a splitting axe can be a game changer in a tight spot. Ever heard the expression, " the enemy of my enemy is my friend?" It's a good mentality to hold when considering something like this. Giving an under geared player a shortcut through an hour-plus of looting is dangerous when they have nothing to lose. However, when the situation is dire enough that their survival is not guaranteed should you die, they are less likely to turn your own gun on you; especially if you make it clear that you want to get them into the firefight. For example, you are greeting a low-geared survivor, and after a short time are ambushed by a larger force/superior firepower. Simply saying, "Go fuck 'em up, dude. I've got your back" can be enough to focus their bloodlust in a mutually beneficial direction. It also helps to be pointing a rifle in their face while they arm themselves. As always, no matter how much you think you have someone's intentions figured out, they are still a wildcard. Never stop watching your back. On the other hand, bumping into a bored and simultaneously anxious stranger in a small town and handing him a means to violently interact with his environment is highly ill advised. The lack of attention-span or social skills possessed by your average survivor cannot be underestimated. Edit: grammar -
Based upon what? M4's dispersion has never been better. Now that vanilla M4 (which I am also rocking) is actually somewhat accurate

Loot respawns in a new loot spawn within 1km of where the loot was taken. Get on reddit. Saw an explanation there. Pretty much allows you to cycle solo buildings but not bases or cities

Isn't item permanence counterintuitive to permadeath?
Dagwood replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Item persistence is a big problem when implemented in a pubic hive setting. With thousands of servers available, hiding a tent in a very accessible place on an empty server is laughably easy. Player dies, switches to camp-bearing server, grabs gear, and switches back to populated server. The same feature (persistence) on private hives is a whole different beast. With everyone and everything locked onto the same server, placing a camp and hoarding gear becomes more difficult and more predictable. Players can and were easily tracked back to their stashes in the mod. If you see a fresh spawn sprinting west in a straight line, chances are he's got a camp in his sites. I agree, item persistence in the public hive is detrimental to permadeath and gameplay as a whole. -
Won't see much use!? It's one of the most, if not the most, iconic weapon in dayz. I for one will be ditching my kitted FNX for the first empty makarov I find.

What about the heli crashes!!!? My M4 is thirsty
