Umm... Fire into building full of bad guys: profit. Fire at truck driving by: profit. Fire at freshspawn running down street: hilarity. Not hard to imagine militaristic groups carrying this kind of firepower in a scenario like dayz. I would be more worried about grenade launchers being "over powered" than the RPG. It's a niche weapon with lots of drawbacks. Calm down.

Sks will be easiest "automatic" rifle to find and operate (internal mag). Police wrecks and police stations are a good place to find SMGs and pistols. For attempting to rob people I would recommend an SMG. Surprise is important for robberies, and whipping an SMG out of your taloon pack when you have no primary on your back is pretty surprising. Good luck!

I would be ok with a full auto setting on the FAL only if the recoil when doing so is uncontrollable, as it is with most mid 20th century 7.62 NATO rifles (looking at you M14). If the FAL had recoil similar to other assault rifles in game, it would be the best weapon by a long shot. I know it will already be my favorite because of the round it is chambered in and it's semi auto capabilities. Add to that it's sheer sex appeal, and you have another "M4 status" weapon in the dayz armory. If it's recoil is manageable and it can fire full auto, we will have another DMR infestation like the MOD that will flatten the skill curve.

Looks like a good kit! You can in-fact do everything with a machete that you can with any other knife. No need to carry one in your pack. Also, just to be even more of a space saver, should you care, you could swap out your magnum for a 1911 that also uses .45 rounds. I wouldn't even bother carrying extra 1911 mags or magnum speed loaders. Hell, I wouldn't even carry a pistol at all if it weren't for the holster you're wearing. I forgot one very important thing in my original post: heat packs. These can be life savers when you are sniping/camping during a rain storm. Nothing worse than battling temperature loss when you're trying to avoid unnecessary movement. Having a heat pack or two to crack can give you the extra time you need to set off an ambush or stay low unil the time is right to move. Just curious, how much space do you have free with your current setup? One thing I noticed that you don't have on your list is improvised suppressors. They are more important when wielding an SVD than with any other weapon. Anyone that hears an SVD shot ring out is going to drop whatever they're doing and come after you.

He was moving items as they respawned. Also, I would ditch that mountain pack for something smaller asap. You have all of the firepower you could ever need, and losing items that rare would probably be deveatating. It's time to start moving slow and hunting people. A large vest and an improvised pack should be enough; coupled with the hunters clothing you're wearing. Your main concern now should be stealth. That mountain backpack is very obvious at a distance, especially if you're lying around scoping through your beautiful SVD. I would recommend only carrying two extra mags for each of your firearms at most. I generally only carry one spare and keep the rest in loose piles that conserve much more space. The chances of you rattling through 3+ mags in rapid succession are slim to nil. Here is what I would carry: 1-2 stacks of rags/bandages 1 stick of morphine 1 saline IV (optional) Machete on back Can opener (optional) Mags and Ammo Binocs Map Compass Charcoal tabs 1 water bottle (optional) Leather sewing kit until you acquire bone hook Sewing kit Back up rain gear (boonie cap and raincoat) Improvised suppressors as you can find and make them with water bottles and tape. Most things after that are superfluous. You've reached a place where you don't have anywhere to go but down. No need to loot in high risk zones, and no need to carry unnecessary gun parts on your person. It's both a blessing and a curse. Use this as an opportunity to learn how to hunt people, and use evasive tactics to survive. Remember, you have no need to loot any bodies that you create/find now. You can just drop targets and get out. Improvised suppressors are great for this. Also, don't be afraid to run when the situation becomes disadvantageous. Best of luck to you. Don't die or you'll never forgive yourself ;)

Maybe on 1pp only servers. But on 3pp servers it would be detrimental to gameplay if everybody could just lie down when they come under fire and periscope their surroundings while invisible. At least in 1pp they would be blind to what was going on around them until they got to their feet. But I do generally like your idea

I was at NWAF yesterday in my M65 jacket while it was pissing rain at night. Thought I would do a quick run through and then GTFO. Instead, my sporter saw 2 armed players approaching the tents from the SE. I was at the Quonset on the west corner of the airfield. As soon as I stopped in a building to watch them I got the rapid cooling message. To combat this, I sprinted in circles around the large industrial shed next door, stopping every 30 seconds or so to take a peek. It worked, but I felt pretty silly doing so. I eventually charged into the tents after them where my hail of inaccurate CR75 shots merely sent than scampering into the woods never to be seen again. Damn rain.

I agree, as do the developers. Give it time. Games not done yet.

Day Z as it should be : The Earth Abides
Dagwood replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
If I had a suppressed weapon, I would be pretty damn careful about not getting into stupid firefights if zombies are a real threat/nuisance. Going from silent bringer of death unto the infected back to unarmed fresh meat would be pretty good incentive. I'm telling you, proper zombies are the key. I'm hoping that this time they're taking to rehash the zombie AI means that we'll get something better than we've seen from any game of this genre. Fingers crossed! -

Game needs an X-factor. Zombies can be X-factor. I have 30 rounds for sks and food etc. I get cornered by zombies in house and am forced to expend 25 rounds and take a small beating. Now I have infected wounds and I've alerted any hostile players in town to my presence. Situations like the above will make dayz fun again. Let's hope .60 really changes the game. -
It's like in real life. The fish don't hop out of the pan and tell you that they are done. They change color and you can tell they are done. That icon change was your queue that they were done. Are the poisonous to eat? No idea, but in 0.57 a change in color without a change of the name meant it was safe to eat. Hope that helps.

Looking for a good role play server.
Dagwood replied to VladimirAzarov's topic in General Discussion
It's actually pretty funny how surprised/scared people are when you approach them with AR in hand and offer them assistance rather than a hole in the face. "Hey, you alone?" "I'm alone I'm alone! Please don't shoot me." "...ok. You need anything? I've got ammo for that Mosin." Disbelieved-pause* "What?" But you're right, there are still those murderous basards about. Ran into a trio of canibals in Zelenogorsk a week ago. Ended violently. Then a ran into a guy in a skull balaclava in stary and we exchanged ammo and then parted ways. Seems that the flavor of player interactions are actually based upon the quality of the players involved. Who would have thought? -

Dayz underground is a server that promotes roleplaying and interaction, but does not mandate it. People from clans with unique quirks and flavors, you generally run into "more talkative" players in your travels, and the server hosts events now and again. However, players will still KOS on this server, and no matter how fucking hard you play that role, you still might get shot without warning. Oh ya, and it's 1pp only :) -
All you Hardcore players packed it up and left?

Dayzunderground: almost always full UN Clan servers: generally full-ish. I watch an English player named Dannyy. I'm guessing he plays on EU based servers. Whine less and look harder perhaps? ;) -
New weapon mechanics - 23rd of Sept Dev blog
Dagwood replied to preacherlr's topic in General Discussion
Correct me if I'm wrong, but does this mean that we'll need to map each individual magazine to a different hot key? So like, if I had 2 spare mags for my AK, I could map one to 1 and the other to 2 and when I wanted to load one, I would press the corresponding key? So let's say I reload with hot key 1, if I press 1 again I would be loading the original mag back into the gun? Why don't we take this a step further: hot keys should be tied to different pieces of clothing. A vest gives you some 1-4 slot hot keys, jeans give you some 1 slot hot keys, and a taloon pack would maybe give you none. I don't think being able to punch a key in combat to quickly yank a mag out of the bottom of you mountain backpack makes much sense. For instance, you have an assault rifle with 5 mags and a press vest. 1 mag is in the gun, 3 mags are in your vest pouches, and 1 is in your backpack. During combat, you could use 3 different hot keys to load the mags from your vest, but to load the mag from your backpack, you would have to open your inventory and manually drag it over. Just a thought. -
ATLAS Bipod thread: once and for all

Chose AKM because of ammo availability. Had an aug and burnt through 60 rounds alarmingly fast. I'd like to be able to throw down some real suppressing fire should the opportunity arise. -
ATLAS Bipod thread: once and for all
Dagwood replied to IgnobleBasterd's topic in General Discussion
So now I can turn my super-recoiling man cannon into a proper support weapon!? I recently swapped my thirsty aug out for an AKM. During my first encounter, my well constructed ambush was foiled by an uncontrollable bout of recoil after a short blat. Fortunately he didn't know how to serpentine and I was able to tag him as he ran away. What is the recoil like once the bipod is deployed? Do you have to be prone to receive the bonuses? -
How exactly can i get an m4 without killing someone?
Dagwood replied to Kiwiyellow5's topic in General Discussion
Umm, I would say IzH rifle and longhorn are more similar to chambering cause it's the only way to use them. But I also love the CR527. Having to find the mag to get it running optimally makes it more satisfying for me to use once I do so. Plus it's considered a suboptimal rifle compared to the blaze and Winchester so it's got sort of an underdog feel to it. -

Anyone feel like hunger/thirst have been out of whack since forever?
Dagwood replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion
My apologies for offending you, miss. It was not my intention. The point I was trying (and failed) to make, is that creating an authentic experience is more important, and enjoyable, than making a realistic one. Yes, it is "unrealistic" to become dehydrated in 30 minutes after stuffing yourself with 3 liters of water, but it forces you to make careful considerations about how and when you get that water; just like you would when planning a long, slow trek across a similar distance at real life speed. TLDR; Authentic experience > than realistic experience. -

FAL will be new king I'm sure. Battle rifles are ideal for the open expanses of chernarus. I wonder if they will be optic-compatible... -

We shouldn't be able to heal from an AK round to the chest after an hour either, but I don't hear you complaining about that. We shouldn't be cake to hump 60 pounds of gear from one town to another at a sprint. We shouldn't be able to do a lot of the things we get away with in this game. Being forced to feed and water your mule a couple times a session isn't a big deal, especially with the current abundance of food. If digestion rates were realistic, it would be a nonfactor. It's supposed to be a survival game, and finding sufficient food and water is part of survival. When stamina and all of the other mechanics are included, I'm sure you'll get your wish, but I doubt we'll be tripping over cans of beans around every corner like we are now. Give it time.
