Honestly, I think the painted fire axe looks kinda stupid anyway... In addition to my opinion, it makes sense for the best melee weapon in the game to not be the best camouflaged. Now the splitting axe I insist on using has a tactical advantage and not just a survival one!

I feel fairly confident in saying that the blaze can deal out more damage, at range, in .5 seconds, than any other weapon in the game. 2 7.62x51 rounds in the chest at 50 meters is much deadlier than a 2 round burst from any automatic rifle in the game currently. However, it's damage output compared to those automatic rifles after one second drops off dramatically. As someone stated earlier, it is important to stick and move when using this rifle to avoid being outgunned and over powered by higher capacity rifles. An interesting little rifle that should never be underestimated when in the hands of a practiced marksman.

Fairly certain I remember reading a post mentioning random ammo boxes in large fields, but no other loot. This leads me to believe that heli crashes still spawn every restart. However, only containers and rifles will consistently survive the restart (or a few restarts). If my hypothesis is correct, this means that if you stumbled upon a crashsite from a previous "restart period" that spawned a rifle or ammo box, the item would still be visible and lootable. On a side note, does anyone know how far away rifles will render and be visible to the naked eye? Through optics?

Stop server hopping. Instant karma at work.

Fill your backpack with canned food then go run 2 miles. Then find a steep hill and run up it. Then run 2 more miles. Then come back and tell us if you feel the same way about the uphill movement speed. Extra credit: do this all in long grass.

Not everyone has taken land navigation and knows how to get unlost. Using the online map instead of the in game map to navigate doesn't help either.

Or because he's in the NW corner of the map and the ruts and gullies you mentioned are not fully developed (no water).

Removing the LRS from the Mosin and granting the CR527 the ability to mount it would do loads for gameplay. For one, it would make choosing between a Mosin-PU and a CR527-LRS a real choice. BUT, the movement speed needs to be lowered first if a7.62x39 bolt action rifle is going to be effective. The damage model is different from the mod, so follow up shots are likely needed to land the kill on a moving target. Can't wait for the day when I can roll with a scoped CR527 and an AKS74U in my pack. It will be a glorious day indeed.

Military bases on broken loot servers are a great place to run into players. Be wary oogling over the piles of loot. I got ambushed doing that today and killed another while he was doing the same. Luckily the aggressor missed 40 times and I was able to get away and kill him easily as he dealt with zombie agro. He had 35 rounds left in his drum haha

Time to reduce run speed with vehicles inbound?
Dagwood replied to Bororm's topic in General Discussion
This. When coming under fire, it's currently too easy to just run away, instead of being forced to fight back or dig in. Forget talking your target down. You're pretty much forced to shoot first and hope you knock them down in the first hail of billets. Slowing the movement speed down would solve this problem quite easily. -
Sawed off will ruin everything on their person, but make the kill easier. 1911 will be more likely to preserve M4 mags ;)

3pp Will trade a purple polka dot bandana for an AKM mag or AK74u mag. I'm in Zelenogorsk

Medic here. Everyone is starving to death
Dagwood replied to spuddy0108's topic in General Discussion
Just hopped on 3pp to see if loot was as scarce as everyone is claiming. Without drinking from any ponds, I was able to finally get fed and hydrated after about 2 hours. I almost died of dehydration as I hit Zelenogorsk, but luckily found a 6-pack of pipsi after breaking my legs in the jail. Dying of hunger or thirst is definitely possible on persistent servers, but can be overcome with some determination. I even found an AKM and an AK74U which I now have chambered to back up my mak. Moral of the story: quit bitching and persevere! -
Medic here. Everyone is starving to death
Dagwood replied to spuddy0108's topic in General Discussion
Curious, are players starving to death on the western side of the map? I am away for the holiday and haven't even able to play. I usually assume these threads whining about no loot are made by coast dwellers. But, this is my first patch with persistence, and I am ignorant to its effects on a server after a few weeks. Can someone enlighten me? -
AK74 can be placed in backpack and complimented with Mosin LRS. Nuff said

Time to reduce run speed with vehicles inbound?
Dagwood replied to Bororm's topic in General Discussion
During the mod days I crouch-ran everywhere anyways because of the greater threat of being seen by other players. This was the case because there were fewer military bases which made gearing up more dangerous. When the player cap is raised, and the chance of seeing other players is increased, sprinting will be more dangerous and players will be forced to slow down. I still think the sprint speed needs to be decreased so combat can be slowed down and tactical firefights can see a return. -
What I wann know is whether or not the current vehicle implementation has the collision coding to support running over other players. I miss the days in the mod when I would come running out into the street, screaming for a ride, to only get splattered all over the road. Good times.

Just hopped on my over geared hardcore tune near versenik. Ran up to the southern barracks under a rain of hellfire that ineffectively clanged into the barracks glass. I panicked and fired an entire clip while strafing to the right behind the southern wall. After reloading and working my way around to the south eastern gate. Got in a nice spot to watch the door from just north of it (I could see along the front of the building but not inside). A survivor soon poked his head out the front door and after a few quick gopher peaks he made a run toward our previous contact (away from my current location). I gave him a few quick bursts in the back and charged after his telltale blood spurts. Upon crossing the front of the barracks to the other side, I saw a second assailant just behind the camo building. I quickly doubled back, avoiding a hail of gunfire. I reloaded (mistake) and attempted to flank around the back of the barracks. Once I reached the tail end of the building, the second assailant rounded the corner. I held the trigger down, my heart pounding as i strafed left, doing my best to keep my crosshair on his torso. He fired 1 shot and killed me. Playing drunk is fun, but can get weeks old characters killed in a matter of seconds.

Lead Producer of DayZ says, "1PP is better"
Dagwood replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
Easily-enraged-forum-warriors are easily enraged. This discussion doesn't need to come to a decisive conclusion until one format negatively affects the other. I'm lucky enough to live in a region that has several populated 1pp servers on a regular basis. Do I think that 1pp only is better? Yes. Do I care that the majority of players play 3pp? Nope. -
Lmg wasn't OP in mod, why would it be in SA? AKM with drum isn't OP. Nuff said

Pump shotgun is more forgiving than the sporter. Killing a charging and weaving assailant with a sporter takes some skill. You'll need to land 5+ shots to kill someone wearing a pristine jacket and vest/holster. If they have a shotgun and you don't land those shots in time, they'll put you down while you're scrambling to reload or relocate. Pump shotgun takes one shot to the neck to put them down. Notice that I said neck and not head. The spread of the shotgun makes landing headshots much easier when you're panicking to get a quick shot off. Or, if you seriously panic (like I often do), a blast to the legs followed by a quick charge past them will leave them immobilized and unable to quickly shoot back (assuming you're behind them). If you like shooting zombies though, the .22 will get you into less trouble in high traffic areas. It's quiet and you'll never run out of ammo.

Pump shotgun is the best "looting weapon". For looting, you don't need to make mid to long range shots. You need a weapon that can save you if someone has the drop on you. Pump shotgun can do that. Suppression capability and one shot lethality make it an easy choice for me.
