  1. Is the helmet new to 0.52? I haven't seen one yet
  2. When you loot villages, hit every building in town. You'll find it sooner or later. Military trucks and tanks are also good places to look. If you keep heading west, you'll find one (a base) eventually.
  3. I'll admit, it's a good place to meet/see people. But if you want to survive for any length of time, it's not te safest place hangout.
  4. Those first few avatars are the hardest to lose, I know. Keep joining mid to high pop servers and just explore and learn the mechanics. When you get bored, head to the coast and get into trouble. There is no right way to play. Experiment with different styles and strategies. It will keep the game fresh. And please don't listen to the mouth breathers that will tell you not to get attached to your gear. That attachment to your gear/character is what makes dayz great.
  5. If you're new to the game, I recommend staying away from online maps and other shortcuts that are available on the intermets. When you spawn in, find a road that goes inland/uphill and follow it. Loot towns that you stumble upon. Get lost following windy roads through the hills. Loot more towns. A backpack is important for carrying things, yes. Early on, grab all the ammo for all the guns. You never know what rifle you'll end up finding first. Eat food as you find it. Most importantly, enjoy your ignorance while it lasts. Discovering things for yourself is much more rewarding than repeating what you watch on YouTube.
  6. Killed out of nowhere in elektro? Elektro is where survivors go to die. No matter what server you're on
  7. How does one casually grind for mounts? I'm a casual. Bahaha you like wow. So did I. Own that shit, dawg.

    Appearances can be deceiving.

What do you suggest I tear into rags when all of the gear on my body is ruined and I'm bleeding out? That face bandana has saved my life twice now. Why you gotta be such a dick, man? You used to make such thoughtful posts that I really enjoyed reading. Now you just fling vitriol feces with the rest of the forum warriors. Such a shame.

First of all, take a deep breath. It's ok if we don't agree right away. PVP=player versus player. Player kills player. Pvp PVE=player versus environment. Players is killed by environment. PVE "Learn to differentiate" how rude. Skill/loot curve refers to how different or "better" gear can affect how effective a player is at surviving or preventing other players from surviving. By watering down the loot tables with inferior gear, like pistols, it takes more time for us to find the more desirable equipment. This leads to players that survive longer generally having better gear, and being more effective at survival or in combat. And finally, this leads to those players with the better loot being more cautious to protect their stuff (assuming it is difficult to acquire). By making adequate/suitable gear easy to come by, death becomes less detrimental and gameplay becomes less authentic and unique. Yes, pistols are stupid firearms that are inferior to shotguns and rifles in nearly every way in this game. Yes, pistols would IRL be less common in a rural setting than hunting firearms. Does this mean that pistols should be uncommon and reserved for dolts that think they're cowboys? No. From a gameplay balance standpoint (which you hate for some reason) it makes more sense for pistols to be starter weapons that get replaced or complimented with superior firearms as our survivor moves up in the world. I fail to see how balancing in the form of more readily available handguns negatively affects any playstyle in anyway.

    Appearances can be deceiving.

Tieable face masks can be torn into rags, and are far from useless. When I plan on playing nice and then holding people up down the road, I dress as "friendly" as possible. When I'm playing as a long term survivor, I carry military weapons and look intimidating as fuck. Come on guys, don't judge a book by its cover! And obviously this guys a canibal. Why else would he need all of those bladed weapons?

But because this is a PVE/P game, the balancing of the loot tables needs to cater to both pvp and PVE needs. While I agree that shotguns and rifles are more useful for survival, every freshy picking up a rifle as his first weapon would flatten the skill/loot curve and devalue prolonged survival. Having a pistol in addition to a shotgun or rifle makes it a luxury. Having a pistol instead of a rifle or shotgun puts you at a disadvantage.

    Anybody seen a hackasaw ?

Second floor of "camo building" is a good place to find them as well.

    Weapon and ammo rarity

Finding a primary rifle and ammunition for it should not be guaranteed with every life. That way, once you do obtain an AKM with a mag or two, you're so concerned with losing it, you actually play with self preserverence as your primary objective. Pistols, shotguns, and bolt action rifles should be the most common firearms we encounter. The SKS should be the go to assault weapon. No mag and high capacity/rate of fire. Automatic rifles should be luxury items that are rare enough that hours upon hours need to be invested before you can field one. Ever notice how nobody bothers to use the CR527? Or basically any pistol? It's because 1.) mags make these guns labor intensive to field and 2.) other guns are better AND easier to field Best guns need to be hardest to get going. "Worse" guns go unused in this game, and hopefully this will change with later balancing.

What has been your biggest "I'm done" moment?

When I have an easy kill on a highly geared player and fuck it up. I get really excited and take my only shot out of my chambered pistol and he turns around and blaps me in the dome. Definitely led to some angry chain smoking in the past. Also, had a friend whose 3pp character never died until wipe (6months?). We were meeting up. I was running with a rando between NEAF and krasnostav. My friend told me he was at "the airfield" and I assumed it was NWAF. I saw a guy kneeling in some bushes and shot him in the back of the head with my SKS. My friend immediately says "I just got shot. I'm unconscious". Panic mode engaged, I turn and unload the rest of my clip into the rando I was with. I run over to my friend an administer medical treatment. He barely survived. I quit for about a week after that one.

Maybe you were at a high elevation? I've heard elevation has an effect on temperature

That's why you use an AK74U as your secondary. Fuck the pistols
  19. Long story short, I was wielding an AKM and carrying an AK74U in my high cap vest for a buddy. He died investigating a firefight we thought we saw go down in the NWAF atc. I gave the murderer a warning that I would murder him if he didn't come out with his weapon dropped. Of course he didn't comply, so I gunned him down, and took some sks rounds all over my body for my effort. Point is, I was able to repair my AK74U from badly damaged to worn. TWICE! After that gunfight I got silently blasted in the chest again and was able to repair my badly damaged AK74U again. Don't underestimate the weapon cleaning kit.

    Your Goals?

Fucked up the quote. High at the dentist. Get over it. It would be even cooler if you could play a private server on the public hive, that way if you go and die on a public server, you can just go to the tents of the private server and re-gear in three seconds God why? Being able to do this on the massive public hive is bad enough. But you want to have completely protected loot havens where people can hoard mil spec kits so they never have to take breaks from commando mode? FML this community. Also, by definition, private servers are completely separate from public servers. What you are referring to is "white listed" or "locked" servers.

    Your Goals?

Survive long enough to find heli crash sites without actively searching for them. Even when the loot is so so, that rush when you see the smoke, and the uncertainty about what you'll find is awesome. Often, when I spawn in as a freshie, I tell myself I'm going to use a certain weapon, or dress a certain way, or adopt a different playstyle for that life. For me, this helps keep the game fresh. Always trying to gear out as bad ass as possible gets boring.

Zero loot in many servers, what happened?

Really? That's curious. I haven't experienced this myself. Were you observing this phenomenon inland as well?

Zero loot in many servers, what happened?

This. If he said he hit pusta and pustoshka and other little towns, I'd be concerned with the loot mechanics. But the garages above Cherno? Of course there isn't jack shit there anymore. Find a road and follow it inland. Get lost. Learn the map. Stop crying it's broken/wolf everytime things don't go your way.
