What happened to good ol' DayZ?

Now that you mention the spawning, that is grade A helmet head-esque right there...You could of course run out of Elektro and wait to loot that guy's body but I suppose it'd be obsolete considering he's looking to kill you. Definitely like BF, definitely DO NOT WANT. :p I've never noticed these things on BMRF.me US2, so maybe try that server? :)
  2. I'm looking for someone that plays mostly on the weekends, is 13 years or older, is mature, from the US, and preferrably on the east coast. I like to have fun and even screw around sometimes, so I also prefer someone with the same attitude. Skype is preferred, but TS is fine too. And of course I want a player with some good skills. :) Pm me for my Skype and we can get started tomorrow evening!
  3. Not necessarily. People often don't even think about Skype being a realism issue as long as they're able to communicate with their friend, primarily because they think that since they were teamed up before they started, they were meant to be together in game in the first place. Because we all primarily use Skype as a means of finding a friend since side chat is too obvious, right? Plus where is the realism in knowing someone without getting to know them first in game? Saying that you want Skype gone is essentially saying that you'd rather partner up with someone in direct communications (which is nearly obsolete these days, not many people would do that, henceforth making any communication pointless). Your argument is certainly fair but I can see people overlooking Skype as a realism issue simply for the convenience of thought. Maybe not the people on this forum, but only about 1 in 100 players are on this forum. Not to mention there are countless double standards that many "realists" want to happen.

Starting loadouts most definitely aren't a problem. I never donate money to servers (because I've already paid for the game, ya know?) but I can easily get ahold of a decent weapon. The people that have starting loadouts generally have them because they aren't good enough to find the guns they bought. Henceforth, it should be easy to take them out. I accept these people as a challenge. :} I don't know what server you're talking about exactly, but I know the server I played on (BMRF.me US2) didn't say anything about PvP IIRC. To be clear, I used the DayZero launcher to launch the server. And I can also say that based off my experience not everyone is a KoS'er.

What exactly do you mean by pay to win? I've never encountered anything unfair in the servers that involved paying. Also, PvP isn't a problem; it's a game mechanic. If you don't want PvP, you're essentially denying one of the biggest aspects of DayZ and should go to something like L4D.
  6. I like to think about it like this: If I'm magically talking to someone 2 km away using Skype, then why shouldn't I be able to loot my old body? The realism people want to implement in this game is generally a double standard IMO.

What happened to good ol' DayZ?

DayZero has got to be the better mod for DayZ. The sounds are revamped and everything is improved overall, really. Once on BMRF.me US2, I was in an Elektro fire station, badly wounded and on the top floor, eating to regain some health. All of a sudden I hear someone in direct communication say, "Hey guy in the fire station, you friendly?" I felt more relieved than anything, as I thought I had seen or heard a player earlier. I let him know I was friendly as long as he did not come up to the top and that he could help himself to the loot below. He says that he is low on blood as well, and soon died from zombies. I ran down to loot his body, but the fact that he had been the first one to initiate conversation kept me at bay. While on his death screen he told me I could take anything, but I told him that I would only take a couple of cans of food and did. After leaving Elektro, I felt much better knowing that there are still nice people in the game. One unique quality that BMRF.me had was a strict no-complaining policy as well as first person only. The fact that you seem to have a lower blood value in DayZero already makes players more wary, but when you are restricted to only a 70 degree field of vision, you are on high alert most of the time. Third person really can encourage PvP - you have more of a chance of spotting people as well as less immersion, which would allow zombies not to bother you as much henceforth breaking a certain bond between survivors. I definitely think that DayZero is the place to go for real DayZ now - normal DayZ and other mods are just a bit too easy which allows the immature players to figure things out a bit quicker.
  8. It is surprisingly easy to find things in the middle of nowhere. I was running southbound from Guglovo, a town rarely visited because most buildings are made of Legos, when I spotted a Mi-17 deep in the forest. It had a DMR, M240, etc. inside and was 100% good. I decided to take it and flew off.Quite frankly I wouldn't blame anyone from stealing anything of mine. It's exactly what I would do, so why should I care? If I catch them in the act, however, hilarity involving broken legs and dropped weapons would ensue.

    You gotta love Starry Sobor

I myself have used this tactic before and it is quite effective. In fact, I've seen many players do it before and it is quite enjoyable to counter snipe or flank them. This is why I generally keep out of towns and only check them when I absolutely need to, rather than just wanting something like a better sidearm. I prefer firehouses.

    How I became a bandit.

    Good for you?

    Stereotypes...

Whenever I have sick loot and get killed by a bandit, I'll get a little irritated. But then I realize that this is just a game and that I would do the same in their shoes. I believe the ragers that get mad at anyone that kills them either fail to realize what I do, or rage to provide entertainment.
  12. CZs spawn rarely, but Winchesters and Enfields are relatively common in barns. I've also been able to find a compound crossbow in barns many times, but they aren't accurate at all and don't work well compared to the hatchet.

Do you just kill anyone you don't know?

I kill anyone I don't know if they have a gun. There's a general consensus that if you don't know someone, there's like an 80% chance that you'll be killed by them. Of course statistics and percentages in this case (that 80% was just off the top of my head by the way) are just an example of the Texas Sharpshooter Fallacy, but when you're facing those odds psychology doesn't particularly matter... For example, I once met up with someone after typing in side chat. He claimed that he had no weapon, which was true. Once we found a revolver for him, he walks around the corner and lights me up with it. In the end, I don't think people should antagonize others that kill anyone on-sight. You're taught by DayZ sooner or later that trusting people you don't know is generally a bad choice. Now, people that go out of their way to kill others I can understand your antagonizations. But other than that, this topic is discussed ad nauseum, at least in my opinion.

Dayz mod was great game, now is not

That's a misinterpretation of what I had said. I had said it should be a little more friendly to newer players, not catering to them. By this, I mean adding a little bit more gear for the newer players (flashlight as a standard, as well as at least one band-aid, maybe a can of soda and some beans) but then again, I suppose it's up to the individual servers in the end. I'm glad we agree on the bleeding issue. (Hehe, that sounds funny) I'm also glad you decided to give me a decent response instead of trying to look like a hardass and call my issues with the game "bitching". You seem like a pretty cool guy, we should Co-op sometime.

Dayz mod was great game, now is not

I just joined in on the game, and I have some complaints as well. The mod is fun, but some times I just find myself facepalming at some of the ridiculous "features" it has. I know the whole "If you don't like it you shouldn't play it" adage, but it's not necessarily true. Some people like the concept of the DayZ mod and the way it was before more than the way it is now. And because Dayz is basically the only half decent product of its own concept, these people have no other choice than to play the mod. So, on to my complaints. 1. Infection rate is way too high. You can get punched by a zombie, and all of a sudden, you've been infected. You get an infection from a blood transfusion also, which makes absolutely no sense medically, since people are tested for any kind of sickness before they can donate blood. It's like each character has an immune system of an AIDS patient. 2. Blood loss is also way too high after being hit by a zombie. Losing a lot of blood from a gunshot wound I can understand, but losing up to 200 blood per second from a zombie punching you? Really? That gives you about 30 seconds to get to the nearest building before you reach critical condition, and most of the time you can't reach a building because most of them are just LEGO blocks. 3. You pass out from falling five feet. This is primarily due to ARMA's glitchiness, but if you can do all you've done with DayZ, how could you not fix this? It's a huge glitch that often causes players to die. You might say, "Be more careful, duh." but it's not the player's fault they ran off some steps a little too early. Most of the time it's an accident. 4. Blurry screen on low blood. At the point of having a blurred screen, you are set up for failure. You literally can't see anything. As an alternative for this, I'd prefer to have to crawl because of muscle weakness. 5. Being knocked down. I can't tell you how many times I've been hit on the back and all of a sudden I'm on the ground. Now, I do have to give you guys props for this feature, but it's a bit buggy in my experience. In a few instances I found myself frozen in the same spot being mauled by zombies after standing. I could not move, shoot, etc. I could only stand there raging silently. It's kind of ironic, really. You guys are focused on realism when you don't allow our characters to do what we want them to do (and what they'd do in real life) and haul butt to get away from the zombie munching on them from behind. Instead, our characters slowly assume the prone position and then decide, "Meh, I don't want to get eaten by zombies." and get up at a crawling speed while the players behind the screen are yelling, "MOVE! COME ON!" Please fix the bug to where we can at least stumble away from the zombies. 6. Loot spawn. I once walked a few kilometers to check out a castle. Once I got inside, I saw TONS of zombies. There must be something here, I thought. I went through the whole base in an hour, looking for something. I finally saw some glorious medical tents and barracks. Jackpot. I checked each one of them, hoping one would have the gun I could use to get me out of there. The castle had absolutely no loot. In the 200x230m base, there was nothing. The DayZ mod is a great game aside from these major flaws. I know you guys want these things to be used possibly as a way to keep stealth as a primary game mechanic, and as a person that has watched a few good games lose it because it didn't keep the mechanics in check, I appreciate that. It's just that there is such thing as enough, you know? The DayZ mod needs to be a little more friendly to newer players that don't play as often and don't have all day to play a game, as well as being more of a game than a "real life scenario". Thanks for the read!
