    Weapon Balance vs "Realism"

Amazing video. But to be fair, they did make sure the barrel was clear before any of the tests. Even in part 2, after covering it in mud.

    Weapon Balance vs "Realism"

But, realistically, modern military weapons are designed for maneuvrability and rate of fire. Certainly not cartridge power nor long range accuracy. The 5.56 round sacrifices the stopping power and long range of 7.62x51 or 30-06 for lower recoil and rate of fire. This is because the military decided full auto was essential in the modern battlefield. At the same time, the M4 sacrifices some extra range and accuracy of the full length M16, because they decided they didn't actually use those, but a shorter weapon was more useful in urban and close range combat. How much do those assumptions apply to DayZ? Anyway, how do you think it should it be more powerful? Stopping power? You will find plenty of discussion on how the 7.62 bullets have more stopping power in real life. Rate of fire is fine. Accuracy is wrong, but I have reason to believe that's just a placeholder until there's proper sway mechanics. Guns are situational. The M14 was designed shortly after the SKS, and its technology is not that different. Yet it's been used in a variety of military roles. Snipers still use bolt action rifles that are not that different to a mosin-nagant. Bolt action design peaked with the Mauser 1898, and most "improvements" since then have been cost cutting measures.

    Darkest darkness

Have you tried it? I have, and didn't notice a significant difference. Closing my blinds, turning off the lights and turning off my second screen IRL helps more than increasing brightness/gamma. But who wants to play like that?
  4. Barricades are expected reasonably early, whatever that means. I assume tents will come after barricades, as they first test simple persistent items, then persistent items containing other stuff.
  5. No, but I play one in Kerbal Space Program.
  6. No. If tomorrow they decided the game was ready for release, they would skip to 1.0. Conversely, if it takes more than 66 builds to reach 1.0, they can always go 0.99, 0.100, 0.101, etc. It's not a decimal number, it has 2 dots in it.

    New Gun B95

Great analysis. I don't know how accurate mosins are in reality, but any double gun should be more innaccurate than a normal bolt action. The kind of people who buy these rifles are not worried about accuracy. They want style and a quick, reliable second shot for either drive hunting (running animals pushed towards a stationary hunter) or dangerous game, both at short range. The blaser does have the regulating system, but it's hard to get it right, and very sensitive to small changes in ammo loading. Given we are scavenging ammo, I think reduced accuracy is a reasonable compromise.

    New Gun B95

Double rifles do, because they don't need the space for the bolt. Edit: To expand, where in a bolt action or semiauto, the bolt goes back to eject and load new rounds, in a break action this is done manually by opening the gun. So the chamber can begin where the bolt would in the others.

    The Fun of Clans?

You would be surprised. Those large groups are so sure they are invincible they often flail around when attacked by surprise. If a couple good players hit them hard and fast by surprise, they can do a lot of damage.

    The Fun of Clans?

I guess the fun would be in teamwork and interaction. It also gives people something to work towards, since there's someone in a group that needs gearing up. A 10 man group in a 40 man server seems a bit excessive, but would make a great target for some guerrilla stuff.

    Character reset

Hive is down. Logout inmediately and your character will be back when the hive comes back online.

Do we want a reward for surviving?

Two easy ideas that wouldn't be game breaking. Once stamina is ingame, character fitness could affect it. Running long distances in game could give you stamina and the ability to sprint/jog slightly longer. Make it a logarithmic function so you improve quickly in your first few hours then only a little. Second, long term healthy status could tie in with infections and sickness. Someone who has been well fed and hydrated for a while is less susceptible to infections than someone who is starving. Could even add some viral infections you only can have once per character. You can make these two connected, so surviving, and surving well, is what improves your character.

Can we please have guns hitting where we aim at?

Hunting rifles. When zeroing them from a good gun rest to negate as much user error as possible, my rifle can put 3 holes touching at 200m. In the field, I cannot do that, but that's my fault, not the gun's.

Lootable Buildings are Becoming an Endagered Species

There is loot, but it's very predictable. At this point there's 3-4 good house models, and of the others, half may have one or two items, and the other half never, ever, spawn anything. In a small town, you can just loot a couple buildings you know before hand, and walk away with 90% of all the loot in town, and 100% of the weapons. That is plain bad design.

Constant PVP ruins the fun of this game

I beg to differ. The PVP hotspot in the mod was the barracks at NWAF, because that's where the high grade equipment spawned, and people kept going back for more and better guns. That makes much more sense than shooting people who spawn at the beach.

Lootable Buildings are Becoming an Endagered Species

First, I've been noticing the dissapearing spawn points as well. Well, this affects the small towns much more than Cherno or Elektro (or Zelenogorsk). The cabins, sheds, and non-city block houses are the ones that are missing loot the most. Places that should be reasonably useful to loot, like Staroye or Dolina end up having only two or three useful houses. You go there, loot those houses and get out. Instead, you should be checking every nook and cranny of the towns.

Can we please have guns hitting where we aim at?

Corrections accepted. I was talking about bullet dispersion (which is what's incorrectly modelled ingame), and forgot to clarify about bullet drop. But in typical in-game iron sight ranges (0-200m), bullet drop is not that signicant. A difference of 5cm up or down is not going to make a centermass shot any less lethal.

Constant PVP ruins the fun of this game

I guess you were referencing my post. Look at post-apocalyptic narratives in fiction. Oversimplifying, you get four types of people in them: Survivors, normal people who have lost everything and are just trying to survive and restore their lives to some sort of stability.Settlements, groups of survivors who have managed to restore a somewhat normal society, with the basics of safety and survival provided by the group.Tyrants, who seize the opportunity to form a society with them on top. They are the warlords, the ones who organize an army and conquer and subjugate settlements. Raiders, who enjoy the fall of civilization an dedicate themselves to a life of senseless violence and pillage.I'm probably missing many subtypes, and in any setting like this there's bound to be a hero that doesn't quite fit into any of the categories. But it will do. Right now the game limits us to playing survivors or raiders. There are no tools to form any kind of permanent group ingame. Once we get those tools, more people will move away from the raider/survivor playstyle to the settlement/tyrant one. The senseless violence will always be there, because many people enjoy it. But it will not be the main focus of the game, because there will be violence with a purpose.

Can we please have guns hitting where we aim at?

You are wrong. A gun will always hit exactly where the sight is at. The difficulty is in lining up the sight with the target. Comparing the SA to Arma 3, I'm always surprised by how much more difficult but rewarding Arma3 aiming is. There is a whole lot of weapon sway, and getting the target into the sight is hard. But once you have it there, the bullet will hit.

Airfields and military bases are dumb

For whatever reason (performance, balance, bugs) many hourses don't spawn the items they are supposed to. The dayzdb map is based directly on game files, and it shows many spawn locations that are always empty in the game. According to it, the M4 should spawn in a couple of the small houses as well as one of the sheds, for instance. Once every building has a chance of spawning its loot, there should be a much better distribution.

How do I carry more than 3 weapons at a time?

You can carry both pistols and the sawed off in the backpack, a rifle on your back and another in your hands. I did that for about 10 minutes once, mostly to take the screenshot. If you logout with a rifle on your hand and another on your back, they will both be on your back when you log on, allowing you to run a bit faster. But one of them still drops to the ground if you use your hands for anything. Not very practical.
  22. It's for the double rifle (that should really be a combination rifle/shotgun, but whatever). I think the snaploader mania is going a bit too far. I've known many double shotgun shooters, and a few double rifle users IRL. This game is the first time I've heard of snaploaders for either. If they exist, they must be uncommon. Most double rifle shooters learn to hold two rounds between the fingers of their left hand, so they can do a quick reload after firing.
  23. Where are all the zombies? I've looted 4 unlooted towns in experimental (UK something) and see a total of 3 zeds. Anyone else noticed that?
  24. Then the rags will get ruined when the zombie hits you. How's that an improvement?
  25. Many times, since the mod, especially when there was a large group of us playing in the same server. Funny the details I remember. In the mod: Once I was running through the woods near Dubrovka, there was a bunch of us on the server. I noticed some guy behind me, dropped to the ground, and as he came in shot him in the face. Then I realized I had been listening to him describe my every movement on TS. Ooops. Another time I was lost somewhere near Staroye, comparing what I saw with the map and trying to rendezvous with a guy who was, he said, "near Elektro". I hear footsteps behind me, turn around and open fire. And the message in the bottom left says "Vanderie (the guy I was supposed to meet) was killed". Oops again. Then I was in the forests on the very west edge of the map, coming back from NWAF to the coast and looking for camps and cars along the way. I stop in a pinetree to check my bearings, and someone comes running around the tree. Open up, kill, "Benito Arias was killed". Poor Benito, I had shot at him so many times in EVE Online, and when we play DayZ on the same side, I shoot him by accident. In the standalone... I was looting Krastostav with a friend, when he noticed two guys coming up behind me just as they opened fire. I was wounded, we retreated a bit, and he decided to try to go around a house without telling me. He came at me from the direction then others had gone, I asked "is that you?" (not very specific), "no it's them", and I opened up. "Yea, it was me" :( He survived my shots, but the blood loss meant he died in the next exchange of fire. In the most recent case, some guy we killed came back and knocked out our sniper unconscious. I rushed there, started shooting my M4 into him as he stood over the body... and he died, but so did the unconscious sniper. Stray bullet, almost certainly. The only thing I can say in my defense: I've never done it on purpose. But it seems I don't have to.
