Ok, I realize this is a write-only thread, but for the sake of making arguments... First, Chernarus is NOT the Czech Republic. The topography is Czech, but the local language is russian, and the backstory as given by Arma2 is post-soviet. Ukraine or Moldova are better models for the culture and backstory. Second, Eastern Europe is not this quaint isolated backwater that people are making it. Americans are good at making cheap guns, so it wouldn't surprise me if they had taken the civilian gun market as they have done in Western Europe. Certainly more likely to find that than a 40 year old Mosin. The only gun I think is out of place is the fully suppressed MKII. As far as I know, that model is made specifically for US Navy Seals.

Yep, it's against the license according to BIS. But I'd be very surprised if it doesn't happen officially once Chernarus+ is complete.

Do you leave your morality at the door?
Jack Dant replied to tamingatche91's topic in General Discussion
From my experience in other games, the people who confuse ingame morality and real life morality are also the most abusive towards other players. They are the ones who go on about "I hope you die of cancer" or threaten to find you and hurt you in real life. It's scary stuff. -
So what is the perfect multiplayer game Dean envisions?
Jack Dant replied to hypermoon's topic in General Discussion
"I feel like DayZ is a fundamentally flawed concept," There is no mention of the engine. There can be no mention of the engine, because he said concept, and the concept is the same no matter what engine you use. Once you understand it's the concept that he thinks is flawed, you understand his attitude better. It's not that he can do a better DayZ, it's that he can make a better game that's not DayZ. -

It's a game with a definite PVP element. Feeling bad about killing people in DayZ would be as silly as feeling bad for capturing pieces in chess, or worrying about the thousands of virtual soldiers that die in a Total War game. It's part of the game, and I don't lose sleep over it. Personally, I do have some limits. I'm not comfortable backstabbing other players if I happen to have a friendly encounter with them, so I never do that. But I understand it's also part of the game when it's been done to me. It's just something that I dislike doing. That's nowhere near how I would behave in real life, I'm sure. This is just for fun. -

You assume wrong. Go read what he actually said and stop bringing your preconceived notions into this. -
Wow, reading comprehension is at an all level low. The exact quote was: "I feel like DayZ is a fundamentally flawed concept". Notice how he said concept, not implementation, or engine. It means you cannot fix those flaws without changing the concept. For all we know, that could mean getting rid of zombies, of guns, of hunger mechanics. We don't know. "It's not the perfect game; it's not the multiplayer experience, and it never can be, [with] the absolute spark that I want in it." How's that so dissapointing? Are people honestly claiming DayZ was the perfect game, or could even be made into it? Have you looked at these forums? People whine about KoS, people whine about not enough PVP, about how loot is too rare, and about how it's too easy to gear up. Really?

People are so used to marketing telling them "this game is perfect, it's got no flaw whatsoever, 9.5/10", when a designer comes out and says simply that the concept is flawed, you all think he's saying it's worthless. It's not. The concept can be flawed, and still be a great game. In fact, because he said the concept is flawed, he is implying if he corrected those flaws it would be a different concept, a different game. And the community wouldn't have accepted him refusing to make DayZ to make, say, a mountain climbing simulation.

Text chat is like voice, local to you inmediate surroundings. I think it even degrades with distance. People don't use text direct chat because it takes too long and you have to stop moving to type.

Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
Jack Dant replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
He didn't just state it. He said as much back in June: So, from the June perspective, he just added 6 more months to his estimate. But suddenly, because Eurogamer decided to quote just that from a four hour interview and call it an "exclusive", people are freaking out. -
I was on a french server where the admin kept talking in global, both text and voice. After he kicked a bunch of guys, he said something about "ping de merde". Pretty sure it's enabled at least on some providers.

Whats Being Done To Combat ESP Hacks?
Jack Dant replied to dusty_nuttles's topic in General Discussion
If someone wants proof, the bug report has links to both videos from the point of view of the victims and the cheaters. You can think cheats are more or less common, but there's plenty of proof they exist. -
I thought hardcore and regular servers had seperate characters?
Jack Dant replied to Apocrypha8's topic in General Discussion
Make sure the hardcore server is actually hardcore (try to go on 3rd person). It may be a mislabeled server. -
[HACKING] We need to know on which server we are playing
Jack Dant replied to paradogz's topic in General Discussion
Even rocket agrees. In one of his streams, he was asked what server he was in. His reaction? "Who made this game? You can't even see server you are playing in" -
Seeing a person 800m out is not hard in real life, if they are in the open, and especially if they are moving. The built-in zoom is only 3x, while a pair of outdoor binos is going to be somewhere between 6x and 12x.
