Bio
Female, Gamer, USN IRL -- Not interested in joining your para-military DayZ Clan. Would rather die then have my off-time bossed around. ;-P
But totally love teaming up~ especially on Private Hive servers - Trolls are casually discarded - Skype is okay, Team-Speak preferred, Ventrilo tolerated.
Bandits, and those knowingly harming unarmed or compliant players are shot on sight without a word of warning~ even if I've been walking with them for an hour -- Threatening to, is one thing; and I won't stop you from doing it ... but I'll sure as hell avenge them while your back is turned. ;)

DayZ Devs: We really need a definitive answer here.
phionamercy replied to Mrdk's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I prefer Private Hives because I don't like people logging off the server, and maneuvering around behind my position to avoid kill-zones and empty fields where I could shoot them. -
~ Deleted and consolidated above.

Checking it out.... Upon checking it out: Starting Equipment: -- Makarov, 2 clips -- 2 bandages -- Sardines -- Pepsi Yeah, not interested. "Get back into the deathmatch faster!" server.

Sad Face... I, on the US West Coast get 340 ping to them from San Diego. I don't know if I like the bicycle thing or not... part of the thing I like most about DayZ is walking with people, with strangers and just having conversations as we go. You get to know people. You get suspicious of some people, and build trust with others. I've noticed people don't really want to have conversations with people they're still thinking about (or have ultimately decided to) betray~ and I like that kinda head-play. One of my foremost fields of interest is social psychology~...

Haha~ Yeah, I have a group of three friends I play with-- but we keep getting into servers with misleading labels~
-
It's a Private Hive discussion forum~ will do though. I'm not interested in what people's intents are with their server, I'm interested in a set of hard-coded rules.. not telling people: "Sorry, this crap isn't allowed" kinda ruins the point of DayZ as a "people do what they can/have to/feel the need to do". I'd rather use hard methods of preventing people from doing behaviors in as many areas as possible, rather then saying: "Oh, we'll get angry at you if you ghost." That *doesn't* stop COD kiddies or combat loggers. Only the complete loss of access to something they care about does that - which is why the private hive guards the investment of those whom enjoy the theme. They become the gate-keeper to your prized DMR and your blue van. On an unrelated note: 6-core i7 processor (12 virtual cores), 64 gigs of ram (100 gigs devoted to cache RAM on the OS specific 256 gig SSD drive.) two striped 256 drives running as one, and a 1 TB storage drive for my movies, music and video. Is it hard to host your own DayZ server? I saw a post on it once, but I really didn't understand it..

Yeah, I don't want to do a starting weapon.. I want to run in terror for awhile till I find a weapon. As a side-note though.. wow. Apparently a lot of people are interested in a hard-core server... Is hosting a server easy? I do have a pretty powerful PC... (And by powerful, I mean *way* and regretfully, waste-inducingly overdone.)
-
I was going by the link you sent me, reading it. You never modified the specs, and so I assume the information you send is what you want me to read and compare~ with regards to 3rd person? I don't have a huge problem with that, but only because the 'lean' option is so jerky that it's impossible to *not* get noticed when you do it. If it were possible, how it is in real life.. to slowly 'ease' into a lean, you might seem like a bush or something, or go entirely unregistered.. But with DayZ's / ARMA II's lean mechanic?... I dunno. Also, most sound detection isn't precise in most people's head-sets. I'm lucky enough to have Dolbi-digital 3D sound in my head-set. (And I play on a 1080p TV with an HDMI cable from my PC) ... barring an easier lean, I don't really mind the 3rd person. It's also the one thing that gives you peripheral awareness around your character's immediate surroundings, where so often, you might get hung-up on something you can't even see with a glance.. because we don't have nerve-endings to our characters.

I just noticed your DayZ server starts with a custom load-out -- a weapon / Makarov -- and I will likely be avoiding that. Part of the panic, the frustration.. the worry.. and the meaningfulness of pulling the trigger or not ... is knowing how hard it is for a person to start over again. I don't play a bandit; and I've never murdered anyone (although I tried, and failed, once, with a crow-bar when I was desperate.) ... I try to play a positive humanity character. And I don't want easy-mode. I don't want people to walk into a room, next to loot they need.. see a conga line of zombies .. and just head-shot each one as they come. It makes restarting to easy. It makes helping fresh spawns a pointless exercise rather then about trust building. I want the genuine experience.

Nonono.. -Private- Hive.. haha. See, the problem with Public Hive, is people can go to other servers.. walk around behind your position, log back in, and shoot you in the back. This creates circumstances where logical positioning, and choke points that do work in a logical world *don't* work... Private Hive keeps people from doing that!

I want to play the game the way the mod designers intended it. Default Churno map. Veteran. No side channel. No cross hairs or player mouse-overs. No extra vehicles. No extra guns or modified spawns. No custom bases. I want to play it on the current patch. And I don't want my vehicles to reset to their spawn location every time the server resets. And I want to play on a private hive so that people stop ghosting up behind me by switching servers so they can cross fields and kill-zones without being seen. I want the survival experience. I want to worry about not having enough antibiotics. Does this exist anywhere? Or is everyone just running a COD server? I found ONE server running 1.7.7 on a private hive on Veteran mode. CIA Gaming server... ... but the vehicles reset every six hours when the server does, and there are way to many of them.

We had a helocopter; saved it.. logged out.. server reset, and we came back on (less then 30 seconds) nobody on the server but us before and after -- HUEY was gone. Private Hive US 843 ... also, all the loot piles (like vehicle husks, care packages, etc.) are spawning under the -center- of the spawn object, all stacked ... (such as all loot spawning under the care package or car husk where you can't (easily?) get at it.) All stacked perfectly. Also, our van (which we parked a half hour before we got the van) while nobody was on.. was magically reset to default loot at it's Gas Station (South of Berenzio~ the famous van spawn) on the east-coast on the other side of the map after we pointedly *did* save it. Vehicles are not saving when we select 'Save'.

The female skin cannot be selected on several servers as of 1.7.7 on respawn~

- When I throw a can from outside a zombie's line of sight... the zombie makes a B-line around the building to me, instead of the can. - Zombies come from other parts of the map to wander into the building automatically. They don't run or growl -- they just walk (even outside!) directly to inside and to me like they're psychic and often walk right through the walls and doors while they're closed without hearing me. - I have seen no whiskey for disinfectant; only empty whiskey bottles. I have seen no antibiotics. - The machete's still aren't working even when I open and close my gear. The game is virtually unplayable on LocalGamers.net - Also, my friend (Col. Sanders) just had a corpse of his body show up when he logged in? Shortly there-after admin banned from the server by Battle-eye. Recommendation/Opinion: (and hey; just my opinion!) - Go back to old zombie agro. - Go back to old infection rate. - Leave zombie knockdown in. (Love it! buggy or not! I got tangled by ZEDs in the East-coast factory on the stairs/ladders.. it was great!) - Leave reduced medical spawns in. (Good! No more fake heros emptying medical boxes just to get more blood-bags -- and keeps Infection worrysome.) - Infection from a zombie should not be air-born on players! ... this thing is way to infectious. Undecided on: - Infection mortality ... feels obscenely high. Sickness feels to deadly.. like it would take days to kill you, not an hour. Likewise? With reduced medical supplies, it'll still be something to worry about even if the infection rate was reduced!! BUG NOTE: - Couldn't swing my machete -- it wouldn't reload and it had no ammo. NON-BUG NOTE: I got sick off of water after escaping town with almost a full kit.. but no hatchet. Logged out with a tent, my matches, my food, my knife, my map and then found out: I couldn't put my tent in my old spots.. no more underwater or wood-shed tents to hide them from Heliocopter glitch-players. (They fly high up in the sky with the heliocopter so that trees and foliage derezzes, so they can see our tents. So people started putting them in woodsheds and underwater near dams to hide them... can't be done anymore. No tent is secure against this bug no matter where you put it now. Obviously intentional patching to prevent unusual placement of tents.. but-- I feel it's a bit unwarrented given how much helocopters are abused for purposes of looting people's camps~ Helocopters should have an altitude max applied to prevent this abuse before you stop them from protecting their stuff. Making an air-tight storage and hiding it in a pond of dirty water is totally, legitimately viable~ as is storing your stuff in an old shed.

Will SA alpha be in a worse state than the mod?
phionamercy replied to JoeM (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What you need to understand is that 'Alpha' is LOWER then a 'Beta'. "Alpha" and "Beta" do not mean you get "early access" to the game ... it means that if you get to PLAY Alpha or Beta that you are part of the volunteer critique and quality assurance team. Basically, if you get in while the game is in alpha -- you are paying less money so that you can play, and help them find the things that are wrong with it... and then you *tell* them what is wrong with it, and if they agree with your assessments and those of other players ... they fix it. People complaining about what they showed at E3 ... don't understand, already how much better the fluidity of controls were and how much cleaner the shots were-- you have to realize: It's PRE-ALPHA. And ALPHA means "Buggy". So when you buy 'DayZ Stand-Alone Alpha' or ANY GAME in 'Alpha'.. (like Minecraft!) then you are saying: "I know this game is buggy, and I want to help test it, so they can fix it because I know it will be worth it in the end." DayZ, given the mod itself only STARTED a year ago ... has developed into a full blown game so fast that it's retarded. Blizzard has been developing the Titan project for what.. 5 years? And just scrapped it? DayZ went from a mod to a full blown game being shown at E-3. Think about that~ If they can do that? Imagine what they can do with six months of us all play-testing it.
