My Basic Survival Tips
sandorski replied to matt.gilmurray@gmail.com's topic in New Player Discussion
Alternate tips: 1) Cities - Do not enter 2) Essential Supplies: 1 Food, 1 Drink, 1 Bandage, 1 Painkiller, 1 Morphine 3) Essential Equipment: Hunting Knife, Matches, Hatchet 4) Grouping - Attempting to do this ingame is extremely risky. Best to do outside of game first. -

Been wearing Camo for almost a week with no issues. I even tried the switch to civilian before logging out the first time to avoid this bug, when I joined the next day I was wearing the camo again. :s The only time I spawned in the ocean I didn't even have camo clothing. I keep hearing about this bug, but have had nothing odd happen while wearing camo.

You know what grinds my gears?

Having to stand still to switch weapons is the oddest mechanic ever. Other oddities are the thumping sounds when retrieving/storing binoculars or eating(should add Minecraft crumbs for the lolz). -
There are 2 types of Players, it seems: 1) The Survivor who takes DayZ as a challenge to survive as long as possible. I think most players start playing DayZ with this in mind as it is how DayZ has been marketed. They view DayZ more as a Simulator than just a game. 2) Others who just see it as a game to do whatever they want. Not all have the intent of being Bandits or are Bandits, but many, probably most, certainly end up as Bandits. Some of them don't care if they die, others do care and are willing to DC when they get in over their head, others Server Hop to quickly kit up so they can get back into the fray. They view DayZ as just a Game and not a Simulator. Personally I prefer 1. Having to be very wary of other players just makes it more interesting/challenging IMO. That said, I haven't had to respawn since 1.7, so I haven't had to deal with the possibility of having no weapon at start and Bandits sniping new spawns for no reason whatsoever. So far my experience with DayZ has lived up to the hype and I'm having fun, but I am concerned that it could end up failing if Banditry isn't discouraged in some fashion. Just to repeat some points others have made. People wanting to avoid getting killed soon after spawn really need to stop going to Electro/Cherno. Both places are death traps and draw way too many people for one to expect to survive long. I had the benefit of watching quite a few Playthroughs prior to starting DayZ, but upon my first spawn in Dayz, the very first thing I did was to run to the nearest Mountain and just keep running(not entirely possible with recent changes, but can be done after getting a few supplies from smaller towns first). It really is far safer up north than near spawn. Certainly players up north have the better loadouts, but the area is huge and the player concentration much lower giving you the better chance of long term survival.

The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
sandorski replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
DayZ needs a Points system. 1 Zombie Kill = 1 Point, 1 Murder = 1 Point, 1 Bandit Kill = All Murder Points of Bandit. Certainly Points are not going to affect every Player, in fact I'm sure some will constantly belittle those with High Points. However, it is bound to influence many and would provide resistance to the shoot anyone on sight mentality. Other possible things are Bonuses. Whether being part of a Group and/or based upon the Age/Points(as above) of an Individual, there could be a Bonus system in place. This could vary greatly, perhaps, as an example, Canned Food with bonuses would replace 200 Blood + Bonus Amount(% or x number). You could even add things like Regenerative Blood or increased chance of finding certain Loot. -

Agree with that' date=' what I expected when I bought ARMA was not [/quote'] Indeed. First was hilarious and looked fun. Second was pointless, but would have been cool if he got popped. -

What weapon was underwhelming to you?
sandorski replied to Areos (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
MP5, used up the 5 mags then dumped it as soon as I found a replacement. I avoid PvP like the plague. As such, M1911 and Winchester seems to be the best loadout. Both are 1 hit kills, use easily found ammo, and the Winchester is quiet enough that it's rare that zombies aggro to it. -
Not sure about the Cores question, but regarding RAM: Not only does it allow 4gb max of RAM, it also restricts the total amount of RAM used by any single Application to 2gb. In short, there really is no reason for anyone to buy 32bit Windows these days(with possible exception for some Business users with old Software). That doesn't really help any, but just an FYI. If you asked this question at a Hardware site like Anandtech or Toms Hardware someone could give you a thorough answer.

Best not to aggro a zombie in the first place. If you do though, run into a building that has an exit out the other side. That way they'll get stuck in the building walking slow and you'll be able to put enough distance to lose them.

..but all the Zombies are dudes :-/

If you think about it, in a Zombie Apocalypse a Woman is the best Loot possible. We should team up, I'll watch your Back, constantly.

One moment it's 4 joyriding yahoos shooting at someone on the side of the road, the next moment it's panic at the disco ending in death. Nice work! :D -
Anyone else had trouble with using ladders/gates?
sandorski replied to Taso (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Haven't had issues with ladders, but have had a lot of problems with gtetting loot from Outhouses. The Close/Open door option is always in the way. -

Explain to me how you're going to go about this. A militia, even if it is the majority of the server can not adequately defend from even a single bandit. Let's take the extreme case, 49 players, all in the 'anti-bandito-vigilante-militia' and one bandit. The hypothetical bandit sniper is just going to pop in, moonlight as a survivor, take advantage of the requirement for an anti-bandit militia's requirement to id players, kill one player he thinks he can get away with and run off. Even if all other 48 players try to track him down, it doesn't matter, he can leave the server, join another one and he escapes all consequences for murder. A police force of any kind can not work with cross-server persistence, considering the 'perp' can just quit the game or join another server. DayZ will always be skewed towards the player hunting snipers, unless bullet damage is increased, persistence is removed, item storage is removed and shooting difficulty is increased, absolutely nothing will ever change. I suspect, in time, much of that will be addressed. One way would be to delete all Assets a Player has accumulated when they die. -
You should have kept your distance. Not Trusting people is the proper state of mind in DayZ, you can't just walk up to people and expect hugs and kisses.

Agreed, pretty much why a Clan or organized Group is the solution to rampant Banditry.Call it an interim Government. -

The Zombies have killed our Family and Friends and now many of our fellow Survivors have turned into murderous Bandits. Now more than ever, Perhaps a Clan(s) could counter act these things? -

I have managed to evade 2 groups of 2 and a solo player in this current Life so far. The trick is to avoid open areas as much as possible, large Cities, Crouch running always, and just keep looking around. If you see someone, go in a direction away from them that's not in the general direction they are heading, use objects to break the line of sight, be sure to check behind you at times to make sure they are not following, do not communicate with them unless you think they have seen you. When you Spawn anew Electro/Cherno should be avoided at all costs, head North hitting Smalltowns/Barns as you go, only go to Cherno/Electro when you are equipped and wanting to hunt Bandits. -
Had one once, but never got much chance to use it. Any gun that's a 1 shot kill is going to be better though, IMO. When you have a horde of zeds on you, the quicker each one dies the better.
