In the future, electro and churno are history!
sandorski replied to moofactory's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
China, then Youtubers wouldn't even try to read the road signs. Chinese Youtubers excepted anyway. -
Is the average life expectancy accurate for you guys?
sandorski replied to kirak95197's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Shortest is about 1 hour, longest about 20. -
Do you ever feel like getting awesome guns is a waste?
sandorski replied to Shard (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
M1911 and Winchester is all I need. I'll put an AK or M4 in my backpack with some ammo, for the occassion I run out of Winchester Ammo. That doesn't happen very often though. -
Bear Traps - Why Were These a Priority?
sandorski replied to bennyandthejets's topic in New Player Discussion
Loot is common and plentiful. Very few people will ever be put in a position where killing is the only option for survival. -
Sometimes I crouch until Aggro's, sometimes I just Sprint. With no Weapon I try not to Aggro, but even then I'm not too worried as long as I know where the next major building is. Then it's just a concern of whether a player is in there.

So anyone here NOT shoot at first sight?
sandorski replied to Reidlos's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was in Vybor yesterday on top of the school shooting Zs in the street, when I heard someone on the floor below open a soda can. Headed to the nearest ladder and ran towards the brick house at the N end of town. Shortly after arriving I hear the sounds of someone crouch running towards the house. I get in the hall and try backing out the other way, then he comes through the door guns blazing. I should have prepared better for the confrontation(doorway/Lean for cover), but was too focussed on backing out through the door behind me. -
Even a sand box has built in limitations that exert outcomes based upon what is possible.

DayZ, as it currently is, really isn't what was expected by many. Rocket has mentioned more that is yet to be added, so there's still hope that it will get back to its' premise. If it doesn't deliver, I suspect many will not show up when it becomes a Retail game. That said, using this thread to announce a potential rival Mod is sleazy.

PVP will exist, I'm certain of it and am ok with it. It's PVP as the only option that I oppose.

So anyone here NOT shoot at first sight?
sandorski replied to Reidlos's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I still try not to, but that gets me killed occassionally. -
Which is sad. Hopefully the intended additions Rocket has mentioned changes the game. Personally, if it stays as a PVP centric game like it currently is, I won't be buying it. I'm still hopeful it all buffs out. :)

Definition of the word ENDGAME
sandorski replied to Delta Smoke 01's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree with you on what the definition of Endgame is, but I disagree with you on what it entails, or more accurately, what it should entail. Factions simply fighting over the Barracks is fine, but excludes so many possible paths to take that it is a niche few would choose and frankly would get boring as hell after the nth time, kinda like a Mission one would repeat forever, just because. There need to be other options for players to take. The Loner needs something to continue to strive for. The Bandit needs something to strive for. The Rebuilder needs something to strive for. Others(if they exist) need something to strive for. The thing is, what they all strive for can not be focussed on a common point and/or be just 1 thing. Right now the Barracks and other Military Camps with all their weapons/items are the Holy Grail, but this can't be enough for the longterm(Endgame). There should be other locations with items that are not Weapons or Military related at all, but so beneficial to have that people are willing to risk acquiring them. Off the top of my head, one such item could be an Electrical Generator. This could even introduce a different challenge then the Barracks does. By that I mean, put the item in a location completely over run by Zs, perhaps even Zs with unique AI that make them more challenging. This way the goal isn't fighting rival factions for a resource, instead you must focus on the Zs alone to achieve the goal. Make it so difficult that even a Team with the best Weapons could fail. -
Didn't we just have a thread about threads like this?

DayZ should become a stand alone game using a different engine.
sandorski replied to Harris (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Even if another Engine were capable of running a Map the size of Chenarus, that simply wouldn't be enough to switch to that Engine. I get the impression that a lot of you have no idea how much Work and Time would be required to make such a switch. Rocket, to start, is familiar with the Arma 2 Engine, is using a standard Map, and using standard items within the Map. A switch to another Engine would require creating a Map, Weapons, Vehicles, Characters, other Items, Animations, and even mountains of Code. Simply too daunting a task for Rocket to do alone as he would have to relearn the Ins/Outs of the new Engine before starting(itself something that takes Months). Even if he had a Team familiar with the new Engine, it would take probably at least a year to throw something together that resembles a functioning game. That game though, would likely be missing key features available in the current Mod, because the Arma 2 Engine has many features built in that other Engines simply do not have. All this said, such a Team Costs lots of $ and would likely require 20-100 Individuals that need to be Managed in directions they are unfamiliar with(Realism). -
I would prefer larger, especially if the player count gets 2-4x greater.

20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon

The only problem here is that the post is >20 words. Othe rthan that, it is 100% correct. -
[UPDATED] Weekly Stats, PvP Trends
sandorski replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I suspect there's something wrong with how Murders stats are being collected. Of my 8 or 9 lives, only 4(I Hack, 2 Zs, 1 unknown spawned on beach as new without dying the previous session)were not PKs. That said, I suppose Noobs might be tipping the stats through simple mistakes and multiple repeats of those mistakes. Might be more informative to see further breakdowns, based upon the amount of playtime the player has, where these deaths occur, how long after Spawn, etc. -
I agree that not All will join together for altruistic reasons. Banditry would certainly exist, factions would develop and even fight each other for territory, etc, etc. However, currently DayZ makes DM/Shoot on sight the only invetable outcome. That is not realistic. Yes, it is a game. It is a game, though, with a premise. If it fails to meet that premise, someone else will achieve it and people will abandon DayZ for it.
-
I don't recall an "Endgame" per se, but he did mention the ability to build camps underground and other basic elements that should improve DayZ. DayZ, as it is now, is certainly lacking a few elements that makes its' premise not being achieved. Right now it is an inevitable DM/TDM game with the Zs just being a secondary challenge. Even without a Weapon a player can sprint through Cherno/Electro with a trail of Zs behind them with near impunity, except for Snipers and other players who shoot on sight. In a Z apocalypse, neither situation would be reality, Zs would be the primary threat and other people, the vast majority of the time, would band together in order to survive. Achieving that is difficult though. DayZ is a great concept, but if it can't achieve a realistic post apocalypse experience, some other Mod/Game will and DayZ will become a footnote in gaming history.

No day is complete without yet another Yogscast Video Whine thread. Thanks OP. Every criticism mentioned by the Yogscast I have heard numerous times in other Youtube Lets Plays of DayZ. Every action they have carried out, I have seen on numerous other Youtube Lets Plays of DayZ. Getting/Giving Weapons to players, I have seen numerous times in other Youtube Lets Plays of DayZ. I can only conclude that you are a Hipster Yogscast Hater. You are not required to like them, but stop being all jelly brah. -

20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
sandorski replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Pretty much. Even before playing DayZ I watched enough videos of it that once I started I avoided most of the Noob errors. I was a little concerned when No Gun was implemented, but I had been playing for a few weeks already and when faced with the task it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. That said, I was fully familiar with how Z act to buildings, what places to avoid, etc.Something Noobs haven't figured out yet. -
I did it so I could name her: Ivana Repopulatealot A fine Greek name, I must say... B)
