  1. Around 2:30 he yells "I was crouched", yes you where on a open field, near a wide road and still running. I am not surprised that he aggro'd that Zed wich was way closer than most people would claim they are.
  2. Finally a chance to install 1.7.1.4. * I lost my hatchet from my inventory, that sucks. I really would like a method of harvesting wood with either a hatchet that does not take up half your inventory slots and needs to replace your other weapon if you want to use it. And as others mentioned it earlier, harvesting firewood in forrest without a hatchet should normally not be a problem. Even in a wet forrest its not a problem (as long as you keep twigs on the man to dry them with your body-heat), if that can be implemented than the hatchet can become an battle-axe, and then I won't have a problem with taking up more inventory slots. * Visibillity and hearing levels, more realistic now in my opinion, when in crouching mode you should be a lot more visibile towards anyone in a 360 degree circle around you and not only towards that single Zed in front of you. And be silent, take your time to make your way to a object of intrest, or go in at full speed with more noise and visibillity than a heard of elephants and hope you can shake the zeds by screwing their LOS. * Having said that, the detection range of the Zeds should be toned down a bit. There has to be a balance between reality and it still being a game that can be played without constant frustration. If people claim but it should be as real as possible, well then there are a lot of other so called reality issues that needs to be either changed, tweaked or even dropped for not being realistic at all. (for example the barbed wire concertina, I know from my time in the military that a single concertina weighs about 22 kg and almost a 1 meter in diameter, yet it takes up only 1 inventory slot in this game). * Nighttime issues during moonless or cloudy nights, even when crawling at a slow silent pace you can not see anything other than the difference between sky and everything else. You could still scan the horizon for silhouettes (wich works even better when flat on your belly) but you most likely won't spot the hoppers and crawlers are like you just invisible at night. Hearing them isn't helping much, especially when there are more around. Again there has to be a balance between game and reality.
  3. Oh and that would be even better, time to drop another 2-3 cantines, keeping only 1 or 2 when you really need them. Mind you yesterday I did survive a walk from the wilderniss where I respanwed with four cantines, there is no way you are going to make it with just 1 or 2.
  4. Yes it is. I intend to play a bit longer than the average ten minute kill streak. So keeping your Survivor alive means you also have to engage a survival mode, and to do that you need a bit more than a powerfull rifle and a big pile of ammo.
  5. Unless the spawnrate of waterbottles (cantines) is borked since the 1.7.1 update there should be enough of empty cantines on loot locations. With my current suvivor (pre 1.7.1) I still have 4 cantines, I actually dropped 2 more because I needed the slots for other stuff. And i am never far away from a watersource.

Hatchet can no longer be in tool slot

Thanks good man! BTW: On several locations near houses there are piles of fire-wood, would it be possible to loot wood for a fire place there?

Hatchet can no longer be in tool slot

You can have a complete workshop on your back because a toolbox, tank trap kit, entrenching tool and wire fencing kit take up only 1 slot each? And I am not going to drop my weapon with the glitches that are still around, I only want to drop my weapon if I want to get rid of it. I am not going to upgrade to 1.7.1.2 until this has been resolved. BTW: An entrenching tool would also make a nice melee weapon.

    How my attitude has changed.

Sometimes I wish that you could rate replies in a thread, because this reply certainly deserves a good one.

    Wilderness (1.7.1) - how I escaped

I also spawned in the Wilderness, having a map and on a server that allowed a shift leftclick on that map I found out that I was about 29 km west of the edge of Chernarus. Since I was well stocked with food, 3 tins and 4 cooked meat and 4 cantines of water I decided to make a go for it, it will take you a while, but I got there, by that time I was down to my last cantine, so to nearest pond and filled them all up. I know there is a Deerstand nearby, lets check it out, wauw a AKM and a GPS-Locator. I left the AKM with 3 mags because I already have a M4A1 with 4 mags. Oh and a boar that I passed on that long walk is also in my backpack now :9 But this is not something I would reccomend, taking that long distance walk, especially not when you are low on food and water/drinks, you won't make it.
  10. I am quite sure that during the summer months the nights in Norway are anything but pitch black. That's what you have with countries way up north, above the artic circle it won't get dark at all a the moment. In about 6-7 months time however :) Having said that, usually it is quite dark inside forrest at nighttime, even in my own country where you will never be far away from (big) city lights reflecting of clouds you can hardly make out anything except vague contours, moonlit nights are better. And in Chernarus they turned of the lights.
  11. First things first, I will wait for the hotfix and see what will be changed regarding the Zeds and their behaviour. But in my opinion it is now moving away from being an Open Sandbox game, it looks like it is becomming harder for the solo player who has no intrest in killing other players but only want's survive while still being able to explore the country and its villages and cities for loot and better equipment. Deerstands where (to) easy targets in 1.7.0 but now they are impossible if you are on your own. There is a fine line between "difficult but fun" and "near impossible and frustrating" and I wonder what BIS thinks about this because they are spending resources on this free mod wich could help to attract more buyers to Arma III apart from the hard-core of Arma players that will buy it anyway. One lesson I learned from difficult games was years ago with a game called "Batz 'n Balls" for the Sam Coupe (A souped up Sinclair Spectrum clone). The demo version was frustrating difficult, even with the inbuild cheat mode (Infinite balls) it took loads of time and therefore frustration to clear 5 levels of that demo, I mean if these 5 levels are this frustrating, how must it be with the other 145 levels? needless to say that almost nobody was intrested in buying the game or for that matter even pirating the game. Oh who remembers the mission "After Montignac" from Op Flashpoint (the orginal one by BIS)? The first time it was terrifiying, but after xx times it was just frustrating. Don't make it near impossible and frustrating.

    Just found portable generator... legit?

Never been in a Hospital so far, one your own in bandit country, not smart.

    Just found portable generator... legit?

I am not sure if they are legit at this moment, but the model of that portable generator is in the DayZ mod, the same goes for some other thing, boxes stuffed with food and medical supplies. [attachment=926][attachment=927][attachment=928][attachment=929] I think that these are for future updates, the generator would be very handy, the Arma II engine has searchlights for example, perhaps you are also to charge flashlight- and car batteries? Who knows. What has Rocket in store for us? A well stocked supermarket, I mean finding one of those boxes and you are loaded.

Poll: Do you play at night?

Yes, nights are very productive for me, most of my gear was found during nighttime, including those elusive matches :) In my last night-session I looted the office block, supermarket and several other buildings in Vybor without firing a single shot. There must has been at least one person nearby in Vybor because he had lit the place with several chemlights. Then I made my way to NW airfield, checked the gate at the west side and the hangars at the far end of the runway and got out again and made some distance from the airfield to log off. And I came al the way from Nadezhdino wich is not that far from the coast checking villages out along the way, visited a deerstand wich I knew, that was worth it because it spawned a Glock with flashlight. Yes productive, last night, apart from a set of binoculairs and a NVG I have everything I need for now, well I could use a better rifle. All in all not bad for a survivor that is only 1 day old.
  15. I was enjoying some musical master pieces from the Kenji Kawai Live Concert, and one of the films he composed for was the Japanese/Polish Production "Avalon" (2001), one of those mindf*cks in wich it is not really clear what is reality and what not. Fun thing, during a flash back by Ash (A damsel called Małgorzata Foremniak) in a game with her old team called Wizzard where a few players basically F4 themselves out of the game, leaving Ash and Murphy to fend for themselves. But that is al in the movie. http://youtu.be/Y0Z5McvjFD8 (the first 15 minutes), if you want to watch the whole movie, be sure to have the original Polish one with English subtitles. --//-- Now for Class Real, the ultimate level in the Game that Ash plays. At this level "Neutral players" are introduced. Shoot one of them and your game is over. My idea is that a small number of players (both bandits and survivors) at a server become neutral players without them knowing it once they logged in. As soon as one of those players kill or even hits another player, that player will then loose its neutral status and that status will be transferred to a new player logging in or if no one logs in to another player that has yet not killed someone during that session. If someone shoots a neutral player and kills him, than that player that shot is forced to respawn. You can't see who is neutral unless you saw him actually killing someone or at least be pretty sure that he is a killer (But can you trust the one who says "Robert512 is a killer, shoot him"?), at wich you can be sure that you can shoot him safely. Or you take the risk and hope he/she is not a Neutral player, wich could be the case since only a small percentage of players will be Neutrals. So in short: * People logging in on a server have a small random chance of becomming a Neutral player. * The status is not known to the players. * A Neutral player that kills looses his Neutral status. * Killing a Neutral player forces the killer to a respawn wich basic equipment * Logging off revokes the Neutral status. I think it is not the best solution, by no means, but I think it will put a serious brake on the "for the Lulz" killings. My guess is that it also has an effect on hackers, especially with server-wide killing wich garantuees killing Neutral players. On the other hand I will see other tactics arise, robbing players at gunpoint is suddenly a viable tactic again. Do you want to loose it al in a respawn because it simpler to shoot the poor bugger and rob him of his beans and makarov magazines? The same goes for the one that is about to be robbed, are you going to risk it al and shoot that other guy in so-called selfdefence? You simply don't know if the other is a Neutral. Why do I want both bandits and survivors as Neutral players, not every bandit kills during a gaming-session or he stopped with his killings and want's become a regular player again. Players should judge other players upon what they do and say, and not on how the look like.

    Class Real (wall of text)

    @RoboSheriff Your point being?
  17. No Noobs learn that flies = fresh corps with loot, turns a corner to search for the body and gets shot in the face by a bandit.
  18. Two weeks ago I would say no, but now, Yes do it!
  19. 11 days, just got killed because I was a bit careless, at the edge of a forrest not that far from the coast checking my map where to go next. The first shot missed me but before I could react I was hit wich knocked me out. It was daytime by the way, I rather travel by night, but when I log in on a daytime server I am not going to log out for a nighttime server. I hope the guy who shot me makes good use of my gear, An AKM with 4 mags, A 19112 with 8 mags, map, binoculairs, compas, watch, matches, knife, axe, painkillers, morphine, enough bandages, 5 filled cantines and a lot of food. Now, waiting for nightime somewhere near the coast.

    New map completly.

I disagree with that, I have been playing Arma II for quite a while and I thought I knew Chernarus quite well. But traversing the country side on foot showed me a lot that I did not notice before, especially ponds and small lakes (very usefull for filling your cantines), I never knew that there where so many of them.
  21. Log out in a safe place and you get rewarded by not being shot in face when you log in again next time, no garantuee though.
  22. Robert512

    The Eastern Bandit

Despite all his gear he managed to get killed twice by you guys in a short time span, that should hurt, especially his ego :)
