    Worst Squad Ever...

No it's not. Grow up, it's a computer game and last time I checked there are no rules posted when you install the game.

    Hacker on Dayz: Bad or....

Hopefully this will help a lot as it takes away the scripting. At the moment you just have to have very vigilant admins, on our server I regularly check the gear of players just to see what's what especially after they have logged in. There are usually clues, I also manually go around to peoples bases to see what's around, multiples of vehicles or weapons or ammo is usually a give away. We went to the camp of a group on our server that had seemed to have got geared up very quickly despite being on the server for just two days (not for the whole time like a few hours play a day). They had two choppers on the go and were stocking up tents. When we got to the camp we looked in the tents and vehicles and they had like 10 cayote backpakcs, 50+ mags of Stanag SD, like 4 M107s. This was all additional to the kit they had on them which was similar. No way 4 guys in two days have found 6 M107s and 14 Cayote backpacks. We couldn't conclusively prove the hacking so we just hounded them off the server under new names, killing them wherever they set up camp and destroying all their stuff. It's not like DayZ is the only game though, even massive games like Bf3 have plenty of hackers. The obvious ones get caught easily but the more subtle ones get away with it. Headshot people across a map with a hipfire M60 and it's pretty obvious. Give a decent player a wallhack that tracks the threats near him is less so but there are still tell tale signs. I've shadowed a few Bf3 players who were having immense rounds on my team and they did things that couldn't be explained by situational awareness and tactics.

    Deer stands

Most arsey post for no reason goes to..... I thought the OP's point was fair, the deer stands (they are deer stands btw, that's what the game calls them) currently spawn literally trash and are close to pointless for checking, those no one ever does. I personally thought the whole point of them was to give players a chance to find some other loot apart from the the primary hotspots and add some interest to the other areas of the map aside from Cherno/Elektro/Stary and the airfields. That IMO is a good thing, if people think they can find a half decent rifle at Deer Stand you will see more people going to them adding more interesting PvP elements out in the middle of nowhere which will add to the game. They are also not literally everywhere. Ignoring the 4 at Balota which are really part of a military camp there are by my count about 55. To get a CZ you would have to visit each one like 20 times on average! If you also look at the map you will notice that are hardly any near Cherno or Elektro and very few near either airfield. I don't think that is by accident they are supposed to encourage people to visit other areas of the map to loot not get drawn to the big cities ALL the time. The greatest concentration of them are by the Kamenka spawns. No one is saying that they should easily spawn all these high grade weapons easily but there should at least be a reason to make the trek to them, currently there isn't. The loot table changes in the new patch make them a bit more worthwhile.
  4. I forgot to say as well that for a little while games for both consoles and PC will be pretty similar in what they can do, and that's a good thing for PC gamers because it opens more options up for games, gets them more funding, developers will try to do more now they are not shackled by the old console architecture. We'll get better games IMO.

    A few questions

On DayZ Commander, if the 'hide unofficial' option is ticked you will get public hive servers where the stuff on you will travel with you to a different server but vehicles and tents etc will remain on the server you found them on. If it is unticked then the servers will be private hive and your stuff will only be saved to that particular server, join another and you will start a completely new character. Re-join the old one and you will have your stuff.

    What to do now?

Is there Side Chat? I always like to read what goes on in side chat because it can create interesting things you can get involved in, so like there might be a guy baiting noobs in who you could go kill or help, talks of vehicles, people needing lifts, people needing bloodbags, roaming bandits, people talking about bases you could go find and raid. .
  7. The new xbox will be about £400, you won't be able to build a PC to match that for the price mainly because AMD are pretty much giving the parts away to Microsoft. Also remember most games developers will be developing for consoles not PCs, as an example IIRC BF3 sold like 12 million copies, only around 1.1 million of them were PC copies. There has been plenty of talk of these new consoles mixing things up a bit in the PC market. There is no 'one is best' argument either, both have merits, I've flitted between the two for most of my life starting of on PC, moving to console, back to PC, back to console and now recently after about 5 years 360 gaming back to PC. Generally PC's have better/performance and graphics, but ease of use is a big plus for consoles, no drivers, no weird windows errors, less crashes etc etc. Day Z won;t get 'overshadowed' at E3, its got some loyal fans who will go there just for that, you only have to look at the many subscribers that post comments about more dayz stuff from people like Frankie. At the same time the consoles will get huge exposure, as will games like Ghosts, GTA V, BF4, watchdogs etc. Who cares though? Is it going to really effect Day Z? A game like Ghosts will sell millions of copies regardless of how good it actually is, there will be a new one each year though,. Day Z ia barely at Alpha, it's a game that people will be playing in two years time probably even more, it will market itself.

    Standalone planned for June

I'm not sure, like he says in that interview, if the game is good it will market itself. If people have got tired of waiting then they probably aren't going to enjoy the alpha, as I imagine many sections will be very frustrating. However they played the mod in the first place or got drawn to it because it's a very cool concept. If the standalone is good they will eventually come back and buy it because well they would be silly not too and the break from playing day z will probably do them good.

    Some considerations on sniper rifles...

Totally agree on both points, which I suppose sit either side of the 'remove the 50s' argument. I rarely get killed sniping unless I have been careless or engaged in a sniping battle and mucked up. At the same time using a DMR, M40 etc is not that hard so there is no real need for you one shot 50s. I also think that the knock out option that the other rifles give you opens up some more interesting gameplay, that the flat out kill of the AS50/M107 doesn't give you.
  10. You can't see tents. I suppose you can guess where they are based on a player being in the middle of the woods for no other reason but you can;t see their location. You also can't see exact locations of players/vehicles, just approximate. Players are also quick to call 'admin cheats'. I admin on a server but 99% of the time I only have the kick/ban/chat stuff on not the live map. There is no fun in knowing where other players are. I do spend most of my game though looking for bases and vehicles in odd places. with a chopper it's quite easy to spot vehicles even in the woods and after a while you get to know the places people put them. Quite a few players will moan about hackers or admin abuse when their camps get raided, but when you park two choppers in a clearing or have like 5 vehicles in the woods with like a Ural in there they are going to get found and people are going to go find the tents that are near them. The OP makes a good point though, if admins abuse their powers the server will loose it's population. I also don't see the point of admins using the map to find player bases and stealing stuff when you can literally spawn in anything you want, so they are just essentially trolling. Checking camps though is a good way of spotting the more subtle hackers, like when you find a tent with 40+ stanag SD rounds or 6 cayote packs and the guys have been on the server for like a day!

Lets be honest: How many times?

Plenty of times, far more than players kill me. Usually after I have been alive a litt le while and get a bit reckless.

DayZ in a way, has ruined gaming for me!

I play different games when I'm in different moods. Still love BF3 and still play it all the time but will happily play Arma 3 and DayZ as well. Both are FPS both they couldn't be more different. For me it;s not a a case of X is better than Y, that's simply not true. If in a mood for lots of action, tanks, C4 and all that I play BF3, If in the mood to slow it down I play DayZ or Arma 3.
  13. tajjuk

    Why remove the 50?

Or some kid has paid $5 to start with one Or many servers have made them a lot less rare than they should be. Or they have added far too many chopper crashes. I think this is the crux of the issue, yes maybe they are a bit unbalanced but by the loot tables there simply shouldn't be that many of them around for it to be an issue. As Floxer points out they should be on a pure statistical element extremely rare. However their popularity makes them not so rare. LOL, mysterious. We'll just have to see how the patch works I suppose.
  14. I would like to whack you in the chest with an axe and see how you feel after it, the axe is fine, it maybe needs slightly less range for a melee weapon but that's it. Remember you have to put weapons in backpacks to be able to use it and that not only restricts your ability to carry stuff but puts you at a huge disadvantage if you meet another armed player. Why are the superhuman? That literally makes no sense, these are infected humans, essentially very ill people who have lost most of their cognitive abilities. Ever had the flu? you feel far from 50% human let alone superhuman. Like I said on the other thread increased zombie persistence makes sense as that i pretty much their only goal, that's all their brain is now focussed on spreading the infection, but zombies should be stupid, easily distracted, easily tricked. More health makes sense, their blood levels should be about 8k I reckon, the rest of it no, don't agree it's superhuman AI again. Like i said increased range? what do they have giant arms? Increase damage, they are punching and biting you, only if you get overwhelmed should you die, it's the equivalent of being attacked by rabid dogs is suppose except humans are less well designed to attack this way, we don't have sharp teeth and claws. The game isn't really about Zombies, they provide the setting it's the unexpected PvP elements in sandbox setting that really make the game what it is, I'd be interested to see you test server with full levels of players on and how lone people would survive, not very long I would suspect against these super zombies. I agree to some extents that the zombies need to present more of challenge, well in fact I think they should present a different sort of challenge, a background threat that is there if you f*ck up and to be respected. Your mod to me seems to be all about the zombies and I think that;s the wrong direction.
  15. tajjuk

    Why remove the 50?

Well that brings me back to the point about Chernarus in the first place, it's there (in an ex-soviet state) because of Arma not because of Day Z, Who's to say the Zombie Apocalypse didn't take place in downtown Tokyo or in the rolling hills of Yorkshire or the American Mid-west. Add more gun variety don't take them away IMO, Add more soviet guns to the loot tables with similar chances to their american counterparts. Add wind effects to make long distance sniping more difficult and add more recoil to the AS-50/M107 to make hip spamming tougher. not good add sniping, misses just 4 shots at 1000m against moving targets, kills 26 people in wasteland but doesn't get flanked. LOL Don;t make stuff up to make a stupid point. The bit in bold is just your opinion and is terrible attitude, If you really think this mod is so popular because it's 'just a survival game' you are clearly misguided, the standalone will be guided by the demand i,e. the cash.
  16. tajjuk

Want free stuff? PAY 5 DOLLARS.

^ LOL It's rubbish but people are going to do it, it's the good and bad of having private servers I suppose. You just have to stay clear of those ones or stick to vanilla public hives servers. It's not like all privates are doing this and in reality it's their option to do this whether you like it or not. Servers exist to cater for the many flavours of Day Z that people want to play, no one is forcing you on those servers. If the demand wasn't there they wouldn't exist so clearly some people want to play this way it isn't your place to dictate to them what they can and can;t do on their own servers.
  17. tajjuk

    Why remove the 50?

I've seen you post this several times and I'm sorry I just don't see this as at all important. Arma 2 used the Chernarus map and set it in a soviet like state. Day Z the mod then happened to use that map, so why should the mod base it's decisions of a world that was in reality created for Arma? Firstly it's a post apocalyptic state, I would imagine their would be mass migration of people, especially in Europe where you would see a vast collection of NATO weapons being used, secondly if we go by the notion that Chernarus represents the source area for the outbreak would it not make some sense that elements of all the worlds military might have been deployed there in an effort to contain it? Finally if you want to go location wise, there are blown up Humvees everywhere and they are primarily used by the US so couldn;t all the US guns appear from them?# Saying they are not 'realistic' is not a great reason to remove them IMO, saying they are not balanced gameplay wise is a better one.

New patch coming soon to dayz

I like the idea of more relentless zombies that follow you more but not the other ideas. You've gone down the 'super zombie' route. More attack range? Are they inspector gadget zombies with go go gadget arms? Just cranking up the zombie 'stats' so they are harder is not the answer, makes it too much about the zombies and shifts the focus to PvE, The Zombies need to be respected and if you f*ck up they get you, but you shouldn't also be spending the entire time finding off endless super strong hordes of them because one happened to see you 100m away. Also leave the hatchet alone.
  19. I like this idea aside from the spawn protection thing. I like the idea of different 'ranks' or 'skin paths' if you like that you get for taking different paths. So in the 'Hero' grouping you could have - 1. 'Sheriiff/Police/Lawman' Hero skin, gained from killing/shooting bandits & rescuing survivors from Zs, points lost from shooting survivors/other heros, points not lost from self defence shooting (some sort of near hit detection system would be good so as soon as shots are fired near you, return fire isn't punished), point gained for returning stolen loot. 2. 'Medic' Hero skin, gained from healing other players, or for giving loot, points lost for injuring others, but less for injuring bandits. 3. 'Pacifist' Hero skin, points lost for shooting anyone but Z's, points gained for healing, giving, giving lifts etc. The you could have different types of Bandit:- 1. 'Highwayman' Bandit skin, points gained for robbing loot without killing, injuring but not killing etc. Killing gains far less points. 2. 'Killer' Bandit skin, points only gained for ruthless killing etc. I think 'Humanity' should be exchanged for 'Notoriety', so you get positive and negative 'notoriety' as news of your good/bad deeds spread across the land.

    DayZ on console

Use a PC and a controller maybe? Think they have been leaning to console version but it will take a while.

    50's, L119, or none?

Keep the .50s, add the L119, make all of them rarer. Add in the fact that you'll have to find the scope to go with your .50 will mean you will barely see them around.

    No more 50 cals!

That wasn't what was being discussed though, they've removed the guns entirely apparently on the basis that they kill in one hit which is in fact realistic to their abilities. If I shot you in the leg with a 9mm you could die if I hit an artery, if I did it in Arma you would loose some health, In Day Z you would bleed.. But from a gameplay element and I would imagine a programming element its simpler to implement and more fun for the player for the latter rather than the former more realistic option. Same goes with the medic system, it makes no sense from realism point of you but adds interest from a gameplay point of view. take a hit you bandage, loose blood, less easy, more realistic than say auto-health regen but more fun that what an ultra realistic approach would be. I don't like the 'pick and choose' realism argument, I'm not against 'more realistic' gameplay elements but not because they are more realistic therefore that is by default better. It should be done on the basis as to what this adds to the gameplay of the game. It's the balance between realism of the mechanic and 'fun' of the mechanic. It's unrealistic that people can fix a chopper and fly it, but it;s fun, lots of people like this element and it works as a gameplay mechanic IMO. It takes a while, requires a decent amount of work, it's not easy or quick by game terms but it's not so true to real life to make it so most people would never ever even bother. Add some wind elements that mean long distance sniping is harder by all means, but don't do it because we are striving for some ultra-realistic game, do it because you want to make other weapons more viable options for players.

    No more 50 cals!

Like I said the realism argument is 100% total BS. You can't fix your broken legs with morphine, you can't recover lost blood from meat, you can;t lug fricking car wheels around in a bag, if you were lugging a rifle around you certainly wouldn't be able to lug anything else. You can't just repair helicopters. Etc etc etc etc . Get it. The realism argument is pointless, either the whole game is 100% realistic or you accept it;s a game, for fun, played so people can do things they can't usually do in real life. Does that permeate your skull and reach your peabrain. Oh and here's some more realism for you, pretty much any hit from a fricking .50 cal would be fatal, in fact one shot from pretty much most of the guns is potentially fatal. Don't stand fricking still in the open.. I'd like to see how many of your 'little kids' can hit a moving target at 1000m. Real life blah, is all that says, refer to my above point. You can't pick and choose realism elements, fine we have realistic sniping, but it's gonna to take you 6 months and some physio to recover that broken leg and a few weeks to fix that car you found. ITS A GAME GET OVER IT AND DEAL WITH IT. You do know that most of the community don't come on the forums, if .50 cals were such a huge nuisance why are there so many people happily getting on with the game, They are happily according to you getting killed all the time by 12 year olds with AS50s, it;s funny bacause that's not my experience, in fact I've barely seen an AS50 and I've not been killed by one. Some clarification for you: lol wut? Your a broken record I'd welcome the day players starting going into CQB battles with an AS50 it would make those runs around Cherno so much easier. Just because statistically something kills in one shot doesn't mean that in practice it's the best at all ranges. The AN-94 and G3A3 in BF3 has the best TTKs in the game at close range of all the automatic weapon yet pretty much 90% of the player base don't use them. I think you've spent too much time up that molehill. So why are they not everywhere? why are people wandering around Cherno with assault rifles? Why do people who have them give them up? Why do people choose other guns over them? Because they aren't as close to as good as you make them out to be. LOL :@ Educate yourself, the irony. Like I said many many posts back I don't really care about their removal, it doesn't effect me because I choose other weapons, I've given away the supposed wonder weapon that is the AS50s. However this realism rubbish being used for game balance is total rubbish as it's used to subjectively people use it when they don't like something they don't agree with but conveniently ignore it when other gameplay elements are discussed. You talk a lot about skill and how it's skill less in using AS50s, well then surely there is a lot of skill in avoiding them. They like choppers, the other rifles add a level of threat in the game that always makes you weary, that keeps you on your toes and makes you feel like at any point you could be outgunned and under threat. Take that away and you just make the game easier IMO, no helicopters and I can hide stuff and it will probably never get found, no sudden feeling of "oh f*ck is that a chopper!", no sniper rifles then I can run through fields easily, no sudden "shit, that's an AS50". Game gets easier.

    No more 50 cals!

LOL. No I've not watched you play BF3, but I have played a lot of BF3, a hell of a lot (much more than your 'bragged' hours) and I have played with literally thousands of players and I've seen literally hundreds of snipers so I can easily see your description of your 'Skills' is total BS. LOL as well, you shot a guy moving upwards in a vertical line? yeh real tough shot. As for 500m, 500? really man that's AR range, strap an Acog on an M16 and you will hit things at that range I'm sure people will start complaining about them once the whingers work their way through the other rifles. As for your comments, I don't get shot at all often by guy's with snipers. Why? because I work around them simple as that, people are stupid, 12 year old kids are stupid, they make themselves obvious, they go to the obvious spots, they go to the same areas. Yeh sometimes a camping guy will get you in the middle of nowhere, so what, some guy could hide in a bush and light you up with an AK as walk past or weight round a corner or a door, that's camping but it has no relevance to the argument. If we're going to go full realism should every sniper not have a spotter to hit at long distances? Should he need wind speed indicator gadgets? Should he have to drop pretty much everything he carries due to the weight of the rifle? The realism argument is total 100% BS because this is a game, you die, some people get lucky, you get unlucky. get over it. If some little kid kills you with an AS50, man up flank his ass and get him back. Or of course you could whine about sniping being too easy because you've spent 50 hours sniping in BF3 and think that entitles you to something. I see you've taken the whine option. For the record as I stated earlier in the thread I couldn't give a toss about them taking out those guns, I use neither, however I don't like the reasons they have taken out those guns, because essentially whiners such as yourself inevitably make a lot of noise.
  25. tajjuk

    No more 50 cals!

Exactly, it will never stop once you start on this road. You'll be left with just boxing gloves as anything else that potentially causes someones death will be OP. I live how on the one hand people say sniping in dayZ isn't realistic and then follow it up by saying it;s OP for .50 cals to kill in one shot.
